Apologies if it has been mentioned before but after years of trying every diet known to humankind and not getting anywhere with them I came across Gin Stephen's book - 'Fast, Feast, Repeat'. I never thought I could intermittent fast, but everything she said in the book resonated with me, and after 2 months, I have lost 3 inches from my waist and my energy and mood is so much better. I don't weigh but I have gone down a dress size. I know it's early days but for me it's been the easiest way of eating and living. The first month has it's ups and downs as you adjust...clean fasting meant I had to shift to black coffee which I thought I would NEVER do, but now I'm addicted to espresso! Gin has a great podcast called Intermittent Fasting stories so anyone interested could listen to those. There's quite a few with medics who intermittent fast which I found reassuring! I was hesitant to post this but as it honestly has made such a difference to my quality of life and given me the ability to step away from a dieting mindset I thought I would post here in case it helps someone else.

Checking in - weighed myself yesterday and my prediction was accurate - 12 stone 12 pounds. I really need to get to at least 11 stone to be comfortable.

I am also thinking about going for HRT - if that helps my ever expanding stomach I will be very happy. Has anyone had any success on losing weight with HRT?

Had a lovely fish and chips and bottle of prosecco at my Big Boozy Lunch yesterday. Then a two hour nap to stave off the effects.

Adult DD is coming for the weekend. Cons of this are that she has a very sweet tooth and will lead me astray. Pros are that she is the Alcohol Police Grin

anybloodyname · 07/07/2022 12:18

@poorpaws .. sending you a tonne of oomph
could you engineer a possible tragic accident on hilly slope with hose resulting in DP .. no forget I mentioned it

TalkToTheHand123 · 07/07/2022 12:30

@Dreams25 Hi. Glad it's working for you. I sometimes fast but I sometimes get a bit dizzy without something early morning to eat.

I managed to avoid a McDonald's today when out shopping but only as I couldn't remember where it was in the centre 😊

I usually like to treat myself with the odd one here and there but might try go cold turkey as so close to finally getting under 15 stone.

I had ideas of treating myself when hitting targets but I end up putting on about half a stone so thinking this may not be a good idea afterall.

I'm just going to try keep in on with the soup and salads and try keep away from the burgers, chips and sausages until I've lost at least a couple of stone or maybe totally cut it out all together as I don't miss the bloating.

H1Drangea · 07/07/2022 21:16

Haha ! @bluebeck my DD is coming home for the weekend ( not to see me , oh no … an old school friend is the first of the group to get engaged )
She needs Sunday roast ( on Friday ) chocolate cake and home made bread .. I’m doomed

bluebeck · 08/07/2022 11:25

I have only bought one pack of bakery cookies, no choc or cakes. I will try to get her to take anything left over.

We are off out tonight though but I have already scoped out the menu and chosen what I will eat. So much easier with the calories on the menu.

Keep going everyone!!

poorpaws · 08/07/2022 14:10

I've got a cold and I feel quite sorry for myself. Did half a dog walk and then went to visit DD so instead of doing exercise I sat outside drinking diet Coke but at least it was diet.

DP is still decorating his flat in this heat! I'm keeping away and leaving him to it. I'm still very cross with him and still looking for a place to bury his body.

I don't think anything will get done today, it's far too hot.

Hope everyone is enjoying the heat and keeping on track.

OP posts:
BeyondMyWits · 08/07/2022 16:03

Hiya all... it is hot here too @poorpaws .

We are all "on holiday" now, going to Center Parcs on Monday. Some of us are more on holiday than others. No one else notices when stuff needs doing, so I'm going mildly passive aggressively bonkers talking to myself whilst loudly loading the dishwasher, cleaning the loo and hanging out the washing.

Diet is going reasonably well now the cake has gone. I cut up a whole load of fruits for after lunch instead of breaking out the biscuits or chocolate. Cherries, strawberries, melon. When they are all washed and prepped it is so nice, and stops me from reaching for any other sweet stuff. Also gets the rest of them eating fruit instead of junk.( DH and Dd19 and Dd21 - all of whom are slender and elegant!)

ClinkeyMonkey · 09/07/2022 08:31

Hope everyone is doing better than me well. I had 'words' with DP when we got lost in a maze yesterday. Ironically it was the Peace Maze in Castlewellan Forest🤣 I know it's kind of the point to get lost, but it was hot and DS1 kept assuring us he knew where he was going (he did not) and striding ahead. Nobody was listening to poor DS2, who DID know where he was going and was brilliantly logical for a 9yo. DP was in panic mode that we would be worn out before we got to do anything else at the park. I made a remark that was supposed to be lighthearted, but sounded a bit rude. I apologised immediately, but we were all feeling grumpy by then. Never again I tell you. Never. It was not my idea of fun. So there was ice cream and various other treats to calm our nerves. I think I ate a week's worth of calories in a day and I feel absolutely awful this morning.

poorpaws · 09/07/2022 08:42

@ClinkeyMonkey aww I hate those mazes, I don't see the fun and I am very claustrophobic so I won't go near them now. As as far as a weeks worth of calories in one day goes, I've done that many times before. Don't stress about it because next week you can make up.

I've got up this morning feeling worse than ever with this cold. It's too hot to take the dogs out and I'm out of energy. I just want to eat my cold away but I don't really think that works does it? I'm still working on DPs demise.

