Thought I'd save you the hassle @poorpaws.

Well done for those who have lost and good luck to those struggling.

My focus at the moment is just to be wiser for food selection and to keep active. The slow moving scales can wait although I did check this morning and showing I'm nearly back to 14 and a half stone.

@poorpaws that’s a good motivator!

BeyondMyWits · 12/03/2023 12:54

Well done all... hope everyone is feeling well. That is indeed a good motivator... 4 weeks to Easter and I DO want to lose 4lb... thanks for the reminder! Don't want to just rest on the boost week loss, need to keep it going.

poorpaws · 12/03/2023 13:03

I think 4 lbs would be a good loss by Easter and if we could all manage it, it would be fantastic progress.

I love Easter eggs so that's my incentive. I've got one from DP, daughter buys me one, but I usually buy myself a few. 😋

thenewaveragebear1983 · 12/03/2023 13:16

Yes. I want to lose 4 14 pounds please!! I am in!

Zebracat · 12/03/2023 16:12

4 pounds wld be great. 2 kilos is 4.4 pounds and would be even better. I am writing as I lie, beached on my sofa after far too good a Sunday lunch. Never mind, I swam and I won’t eat again today.

Zebracat · 12/03/2023 16:14

@poorpaws I also love Easter eggs.I only get 1 tho, so I like it to be good!

poorpaws · 12/03/2023 17:19

Ooh ooh ! I've had a NSV, first one for ages.

I buy M&S jeans three pairs at a time. Today I got a hole in the knee on one pair and discovered they are now discontinued. But last year as I was losing weight (before I messed it all up in December) I bought a smaller pair.

I found them today, still with tags on and they fit!!!! I know M&S jeans are on the large side and these ones do stretch but still I am delighted. Size 12. 😇 yay!

effiesgoldwig · 12/03/2023 19:27

Well done @poorpaws that's always a great feeling. I've fallen off the wagon this weekend . Trying to put it behind me and get back on track tomorrow.

TalkToTheHand123 · 12/03/2023 22:30

Aww thanks @thenewaveragebear1983 , not sure if it was covid but wasn't nice, although only lasted for about 3 or 4 days. Feeling a lot better now.

Slowly improving the eating habit so fingers crossed I feel confident enough to weigh myself at Easter and the scales are kind to me!

Zebracat · 12/03/2023 22:34

@poorpaws . That’s wonderful. Well done you

poorpaws · 13/03/2023 07:58

we finished boost week last Wednesday evening so I weighed on Thursday morning and since then I've lost another 3/4 of a lb by today, my usual Monday weigh-in day. Pleased with that because it did include the weekend but wasn't a full week.

Good luck to all weighers, may the Scale Gods be good to you.

poorpaws · 13/03/2023 07:59

Get back on the wagon everyone, we all want 4 lbs off for Easter and it's only 4 weeks away.

Zebracat · 13/03/2023 08:55

96 kilos today, so I have lost 200 grams since Thursday, not too bad at all. Going to battle my way thru the storm to the pool now.

BeyondMyWits · 13/03/2023 11:00

Well done for the nsv... I'm not weighing til next Monday, I like to have at least a week in between. But, have been good, so still on the wagon not chasing it round in circles any more!

Meal planning is my key thing to master right now. Found that from the boost week.

Gottoloveatakeaway · 13/03/2023 16:59

@BeyondMyWits totally agree meal planning is the way forward for me. When i fall of the wagon always because i havent done this and winging it always results in more calories

Bjarnum · 13/03/2023 22:49

I'm on holiday with family and dieting is out the window - will get back on it after Friday. (Due to surgery issues I am pretty immobile and so the family are kindly cooking for me - it seems churlish to ask for a special diet)

poorpaws · 14/03/2023 08:03

@Bjarnum have a lovely holiday and come back to us refreshed and ready to press the restart button.

It's going quite well here, but I have to be careful this afternoon because my sister-in-law is coming and I've bought chocolate oaty biscuits for her to have with her coffee. I must not have any (and I do love them).

