Not playing with the kids like I want to, never going swimming, never having my picture taken. Cant wear the clothes I want to, miss out on activities I would do if I wasnt worried, Sooo unfit.

My list goes on and on but I can stop there as I bet you know what I mean if you are reading this.

Feel free to join me in my mission to reclaim life as a person who doesn't think about the swing breaking or getting stuck on the slide. Being able to take the stairs without being breathless at the top and take a family picture without the dread.

The short term struggle will be worth the long term effects...

(if no one replies I plan to write here anyway and stay on track)... thanks.

I had a horrendous headache yesterday on my first day... I think it was the sugar crash!

I had a migraine yesterday with sickness as well
Still got it now no medication is working
I think sugar crash is right on but with me I am wondering if to add lack of chocolate

Glenthebattleostrich · 30/12/2022 10:26

Good morning! Day 1 here for me. Back from visiting family and finished my course of steroids so hopefully the urge to eat everything will be gone in the next couple of days.

Weighed myself this morning and am 14st 10.8lb. Heaviest Ive ever been and my double chin has a triple chin.

Decided to go down the intermittent fasting/ lower carb route as this works best for me mentally and helps my PPMD and IBS. And after being stuck in traffic for 4 hours yesterday that's a must.

I'm loving the organization and will add a treat to it, non food based, for every 5lb. So far I have - long bath with my favourite treat bath oil, Alan Rickman Diaries, Get nails done, get brows and lashes tinted, new favorite moisturizer. These should take me to 25lb. Hopefully by then I'll have seen a physio for my Achilles tendon and can start properly exercising. Exercise really motivates me to lose weight because why waste time sweating my arse off if I'm just going to eat crisps?

todays plan is -

Fast until 12
10000 steps
Keep to 1600 calories
Do a stock check of the freezer so I can meal plan for the month tomorrow.
Make a portion of something healthy to go in the freezer while making tea.

I have the Garmin on charge and am off for a shower soon to get moving with my day!

@SameMeButBetter I know you are starting properly on the 2nd but no reason to not put your fab mantra into place now. I know there's loads of treats about but a healthy person would have 1 or 2 not half a box. And a Christmas meal is just a roast with a couple of extra bits. So keep your portions good and enjoy but don't over do. You are inspiring us with your organization skills.

Glenthebattleostrich · 30/12/2022 10:27

@surreygirl1987 @supersaluki lots of water for the inevitable sugar crash headache. I find it's the only thing that helps unfortunately!

supersaluki · 30/12/2022 11:11

Glenthebattleostrich yeah been doing that sugar free mulled wine cordial
Only tastes of mulled wine

Been sick on and off all night I am now back to bed and sipping cordial
Even plain water is making me sick so gone back very weak cordial

Hope everyone else is doing well

surreygirl1987 · 30/12/2022 14:18

Lost 2 pounds in 2 days... not too bad a start. Going to try to lose half a stone per month as a target. Realistic or not? I am quite a few stone overweight...

Glenthebattleostrich · 30/12/2022 14:55

Brilliant start @surreygirl1987 and 7lb a month is a great target.

surreygirl1987 · 30/12/2022 16:28

Thanks! I hope day 1 is going well!

1Step2Step · 01/01/2023 11:46

I started properly today. I stuck to three modest meals and had an icecream after dinner. 1200 calories today. I was still feeling a bit seedy from last night so didn’t do any decent exercise but I did take the dog to the off-leash park and walked a couple of laps there. My weight is 80.2 kg / 12.6 stone and I am 162cm /5’3. This equates to a size 14 on me. I have set a medium term goal of losing 10kg/ 1.6 stone in 16 weeks. I want be down to 62kg / 9.8 stone by Christmas 2023.

My biggest challenge is staying of the wine. It’s my afternoon vice. The longest I’ve been teetotal recently has been 2 weeks 😬

Glenthebattleostrich · 01/01/2023 12:00

Day 3 in the chubby Geordie house. Glen has successfully dechristmasified the house, fasted for 14 hours and is about to embark on a mammoth batch cook!

So, Happy New Year all, hopefully your evening was better than mine. My 12 year old is being Kevin the Teenager and her NY resolution is to piss off Mum as much as is humanly possible. Something she started practicing at the start of December and is rather talented at! Yay 🤔🤬

Today, I am preparing lunches for the next month which consists of various quiches to go in the freezer. Possibly a steak pie for tea on Tuesday to have with Halloumi fries.

I've decided against dry January (see above re child) so am putting it to use. One hour of volunteering for every drink in January. I've already emailed Age UK and am open to suggestions! I will be cutting it out Sunday to Thursday though because I have work and the G&T while cooking dinner has snuck back in so needs to be stopped.

Having fasted for 3 days I've lost a whole 0.2lb but I've been munching on party food and other goodies during my eating window so ok with that. Just want the habit set before I'm back at work on Tuesday.

Off for a good stomp through the woods later and decided dragging boxes of decorations around counts as weight training for today!

Hope everyone is having a lovely New Years Day.

surreygirl1987 · 01/01/2023 16:56

Great start everyone!

I'm really liking the way they now put calories on menus. I went out for lunch today and it was ao useful to be able to work out lower calorie items on the menu and swaps I could make (I was amazed, for instance, that sweet potato fired were 250 cals fewer than chips!!). Still lots more calories than I would have liked but I'll just have a bowl of vegetable soup for dinner this eve.

BadgerButty · 01/01/2023 18:59

Lovely to hear about other people’s successes. I’m actuallyfeeling quite positive about weight loss and healthier living as we start this new year (I’m writing that down here so that when my motivation wanes I can come back and read this and keep myself on the right track!). I’ve got a goal in mind but just taking it one day at a time.

