Lazy pig seeks other lazy pigs to lose 1lb a week.

Ok, this starts on Monday, as I have a steak pie and mash and yorkies to eat tomorrow. Will also heroically finish the Christmas chocolate so it’s out of the house. Once that’s all achieved, I’m good to go.

I need and must lose at least one pound a week until April. That’s about a stone.

Shouldn’t be too hard, right? Wrong. I’m basically fucking lazy, I hate exercise, hate going out in bad weather and am a total gluttonous food guzzling pig. And probably peri menopausal. And I sit at a desk all day. And a million other pathetic excuses why I’ve not shifted this weight in 2022 like I said I would.

I can’t be the only one who’s got sod all willpower, so who’s up to being fully accountable to this thread?

Lazy pigs like me especially welcome. Weigh in Monday morning.

Haha! To be fair Ive never had to or tried to lose weight before. Fudging slower metabolism due to age and hungrier due to drugs!
Four stone might be insanity...
Plan is no biscuits, no carbs after five and walking the dogs more rather than leaving it up to other people...this may not be enough.
And there's still xmas shortbread.

ReadtheReviews · 11/01/2023 17:54

Agree about actual meals being healthy and the problem being accidental inbetween eating.
Car eating on way to work especially for me. Can easily eat a greggs fakesausage roll without it counting as lunch.

MurderBot · 11/01/2023 18:49

@Mañanarama That photo of your lindt Santas was practically pornographic...lindt is my kryptonite.

I've managed to lose a few pounds, although I suspect that was 80% stress pooing and 10% dehyration from being too busy to drink at work. I have done 0 exercise but am sticking to Dry January and a general sugar reduction plan, although I did eat a sneaky yum yum in the car the other day...

On the topic, I've just seen an advert for a vanilla 'thing' that you sniff and that reduces sugar cravings, allegedly...has anyone tried one and if so, did it work...?

EyesOnThePies · 11/01/2023 19:37

Evening Sty-mates, Pies in the diary room..,

Late breakfast early lunch: I slice of bread, cottage cheese, a tomato, 4 or 5 walnut halves.

Late lunch: bowl of chicken soup, one slice of bread with thin spread of olive tapenade. Salad leaves, drizzle of oil.

Lured to the dark side: 2 chocolate biscuits

Some baby gherkins / cornichons

A Moscow Mule 🙄. FFS! But not much vodka and some trendy artisan ginger beer which is light on sugar, and fresh lime and mint which counts towards 5 a day. Pretty sure.

A fluffy baked potato with half a can of tuna (in spring water) mixed with a tablespoon which was half may, half yogurt. With tenderstem broccoli.

Will have a glass of red soon, so not good on the alcohol free intentions.

Pleased that I bought a jar of cornichons as they fill a salty calling that usually sometimes leads to crisps.

Oh, and I walked up 4 levels (much higher than normal ceiling height) in a big building rather than taking the lift.

StephanieSuperpowers · 11/01/2023 19:45

Several chocolate digestives later...

whatausername · 11/01/2023 20:18

Obviously had too few calories. Fell asleep twice today. First time on my face, woke up smooshed and confused.

Definitely down to all the calorie burning and nothing to do with the two hours of sleep I had last night.

Boosted my calories with one solitary bourbon biscuit.

vicaragechristmas · 11/01/2023 20:43

I’ve just had roast duck, roast potatoes, carrots, sweet potatoes and one chipolata (heroic self-deprivation!) and I’ve double and triple checked the calories but it was under 350 by each calculation & calorie source! I weighed my portion so I know what I was having. I’m pretty surprised!

That said, I’m about to tip ober my cal limit as DH and I decided the Christmas puddings needed eating up, so ah well! Tomorrow is a new day and I can start again!

At least it was only one roast...whenever I see your name I think of Geraldine Granger and the three Christmas lunches 😁

Not too bad a day here- protein bar for breakfast; ham, beetroot, apple, 2 crackers, small piece cheese for lunch, orange and pear for pudding, then chicken, chickpeas, veg, tikka masala sauce and naan for tea, so not too bad.

Currently trying to work out if night pate on cucumber is a better option than night cheese....

I’m clocking in on Wednesday, so a bit late, but that seems appropriate for this thread. In the words of Morty Smith, “You son of a b*tch, I’m in!”

I have depression & anxiety / panic that make me prone to procrastination, & also a bit exercise intolerant. I also have injuries that complicate working out. Plus, my genes mean my V02 max is lower than normal, so aerobic exercise is more difficult.

I believe I went into early peri menopause a few years ago. I also have vitamin deficiencies & am on medications that I suspect are exacerbating my weight gain, & contributing to my difficulty dropping pounds.

I have a slow metabolism, & am a sloth. I also love food, & consider it one of life’s great pleasures. According to a DNA test, my genetic variants make me prone to feeling hungrier & less satiated. I’m also addicted to pop (soda), but recently switched to diet.

