1st January start, anyone up for it?

HimiJendrix · 29/12/2022 12:30

I can't put it off much longer, I am getting very large and uncomfortable. My eating has become very out of control.

I need to shift around 4 stone, not sure exactly as I am to scared to get on the scales.

Anyone want to join me for a big new start and weigh in on Sunday 1st January?

Just making a peppermint tea and then that's me done for the day.
Scrambled egg on toast for breakfast, home made lentil soup and a roll with chopped veg on the side for lunch, sweet potato, cauliflower & pea curry for tea. My only snack was an apple.
I had one coffee with milk but the rest was hot water with lemon, herbal teas and a black coffee. Such a contrast to the last few months when I was having a latte, a couple of coffees with milk and a few cups of tea each day. Not to mention the alcohol in December!
Exercise wise, I did 30 mins on the cross trainer and level 1 of the 30 day shred. Working from home so very limited steps even with the cross trainer.

I now want a peppermint tea

Sounds like a good day for you though!

Checking in before I head to bed.
Day 3 a success.
Plenty of water drank, only 1 pepsi max and 1 black coffee. (Trying to cut my caffeine down as well, coffee and cola addict)

Came in 200 calories under my allowance and also did a 15 minute Walk At Home workout from youtube

Im fasting until lunchtime so
Had minestrone soup and a salad sandwich for lunch
Veg packed Chilli with beetroot salad and a pitta bread for dinner
Protein bar and a salt and vinegar rice cake as snacks in the day

Didn't eat any of the kids chocolates or leftovers

Sounds carb heavy but all under my calories

I didn't hit 10k steps like I'm aiming for but the workout will have helped towards it and I have done consistently more steps each day for the last 3 days

When the kids go back to school on Monday (Scotland) I will be walking to school and back twice a day pushing the buggy which is around 6500 before anything else so that will help toward exercise

sylv165 · 03/01/2023 22:43

@comeon2023oh good, I did week 2 run 2 today so we are at pretty much the same stage. Although I have really not done much exercise in the past 18 months so I have a feeling I’ll definitely need to repeat a few weeks!

Mumstheword2022 · 04/01/2023 06:25

Very up and down here!

back to work yesterday and started with an awful worth in that was a pound over my starting weight on day one! But just now weighed in and I’m four pounds lighter than 24 hours ago?!?

no sleep again though - must crack this pretty urgently

have a drawer at work stuffed with low fat bars, fruit and bits so that I won’t be tempted to grab something yuck from the canteen through hunger and desperation

work is pretty 🙃 these days so dragging myself in

at least if I am slimmer I’ll be in a better place!

under twelve stone for Friday I hope

wizzler · 04/01/2023 07:46

Deflated today as daily weigh in shows I am heavier than I was on Monday ... however am cheered by Mumstheword2022 post so will continue with my strategy of eating less and moVing more, and keep my fingers crossed for better weigh ins to come

TheTurn0fTheScrew · 04/01/2023 08:01

gentle start here
generally working on fruit for breakfast, and salads for lunch over the last couple of days.
I have a fussy family and CBA to cook twice so dinner is a regular meal. This will no doubt slow me down a bit. I will admit I've still been at the cheese in the evenings but I hope to knock this on the head as I adjust to eating less. Didn't manage any exercise yesterday, aiming for a decent walk today.

Doesitmatteranyway · 04/01/2023 08:11

I’ve managed to avoid most ultra processed food for 3 days and walk each day. I also have fussy kids and can’t be bothered to cook twice, so yesterday I bought myself a ready meal from the ‘be good to yourself range’. I haven’t eaten a ready meal for years, but actually might get a few in as it tasted ok and is handy when I’m tired or in a rush.
Feel pretty tired though as had covid last week and although I didn’t feel particularly poorly with it I have aching joints and just feel a bit blah. Meeting a friend for a walk today at lunchtime so she will get me moving.
I only weigh weekly as I find daily fluctuations can upset me and put me off. I already feel less bloated around the middle though.

