1st January start, anyone up for it?

I can't put it off much longer, I am getting very large and uncomfortable. My eating has become very out of control.

I need to shift around 4 stone, not sure exactly as I am to scared to get on the scales.

Anyone want to join me for a big new start and weigh in on Sunday 1st January?

Hi all, hope you don’t mind if I join in? I was 65.1kg on 3 Jan and aiming for 60kg by end of March (although more importantly want to lose my flabby tummy and hips). I am quite short so can’t carry much weight. I aim for 1200 calories a day but adjust for exercise so expect weight loss to be quite slow. I run a lot and wouldn’t be able to train properly on 1200 calories.

I get lunch provided at work and one of the challenges is that it’s impossible to exactly know how many calories are in it. My philosophy is that perfect is the enemy of good so I just find something that seems close and go with it. We’ll see if it works! This weekend’s task is to batch cook something healthy that I can eat for a few dinners this week. Anyone got any food inspiration for meal plans?

Back at work today. It's so much harder to fit in exercise and healthy eating when you have to spend 7 hours at a desk and 80 minutes commuting.
Anyway, I did manage to stick to it. Although in a really unsatisfactory way!
Slimfast shake for breakfast & lunch. Nicer than I expected but I'd forgotten you make them with milk and I'm trying to reduce my dairy intake as I think it might be behind my sinus problems. I also hadn't really thought through the impact it has on hitting 5 a day. So my snacks were an apple and a kiwi, then, when the DC had tea, I cooked loads of extra cauliflower & cabbage and ate a mound of that covered in black pepper and then, when I realised DH was out tonight, I ended up having toast, tuna, spinach & tomatoes.
I have drink gallons of water and herbal tea and my colleagues probably think I have a UTI or something as I've been to the loo so many times.
I've done 10,000 steps but no exercise as such. I'll jump on the cross trainer and then do 30 day shred before bedtime. I upped the weights last night and can really feel it today!

Have you tried making the shake with coconut/almond/oat milk? I make my own shake with frozen fruit, spinach, non dairy milk/water flax seed/chia seed and a teaspoon of almond butter. I've never eaten breakfast so have this at 1-2 pm and keeps me going until tea time

Mumski45 · 07/01/2023 10:19

Weighed in at 60.8kg yesterday and today so not very much but on target for 0.1 per day.

Exercise is going well so far but not very motivated today.

In fact I think today will be tough as it's DS1's birthday tomorrow and he is working all day so we will celebrate today. Going to his favourite curry restaurant in Manchester this evening so sticking to calories will be tough.

I'm trying desperately to only weigh on a Monday as my weight fluctuates a lot (thanks perimenapause/water retention/constipation) but I felt I had lost so jumped on last night and lost 2lbs since Monday. I'm so happy but then I seem to self sabotage and had chocolate/biscuits last night as I stayed up late. This is always my downfall -staying up late and eating crap! I'm normally in bed by 9! So cross with myself. Today is a new day though so will eat well and yoga/weights today with an early night! Rock n roll Saturday here

Twateralflow · 07/01/2023 10:22

Sorry forgot to add I'm now 11.12 down from 12 stone. Do you think 2lbs per week is doable?

HairsprayBabe · 07/01/2023 11:17

11st again this morning but I forgot to weigh before my coffee

Did the food shop yesterday and stocked up on loads of fruit and veggies, Greek yogurt, eggs etc.

Forget how expensive healthy eating is!

Eggsley · 07/01/2023 11:44

12st 12.4lbs this morning, so up a bit on the last couple of days but my period has started and I am quite bloated, so I'll blame that.

Need to keep water intake up over the weekend, I'm terrible at remembering to drink it.

Have had a hot choc with cream and marshmallows at my mum's this morning so think that's my treat for the day!

JoyPeaceHealth · 07/01/2023 12:00

68.7

Going to have some poached eggs for breakfast now. I make the worst poached eggs in the world flotsam and jetsam is how I used to make them, but i just watched this youtube thing where you create a whirppool in the saucepan and drop them in, also, the water should be just below boiling not furiously boiling so I'll try this now. I really want poached eggs for brunch and not a pile of stringy bits.