Trying to stay on track for a 1 lb loss this week. I bought some muesli for a bit of a change from my normal porridge. I weighed out a 45 g serving and I could hardly see it in the bottom of the bowl. I'm sure I would normally have at least four times that amount, at the very least.😞

Justkoko · 14/03/2023 16:47

I'm a bit of a lurker and only pop by now and again so hope you dont mind. I've got weddings and holidays and all sorts of lovely things coming up this year and after lockdoom weight gain I'm worse off than ever.
I've come to the point that I can't follow a very prescriptive diet, the very thought of restriction now sends cravings off the chart. It's rubbish. I need to create a plan which I enjoy with foods I like.
Is half a stone a month a ridiculous target? I do have it to lose BTW.

I realise now I cannot give up pasta. So I have to find a way to eat it and lose weight. I am aiming to eat it cold or reheated where possible to increase the resistant starch.

My problem at the moment is my flipping appetite! I just don't seem to feel full so after work I get 'snacky' (or after breakfast or dinner 🙄)

I also get confused about calorie targets. I'm pretty sedentary with an office job do sny exercise I do I see as a bonus. Do I eat 1200-1400 calories and risk a mess up of my metabolism or fo I eat 1700 calories and risk not losing anything at all? And how do I feel more full up to stop the snacking?

thenewaveragebear1983 · 14/03/2023 18:05

Hi @Justkoko i get ‘snacky’ too and I find the more I do it, the more I want. Weirdly I want to snack much less frequently when I don’t snack. I Also find that I need a lot of protein and a lot of water and if I don’t get them in I really notice the evening snacking.

I had a loooooong day today. Up a 5.45 for the gym, then my day in the office, now home. Ds is poorly so no football today, but I timed my click and collect for after football so I still need to go out! My tooth is still infected and annoyed me today, not painful but still swollen and still infected in the cavity. I ate porridge, raspberries and chia this morning, leftover chicken and Cous cous and roasted veg, 2 apples and a raw/nut bar. Not sure about dinner, I’m actually not hungry and the family are having pasta bake which I can happily go without, so I might wait til my shopping is here and just have a bowl of soup.

I have to get some steps in though, I’m only on 3500 so far so I need to get a podcast on and go out for a walk this evening. And I haven’t drink anywhere near enough water as I forgot my water bottle for work

Zebracat · 14/03/2023 18:26

Hi @Justkoko . Welcome. I agree that you can get out of the habit of snacking, and it’s really good if you do.

I’ve had a lovely day out today, but with quite a big lunch. I was careful, so careful that I came out quite hungry. I’m going to try and add up the calories now. I feel quite proud of myself that I didn't just see it as free calories and go bonkers.

Justkoko · 15/03/2023 11:01

Can you think of simple meals which really kill your appetite? I'll start:

I was having Greek yogurt in the morning a while back and it surprised me how it just shut down any hungry feelings. I think I need to go back to it. It's not my favourite thing but it does seem to have its benefits.

Zebracat · 15/03/2023 16:16

Ha. Weirdly every time I eat Greek yoghurt I am ravenous again within the hour. Raw carrot though, does the trick. What I wish I could figure out is when is it that resisting temptation will work, and when will I end up eating more of other stuff. I was so pleased not to buy an aero after swimming today but came home and had lunch, then greek yoghurt, then fruit , then chocolate biscuits. Oh dear.

poorpaws · 15/03/2023 20:02

Hi @Justkoko and welcome. Porridge is my definite appetite suppressant and keeps me fuller for longer. I have tried all sorts of breakfasts (toast, overnight oats, cereals etc) but by 10 am I am so hungry unless I have porridge with one spoon of sugar over the top. I sometimes have it for supper too if I've had a small evening meal.

How are you all doing? After boost week it seems really quiet here.

I'm doing ok, not nearly so many steps as last week but still over 10,000. Food is ok-ish. I have a meal out tomorrow night, a carvery, so I'll try damage limitation if I can. It's been ages since I've had a meal out so I would really like to enjoy it without any guilt.

I was speaking to a dog owner I know today, he's lost a stone in a month! Makes my attempted loss look really feeble.

Keep on keeping on everyone, it's getting ever closer to Easter.

TalkToTheHand123 · 16/03/2023 00:06

I usually grab and eat a banana before I leave the house on a morning if I can't resist food. Last couple of nights a slow 20 min walk on the treadmil and some little dumbells. Makes me have a good sleep and helps lose a bit of bloat. Lots of soup. Not weighed for a few days but feel on track slowly.

A combination of a lot of soup (carrot, sweetcorn and pea), walking (mainly shopping) and a bit more sleep seems to be doing the trick at the moment. Feeling a bit lighter. A bit of stretching too.
