Good morning everyone,

Blimey it's freezing here this morning. I hope you are all managing to stay warm and healthy.

I'm muddling along as normal, trying my best, but not often winning. I'm still doing well all day, breakfast is healthy, lunch is healthy, but it's about 3 to 4 hours in the evening where I think I just eat for the sake of it. I tell myself I'm hungry but I'm not, I just want snacks I really like and I eat more when I'm cold. I think I'll just go with the flow until the New Year, try damage limitation as much as I can but at least giving myself a bit of a break.

I hope you are all okay and doing as well as you can. I'm getting quite stressed about Christmas, I'm usually way ahead and have all presents wrapped by November but this year I'm way behind with DPs presents because he is so difficult to buy for.

@TalkToTheHand123
Keep up the good work, you are doing so well.

@Theredjellybean
I hope you are coping, it must be so difficult for all of you. I also hope dsd's relapse is short lived.

Keep plodding on everyone. It's such a difficult time for people trying to lose weight.

Aww @poorpaws I keep checking the cupboards for snack but haven't had any in for months😂.

I needn't have been worried about being bunged up last night, not sure if it was just a case of waiting or because I got an early night or doing tummy clenches in bed.

I'm thinking of stopping eating cheesecake for the sugar. From what I read, the sugar unsettles the tummy (as well as not being good for dieting). I really like my cheesecake though so if there are less sugary ones, I'll be all over it 🤭.

Have plenty fish in so will start to use up and have this as a main part of my diet.

poorpaws · 10/12/2022 08:39

Good morning lovelies

Yesterday I received a text and I've got my medication at last. Then I opened the post and I've got my hospital tests on Monday afternoon (short notice possibly due to the postal strike). Guess I shouldn't have celebrated with chocolate 😩

I hope you are all doing well and have got Christmas under control. I still haven't sorted DPs presents but other than him, it's done.

Happy weekend everyone.

So glad you've got some meds at last @poorpaws, hope they help and they get the balance right (you can feel a bit zombie like until they do). Good luck with the tests.

Zebracat · 10/12/2022 12:19

@poorpaws at last, pleased something is happening for you. I’m soldiering on here, not snacking and making good choices most of the time, still trying to get back to the weight I was before Tuesdays 3 course meal. Eating a lot of veg!
someone bought butter though. It’s a slippery slope…

effiesgoldwig · 10/12/2022 17:41

I have a baby with a vomiting bug today and have resorted to McDonald's for me and the other kids for tea. Saturday nights are just a write of for me every week. I need to do something to break the cycle. Weight is still managing to go down because I'm sticking to it the rest of the week.

Glad your still doing what you can @poorpaws

Hope your meds help you feel better.

TalkToTheHand123 · 10/12/2022 18:11

Aww @effiesgoldwig , do you pick up for McDonald's or get delivered?

It's so easy to succumb on a weekend (she says as has alcohol ready to dive into soon😯).

effiesgoldwig · 10/12/2022 18:33

I had it delivered as DH is out on his works Christmas do and I didn't want to take baby out whilst she was poorly.

TalkToTheHand123 · 11/12/2022 09:31

Aww of course ☺️,

I pine for a McDonald's, but trying to avoid now as I just want another straight after 😯.

It's quite a helpful mindset to have though (usually).

My targets now are just for continued better habits overall. The rest should just fall into place?

effiesgoldwig · 12/12/2022 10:09

Well something went right this week! I hit 17st0 today which is an 11 pound loss since 1st November and 1st10 since 2020. It's not the fastest loss ever known but it is going in the right direction and I'm looking forward to seeing 16st something next week! Still a mountain to climb but at least I'm on the right path.

BeyondMyWits · 12/12/2022 11:19

WTG @effiesgoldwig , that's brilliant news... soooooooo close to being able to say 16st something. I know that feeling well! (And the slow steady slog... though yours is speeding up!)

I lost half a pound this week... still going the right direction. 15st3lb.

Good luck all who are Monday weighing.

Zebracat · 12/12/2022 12:37

97.9 this morning, so a tiny gain. I don’t mind, I know I’m mainly doing ok. Well done to the other Monday weighers. Off out to lunch now. Hard to choose the salad in the snow!, I might just not!

BeyondMyWits · 12/12/2022 12:57

Oh god @Zebracat I don't choose salad when it's not snowy!

I'm having veg soup with a crusty roll. Will fill me up and warm me through... and satisfy the "savoury" craving that often gets filled with waaaaaaay too many crisps.

