I know, but if it was easy you wouldn't have had to go to LL in the first place. You do things that are difficult all the time, maybe it's just that you don't believe that you can eat healthily, but I believe that you can. In some ways food problems are much more difficult to deal with than smoking or drinking because you can give up smoking or drinking completely, but you can't give up food.

I have problems with 'just a little bit' which is why I gave up chocolate completely when I started WW. Perhaps, given how successful you were with LL, you would prefer to have a list of foods that you will not eat at all (eg sweets, crisps, biscuits, white bread) rather than a sliding scale of eating less unhealthy food and more healthy food.

woodpops · 31/01/2005 13:50

I have deffinately got to steer clear of cheese, potato and bread. As you can tell I'm savory as opposed to sweet!

bran · 31/01/2005 14:08

Cheese is bad - I've given it up because it's so high in WW points. I only have it at dinner parties now because if I start nibbling it I'll just finish the whole piece. Potatoes are possible to give up too, just have an extra helping of veg instead. Bread is a bit trickier because it's such a staple in European culture, but you could limit they type that you will eat, so only stoneground wholemeal (lowest GI) or German/Scandinavian style, heavy, rye bread, or Ryvita.

Start practising now for when people offer you stuff so that you sound convincing "No cheese for me thanks, I'm not really that keen on it".

woodpops · 31/01/2005 14:18

I could easily demolish and huge block of cheese. You're right bran I'm going to have to steer clear.

Hello everyone! Need to read through properly as been away for a few days but have just done my weigh in. It is the first time in 1 and a half weeks or therabouts but I've lost nearly 7lbs! So not too bad, especially considering I've been home to my mums, who is a wonderful, really wonderful, cook. She has successfully stuffed me with two portions of apple crumble and two lovely slices of orange and carrot cake! Also had lunch out last week, oh and the worst of the worst, a mcdonalds In my defence it was nine at night, not had any supper and I'd been travelling on the train since four, and not much food at home. Hopefully the weight loss will give me to impetous (Sp?) to be better next time.

Flossam · 31/01/2005 17:06

Woodpops, hope you're feeling better. Can I just ask, what does LL stand for? sorry! Also, another bread I have found that I feel quite happy to eat is called Burgens I think. It is a soya and linseed bread, soya is known to be good for you, and is obviously dairy free, and linseeds are excellant too, and they help to keep you regular which may help you loose a few pounds . Couldn't eat them on their own but in the bread they are fine. It is a very light bread, I'll go and see quickly how many calories...

Flossam · 31/01/2005 17:07

111 calories, and is a low GI food, got to go, baby crying...

monkeygirl · 31/01/2005 18:02

I can't believe you are all talking about cheese, did you have a camera trained on me this weekend and see me eating several huge blocks of the stuff . Yes fell off the wagon and rolled for miles having demolished said cheese, gallons of wine, trays of choc but not the bloody cake I was worried about (it wasn't chocolate, damn them). Anyway have put on 2 lbs, but am not too upset surprisingly as it's my TOTM which usually acounts for a pound of 2 extra anyway. I'm back on the GI way now!

Woodpops - it must be hard to adjust yourself to 'RL' eating after years of bad habits and all those months of abstinence, so don't be too hard on yourself. I second the GI diet which (when I'm on it!) is fab!

Flossam - can't believe you ate cakes, crumble and a Macs and still lost all that weight - well done .

How's everyone else - did you all have good w/ends?

Evesmama · 31/01/2005 20:43

hey monkeygirl glad you had good time and enjoyed yourself(shame about the lack of choccy cake tho)
i lost another 1lb, so 1/2 stone in 3 weeks..am chuffed with that as i havent really been 'dieting', just havent had choc and the hundreds of takeaways im used too

PuffTheMagicDragon · 31/01/2005 23:55

Well done Flossam and Evesmama

Evesmama · 01/02/2005 09:19

thanks

monkeygirl · 01/02/2005 10:15

Evesmama - well done! It's always nice to get that first pesky half a stone out of the way.

PuffTheMagicDragon · 01/02/2005 10:38

Lost 2lbs this week

monkeygirl · 01/02/2005 10:44

Puff - well done! Been meaning to ask you, you've lost loads of weight on the GI now haven't you - what's your 'average' weight loss then per week then?? Just curious about the whole GI thing still...

Ps Is it possible that we could have a new thread soon pretty please - I'm finding this one now takes ages to load?

PuffTheMagicDragon · 01/02/2005 10:49

monkeygirl, I think my average weight loss is probably 2 1/2 lbs a week. The thing that's been different for me, is I'm finding this much easier to stick to as a long term project than other diets I've tried. Ther are some weeks where I've stayed the same (been out for a meal, or just over-indulged), but I don't find it hard to get back on track with GI.

PuffTheMagicDragon · 01/02/2005 10:51

I'm going to set up a new thread now.

woodpops · 01/02/2005 10:54

Do you feel like you're being deprived of anything puff???

PuffTheMagicDragon · 01/02/2005 11:01

woodpops - not really - a treat I allow myself is 3 or 4 chewy toffees a day - not on the GI diet, but they are sweet and take a long time to eat, so satisfy a need for something naughty to eat.

If I want something in between meals, then I have a few grapes, or some other fruit.

Someone posted a tip about hummus on here, which was to mix it with low fat fromage frais - what a revelation - it tastes really good and makes 3 times the amount of dip - a lovely snack with crudites.

handlemecarefully · 02/02/2005 09:29

I've been on a 'diet holiday' for the last fortnight and not been on here.

Basically whole family has been ill one after the other with flu and then gastronenteritis (baby ds was admitted to hospital due to dehydration), and dh developed pneumonia!!! So, as you can imagine I couldn't be arsed to eat healthily and in fact may have ummm.... overindulged to console myself.

Anyway we are all fighting fit again, so I am now back on the straight and narrow. Don't appear to have done too much damage weight wise - just gained half a pound.

woodpops · 02/02/2005 09:33

HMC, OMG no wonder you've been on a diet holiday, IO expect you could do with a real holiday now. Glad everyone's now fighting fit. We've now moved as well we're on support for the long term slimmer (3) now. See you there
