1st January start, anyone up for it?

I can't put it off much longer, I am getting very large and uncomfortable. My eating has become very out of control.

I need to shift around 4 stone, not sure exactly as I am to scared to get on the scales.

Anyone want to join me for a big new start and weigh in on Sunday 1st January?

Morning everyone, can I join too please.

Weighed in this morning and have basically undone everything I lost since Jan 2022 in the last few months!

I need to lose 7.5kg

I restarted couch 2 5k this morning with the aim of building back up to park runs in a few weeks.

I also plan to keep to mfp for food accountability.
^
And rewards for myself along the way, I think my first will be after 0.5kg and then every kg, starting with some new trainers.^

Morning
Can I join too?
11st11.5 here which puts me at 75kg. Frankly, that terrifies me as I used to be 65kg. I know how much my 10kg kettle bell weighs and what effort and focus I put into exercising with that and am horrified that I am asking my heart, lungs, joints and muscles to do that every single time I move.
This has to be the year that I actually do something about it.
I have to say I don't want to at all as I am very unfit at the moment so it's going to hurt going back to exercise. I've also spent most of the past couple of years (and certainly the past couple of weeks) grazing on whatever I see and stopping that is going to require a lot of effort. Finally, I'm recovering from flu so still feeling pretty lethargic. However, I am actually killing myself so need to get my act together.
Here goes!

Morning. Yesterday was not perfect. On the plus side I stuck to 16:8 and my meal plan of egg salad and cottage pie and veg BUT my dinner was far too big with lots of mash on the cottage pie plus I had 3 squares of dark chocolate afterwards and an afternoon snack of cheese and nuts even though I planned to dump the snacking altogether. At least I didn't eat any bread.
Today it will be scrambled eggs and mushrooms for lunch and chicken casserole and lots of veg for dinner but I'm going to use a smaller plate for that today. I'm going to allow myself a mid afternoon snack of fruit and see how that goes. I'm not counting calories yet - I'll start that next week - just concentrating on dumping carbs [especially bread] and eating more healthily for this first week. Hope everyone else is doing O.K.

That sounds like good progress - don’t let a stumble make you feel like you failed.

learning2fly · 02/01/2023 10:11

Same as you @Imgonnabeslim23 .. have gained a pound since yesterday and stayed under 1500 cals too. Oh well hopefully just a blip!

scaredysquiggle · 02/01/2023 10:12

Well done to everyone who's made some changes already. I'm still stuck in bed feeling rubbish and am avidly reading this thread and others to stave off insanity.

I'm planning on weighing in every Sunday and might have a sneaky weigh in during the week but not record it.

I'm considering having the same meal every Saturday to make sure my weight and bloat is consistent- I may be overthinking this... 🤪

Battlecat98 · 02/01/2023 10:31

Nooooo I have just weighed myself 77.1 kg I was 67kg in November.

Can someone help me understand this though? I have started a new medication end of November, GP said side effect is weight gain, I wasn't bothered as I needed the drug, BUT.. surely you only gain weight from overeating so, even though I am on this drug I should be able to loose weight 🤔?? . I have eaten really badly. I don't want to stop the drug yet.

HairsprayBabe · 02/01/2023 10:52

11st3 slightly lower than I was expecting aiming for 2st off

I have a system that worked for me before so I am going to attempt the same method, combining a few different diets and hoping for the best

2 fast days at 500cals
3 golden days at 1200ish
2 relaxed days not calorie counting but not going crazy

I found this kept me in a deficit for the week so I lost at a steady rate without being miserable I also do lower carb and no sugar in the week too

I'm attempting a fast day today I'll be on coffee and water till lunchtime then roasted veg soup for lunch then either scrambled eggs or an omelette for dinner

@battlecat - I believe medicine that has weight gain as a side effect impacts your metabolism so you gain weight even if your diet hasn't changed - could be very wrong though

rumbypumby · 02/01/2023 11:08

Only coffee so far today. Much needed as I've had very little sleep.
Wont be eating til around 1.

I'm going to collect the shopping before then and we will have a nice stocked up fridge and freezer again after all of the Christmas goodies.

Lunch (breakfast) will probably be soup of some kind.
Dinner is chicken stir fry.

