1st January start, anyone up for it?

I can't put it off much longer, I am getting very large and uncomfortable. My eating has become very out of control.

I need to shift around 4 stone, not sure exactly as I am to scared to get on the scales.

Anyone want to join me for a big new start and weigh in on Sunday 1st January?

Weighed it at 61.0 this morning which is 0.1 down from yesterday. Not much but at least it's in the right direction. Today will be tougher as no exercise planned to boost my calorie allowance.

@wizzler that sounds like a good plan as you are more likely to stick to it than drastically changing your eating habits.

@Twateralflow I like that idea. In fact I do something similar but having a cup of tea if I feel peckish just to try to put me on to the next mealtime.

@AutumnOcean good luck for your weigh in at the weekend. I find myself checking it daily but this can lead to odd fluctuations.

WeKnowFrogsGoShaLaLaLaLa · 05/01/2023 08:11

Hello All,

Fab to see the scales are going down for daily weighers. Good Luck to those back at work today.

Todays meal plan:
Lunch - not actually sure, possibly soup?
Tea- Salt & Chilli Chicken Thighs, Chips and Tenderstem Broccoli.

Have a good day!

sylv165 · 05/01/2023 08:52

Had the last of the Christmas social events yesterday so no more excuses now! I did have chips…but avoided alcohol and dessert so not all bad.

Well done @comeon2023! Final week 2 run for me today then I’ll be on to my 3 minute blocks. Hoping I can do it!

TheTurn0fTheScrew · 05/01/2023 09:18

I've had a little go on the scales mid-week, and it looks like the right direction of travel. I don't want to get too hung up on midweek losses though, as weekends are always hard for me, and I want to avoid disappointment when 90% of the midweek loss has disappeared by Monday.

Trying to walk a bit more every day. Did a 2.5 mile round trip to the vets yesterday to drop off an insurance form. I walked 2 miles to work this morning, so there will be another 2miles home tonight!

sylv165 · 05/01/2023 13:07

I did it @comeon2023 - tried to up my 90 sec runs to 2mins to try and bridge the gap a bit. Didn’t manage that on all the run blocks, but 4/6 isn’t too bad. Looking forward to pushing it a bit further in my next run!

scaredysquiggle · 05/01/2023 13:49

Only a feint positive today so as the kids were all at school and partner at work I ventured out of the bedroom and attempted a 3k walk on the treadmill to see what shape my lungs are in. I can report they aren't good. Was breathless at a slow pace and so have retreated to my bed.

Grabbed a bowl of soup on my way past the kitchen and wiped down everything I touched as I exited. Feeling downhearted about ever feeling well enough to exercise and worried about losing all my cardio gains.

CurlyClairey · 05/01/2023 14:08

Eugghhh come on my period today and feel AWFUL. That explains the crops yesterday. Want to sit and eat all the crap. Any good suggestions of healthy comfort food? Currently on coconut and chilli soup but it’s not hitting the spot.

PeppermintChoc · 05/01/2023 14:40

Hello all - I Just want to share that if I succeed today it will be my fifth consecutive day of NOT stuffing my face. 🥳 this is my best effort for a LONG time of counting calories.

I feel quite in control right now which is a triumph in itself. I am finding intermittent fasting quite helpful. I’m trying to do a 10-6 or 12-8 window. It just gives me less to eat really! I find skipping breakfast really helpful.

I like pasta what about www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/creamy-courgette-bacon-pasta which comes out like carbonara but is still relatively healthy?

Or yogurt, fruit and honey? Yogurt coated rice cakes?

I just crave carbs at that time!

CurlyClairey · 05/01/2023 14:46

Mmmm….. thanks @PeppermintChoc i now really want carbonara! And garlic bread 🤣🫣 I’ve only eaten carrot sticks and cottage cheese, plus that soup today so far so that’s not too bad if I can stick to that and not a mountain of additional crap!! Thanks for the idea!

HairsprayBabe · 05/01/2023 16:27

11.1 this morning love losing that water weight in the first week. Find it so motivating!

Had lunch out today, long planned but chose something 712 calories so have enough for a reasonable dinner, probably eggs it's always eggs in a pinch 😅

scaredysquiggle · 05/01/2023 17:00

I'm hungry for the first time in days. I'm taking it as a really good sign my body is on the mend. Double edge sword as I guess hungry is a feeling I'm going to need to get used to for the next few months!

Omelette with lots of veg for dinner.

queenofthebongo · 05/01/2023 17:06

Please can I join? I am 11stone roughly. Just over 5ft4 so the bmi calculator said lose just under a stone. I need to place my self firmly in the middle of the healthy weight range so I need to lose around 1.5-2stone. I'm early 50's so don't want a saggy face so I need to do it now before it's too late. I am doing gym sessions once a week (started in nov) might bump them up to twice a week if I can afford it. I also need to sort out my eating. I have tried and I have haven't been a massive pig over Christmas, so I am hoping to see a difference soon. First weigh in today plus measurements and I have downloaded a tracker app so I can drop my weight in easily and hopefully see a difference. Good luck all!