Happy weekend everyone. I know the weekend is when most of us eat more and the diet seems to go to the back of our minds but do what you can!

OP posts:
ClinkeyMonkey · 09/07/2022 10:30

Sorry you're still feeling lousy with the cold @poorpaws. I had similar during the week and was sapped of energy. Hope you'll be feeling better soon. You need all your energy to dig that hole for your DP!!

BeyondMyWits · 09/07/2022 10:36

Morning all...
@poorpaws I don't eat as much when it is hot, so the weather is helping. Hope your cold improves. I work in a pharmacy and the boss always says plenty of water and plenty of steam. Seems to ease the symptoms.
@ClinkeyMonkey ... we are going to Longleat on Friday. Traditionally the "kids" -19 and 21- arggghhh, will be 20 and 21.... go into the maze with DH and I sit with a cold drink and wait for them... I'm not keen on the endless slog...

BeyondMyWits · 09/07/2022 16:50

Having a bbq tonight. I've made some veggie kebabs, and some with chicken... so the others can have burgers and sausage and I'll have a go at "healthier". Big salad, coleslaw and tomato salsa to go alongside, so should keep me on the wagon before our holiday.

ClinkeyMonkey · 09/07/2022 19:22

@BeyondMyWits You've got the right idea. That'll be my plan next time😃

poorpaws · 10/07/2022 08:54

Morning all

I've got nothing much to report on this lovely sunny morning. The food is going quite well, the exercise is not quite so good because it's too hot.

DP turned up last night to water the top of the garden and I was soooo tempted to wrap the hose around his neck and pull very tightly. He doesn't know when the flat will be done, he's already done .. blah blah blah. He just can't see that we would usually be out in the sunshine enjoying the summer. The tourists will be here soon and BEFORE they come is our time 😡

I might just sit on the garden all day! I do get bored though and it's not good for my July challenge to just sit all day.

Talking of July, how are you all doing so far? I'd love us ALL to meet our goals.

Have a happy, healthy, sunny Sunday.

OP posts:
VioletPickles · 10/07/2022 08:57

Can I join? July goal is about 7lbs off. Keep seeing these fitness app adverts come up on my phone too, but don’t really want to subscribe. Anyone seen and my good free ones? The type where you have to do a work out (low impact/strength) per day??

TalkToTheHand123 · 10/07/2022 10:01

Kicking myself a bit as doing a 12 hour shift today I volunteered to do a few days ago. Brought in enough tubs of homemade soup to keep me going and managed to decline left over takeaway food so diet wise going ok touch wood.

Mumstheword2022 · 10/07/2022 10:50

Hey, been off it all been literally. Not been in here, MFP, gym or keeping up the steps because I’ve felt so rotten. Took Monday off but barely moved all day and have struggled through all week with little or no sleep! we’ve had so much on at work including mock exams, meeting our new year sevens, covering each other’s illnesses and trying to keep our students motivated for these last few weeks. Tested every day and not covid but I’m surprised.
I have also been inexplicably staving all the time and have eaten more than ever. Lost a few pounds at the beginning but haven’t weighed in yet

anyway, feel marginally better today so am resetting and plan to gym, count food , steps and check in here starting with a weigh in first thing Monday.

have had a quick scan through and we have lots of traffic on this thread which is mint.

We let’s sort this 😀

poorpaws · 05/07/2022 17:39

@TalkToTheHand123 I've read your post just before going out for a carvery meal. Do you think it might help me be sensible?

Aww I love a carvery. I'm drooling now thinking about one. I haven't had a Sunday dinner for a while either. I may need to treat myself. I'll have to go for the smaller plate if it's a carvery as I can hardly move following a regular plate.

I'm just trying to focus on these homemade soups for now to settle the tummy as a bit of a detox and review in a few weeks.

poorpaws · 10/07/2022 12:50

I've just done a dog walk and met two separate people (both quite slim) who said they can't eat in this heat! What the hell is all that about? I can eat in any weather, hot, cold, windy, snowing. Okay so the food might change from warm comforting soup in winter or fruits and salad in summer but I can always eat, always! No wonder these people are slim if a bit of hot weather can stop them eating, I just don't get it.

As I passed her house on the return journey of the dog walk my neighbour came running out with two iced small cakes and two plain scones. She knows I'm on a diet but she said it wouldn't hurt! That isn't going to help my July challenge at all. I might have to just pass them on to DP. I wonder if I could poison them, mmmm weed Killer?

Can't answer your question sadly @VioletPickles, but you are definitely welcome here😊 It's a very friendly, supportive group.

poorpaws · 10/07/2022 12:53

@VioletPickles welcome. I can't answer your question either I'm afraid but welcome to our very friendly supportive thread.

@Mumstheword2022 I hope you recover very quickly. You can catch up when you feel better.

OP posts:
ClinkeyMonkey · 10/07/2022 12:57

🤣🤣 Who are these people whose appetite changes according to the weather @poorpaws? I'm the same as you. No weather - none - will change how much I want to eat or how much I am capable of eating. Only the temperature of the food changes.

poorpaws · 10/07/2022 12:57

@Mumstheword2022 I also wanted to say, yes there is a lot of traffic and a lot of people joining us but have you noticed they don't stay. They post once, we welcome them and tell them how lovely we are 😀 and we don't hear from them again. I don't know why, are we frightening?