JoyPeaceHealth · 07/01/2023 12:16

nope, just eaten a bowl of white fronds

learning2fly · 07/01/2023 12:24

@Eddietheeagle fantastic loss of 5lbs! Well done. I am down to 84.5 kg so lost a lb this week but least heading right way

Southernbellas · 07/01/2023 12:32

Hi everyone. I am going to weigh on a Saturday.
Start: 12.3
Now: 12.1.5
Target: 10
A little loss but I have still been off work so hopefully next week will be better.

Good luck everyone.

GlumShoe · 07/01/2023 12:38

My birthday celebrations are over so I can concentrate properly on losing weight. I did cut back with the meal and drinks (didn't have any alcohol at all - gold star!) but I've eaten lots of chocolates. Going to weigh in tomorrow. Not expecting a loss.

I’ve spent loads on food this week. Been buying random ingredients for “fakeaway” chinese and fresh fruit and veg. I’ve made loads of batch foods so it won’t always be so expensive but a change in eating is expensive initially.

Yup, I'm feeling this as well. Toasties and crisps for lunch cost a fraction of the price of salads and fresh fruit. Still, I had to call into town this morning and swerved the coffee shops, so I've clawed back a fiver or so by not having a flat white and a croissant.

You’ve reminded me I’ve had one take out coffee, usually have around 3-4 and it bought lunches at work £5-6 per day so also saved too! Plus no booze. Wasn’t a huge drinker but even a decent bottle of wine is £9-11 now.

LostaraYil · 07/01/2023 16:11

I was away and eating out for a couple of days so a bit off track but not too bad. However I finally managed to weigh myself and was 10 stone 10, a lot more to lose than I thought. Just have to get on with it. A short workout and walk done today and healthy food so far, though we're out for dinner with friends today.

Doesitmatteranyway · 07/01/2023 16:50

@EddietheEagle and @Southernbellas well done both of you - scales going in right direction. My weigh day is Sunday so I’m hoping I will have good news tomorrow.
has anyone tried matcha tea? I’ve been reading good things about it helping with weight loss.

Hi everyone, I'd like to join the thread too please!

I'm ashamed to say I have over 10st to lose 😔 I have always been heavy but my weight has spiralled out of control over the years.

Anyway, I started my healthier eating plan on Jan 1st so my first weigh in is tomorrow! I'm very hopeful about it!

Doesitmatteranyway · 07/01/2023 17:54

Fingers crossed for us @TheWayItAllWouldGo 🤞

@TheWayItAllWouldGo

Welcome!! And good luck for your first weigh in! Let us know how you get on x

2023istheyearigetmyacttogether · 07/01/2023 19:07

Very impressed by the control on your birthday @GlumShoe

I've also spent a lot on groceries this week. I'd forgotten quite how many veg I eat when eating healthily. I've got through two bags of baby leaf spinach, a pack of cherry tomatoes, a couple of cucumbers, most of a bag of carrots, a couple of cauliflower & broccoli and two packs of mushrooms. Mushrooms are remarkably low in calories given how substantial they feel when eating them.

It's 7pm on a Saturday night and I can feel temptation tantalising me. I've gone over my calories again (am thinking perhaps I re-set at 1300 if that's going to be more realistic) and don't want to eat any more of the 500 I earned through exercise today. I'm reading the Noom book at the moment and it's very good about the psychology of weight loss and how to form and break habits so I need to focus on that. I want to be healthy, fit and thin more than I want wine. Or crisps. Or chocolate. I might go & have a bath or something.

We are in the same boat so you aren't alone.
I also have around 9-10st to lose and have previously lost 7st and gained most back after a difficult few years.

Also weighing in weekly, first weigh in tomorrow. Good luck and report back. I will post in the morning.

What sort of method are you using to lose weight? I am calorie counting and fasting.

confusedeffie · 07/01/2023 20:08

Hi ladies, I’d love to join you. I am 16st 4lbs so I have lots of weight to lose. I am suffering with my health due to being so big. I aim to lose 4 stone this year. I am planning for a low- carb diet.

Kaylisa · 07/01/2023 20:26

@TheWayItAllWouldGo I want to lose at least 6 stone but I need to lose over 9 to be top end of healthy on the bmi. I have gained 9 stone 5 since being with my husband. Literally another person 😅 we can do it!