JoyPeaceSleep · 05/01/2023 17:18

After putting on .1 of a kilo yesterday (making me 69.5 yesterday) I'm now 69.00 exactly!

Phew, I think the early 'stall' made me realise I can't do this low carb thing. I've got to allow sweet potato, leeks, chick peas, read onion, legumes and all the other things I had to avoid when keto/low carb. Vegetables did not make me fat. It was the cake, the wine, the biscuits. I'm guessing. So a mindset shift towards the middle path. I just find it so hard. I 'm either on a keto-bore high or I'm buying a cake to celebrate it being a Wednesday. Really thinking about health a lot now though. And strength. I've got so weak. If anybody is feeling really weak and trying to build up strength, I've done the first few days of Lottie Murphy pilates and enjoyed them. If I did a Jillian Michaels work out like I used to, it'd kill me now. I know pilates is not the best thing I could be doing for weight loss but this is what I feel like I need.

JoyPeaceSleep · 05/01/2023 17:19

On youtube that is.

JoyPeaceSleep · 05/01/2023 17:27

@queenofthebongo Hi, i'm early 50s too, and I have to admit, this diet feels different. I'm not fantasising about hte jeans I'm going to get back in to. You sound full of energy! I think the gym would kill me right now. Sticking to pilates and walking. I've lost strength and energy. I want to cut out wine mid week to reduce chances of breast cancer. I was awake half the night last night feeling a bit hot. I'm not on HRT maybe i should be, but feeling a really strong drive to get healthier. I want to lose 10 kilos to get in to the 'normal' bracket.
There are a good few between 50 and 52 on the thread now so we're not alone. Speak up ladies! make me feel less alone. Today I felt more energetic than I have done in a while actually!

queenofthebongo · 05/01/2023 17:45

Thank you @JoyPeaceSleep. I have never really dieted before but have piled in a bit of weight over the last 3 or 4 years if I’m honest. Stressful job and young child so can’t get out much. He’s now old enough to leave for an hour or two so I get some life back! Plus I now need to look after me. I’m also feeling menopausal. It’s great being a woman isn’t it!

I started the gym thing in November and although there’s not much change, I am definitely stronger and feel so much happier. I hope that continues!

wizzler · 05/01/2023 18:13

@JoyPeaceSleep I am 57! And feel the same as you. I will take your tip for Pilates thanks. I need something gentle to help core strength and flexibility.
I can recommend c25k which I completed in lockdown.. a very gentle build up. Struggling with recovery from a pulled muscle or I would be redoing it myself

scaredysquiggle · 05/01/2023 18:35

I'm mid forties and definitely menopausal.

I've been doing yoga and Pilates 3 times a week since late October as well as cardio 5 times a week. No weight loss but a change in body shape.

According to my rubbish bathroom scales in 35% fat so I'm hoping to get that number to drop. I'd consider a personal trainer to do it but at the moment I'm enjoying the classes.

JoyPeaceSleep · 05/01/2023 18:49

@scaredysquiggle that is encouraging! I'd love to lose the weeble shape :-)
I couldn't cope with a personal trainer! You're brave.

scaredysquiggle · 05/01/2023 19:16

@JoyPeaceSleep I have definitely gone from being round to having a waist again

2023istheyearigetmyacttogether · 05/01/2023 19:16

Back at work today. It's so much harder to fit in exercise and healthy eating when you have to spend 7 hours at a desk and 80 minutes commuting.
Anyway, I did manage to stick to it. Although in a really unsatisfactory way!
Slimfast shake for breakfast & lunch. Nicer than I expected but I'd forgotten you make them with milk and I'm trying to reduce my dairy intake as I think it might be behind my sinus problems. I also hadn't really thought through the impact it has on hitting 5 a day. So my snacks were an apple and a kiwi, then, when the DC had tea, I cooked loads of extra cauliflower & cabbage and ate a mound of that covered in black pepper and then, when I realised DH was out tonight, I ended up having toast, tuna, spinach & tomatoes.
I have drink gallons of water and herbal tea and my colleagues probably think I have a UTI or something as I've been to the loo so many times.
I've done 10,000 steps but no exercise as such. I'll jump on the cross trainer and then do 30 day shred before bedtime. I upped the weights last night and can really feel it today!

2023istheyearigetmyacttogether · 05/01/2023 19:17

@CurlyClairey sorry to hear you're feeling rubbish. That will be me in a few days. I like @PeppermintChoc's idea of carbonara and will make sure I have the ingredients on standby. Along with some chocolate!

CurlyClairey · 05/01/2023 19:38

@2023istheyearigetmyacttogether thank you 😊

sylv165 · 05/01/2023 19:51

@scaredysquiggle this is very good to hear. Definitely going to focus on changing shape rather than the scales, I’m just so wobbly right now I feel like a blob!

Im 41 but have noticed a massive change in the past few years to my energy levels and I think it has been a major factor in me gaining weight. That plus lockdown with kids, work and a husband that works abroad - I went from being generally quite active to feeling almost housebound for a year. I’m so ready to get back to feeling like myself again.
