The Butterfly effect from being fat is whats going to get me thin.

Not playing with the kids like I want to, never going swimming, never having my picture taken. Cant wear the clothes I want to, miss out on activities I would do if I wasnt worried, Sooo unfit.

My list goes on and on but I can stop there as I bet you know what I mean if you are reading this.

Feel free to join me in my mission to reclaim life as a person who doesn't think about the swing breaking or getting stuck on the slide. Being able to take the stairs without being breathless at the top and take a family picture without the dread.

The short term struggle will be worth the long term effects...

(if no one replies I plan to write here anyway and stay on track)... thanks.

Hello id like to join. I have recently had a bereavement and I’m frightened. I’m hoping this will be the tipping point for
me
to be healthy again x

DifferentYearSameShit · 26/12/2022 13:58

I joined SW before Xmas and I'm actually going back on Wed even though I scoffed myself daft the week before Xmas and on Xmas day now I'm back on it. I've never ever gone back when I'm fallen of the donkey before but this time I'm actually ready to not be as fat as I am.
I want to wear my pretty size 14/16 dresses not the 5 size 18 I can only wear now. That's my inspiration. And I'm 50 in Jan and I look in the mirror and see my dead mother!!!

I've thought about it, my plan is to reduce calories and move more. All in a non diet way but more thinking like a healthy person.

My mantra is WAHPET. - Would a Healthy Person Eat this? No they wouldnt eat a entire cheesecake? Or the secret jelly beans I have hidden upstairs? Oh ok then I'll have to swerve that from now on..

I found that making good choices quickly became addictive, you just have to find the willpower to get past the first few days. A slice of cheesecake can be a good choice if it's in moderation and, as you say, it doesn't turn into eating an entire cake. This healthy person most definitely does have chocolate biscuits on occasion, I just have one instead of eight.

It's true that you can't exercise to overcome a bad diet but signing up for a gym class membership was a game changer for me. I take classes before work and the endorphin hit really does motivate me to make those good food choices for the rest of the day. If you do something similar you may find like me that you are unable to walk properly after the first class but it does get better.

caffelattetogo · 26/12/2022 15:53

I'd love to join you. I'd love to lose 5 stone, but even 3 stone would be wonderful! Together we can do this.

Richtea67 · 26/12/2022 16:18

At least 2 stone to lose here....I love the WAHPET mantra. I also plan to pick up couch to 5k again when the weather improves.

SameMeButBetter · 26/12/2022 18:19

That's why the mantra should work though, it means nothing is off limits - but a Healthy Person knows limits and stops. That's exactly why it should work as its not feast or famine it's sensible.

Loving WAHPET.

My day starts today. But I will weigh tomorrow because I have just had two cuips of coffee. I might weigh every second day- I find for me that works better becaause my mind is on it.

My tweaks will be to have calorie free drinks and to pay attention to portion sizes. I will check in later!

herbaltea21 · 27/12/2022 07:54

Hello! I'd love to make some friends and get dome support with this weight loss!
I'm going to start slimming world in the new year, but as it's my sons birthday on the 7th and he's having a party in the 8th I'm going to start that the following weekend. Would love to shift a few pounds sbefore the t bough!
I've had a year of horrible non commitment dieting which has effecting me so much. I NEED to get back on too and loose 1.5 stone!
Sock of feeling frimpy and not enjoying my clothes. Also sick of binge eating and having no control!!

chalkyc2 · 27/12/2022 09:32

Bloody 7 stone to lose here. More than my 12 year old weighs 😳

@stoptheasshat -Yes - me too - I'm pretty sure I didn't get the promotion I want (and deserve) this year due to my appearance.

stoptheasshat · 27/12/2022 10:16

@chalkyc2 I think I got my job because the interviews were all on Zoom! I genuinely wonder if that would have been the case if I'd attended in person.
I'm sorry about your not-promotion.
The perception that overweight = lazy is a tough one to crack and overweight as somehow not good enough to promote is about the only prejudice that is still "acceptable" ....
I need to get out of this stupid cycle
7 stone to go!

