5ft 4- what weight is considered slim?

Hi
Firstly I know this is hugely subjective. Just wondering what people's opinions are on this. I have lost weight over the last year and a half, gone down from 17st 3lbs to 12st 8.25lbs. goal weight is 10st 6lbs which I want to get down to by the end of the year.
I would like to know what people consider a good weight for my height (5ft 4inches), like what weight would make me look slim, I don't know whether to lower my goal weight. Ive still got quite a big belly. I'm not expecting to ever be stick thin, but would like to look relatively slim by the end of it

Thanks for any responses in advance 😊

Well done on your weight loss, that's a huge achievement.

Basing your goal weight on dress sizes or some arbitrary poll of what people consider slim is probably not the way to go.

Everyone's healthy weight is different, even within the BMI range, because of varying frame sizes and build. I have a large build, so I can be a healthy weight at a BMI of 24-25. If I were a smaller build, I might need to be 20-22.

The best gauge is your waist size, as that is a better determinant of your frame, relative to BMI. The circumference of your waist at the narrowest point should be less than half your height. The visceral fat on your organs is the dangerous stuff that can cause major health problems, so keep going until your waist is less than half your height.

I'm 5'5 and 10st 8lbs, size 12-14 and feel podgy and out of shape. I'm aiming for 9st though I know I would need to be 8-8.5 to be a size 8 again.
I think 10.5 is too high OP if you want to be considered slim. You'll feel slim because of where you've come from, though.

I’m 5’4, I’m 66 and have been fairly inactive for 18 months due to progressive arthritis. I like to be around 10 stone, I can aim for 9 stone 4 but it’s wishful thinking, so 10 stone 4 is my target this year. I was 11 stone 5 lbs on 1 January. I think the heaviest I’ve ever been was 12 stone 7 lbs in 2021, that was a pound away from ‘obese’ instead of ‘overweight on the BMI scale and it scared me, I wasn’t even that heavy during any of my pregnancies in my 30s!

I’ve comfortably embraced size 16 clothes and like loose tops and stretch leggings anyway, but will be a 14 in trousers again if I get to 10 stone 7 lbs.

GroggyLegs · 09/01/2023 14:38

That's fantastic OP. Well done.

I'm 5'3 and 10 stone. I look average, I'm size 10/12 but I'm fit with muscles and carry most of my weight on my legs, not my middle.

At 9'6 I look bloody AMAZING but I just don't find it sustainable. I have to work so hard to get there & then bob back to 10st after a few months if I'm not 100% on it (yawn). Also have very sad boobs indeed.

Would you consider starting to look at health indicators rather than weight when you hit 10.7? Strength, stamina etc?

YourWinter · 09/01/2023 14:39

And no, I won’t feel or be slim at 10 stone plus. I’m apple shape, all middle and no backside, I’ve never had a shape to be proud of.

HotDogKetchup · 09/01/2023 14:42

I’m 5’3 and happiest at 9-9.3

thisusernameisnotavailablepleasetryanother · 09/01/2023 14:45

I'm 5.5 my healthiest was when I was 9.7
My slimmest was 8.2 and I looked too skinny in my opinion. I'm now 10.10 and verging on overweight. But I'm working on it. Well done on your weight loss

wyntersuhn · 09/01/2023 14:49

I'm this height and 8.6 stone.

ifonly4 · 09/01/2023 14:51

OP, you've done so well. If I were you, I think I'd take pressure off myself and get to my original goal first - at that point you can judge how you feel about yourself - you may feel you've some more weight on your stomach and feel great as you are. You may want to aim for size 10, but even at size 12 you'll have done so well.

SlowHorses67 · 09/01/2023 14:52

I am 5ft 5 and look best at 9 st or a little under. I am small boned.

It really does depend on your body type, going on your waist measurement is important I think.

Bunce1 · 09/01/2023 14:53

I am late 40s, currently 9st and feel a bit big, 8.8/9 is my ideal weight and easy to maintain when I am not feasting like I did all of November/December!

I have a medium frame and carr7y weight across my middle and boobs which I DETEST. My boobs seem to be growing alot- is that the menopause?

