5ft 4- what weight is considered slim?

Hi
Firstly I know this is hugely subjective. Just wondering what people's opinions are on this. I have lost weight over the last year and a half, gone down from 17st 3lbs to 12st 8.25lbs. goal weight is 10st 6lbs which I want to get down to by the end of the year.
I would like to know what people consider a good weight for my height (5ft 4inches), like what weight would make me look slim, I don't know whether to lower my goal weight. Ive still got quite a big belly. I'm not expecting to ever be stick thin, but would like to look relatively slim by the end of it

Thanks for any responses in advance 😊

I'm 5'4 and when I was 9.5stone I felt the best in my weight and bmi was in healthy range. Currently 11 stone and 3 months pp, feeling not so great !

davegrohll · 09/01/2023 14:03

Great work on the weight loss btw!! 👍🏻👍🏻

Floralnomad · 09/01/2023 14:05

My adult daughter is 5’5” and she aims for 9 stone 4-6 , and looks really good at that weight . Well done on your weight loss

LizziesTwin · 09/01/2023 14:05

I think 8.5-9 stone. I’m 2 inches taller and weigh about 9 stone 3. My BMI is around 21. I am quite lean, usually size 8.

Isanyholeagoal · 09/01/2023 14:06

I’m 5ft 7’ and 10.5 stone. I am a bit podgy at this weight. My ideal weight where I look slim is 9stone. I’d say slim at 5ft 4’ would be about 8 stone but I think it all depends on your body type and how you carry weight.

well done on your weight loss, you’ve done amazing

Metabigot · 09/01/2023 14:07

I'm this height and 10st would be ideal for me.
Unfortunately I'm more like 11.5 stone!

VintageVest · 09/01/2023 14:09

I'm 5'3 and a bit. At 10 st I look a bit chubby. I'd say between 8.5 and 9.5st puts me in the slim category.

BuffaloCauliflower · 09/01/2023 14:09

I think it depends on more than just height. Women carry their weight very differently person to person. One woman may also have more muscle than another so may look slimmer while being heavier. I’d focus more on what feels comfortable for you as there won’t be objective answer for this. Though for me - I’m 5”2 so a little shorter, my comfortable weight is between about 10st and 10st 6 ish, though this is still a slightly overweight BMI for my height and I am
still curvy at that weight, but it feels right for me and I have to really battle to get lighter than that.

GiltEdges · 09/01/2023 14:09

I’m 5’4” and would say slim on me is generally when I’m 8.5-9st. If my weight creeps any higher than that I start to feel distinctly pudgy, but that’s mainly since having DS, as any weight seems to go on my stomach first. Before DS, I could probably creep as far as 9.5 and still look fairly slim.

HamBone · 09/01/2023 14:10

I’m 5’5’ and was 8 stone 7-10 lbs for years. I was definitely a slim size 8.

Now I’m nearly 50 and am over 9 stone (not sure of my exact weight, tbh, I’m not making the effort right now). I still look slim, but I can’t wear size 8.w

Mumski45 · 09/01/2023 14:10

I'm 5'4" and I feel a bit big at 9st 7lb. My ideal is around 8st 10lb. However this is due to clothes fitting better at that weight and not wanting to buy new ones just to feel comfy.

Well done on your weight loss.

BuffaloCauliflower · 09/01/2023 14:11

Also well done on your weight loss so far, you’ve done

BuffaloCauliflower · 09/01/2023 14:11

really well*

I think 8.5-9 stone. I’m 2 inches taller and weigh about 9 stone 3. My BMI is around 21. I am quite lean, usually size 8.

This. Depends on your build and age. I am this height medium build and am too fat now at 9st 1lb. Perfect for me would be 8st 3lbs or 8st 4lbs, but I would settle for 8st 7lbs to 8st-9lbs.

Hedonism · 09/01/2023 14:13

It depends on lots of things, including your definition of slim, and where you tend to carry your weight.

I'm 5'4" and start to look a bit gaunt at anything below 9 stone. That said, I'm just over 10 stone at the moment and starting to look and feel a bit podgy!

Well done on all the weight loss to date, that's brilliant.