The food culture where I live is full of fried & deep fried foods, foods saturated in oil (even if not fried or deep fried), high sugar, salt, calorie & fat content, breaded products (I don’t even like them, but can’t avoid them), pop (soda), etc. Food is part of my subculture’s love language, so it’s hard to turn it down. Plus, healthy food is more expensive, & I’m low income. I’m sure there’s something cheap, easy & healthy to make, but I’m ignorant about it.

I want to lose 1/2 to 1 lb a week. My goal is to lose roughly 30 lbs or a little over two stones.

Wallowingwendy · 11/01/2023 22:09

The soup I chose today was vile. Like soap. Lemongrass and something. Never again. I ditched it and then dh brought me a KitKat as he felt sorry for me for such awful soup (he ate it). Learnt my lesson. Stick to chicken!

BobBobBobbing · 11/01/2023 22:32

I only ate 2 biscuits today and had water instead of hot chocolate when I would have typically been mainlining both. I also didn't buy sweets on the way back to the hotel.

That show of amazing self restraint should totally offset the fuck ton of booze and the lovely dinner, yes?

inthekitchensink · 11/01/2023 23:16

Zero, I repeat zero, chocolate or biscuits today. Had zero fruit and vegetables also but glossing over that bit.

whatausername · 12/01/2023 00:21

Cereal
Cup of chicken broth (honestly could barely be called a soup)
38g of Mini Eggs (or whatever the tub said)
Haggis & veggies
6 Bourbon biscuits
Toast

Will prioritise swapping nutritionally poor snacks for more nutritious ones. Otherwise not worried about quantity of food. I'm losing excess weight (i.e. am overweight) rather than losing "vanity" weight (might be a nicer term than that but i'm unaware of it)

Octopus45 · 12/01/2023 08:42

Hi, sounds as if everyone is doing well. Seem to be up a pound this week but think it is cause my period is due. I'm on HRT and dont really get them properly anymore but feel bloody uncomfortable. Also find that a day without steps doesn't help (had a work from home day with awful weather) and I've run out of my menopause vitamins. Might take a trip to Holland & Barrett later if I've got any time after work. Have been trying to remember to do squats when I'm boiling the kettle. Would love to get more toned this year, ideally without doing any formal exercise or joining a gym lol.

What a lovely encouraging thread . I ate cake yesterday -not going to reveal details of said cake so as not to entice others .
Going to try harder to be healthy today .Do we think stilton instead of cake would be a good idea ?

EyesOnThePies · 12/01/2023 09:21

Hi MountainMermaid!

That all sounds very difficult. It does sound as if finding healthy affordable recipes will be crucial for you.

Are you looking for lower calorie versions of your cultural dishes or can they be any? Are you cooking for a family?

I have to be economical and these are a couple of things I do:

Salad items and be costly. And coleslaw slathered in hi calorie mayo. ‘Zingy slaw’ is v cheap, and low cal. I shred red cabbage and carrots, and dress with a little oil, lemon or lime juice, grated ginger (fresh, jar or even ground are ok) and salt. The colours cheer you up. I use sesame oil because I keep a bottle for stir fries etc but any salad oil is ok.

Tom Yum and other noodle soup type dishes. The paste can be expensive to make if you buy everything for small quantities, but I make up a load and freeze it as ice cubes. Or buy the tubs from E Asian shops, it keeps for ages. Anything but the jars from Tesco! Anyway, make a tasty broth, add noodles of choice, suitable veg that are reasonably priced (shredded cabbage is a good filler along with more expensive items like baby corn, bean shoots etc if you can stretch) spring onions. Add protein. Packs of chicken thighs are economical: 1 per person or 2 between 3 people.

Dhal and rice

Potato / chick pea/ spinach curry . Frozen leaf spinach from Iceland is good value. Steady on the oil.

StephanieSuperpowers · 12/01/2023 09:22

Oh yes. Cheese has lots of protein and calcium which cake doesn't have so clearly better. Women need to keep up their calcium, I'm told.

We love to hear about nice cake!

Gave in and weighed myself this morning to find I'm 1lb down from Monday so I'll be happy with that. Cycled to work this morning and just had my morning coffee with a dark choc brunch bar to keep me going til lunch. Got M&S veggie soup for lunch so should be a good day! It's the snacking after work that gets me, anyone else just have 'a bite of this/that' while cooking dinner?
Have a lovely day fellow oinksters!

Theheartmustpausetobreathe · 12/01/2023 10:05

Smile well ,if you insist .It was Lidl's Strawberry and clotted cream swiss roll .Like this ,though I'm not sure this is a pic of Lidl's or Asda or Aldi .

EyesOnThePies · 12/01/2023 10:08

Morning Oinksters!

Reasonable discipline yesterday means I have recovered from the Tuesday night dinner. If I keep it up I am on track for 1lb a week.

I have a late-lunch meeting today, will need to keep an eye on the extras. I am fine in the mornings, it’s late afternoon and late evening when the fuck-it goblins strike.