Mumstheword2022 · 02/01/2023 11:13

Hey all

so day one, yesterday, wasn’t my finest! All day drinking session with friends and I had Diet Coke and two halves of lager; this is a win!

however, we needed up with both lunch and tea out and I ate about four days calories 🫣

so today is a restart

weetabix, yoghurt and fruit so far and logged on MFP.

back at work tomorrow and barely have time to eat on a Tuesday so will pack only healthy snacks and take one day at a time.

oh and don’t want to do Dry Jan but will need to limit alcohol intake if I am honest

JoyPeaceSleep · 02/01/2023 11:14

@Battlecat98 I don't know but it's interesting and frustrating. Apart from the medications that interfere with insulin, that is easier to understand, but then if you're on a drug that increases appetite that's going to be hard. Eat your calories in fat like cheese to avoid hunger. If it's a drug that slows the metabolism, keep moving even if it's just slow walking. I am probably talking out of my ass but that's what I would do. I'm always optimistic that there's a solution to every problem! Feel your pain though1

Twateralflow · 02/01/2023 11:28

I completed yoga with Adrienne last night. 8km run this morning. I haven't eaten yet as intermittent fasting works well for me. I'm going to have a smoothie and hope that sees me through til dinner

2023istheyearigetmyacttogether · 02/01/2023 11:39

OMG! Just went to the gym. I did a 15 min weight work out which was OK, probably because I used half the weight that I used to use. I then did 30 mins on the cross trainer as I always consider that to be the cheat cardio as it's so much easier than running.
First 2 - 3 mins were "this feels so good. I can't believe I haven't been here for so long. I'm really going to enjoy coming every day". Followed by 27 mins of "owwww!! When will this end? Am I dying? How can I be this unfit? Owwww!! I can't breathe! How can it hurt this much on the lowest setting?"
Apparently, I did burn 400 cals. Which is probably the equivalent of one mini mince pie. Or one segment of chocolate orange, both of which I have eaten in vast quantities this Christmas.
I think I need to spend the entire day stretching in order to be able to move tomorrow.

anonexhausted · 02/01/2023 11:44

Good morning all :) big bowl porridge is surprisingly filling - only managed half of it! Everything tracked so far and meals for the day planned. Keep going everyone

Mumski45 · 02/01/2023 13:12

Bike ride done and 510 calories used. Goal now is not to eat them all back over the day but to eat half and 'bank' the other half. Hope I can stick to it. I've had a small breakfast and lunch and now have about 1000c left for the rest of the day.

wizzler · 02/01/2023 13:52

Still avoiding the chocolate. Have agreed to play tennis tonight. ( providing the courts aren't icy) predict I will ache all over tomorrow but all in a good cause!

scaredysquiggle · 02/01/2023 13:53

Am incredibly envious of everyone who is doing some exercise. Cannot wait to get back to the gym

Mumski45 · 02/01/2023 14:00

How on earth do you count the calories when out for a meal eating tapas. The problem is you have a small plate but keep filling it so you don't really know how much you have eaten. Need to think about this before tonight.

Same, in injured and it's killing me. Missed my favourite Zumba class today and I could have cried!

AutumnOcean · 02/01/2023 15:24

Can I join please? I have about a stone of baby weight to lose. Will jump on the scales in a couple of days when my period ends.
Good luck everyone

Atomsaway · 02/01/2023 15:35

Stood on the scales yesterday. 12 stone 2lbs so not as bad as I thought just after Christmas.

Not going to weigh myself again for at least a month to try and avoid disappointment and giving up.

Easing myself into a whole food vegan diet slowly. Veggie first and then giving up the milk, cheese (and milk chocolate!)

Good luck everyone!

comeon2023 · 02/01/2023 17:08

does anyone have tips for only weighing once a week and not getting obsessed with the scales??? I guess it just takes willpower like everything else... I actually didn't even keep bathroom scales in the house for YEARS cos in my teens-early 20s I would go through phases of weighing myself twice a day and thinking about it all the time. I just bought some new scales cos right now I have a very specific goal (lose 10kg so I can do IVF) and I'm determined to only get on them once a week but I've wanted to about 10 times a day!

JoyPeaceSleep · 02/01/2023 17:12

I'm weighing everyday while I'm overweight. If I get in to the normal category I'll see how maintenance goes, weigh less frequently, but at the moment, it's encouraging me as I'm seeing results.
It can be demoralising though I know.

JoyPeaceSleep · 02/01/2023 17:14

I just weigh once in the morning on the grounds that that is the figure I make a note of and what would I do if the number was different later in the day!!

Majorityofthree23 · 02/01/2023 17:16

I weigh every morning and am ok with that. I then get an average over the week. I think whatever works for the individual. Sometimes if scales don't move it's annoying but usually I can see some change elsewhere when I'm eating healthily. ie jeans looser etc.

SliceoQuiche · 02/01/2023 17:21

Yesterday was a write off as I needed to carb myself out of the hangover from NYE. I’ve tried to stop drinking this past year but have a very pushy group of friends that make it difficult, so need to add ‘grow a pair’ to my new years goals!

Had a pot of porridge about 1pm today and now cooking Nando’s style chicken and rice, with lots of peppers and onion. Then a cuppa about half 7 and I’ll be done eating until tomorrow afternoon!
