Not playing with the kids like I want to, never going swimming, never having my picture taken. Cant wear the clothes I want to, miss out on activities I would do if I wasnt worried, Sooo unfit.

My list goes on and on but I can stop there as I bet you know what I mean if you are reading this.

Feel free to join me in my mission to reclaim life as a person who doesn't think about the swing breaking or getting stuck on the slide. Being able to take the stairs without being breathless at the top and take a family picture without the dread.

The short term struggle will be worth the long term effects...

(if no one replies I plan to write here anyway and stay on track)... thanks.

MY problem is drinking wine then eating the contents of the fridge. But when I stop drinking I think of all the calories I have saved and make too many visiits to McDonalds.

EnglishGirlApproximately · 26/12/2022 09:44

I'd love to join you but I've been here before and nothing has managed to stick. Any advice from those of you that have been successful on how to get the in the right mind set?
We have committed to trying a veggie month in January as DS doesn't particularly enjoy meat so that will be a good start to the project - as long as I don't over load everything with cheese!

LemonDrizzles · 26/12/2022 09:47

I'd like to join

Kamiros · 26/12/2022 09:55

I'd like to join too. I've put on 3 stone following 6 rounds of ivf, steroids, thyroid problems etc. (still no baby). I need to get healthier and lose the weight before going again.... too easy to make excuses, time to change.

Jumbocoffee · 26/12/2022 10:17

I’m in. I need to shed at least 6 stone. Between work and my two special needs children, I’ve stopped looking after myself and I’m fed up with how the weight is affecting my life. Previously I did the Cambridge diet but think the restrictions is too much. So I’m going for smaller portions, lots of water and dog walking.

Tilllly · 26/12/2022 10:28

clpsmum · 26/12/2022 03:50

I have six stone to lose 😢😢

No you don't

You have half a stone to lose. 12 times 😊

Aim for half a stone and take it from there

Tilllly · 26/12/2022 10:34

Why not pick one change each fortnight?

walk three times a week

Go swimming once a week

Eat breakfast

Drink 2 pints of water a day

Eat 5 pieces of fruit a day

Get 10,000 steps in, 5 times a week

Meal plan / prep 5 times a week

Stuff like that
It gradually builds in healthy habits and it's not too overwhelming

My top tip is mindset. You're not depriving yourself of anything, you're CHOOSING to eat and live differently

SnowAndIceLobelia · 26/12/2022 10:34

I am going for calorie free drinks (so lots of lovely sparkling water) and smaller portions with two serves of fruit and veg at each meal. I also have one of those dividied up portion plates which I plan to actually STICK to.

SameMeButBetter · 26/12/2022 10:38

Wow I thought I was going to be on here alone!

So many already have done great losses too its impressive

I have about 4.5 - 5 stone to lose depending on how the clothes feel at the end of it.

I'm going to take a day or 2 to work out my plan as no idea what works best for me, and everyone is different - my friend is doing well with intermittent fasting but I need to take tablets throughout the day with food so thats out!

For me though, I'm not going to refer to it as a DIET. I am not dieting.. I am getting myself together and New me knows that she cant have a treat for the sake of it anymore. and lots of other things will need to change about my habits and lifestyle that just don't work for a healthy person... I need to lead by example or the kids are going to grow up with all sorts of bad habits and mindsets and be in the same boat as they become adults! (its possibly too late for the 13 year old!)

I have a couple of stone to loose so will join you on here. Good luck OP and to all the other posters.

After drinking some lovely sparkling water with my Christmas lunch yesterday I have decided that I am buying bottled sparkling water to help me. I know it is bad for the environment, but so is all the other rubbish I drink so it probably balances out. If I can drink more water throughout the day, I should be less hungry and want less cups of milky sugary tea etc.

This is going to be my first step. Trying a full on diet wont work for me due to other health issues, but if I generally try to be healtheir, picking a more Mediterranean diet without limiting myself too much, I hope it will work and even if I don't loose much weight, I will be eating (and drinking) healthier.

Cowsontheloose · 26/12/2022 11:00

Yes I have too many stones too lose

surreygirl1987 · 26/12/2022 11:04

Joining. Am starting tomorrow. I used to have an amazing body and could cry about what it's become.

Icecreamandapplepie · 26/12/2022 11:06

In an ideal world, I'd lose three stone.

I'm going to start with a stone.

Will get on the scales (replacing the battery first) today, when at my heaviest (to make losing those first few pounds a bit easier!). Then I'm going to eat better and less, and move more. Youngest is nearly 6 and there's no excuse now.