Britinme · 01/01/2023 19:22

I'm starting in tomorrow - have put on about four or five pounds over the last month and need to get shot of it, and the rest.

Lessofmein2023 · 02/01/2023 01:11

Hi everyone, I will be joining you on Tuesday. I need to lose at least a stone and a half, probably two, although I’m not exactly sure what I weigh. I just know I can’t do my winter coat up and that I look awful in all my clothes. I will be eating low carb as I know that works for me. Not the “all the bacon you can eat and not much else” low carb, it’s healthy protein plus healthy fats and low carb fruit and vegetables. I love reading all your positive posts. Happy Healthy New Year to us all.

Vaccine001 · 02/01/2023 10:03

Lost 100lb since 2022 . Another 100lb to go

Glenthebattleostrich · 02/01/2023 11:05

Good morning!

Day 4 has started well with a nice lie in, a 1lb off on the scales and a dog walk. Steps are rubbish this week but I'm back at work tomorrow so they'll be up in the 12000's again then.

Today I am doing some laundry, finding freezer space for the huge amounts of batch cooked lunches I made and making a lovely roast pork dinner. Fasting is happening! I'm very hungry this morning but planning a nice bowl of soup for lunch.

@Vaccine001 that is an amazing loss, well done!

Britinme · 02/01/2023 13:09

Day I for me. 14st 2lb, which is a 4lb gain over the last month. But I did not restrain myself over Christmas and I fell and sprained my ankle, pulled a calf muscle and wrenched a knee badly two weeks ago so I haven't done much walking in the last fortnight. It's still a bit sore but better than it was.

We had a belated Christmas dinner so I still have some Christmas bits to use up, but we've polished off the most fattening ones! Veggie soup for lunch with a slice of toast and a piece of toast. Turkey curry for dinner. I roasted a big batch of veggies last night (using the spray) so it's an easy curry with a jar of sauce and the leftover turkey and the veggies. I'll split it into six portions so that's two meals for us and two portions in the freezer. I recently got a rice cooker so brown rice is easy with it.

I'm basically doing Slimming World style as that suits me pretty well.

Britinme · 02/01/2023 13:10

That's actually only one slice of toast...

surreygirl1987 · 02/01/2023 15:12

Wow that's amazing!!

I roasted a big batch of veggies last night (using the spray)

I need to do this.. love roast veggies and find them really filling!

You and I are the same weight but this is my day 2. I don't do breakfast except for a couple of cups of tea. Lunch will be a 2 egg omelette with some ham and spring onions and a sprinkle of Parmesan and some cucumber and tomatoes. Dinner is meatballs and pasta and some stewed apples and blackberries, cooked in sugar-free apple and blackcurrant squash.

PanicAtTheBigTesco · 03/01/2023 15:29

Arghh just typed a massive post and lost it as my phone ran out of battery! So here goes...

I would love to join and today will be Day 1 for me. Weighed in at 16st 12 this morning which made me feel utterly sick. That would mean losing nearly 7st to be a 'healthy' weight. In reality I would be VERY happy to be around 12st and a size 14. We are going on a hilly city break in May and then have a few weddings so my initial aim is going to be 14st by then but even if I've not lost that much by then to at least be much fitter. I'm aiming to stick 1500-1700 calories a day and either 10,000 steps, a gym class or a swim. My main issue is making one bad food choice and using that as an excuse to write off the rest of the day/week/month etc. I'm going to try my best to take each day as it comes. E.g. I ate a load of chocolate and biscuits for breakfast today but with a healthy lunch and dinner I'm still under my calorie goal so I need to draw a line under this morning and carry on.

I've made a list in my phone of all the reasons I want to lose weight as well as a folder of some awful pictures of me over Xmas. Despite being 15st+ for the last 3 years I've always been happy and confident in my body and thought I still was until I realised yesterday that I had been shying away from the camera all Christmas (or using the dog to cover me up BlushGrin). I've also just remembered I still have a gorgeous dress I wore to a wedding 5 years ago when I was around 14st so I might get that out and hang it on the wardrobe as motivation so I can wear it to one of the ones I have this summer.

Some great losses so far, as a PP said, Onwards and Downwards!

SameMeButBetter · 03/01/2023 18:48

Funnily enough I've just set a horrendous picture of me and dh as my wallpaper so I keep being reminded of what I'm trying to change!!

I try to think of slip ups like this, if you had a box of chocolates and dropped one, you wouldn't throw the rest of the box away too (ok bad analogy - a bunch of flowers and one wilted, you don't need to bin the entire bunch) I think I saw it on here once actually and it stuck

I've managed 14k steps however I'm not sure it's correct whilst I would like to take the credit, not sure how to check without buying something else which I don't want to do.. hmm

Day 1 for me today. I couldn’t bear to see the number on the scales this morning so I took a picture of it and will look at it in a few days. Breakfast was frozen blueberries warmed up and some crunchy almond butter. Lunch was a chocolate protein shake that I added spinach and avocado to. Dinner was chicken with a salad, some raw courgette and a sweet potato.

I haven’t drunk enough water or got enough steps in today.

surreygirl1987 · 04/01/2023 00:16

Oh this is so me as well!!

Britinme · 04/01/2023 02:48

I sprained my ankle and pulled some leg muscles quite badly in a fall just before Christmas so I've rested it a lot and it isn't really better yet - was still quite puffy when I went to bed though it's not hurting as much as it was and I've managed without painkillers at night the last two nights. However, I'm not about to do anything much in the way of exercise until it's completely better.