SameMeButBetter · 27/12/2022 11:46

Ok. So I have weighed myself and worked out the recommended calorie intake to be aware of.

I can't find a measuring tape so used my watch to do a watch to do a scan and it says 47.7% body fat, Taking with a pinch of salt but it's right with all the other measurements..google says that's not good!

Day 1 starting weight 14st 1

I have around 2.5 stone to lose. I'm not sure when to start this as it's hard around Christmas time!

But is it a cop out to start on the 1st?

I had a gift voucher for John Lewis so I bought a Fitbit last night. I'm hoping this will help.

Although my issue is I have an 18 month old who is still breastfeeding a lot and waking up numerous times at night to feed... so I'm shattered! The thought of exercise drains me

Gemmanorthdevon · 27/12/2022 12:07

I'm in, 5 stone to lose here!! Done it twice before but now I'm old ( 40 soon! ) and it's not happening like it did before!

IToldYouAmillionTimesAlready · 27/12/2022 12:12

I need to lose about 6 stone Sad.
I was very ill in summer last year -on life support then a stroke, from which the recovery was all a struggle. Less active, at home all the time - gained 2.5st

Must do something soon

Mamadoodoo · 27/12/2022 12:14

I'll join! I'm 5,3" and 14st 3lb. I want to lose at least 3 stone. I'm a huge comfort eater so I need to start making good health choices and be more active. Good luck everyone!

zaffa · 27/12/2022 13:07

StartupRepair · 26/12/2022 11:07

I'm in. Got a lot to lose. This is going to be the year of health for me.

Snap. The year of health. Things are so out of control and I have about 8 stone to lose but I'm going to take it one stone at a time

Drywhitefruitycidergin · 27/12/2022 13:17

Can I join - need to overhaul day to day living. First holiday abroad in years in August & need to reduce cholesterol before I go back to Doc in 6 months.

Onynx · 27/12/2022 13:38

@Mamadoodoo I'm exactly the same.

1Step2Step · 27/12/2022 13:56

I would love to join. I had my gallbladder out 3 months ago and need to clean up my diet drastically. I’ve put on almost 2 stone since Covid started (wine and cheese are my downfall)

SnowAndIceLobelia · 27/12/2022 20:29

evening.

My day 1 is done and dusted. I drank herbal teas, black coffees and sparkling water all day so that aim is ticked off. Smile

Smaller portions than normal. I made use of my portion control plate. I had a couple of jelly babies after dinner instead of chocolate biscuits.

I will weigh in tomorrow!

Thanks OP. :)

ohfourfoxache · 27/12/2022 20:36

Tentatively joining…..

I’d love to lose 4 stone but atm I’d be happy even losing 4lbs. Horrendously inactive, antidepressants have caused weight gain and I use 🍷 as a temporary crutch

It’s so much more than just “going on a diet” - I need a complete overhaul

SameMeButBetter · 27/12/2022 22:33

So my day 1 wasnt as strict as I would have liked it but I did geek out and print out some checklists and plan out how my days will be organised when schools go back and there's a routine for work etc..

Also got dh on board for a health kick but he's refusing to start til 2nd and usually only needs to think about a salad and he's lost a lb... not sure I'll find that helpful..

Must say real name Hazel
I am all set for a 29th December start
Menus written for first week
Small treats thought of written on slips of paper to be chosen at ram after weigh in
New book nails done, time to me for a pamper session a massage
When I get to target i am off to a MUA and will then buy what is recommended

And then a careful look at clothes and a restyling for me at mid 60's

Anewagain · 28/12/2022 07:39

I’m in too - loving the WAHPET motto. Day 1 for me was yesterday. I’ve got at least 3 stone to lose but losing just 1 stone even would begin to make a real difference to how I feel.
