bunny2 · 27/01/2005 20:21

Hi everyone, glad to see so much motivation and willpower here. I have fallen off the wagon Im aftraid - have been having a couple of glasses of wine most nights - the novelty of teetotalling wore off very quickly and I am back to enjoying in moderation. BUT I am still off chocolate, cakes and biscuits so pleased about that.

Evesmama · 27/01/2005 20:40

well done Bunny2, you have to be allowed 'some' normal treats and i think the odd relaxing glass of wine is reasonable,...you're still off the bad stuff tho!

essbee - I have been making huge veggie bean chillies - they are really nice when it is so cold outside and a good way to be low-fat and filling aswell as getting close to your daily 5 vegetable/fruit servings. AND they are quick, freeze well and if you make loads, can keep in the fridge for several days.

PuffTheMagicDragon · 27/01/2005 20:47

I agree Essbee, I still dream of beef stew with dumplings!

Evesmama---- Well done once you give it up for a while the cravings go right away!! I think maybe I know where your sweet tooth is!! I have itthis baby seems to want sweet stuff. The upshot is that the only drink I can take is water!!

bunny2---- dont be so hard on your self, you haven't fallen of the wagon, by your own admision you have kept up the other stuff so just add the wine to your daily quota.

esbee and puff--- have you tried tesco healthy range of casseroles? there are dumplins in them and taste lovely.

Hi all - isn't everyone doing well? I'm so impressed with everyone resisting their cravings.

Essbee - make meals with chili to cheer you up in this winter gloom. I love dahl, especially made with red lentils. Or lentil soup is really easy to make, gently fry onions, bacon, garlic and chili, then add lentils and water/stock and boil until cooked. Or just buy some chili sauce and have it with whatever you fancy, omelette, roast chicken or anything really. It really gets you heated up.

I don't really have anything to tell you - which I think means everything's going well. I made my muffin recipe with fructose and a little molasses instead of sugar and I think it tasted just as good. I'm getting better at following the GI principle within WW (I think). I still miss my Christmas blow out though, but the memory is fading now that I'm properly back in my routine.

Evesmama · 29/01/2005 00:06

thanks champs poured myself a glass of blue wkd tonight and couldnt drinkl it, cos its too sweet!!!, also find raisins too sweet now too, thought id picked some up with added sugar or something

Evesmama · 29/01/2005 20:30

hope everyones being 'good' tonight or at least making sure they have a bloody good time if they're not

bran · 30/01/2005 15:11

Evesmama, I wasn't good, but I did have a bloody great time last night . I think my food stayed within my ww points, but I'm very sure the drink didn't. I'm not sure exactly how much I drank as I lost count, but this morning we counted the empty bottles and between 8 of us (2 of whom left quite early) we drank: 2 bottles of champagne; 9 bottles of wine; 1 bottle of port. and

Still as the dishwasher is broken the vast mountain of washing-up waiting to be tackled will at least burn off a few calories.

Evesmama · 30/01/2005 20:42

well i did say be good or have good time so you did as i asked, so you blame me..say you felt obliged to carry out my request
ive had a sossy and fried egg sarnie today(after feeling fit going swimming)...bit fed up really as my scales still show a 1lb on and other than today, ive been angelic?????????????????????

PuffTheMagicDragon · 30/01/2005 20:46

Sound like a great night bran .

PuffTheMagicDragon · 31/01/2005 11:28

Now here's a conundrum - I weighed myself this morning (naughty as it should be tomorrow). Then I had a shower and weighed myself again. After the shower I was 2.5 lbs lighter than before! I bath and shower regularly btw so it ain't dirt !

bran · 31/01/2005 11:30

Do you pee in the shower? (snigger)

woodpops · 31/01/2005 11:57

Help me quick. I'm starting to struggle with LL now. Right I did the 14 weeks of abstenance, lost 70½lb and am now introducing food back into my diet. The only problem being .......... I keep picking, but picking at cr@p. Then when I've eaten I feel really guilty that I've eaten and start beating myself up about it. I even tried making myself sick last night I felt that guilty . What's wrong with me???

bran · 31/01/2005 12:10

Don't panic Woodpops - it was bound to be difficult to re-adjust to proper eating. Things probably aren't as bad as they appear, for a start you know that you have incredible will-power to have come this far.

Like you I have problems with grazing and although I know the right food choices, if I didn't stop myself I would be eating the good things and then having the bad things as well.

There are a few techniques to cope with this, you could try writing everything down before it goes in your mouth, sometimes just going to find the pen and the journal makes you realise that you don't really want it. Even if you still eat it you can look back at the journal at the end of a week and figure out when your weak times of day are.

Another way would be to plan you entire day's food either in the morning or a day or two before - meals and snacks, and not eat anything else. You already know that you can do this because it's similar to LL, you can't do it forever but it would get you through this rough patch and used to eating again.

Keep posting - we'll keep you in line .

bran · 31/01/2005 12:13

Also have you had a look at the GI diet Woodpops? I've been trying to follow it within the WW points framework, and it's really good for controlling physical cravings and hunger. Probably doesn't have as much effect on emotional cravings, but if your body isn't calling out for fat or sugar then it will definitely make controlling emotional eating much, much easier.

woodpops · 31/01/2005 12:26

Thank you Bran. I've never looked at the GI diet but have been considering WW as my form of maintenance.

bran · 31/01/2005 12:34

There's a GI thread here which is very useful. I bought the Tesco's GI book (also available from Amazon ) which is a really good introduction to the idea.

Weight Watchers is good, but they won't take you unless you have at least 10 lbs to loose, and obviously it does cost money every week.

woodpops · 31/01/2005 12:43

That's the trouble with WW, they won't take me!!!!! That's nice being able to say that!!!! The money isn't an issue. Especially as LL cost £45 a week so spending a fiver is nothing compared to what I have been spending!!!

bran · 31/01/2005 13:27

Oooooh, I wish I was in that position, only another year or so to go at the current rate . If you really wanted to go to WW then you could always tell them that you still want to lose 10 lbs, but it's still only an interim measure because it would be better for you to find a way of eating that you can keep up for the rest of your life. I think GI provides quite a good basis for healthy eating and it would be easy to stick to the principles of it indefinitely as it's very yummy.

Worst come to worst if you can't find an eating plan that you can stick to you will put on 10 lbs and be genuinely allowed to join WW. Either way don't be annoyed with yourself for eating bad things, if can't stop yourself eating them anyway you might as well enjoy them.

woodpops · 31/01/2005 13:32

This is harder than the total abstenance. At least when I was on that I knew I couldn't touch ANY food!!!!