DillDanding · 09/01/2023 14:14

I'd say around 8.5 - 9 stone. I have sisters that are 5'4 (I am a good bit taller), one is about 9 stone and looks fairly slim, and the other is 8.5 and looks a bit better. My other sister is the same height but a bit overweight (I don't know what she weighs, but I'd guess over 10 stone).

Wallowingwendy · 09/01/2023 14:16

I'm 5ft 4. Felt huge at 12stone, felt unwell at 8 stone. I'd say 9 is pretty perfect for me, puts me at a size 10, 8s depending on the brand of clothing.

Any more and I get comments about looking 'gaunt'.

However I would say that I'm skinny fat at 8-9 stone. I have 0 muscle which means I still feel flabby as there's no tone there. I feel firmer at 9-10 stone as I've filled out the skin a bit if that makes sense?

Echoes89 · 09/01/2023 14:17

Thanks all. I'm 30 and have never been slim, so find it hard to judge what is a good weight, I set the initial goal at the top end of a healthy BMI. But I would love to look good weight wise at some point and I think now I've lost a decent amount of weight, I'm re-evaluating the goal weight
I would ideally like to ultimately be maybe a size 10.
I'm thinking maybe dropping my goal by another stone, so 9st 6lbs?

I'm 5'3"
when I'mvery lean but not muscly I'm 8st.

When I'm very lean but muscular (doing lots of sport) I'm 9st

When I'm fairly lean but not muscular I'm also 9st

At 10st my baggy clothes get snug and I feel heavy.

At 10.5st I'm noticeably one of the padded people in the room, but not above average UK person.

But anything fitter and manner than you are is a huge win, a healthy improvement and 'relatively' slimmer. So don't move your goal, I think that's self defeating anyway, it WILL be an achievement to get there. Once you're there you can enjoy it for a while. Part yourself on the back and give yourself credit for a job well done.

Maybe after a while you might feel happy to set a new goal, but there's nothing more demoralising than your target moving further away for no good reason. It's a good target!

SpamIAm · 09/01/2023 14:18

Well done OP!

I really think the answer to your question depends on the individual though, it makes such a difference where you carry your weight. The healthy BMI range should give you a rough idea where to be aiming for - I think your target weight puts you within that?

I'm 5ft4, currently around 9.5 stone and feeling good about my weight!

User787878787878 · 09/01/2023 14:25

As others have said, it varies because everyone carries weight differently. I am the same height and currently overweight (gradually coming off). I am also aiming for 10st 5lbs which would put me in the 'normal' BMI range (albeit at the top end). My ultimate goal is to try and land somewhere between 9st 7lbs and 10st.

I have been 8st before and looked awful. Anything below 9st and I look gaunt. I'm in my late 40s so being at the higher end of the weight range is probably better from a wrinkles perspective!

Namechangeno25788 · 09/01/2023 14:25

As PP’s have said, it varies so much from person to person. Where you hold weight, muscle tone, bone structure etc. I got down to 9.5 stone and EVERYONE was telling me I was far too skinny (also 5ft4). If I want to look slim then I aim for around 9st 9/10, not least because 9.5 was just too hard to maintain.

IIWY I’d just keep going until you find the right sustainable slim weight for you.

NeverGonnaNot · 09/01/2023 14:25

I’m 5ft 4 and I feel best at 8 stone 5. I have always been slim with a small frame and at that weight I can wear all my clothes comfortably. I am 8 stone 12 now, occasionally 9 stone as my weight fluctuates week to week, and I don’t think it suits me as I carry weight on my belly and my clothes are tight around the middle.

Agree everyone is different and that might be too small for you.

User787878787878 · 09/01/2023 14:28

Meant to add, I have a friend who is the same height as me. However she is very dainty - tiny hands and feet and narrow wrists. She's 8st and looks really good - slim but healthy. We are built very differently - her Mum is Asian and mine was from Lancastrian farming stock!!

UnknownElement · 09/01/2023 14:30

I am that height and weighed myself a week ago and again today and am 9st 8lb. I have last a couple of pounds since last week. I feel at my best at 9st.
