5ft 4- what weight is considered slim?

Hi
Firstly I know this is hugely subjective. Just wondering what people's opinions are on this. I have lost weight over the last year and a half, gone down from 17st 3lbs to 12st 8.25lbs. goal weight is 10st 6lbs which I want to get down to by the end of the year.
I would like to know what people consider a good weight for my height (5ft 4inches), like what weight would make me look slim, I don't know whether to lower my goal weight. Ive still got quite a big belly. I'm not expecting to ever be stick thin, but would like to look relatively slim by the end of it

Thanks for any responses in advance 😊

I find this thread fascinating but it's probably just confusing to try to decide your goal weight based on this. I say this as someone who is 5'4 and was a size 10 with a tiny waist pre pregnancy, while weighing around the 10st 5 mark. Guess I must have a large frame, big bones, or loads of secret muscle mass? Just shows that the weight sweet spot is very individual.

Spudlover · 10/01/2023 22:17

I’m 5’4 and feel and look the best at about 9st 8. I’m an 8-10 (I exercise a lot and have a lot of muscle).

If I drop to 9st 3, I look saggy and my bones stick out.

minipie · 10/01/2023 22:25

Wow you have done amazingly to lose so much already - you should feel so proud.

I think you should stick with your goal weight and see how you feel then. The last stone or two may be stubborn, so better to have a goal you feel you can reach and then adjust once there, than get discouraged by an over ambitious goal weight.

I’m 5’4, I’m 66 and have been fairly inactive for 18 months due to progressive arthritis. I like to be around 10 stone, I can aim for 9 stone 4 but it’s wishful thinking, so 10 stone 4 is my target this year. I was 11 stone 5 lbs on 1 January. I think the heaviest I’ve ever been was 12 stone 7 lbs in 2021, that was a pound away from ‘obese’ instead of ‘overweight on the BMI scale and it scared me, I wasn’t even that heavy during any of my pregnancies in my 30s!

I’ve comfortably embraced size 16 clothes and like loose tops and stretch leggings anyway, but will be a 14 in trousers again if I get to 10 stone 7 lbs.

You could be me - I am exactly in the same boat . I'm 50 . I'm heaviest I've ever been and hate it , but my knee is so bad I can barely get upstairs let alone exercise- last year this time I was 9st 12 and felt great . I do y know if this is inactivity, menopause, hrt, or what but I aren't a fan .

MaryGubbins · 10/01/2023 22:45

I’m 5’3 and back in my 20s 8stone 10 was my preferred weight. I’m now more realistic 10 stone is fine. Even 10 and a half looks okay.

Itsnottime · 10/01/2023 22:49

I’m 5 foot 3 and nine and a half stone is the max for me to look slim. 9 is ideal. I was 8 for years when younger.

Workinghardeveryday · 10/01/2023 23:02

I am the same hight as you.

if I go over 8.6 I look podgy! If I was 9.8 I would look overweight..

WinterFoxes · 10/01/2023 23:03

I'm 5'4 and my ideal weight was 9st 4lbs. At that weight I could wear what I chose without worrying how it looked. I was 8st 4 but must have heavy bones as people said I looked skeletal and at anything under 9st people thought I was ill or had an eating disorder!
Currently about 11st 2 which doesn't suit me at all. Got down last year to about 10 st 9lbs which is still technically overweight but I was very toned and starting to feel confident about how I looked again.

RunLolaRun102 · 10/01/2023 23:05

Depends on muscle mass. I’m a proper size 12 at 12.5 stones. As you’ve lost a lot of weight you need to work on tightening loose skin / building muscle before you decide on a healthy weight.

headache · 10/01/2023 23:17

5ft 4 and currently 9st 7lbs and very small framed would be happier just under 9 stone feel flabby around my tummy and hips.

That’s how I’m feeling atm @headache, I’m very aware that I are too many mince pies and drank too much wine/Bailey’s over Christmas. 😂 I can still wear my usual size but feel better under 9 stone.

whattheheckisth1s · 11/01/2023 03:01

I am this height. I'd say that I look slim but well at around 8st 7lbs. Anything creeping up to the 9st 7lbs marker and I feel chubby.

I am hyperthyroid though, so it can be very difficult for me to put weight on at times. My slimmest (not by choice) was 7st 3lbs and I looked like a skeleton.

ImBlueDab · 11/01/2023 07:04

I'm 5'3" and was 9 stone 3 lb which was a perfect weight for me.

OhcantthInkofaname · 28/07/2023 19:34

5 r4. 114-127

LT2 · 28/07/2023 19:46

I'm 5ft 4 (and a half?) and weigh 10st 4. I wouldn't say I feel slim (possibly because I have been slimmer, years ago) but I don't feel 'fat' or like I need to change my weight.

AbsoIutelyLovely · 29/07/2023 08:31

Everybody’s different. In the same height as you and look cadaverous under 10 stone

Abiharwich · 29/07/2023 09:59

ifonly4 · 09/01/2023 14:51

OP, you've done so well. If I were you, I think I'd take pressure off myself and get to my original goal first - at that point you can judge how you feel about yourself - you may feel you've some more weight on your stomach and feel great as you are. You may want to aim for size 10, but even at size 12 you'll have done so well.

Absolutely agree. You've done so well already. Just keep doing what works for you and you'll know when you're at your best form.

I've heard emaciated but cadaverous is a new one.

Excuse me if I find that incredibly hard to believe. I'm this height and I cannot see how it's at all possible to look like a shriveled dead body when you're at least two stone heavier than I am. Unless your skeleton is made out of lead, this makes zero sense.

I'm not even underweight!

msmonstera · 29/07/2023 17:33

I'm 5'4 and currently about 10 stone. My ideal is 8.5. I have a small frame but am quite muscular. The extra weight (thank you pandemic) is all boobs and thighs rather than streamlined. I feel just about overweight at this level tbh.

TheFoxTwins · 29/07/2023 18:05

I'm 5 foot 4 and 10 stone. I feel fairly slim!

GreekGod · 29/07/2023 18:17

I'm 5ft 5 and am just over 9 stone. Much prefer when I'm 8 1/2 stone but can't be bothered to lose that weight.

blahblahblah1654 · 29/07/2023 18:23

I'm 5 foot 1 and I look slim at 9 stone. I'm not small framed though and even when I'm overweight it sticks more to my boobs, hips and bum. I still have a flat stomach and slimmish arms and face at 10 stone 9. It depends on where you carry your weight? I look haggard int the face if I'm too slim.

DanceWithTheBigBoysAgain · 29/07/2023 18:25

It's partly about peer group as well. I'm 5'4" and ten stone and objectively dumpy, but because I'm in my fifties acquaintances sometimes refer to me as "slim". The "for your age" is unspoken but audible. Likewise different towns will have different weight distributions.

But that aside, I'd say that anything from nine to nine and a half stone might be where a thirty year old woman would start to look slim. Nine and a half would be a realistic target, but tbh ten would be a great achievement as long as your waist measurement is OK.

Thisismynewusername1 · 29/07/2023 18:34

It depends.

I am 5’4 and to get under 9stone I’m in eating disorder territory. I got to 8.5 stone once by severely restricting calories and exercising like an idiot.

i can’t tell whether I’m slim or not. I’ve recently lost 3 stone taking me to just under 10 stone and I don’t think I look any different to when I was 13 stone 🤷‍♀️

I always feel fat, I felt big at 8.5 stone as well.

a healthy weight is probably one that is easily maintainable with a healthy diet and reasonable exercise. If you find yourself having to cut down further and further to lose more weight then you’re not in a healthy place any more.
