New (school) year resolutions

I've gradually been gaining weight over the last couple of years and am now 2 stone overweight. The school holidays have been horrific foodwise. A lot of ice creams, hotdogs or pasties at zoos and theme parks, fish and chips by the beach. It's been a lot and I need to sort myself out.

I'm going to make a big effort to improve my diet, massively decrease the amount of junk and get more active.

Anyone else starting afresh?

Me! I've just started a thread based on leading a healthier lifestyle rather than focusing on just food and calories. The lack of school runs over the summer has given me a few extra pounds around my middle. Back to it tomorrow and looking forward to getting back to the routine but I want to be healthier overall, mentally and physically.

FaultybutFabulous · 04/09/2022 22:34

Here's the thread link.

Oh me. I also have 2 stone to lose, lockdown weight still here and a similar school holiday diet to yours!

Oysterbabe · 05/09/2022 11:02

Glad I'm not the only one! I've planned out a menu for today and have a healthy tesco shop arriving. I need to spend some time looking through my many recipe books to try and snap out of the food rut I've ended up in.

Me too!
Since covid and again school holiday bad eating/drinking too much I have two stone to lose. It's crept up quietly and I feel dreadful.

None of my clothes fit nicely but I'm refusing to buy a bigger size.

This morning I weighed myself and installed a weight tracking app. I am also going to start couch 2 5k this evening (which I am not looking forward to)

I have decided not to count calories, but to concentrate more on a better diet, try and massively reduce carbs, less booze and more exercise.

I'm hoping now I have written this on here it will keep me accountable.

Oysterbabe · 05/09/2022 15:42

Good luck goingslightlyinsane
I have the same issue with my clothes, they don't fit any more and I'm not buying bigger ones. I'm wearing a lot of loose dresses, which aren't that loose any more!

I'm usually fine Monday to Thursday but on Fridays it's like a switch flips and I'm like 'meh, it's Friday, why not have another breakfast'. And on it goes until Monday. Reigning my weekends in and getting moving will make the world of difference.

Thanks @Oysterbabe
I would prefer to run in the day but it's not going to be pretty so I am going to have to run at dusk so no one sees me! Blush

We sound very similar- I am also living in tents loose dresses. Need to get back into my jeans before winter sets in!!!

colouringindoors · 05/09/2022 16:54

Yes! I am also 2 stone overweight and really must shift it. I'm going to low carb as per bootcamp light but would really value some support. I can usually manage 3 weeks, loose a load, and then run out of steam. Am really hoping loosing this will help with my heat intolerance/sweatiness (peri....)

Oysterbabe · 05/09/2022 20:55

Hope you run went OK goingslightlyinsane

I have a feeling I might be peri too. I'm 42 and have plenty of symptoms, brain fog, aching joints.. But I wonder if part of it is just that I've been eating loads of shite and have put weight on. Losing it is the best way to find out!

FaultybutFabulous · 06/09/2022 08:06

So far so good. I'd like to lose a stone at least. It's all round my middle and uncomfortable.

colouringindoors · 06/09/2022 08:07

Ok checking in. Down a pound following a couple of days low carbing. Keep going...

Oysterbabe · 06/09/2022 09:57

Nice one colouring

Yesterday was good. Now to just repeat it everyday until I can finally die.

goingslightlyinsane · 06/09/2022 10:09

Hi everyone,

Great to hear everyone is feeling positive.
I feel like I'm slightly getting into the zone. I was so good yesterday, just have to keep doing it!

@Oysterbabe yes I did my run. I am so unfit, didn't want to do it but felt better for it and it has given me a sense of control I suppose.

I am going on holiday at October half term- so I think that's about 8 weeks. Obvs I won't lose 2 stone in that time but hopefully I can lose a good chunk of weight and it's good to have a goal.

goingslightlyinsane · 06/09/2022 10:10

@colouringindoors that's great. How low carb are you??? Just interested.

colouringindoors · 06/09/2022 11:50

@goingslightlyinsane I follow the rules on the Bootcamp thread - in each bootcamp they're linked to at the top. I don't calorie count or really carb count, no macro stuff.