This is why I stopped daily weighing, the impact it could have on my day if the number was even slightly higher was ridiculous!

It's important for me, this time round, to make this whole thing as realistic as possible. Last time I lost weight, I did the fast800 with several hours of exercise a day (it was during lockdown). Yes I lost weight quickly (and large chunks of hair! 😱) but I was obsessed and it wasn't sustainable at all once lockdown ended. I've regained all but 7lbs in the years since.

That said, there are aspects of that plan that I have kept - I know I'm better without lots of bread in my diet so I'm trying to avoid it where possible. But I wont kick myself if I have it occasionally either.

My starting kcals are actually quite high at 1800 a day as I don't want to be overly restrictive. I haven't actually had that many yet but they are there if I need them.

My plan was for exercise daily but my injury had put paid to that for now. I'm on enforced rest so any weight loss I see on Monday will be purely down to diet.

Have a good day everyone.

JoyPeaceSleep · 04/01/2023 09:13

And, funnily enough, I weigh 0.1 kilo more today than yesterday. I'll keep going though.

sylv165 · 04/01/2023 09:18

I am also up a lb this morning but trying to focus on overall trends rather than individual days. I find it really tricky to know how often to weight myself. Every day can feel a bit obsessive, but at the same time I can dismiss fluctuations a bit more, when I weigh weekly I expect to see a loss and if I don’t then I feel demoralised. I’ve downloaded an app called Happy Scale which promises to show trends and calculate true weight from daily readings (so smoothing out daily fluctuations). Hoping that will stop me getting too annoyed when I have the inevitable hormonal week!

HairsprayBabe · 04/01/2023 09:29

Down a lb this morning, I'm popping out with my mum would normally be coffee and cake but I will restrain and just have the coffee 😭

I gained more weight from the maternity leave lifestyle than I ever did from pregnancy 😅

rumbypumby · 04/01/2023 09:54

@HairsprayBabe same here. I thought I was heavy at the end of my last pregnancy but all I've done is put on and my baby is 19 months 😬

I became a sahm mum after my last baby and the lifestyle of baby group and coffee/cake after, or meeting for breakfast before hand with friends hasn't helped at all.

I weigh weekly. Couldn't do daily.

KathyBurke · 04/01/2023 10:23

@sylv165 yes to the Happy Scale app. It's really good and I've used it in the past. It wasn't available on android but it may well be now. I'm going to download it again. Thanks for reminding me.

sylv165 · 04/01/2023 10:42

Oh good @KathyBurke glad it is worthwhile. I’ve not used it before but it sounded like the sort of thing I would find helpful

EddietheEagle · 04/01/2023 12:48

I'm on day 4 and I'm 2lbs down!! So pleased!! I'm finding it quite easy, I'm eating so well, planning all my meals and I'm not having any processed food, and having 2 litres of water a day. I can't believe the difference in how I'm feeling.

I'm normally groggy, slight headache, no energy. I almost feel like I could do a workout.

Oh and we have decided to take up hiking! We went for a walk in the forest last weekend, and thoroughly enjoyed it! We've since watched a couple of programmes on tv about hiking and we've decided we want to give it a go. 🥾

JoyPeaceSleep · 04/01/2023 13:32

I feel rubbish and I think it's keto flu even though I've been intending to be low carb not keto I guess I was so obsessed that I was keto. I said this before but I need to learn to follow the middle path like it was a set of rules. I don't want to go back to the mindset of looking at a leek feeling it's ''bad''. Cos it's not.
Onwards. Adjusting. Living and learning.

Eggsley · 04/01/2023 13:45

12st 13lbs this morning so down into the stone bracket I've previously been in for about 5 years. Daily weighing is the way for me as otherwise I think I've been good and it gradually slips. Daily weighing definitely keeps me more focused.

Yesterday was ok, I didn't get 10k steps but drank lots of water and reduced portion size. I was happy with how it went.