This will be our year!

StartupRepair · 26/12/2022 11:07

I'm in. Got a lot to lose. This is going to be the year of health for me.

Rainsdropskeepfalling · 26/12/2022 11:09

I'm in.

I need to drink more water for a start. I've got the sodastream out and some lemons as I'll easily drink litres of water when it's a bit "special" (bubbles and citrus)

First small step.

Then I need to work on half of my plate at supper being veg. Ideally green.

Second small step.

I wish writing things down made it happen - that's where I fail.

2023yearofchange · 26/12/2022 11:22

I would definitely like to join please!

I would like some photos of me not looking 4 stone overweight / obese with my children at Christmas next year. Am tired of camera and reflection dodging.

Also my son told me yesterday he is worried about my weight. Time to change.

2023yearofchange · 26/12/2022 11:25

My plan is to go mainly vegetarian with meat only once or maybe twice a week. No sweet things at all, just some fruit but more vegetables than fruit overall. Some carbs but smaller portions. Loads of hot and sweaty walking!

Rogue1001MNer · 26/12/2022 11:34

Morning all.

I have a similar to many of you to lose 2 - 2 1/2 stone).
And I've already lost a couple.

I've restarted the exercise regime I stopped over covid (this was back in the summer) and having exercise in my life again feels great. I'm still unfit, but I'm deffo getting fitter and have more energy.

Like a PP, my weight loss plateaued in December, so my plan is to get on it with renewed vigor in January.
I like the suggestion above of half stone milestones. I'd LOVE to make 4 of them by May, but we'll see.

My downfall is snacking at work (I'm fine at home). I find it impossible to sit at my desk and NOT feed my face, and don't know how to overcome this habit. (I do take healthy snacks).
It's learning to control this urge that will make the difference for me in 2023, I think.

If anyone has any tips for how to do this, I'd be so grateful.

I already eat healthily and exercise regularly.
I had cut massively down on drinking alcohol, although consumption crept up in December, so I need to put more energy into not giving in to that urge.

I look forward to sharing experiences with you guys as time goes on

Glenthebattleostrich · 26/12/2022 11:43

Hello! Can I join in? Put 2 stone on since i hurt my Achilles in August. Going to lose that by end of summer term.

I can't do much exercise at the moment without pain so taking it fairly easy, 10000 steps per day, getting food back under control and dry January. And stopping the constant grazing. Lucky (!) got crap chocolate I don't like for Christmas so no challenge avoiding that!!

I have some gorgeous size 14's i will be in by end of July! Need to try them on every week as motivation.

SameMeButBetter · 26/12/2022 12:13

I've thought about it, my plan is to reduce calories and move more. All in a non diet way but more thinking like a healthy person.

My mantra is WAHPET. - Would a Healthy Person Eat this? No they wouldnt eat a entire cheesecake? Or the secret jelly beans I have hidden upstairs? Oh ok then I'll have to swerve that from now on..

2023yearofchange · 26/12/2022 12:54

I know I'm someone who seems to need a fair bit of exercise and I put on weight when I stop. I'm also an emotional eater and always have been. So I will need to become more aware of these behaviours!!

2023yearofchange · 26/12/2022 12:55

Thanks for starting the thread OP!

supersaluki · 26/12/2022 12:57

I am going to record my journey very differently from before
I am going to weigh myself
But write down how many pounds I think I need to lose - but its how I feel look clothes etc -
And deduct from there
Will keep it very visible but no one but me will know how much I actually weigh
So each week will be a new what I want to lose not how much I weigh as I get nearer to feeling fit looking how I want etc I will reevaluate

Britinme · 26/12/2022 13:14

I can't do much exercise at the moment without pain so taking it fairly easy, 10000 steps per day

I don't think I've managed 10000 steps a day at all this year and am unlikely to do so in future. But it isn't actually essential. The figure was made up out of whole cloth somewhere around 1965. Obviously some exercise is better than no exercise, and different people have different levels of need for exercise, but the research doesn't back up 10000 steps.

SameMeButBetter · 26/12/2022 13:39

I am also going to record things differently this time. (Because im telling my brain its not a diet)

I'm going to print off a daily tracker sheet to stick to the fridge and mark off each day I'm pleased with how I did. My requirements for earning a tick will increase each week/month.
And also instead of weighing myself all the time I'm just going to weigh at the beginning and then once a month.

Slightly complicated but necessary for me.

I am not trying to diet but I am trying to lose a lot of weight and set healthy examples for the dc.