I think though I am conditioned to aim for a unrealistic body type. My "role" models were people like Kate Moss and Sarah Jessica Parker- totally unrealistic and unsustainable for the average woman really!

Well done on the weight loss, I bet you look and feel great.

Harrysarseinthedogbowl · 09/01/2023 14:53

Congratulations on your weight loss! I am 5ft 4 and ideally prefer to be in the range 8 to 8.5 stone, but really I am happy if I can stay under 9 stone.

otherwayup · 09/01/2023 14:53

I'm 5ft 4 and my ideal weight is about 8st 11, any less and I look ill.
I'm very petite frame wise though, hate being much over 9 stone which is where I am currently thanks to Christmas!

I'm a bit funny about my weight though and despite being in my 50s I'm still very hard on myself about staying as slim as I've always been!

The menopause definitely made my little boobs get a little bigger! A bonus for some but I'm not particularly keen!

Blubolt · 09/01/2023 14:55

Well done! I’m 5ft4 and currently a size 12 and around 12 stone 2. I really want to get down to 10 stone 7. I felt great at that weight and thought I looked nice and slim

roarfeckingroarr · 09/01/2023 14:55

At 5"4 my usual weight is around 9 stone 2. I would say I look at my best at 8 stone 11.

Currently at 37 weeks pregnant I'm just under 11 stone 🫣.

PinkSyCo · 09/01/2023 14:57

I’d say between 8 and 9 stone. As a woman in my early 5O’s I would be more than happy to get down to 1O though.

roarfeckingroarr · 09/01/2023 14:57

Sorry should say I have quite a small build, so don't wear extra weight well. At 9 stone I'm a size 8.

LillyLeaf · 09/01/2023 14:59

I'm 5'7 and 9 stone 7 lbs would be good for me, currently 10 stone and feel a bit chunky for me. But I have big hips/bum so any added weight there makes me look big. Maybe aim for 10 stone and see how you feel. Amazing job by the way.

Verite1 · 09/01/2023 15:00

I suppose it depends what you mean by slim. I am 5 foot 4.5 and after too much food over Xmas, I’m currently 10 stone. I don’t look slim at that weight, but nor do I look overweight either. Just average I suppose, but I feel podgy so aiming to lose a few pounds now.
I would say I look slimish at 9 stone 3/4 (which I aim to get back to) but have been described as slim by others at around 9 stone 7 to 9 stone 10. I would definitely look slim at 8 stone 7 but that wouldn’t be sustainable long term for me.
It all depends on weight distribution though. I’m hourglass so tend to put weight on evenly (waist/stomach being last).

HumourReplacementTherapy · 09/01/2023 15:00

I'm 5ft 4" and my ideal weight is 9stone 7lbs.
It used to be 9st but when I drop to 9st 4 people always say I look too thin (I'm in my 50's now)
The heaviest I've been was 12st 7lbs. I'm determined not to go back to that but feel I must be around 10 st 6 ish at the mo.
The hard thing is the smaller you become the less you can eat to maintain. So just check your TDEE as you go on.
Well done on the weight loss! That's amazing!!!

elp30 · 09/01/2023 15:02

I'm 52 and 5'4" with a medium-frame.

I was most comfortable with my weight when I was 130lbs or 9 stone 4 lbs. If I go any less in weight, I look skinny and not slim.

I am 158lbs or 11 stone 4 lbs., currently so I have some work to do.

Verite1 · 09/01/2023 15:03

Also congrats on your weight loss, but don’t get too hung up on that end figure. I guarantee if you reduce target by a stone, that final stone will be the hardest to lose so you don’t want to get demoralized and feel like you have failed when you have already achieved so much!

LadyOfTheFliessssss · 09/01/2023 15:04

It's my height and I'm currently 8 stone 2. I think my BMI is just under 20.

I wouldn't want to weigh more than 9 stone - because my clothes wouldn't fit me which would be inconvenient! I wouldn't look bad with more weight than that. 10 stone 6 sounds like a good goal to me.

BluIsTheColour · 09/01/2023 15:20

I'd imagine about 8.5- 9 stone would be what I would consider slim. Slim to me being size 8 maybe small size 10 or below.