Had porridge for breakfast this morning, two wholemeal sandwich thins with a slice of corned beef for lunch and have an apple and some raspberries for snacks this afternoon. Have managed to keep up a decent water intake so far today (along with tea and coffee) and have been out for a walk at lunchtime, so am feeling positive about it all at the moment.

@JoyPeaceSleep I hope you are feeling better soon. I'm trying to find a sustainable middle ground that I will be able to keep up long term, it's not an easy thing so keep going.

Mumski45 · 04/01/2023 14:04

Day 4 and today is a good day. I was 61.1 kg on the scales this morning down 0.7 from my first weigh in yesterday.

As usual I always loose a lot in the first week but it's mainly water weight lost as I am drinking more plus a lot less food going through. I'm hoping it will settle at about 0.8 per week.

Forced myself to outside on my bike today although the weather was grim. Was good cos I had company which makes it fly by quicker. I have used 1250 calories according to mfp so that's an extra 625 to add to todays allowance if I need it. I had beans on toast at the cafe stop which is an improvement on cheese on toast.

Well done @Eggsley for breaking through the barrier this morning.

I agree @JoyPeaceSleep it's important to find a middle ground as you are more likely to stick to it. I can't imagine why a leek would be bad.

@EddietheEagle well done on your progress. You have reminded me I need to find some new hiking boots. We don't do a lot but DH and I do a short walk which is steep and rocky usually once every 2 weeks. You will enjoy being out in the fresh air and admiring the views.

EddietheEagle · 04/01/2023 14:22

@Mumski45

Thanks! Any tips for a newbie? I take it I will have to break in the walking boots? I was thinking of just looking up popular hikes and giving it a go?

DrunkenKoala · 04/01/2023 14:36

Eased myself into it over last few days, cutting down on bread, not had any today and not planning to until Sunday. I’ve swapped my evening cake/biscuits for melon with raspberry sauce on it.
DD went back to school on yesterday, I did my usual power walk back up the hill but it knackered me (it’s surprising how two weeks away from exercise can feel when you start up again) luckily today’s walk home wasn’t too bad.
Weighed myself again this morning and lost 2.25lbs since Sunday (I did start my period on Monday morn so I think some of the weight loss is down to that - but it’s still a step in the right direction).
I will be swimming both tomorrow and Friday morning (not been since before the December cold snap) let’s see how I get on with that.

It’s DD’s birthday at the weekend, there will be cake, I will have a bit and then that’s it the rest of Jan.

Mumski45 · 04/01/2023 14:43

@EddietheEagle yes I have a few tips and like any shoes you may have to break them in by wearing them around the house for a bit before you head out for a long hike.

I would also look for some decent socks as they can be just as important as your boots. You need ones with minimal seams and a bit taller/thicker than everyday socks.

Unless you are already fit I would build up your distance slowly like any exercise. Also don't underestimate how strenuous climbing steep hills can be so take this into account when planning your routes and if you need to then just go slow.

DH and I have a favourite one which is only 4m so quite short but it has very steep sections which are good to get your heart rate going.

mothertrucking · 04/01/2023 14:57

Today so far I've eaten
Overnight Oats with apple and chia seeds
Rocket and spinach salad with chicken tikka
Handful of nuts and raisins, satsuma

I've drank about 1 litre of weak diluted juice and half a smoothie

Think dinner will be either chilli or spaghetti bolognaise

Threeboysandadog · 04/01/2023 15:37

Thank you @2023istheyearigetmyacttogether I’m feeling almost normal today.

I had a good day yesterday and just porridge so far today. I’m planning firecracker chicken tonight. It’s a Simply Cook recipe so an easy meal.

Syrax · 04/01/2023 17:35

Down with a virus and absolutely zero appetite means yesterday I ate 750 calories and today, so far, 3 After Eights. #winningatlife

My Fitness Pal is going absolutely mad at me for not eating enough calories ….

2lbs down, but not really in the way I’d like….