Zebracat · 12/12/2022 15:50

Must just tell you all that I had the sea bass with grilled tomatoes, left the slightly Al dente boiled potatoes and the huge bowl of chips my friend bought “to share”. They both had 2 courses. Did eat the biscotti that came with the coffee though.

TalkToTheHand123 · 13/12/2022 13:46

@Zebracat you got me wanting to eat my fish this morning, but after a tidy up and a bowl of sweet potatoe, it's floored me 😂 so will have to have it later!

Made some overnight oats last night and thinking there will be a few calories to take considerable note of, but for now, I'll just enjoy the taste 😊

Have some food to use up before I'm back on the soup.

BeyondMyWits · 14/12/2022 16:51

Hiya all, just felt the need to check in... stops me eating... how is everyone doing in the cold? We have snow on the ground still... absolutely treacherous for walking, so lots of snuggles with the dog on the sofa. Just don't feel like doing anything, so it is work, eat, sleep, repeat... at the moment.

TalkToTheHand123 · 14/12/2022 18:21

Put on a couple of lbs 😔 so going to try do a bit better with food purchases and diet.

effiesgoldwig · 14/12/2022 20:10

Stick with it @TalkToTheHand123 you'll get there. I caught my DDs d&v so didn't eat anything for 24 hours. Would not recommend. Spent today eating salty crisps and anything that appealed but will get back on it tomorrow.

Zebracat · 14/12/2022 21:32

It is hard to eat less in the cold. I feel like I’ve stuck to my plan, but the weight is staying the same. It’s making me a bit gloomy. And I’m bound to put a bit back on over Christmas, so it feels a bit pointless.
We have an issue in the family and it has really messed with my sleep. I know there is research that disrupted sleep leads to weight gain, so maybe it’s that.
I'm going to take control of the problem, can’t let this thing derail me again.

poorpaws · 14/12/2022 21:43

Hi everyone

It all gone wrong here, all wrong. I'm permanently so cold and this depresses me so I eat, over and over and over. So depressed about it all but can't find the pause button.

In other news the hospital appointment went very well. My blood pressure is way down now and they seemed happy with me. I was exceptionally calm and it showed apparently. I'm expecting good results,

I think my diet is on hold now and I haven't weighed. I'll keep checking in here but I'm not expecting any weight loss. I am still very interested in how everyone else is doing and well done to all of you.

OP posts:
triplecheeese · 15/12/2022 20:19

@Zebracat i am sure sleep disruption and worrying slowed my weight loss right down earlier this year. Once the issues started resolving (or at least I calmed down about them) in august, my weight started to budge. Definitely something in the stress hormone cortisol meaning your body holds on to its resources, slowing any fat burning and making you crave sugar.

@poorpaws im so happy to hear about the appointment. Proud of you!

I know I've put a few lbs back on which is so annoying when I reached goal! But I'm not weighing, just accepting the diet and exercise chaos for now and planning my strategies for the Xmas hols. I always found that it helps to start good habits a bit before Jan, so i feel like i've got a head start! Going to aim for a bit of exercise and get healthy food in between the Christmas feasting and see what the damage is on 3 Jan.

triplecheeese · 15/12/2022 20:21

I remembered something I read somewhere as I was shovelling down yesterdays leftover Chinese takeaway because "it shouldn't go to waste". Someone said eating food you don't want to eat IS wasting food. As someone who always had it drummed into me to clear my plate, that blew my mind...

thought someone here might like it!

effiesgoldwig · 15/12/2022 20:40

That has actually really helped me @triplecheeese ! I have never thought of it like that before! That is such an important way to look at it. I was certainly brought up to clear my plate. I have memories of sitting chewing on a piece of pork chop that had gone so dry I couldn't bring myself to swallow it but you had to eat or it was wasteful.

It was never in a mean way, it came from a place of love and a family with various circumstances which meant there was never much spare money so food genuinely couldn't be wasted but the expectation was there.

I try and remind my children to think about if they are actually hungry when they ask for a snack and don't force them to finish their meal if they say they're full but I certainly have that mindset because when they're done with the food the magpie inside me goes and picks out the good bits off their plates for myself before throwing it in the bin.

But you are so right. I didn't need that food. I didn't want it. I just didn't want to throw it away.

TalkToTheHand123 · 15/12/2022 23:27

I never needed to be told to clear my plate 🐷.

I'm taking ready meals off the shopping list and replacing with more fish. Hoping this will get me back on track.

Zebracat · 17/12/2022 00:11

We had Chines takeaway and I mainly ate mixed veg with black bean sauce. And I liked it!. I won’t mention the crispy duck pancakes.