First two weeks is strict.
No alcohol
No sweeteners
Protein and plenty of fat
Green veg mainly, salad, spinach avo

After that you can move to bootcamp light which includes a few berries, nuts, wider veg list in general.

Drinking LOADS of water is v impt.

It works for me and is motivating cos the first three weeks you do achieve a good loss, sticking with it for me is more of a challenge but I really Must loose this 2 stone...

FaultybutFabulous · 07/09/2022 08:21

Low carbing always sounds very depressing to me but I'm veggie and it would be very difficult to do because don't eat eggs either. I stick to calorie counting and smaller potions in general along with intermittent fasting . I find it relatively easy long term.

colouringindoors · 07/09/2022 09:34

Yeah I think it would be much more challenging as a veggie esp without eggs.

I have a very sweet tooth which can get out of hand so once I'm over the first week I don't miss sugar too much. My blood sugar is stable, no more post meal slumps. I'm not bloated at all and the first three weeks are very motivating. I also feel like I'm eating more nutrition as am not filling up with bread/rice/pots, rather protein and fat (which keep you fuller for longer) and I def eat more green veg with this way of eating. But I find to hard to stick to any regime on my own tbh.

FaultybutFabulous · 07/09/2022 10:12

I get bored and/or obsessed easily (autism and inattentive adhd) and flit from one thing to another regularly. I have acceptable foods and will eat them for weeks then change. I try to find something that is sustainable long term for me. It's difficult.

Oysterbabe · 07/09/2022 10:40

I have done low carb for quite extended periods, although it worked, I didn't really like it so couldn't sustain it. I always felt a bit empty and unsatisfied, however much of the allowed foods I ate, and it killed my love of eggs and cheese. Apparently I only really love these things when combined with bread 😄I also found it really difficult to eat enough fibre when I couldn't have wholegrains and limited pulses. I ended up constipated. I probably could have found ways around it.

I've also done 5:2 and OMAD. I think I had the most success when I did OMAD and was walking to and from the office each day. I find it virtually impossible to stick to now I work from home and I'm much less active. Calorie counting for me for now I think.

Day 3 and so far so good. I had a protein yoghurt and banana for breakfast. I feel a bit hungry now but I'm going to have a coffee and some water and try and hold out for a jacket potato, beans and salad for lunch.

colouringindoors · 08/09/2022 12:05

Another pound down. Treated myself to some m and s deli bits for lunch.

goingslightlyinsane · 08/09/2022 22:16

Well done everyone.. sounds like your all doing great.
I am going to weigh myself tomorrow and will update...
(Did my second run and then got pissed on by the rain yesterday... hateful)

@colouringindoors thanks for the low carb /boot camp info... sounds good and I reckon I could do it. But booze is my problem. I will deffo drink wine tomorrow and Saturday!...

Have great weekends everyone.

goingslightlyinsane · 08/09/2022 22:17

P.s- I haven't eaten bread since Sunday! Must be a world record!

Oysterbabe · 08/09/2022 23:01

Well done Ladies!
I'm going to weigh tomorrow too. I haven't in a couple of weeks and had a holiday in between, I'm not expecting good things. Still I've been going great since Monday, which is my longest spell of eating well in quite some time.

OP posts:
Oysterbabe · 09/09/2022 10:41

12st 4 this morning, which is the same as I was before my recent holiday, so I'm fine with that.
I need to be under 10st 6 to be in my healthy weight range. I know that my clothes will fit properly and I'll feel comfortable once I get to about 11st 2ish. I'm going to concentrate on losing a stone and then go from there.

OP posts:
FaultybutFabulous · 09/09/2022 10:45

Morning all and well done to everyone. I'm weighing tomorrow morning and resisting snacking. I am hungry though. I'm walking 10 miles a day and I am sticking to my calorie allowance with 3 meals a day and not eating junk.
