@poorpaws ... well done!! A nice turnaround...

and I always forget the refresh too, so I also skipped past all the updates... not ignoring people honest😳

CanadianJohn · 04/07/2022 15:43

Found you! Thanks for the new fred, @poorpaws

I was about the same at my weekly weigh-in, somewhat surprising, because I ate mostly pastries yesterday. I can hardly walk at all, maybe half a block. I totter to the street corner and back about four times a day.

Unfortunately, I swim like a rock (2 years of lessons as a child, after which they gave me a "guppy certificate" and suggested that maybe I should stay on dry land).

I was chatting to a friend at the library, he is a few years older than me, I think he is 84. He has a huge belly ... he says, and I believe him, that he doesn't eat that much, but is really inactive. Yup, me too, even walking around the house I lean on furniture and counters, and sit down to do almost everything.

I think I am doomed to be a fat old guy.

poorpaws · 04/07/2022 17:15

@CanadianJohn pleased you found us. Your post made me sad, you are walking as much as you can, you do get out, they are positives; the pasties not so much 😀

Keep trying like we all are, it's all we can do and any tiny loss is a move in the right direction. We all struggle with our weight, that's why we're here. I envy people like my DP who can eat loads and don't put a single pound on. I swear if I ate like him I'd be over 20 st, it's just not fair. Look after yourself.

I was 71.9 today.
Happy with that.
I've lost another 0.5 cm round my waist and 1cm round hips and chest.
Best of all got up and did weights rehab session this morning.
Been not such good day food wise, but never mind.
My goal is 70 kg by end og July plus starting running rehab first of August... Got to be stronger and mostly pain-free physio says

Fatasbuggery · 04/07/2022 20:04

Day 1 is nearly done and I am counting it as a success.

Lots more water
Only fruit as a snack
Only one slice of bread all day ( I could easily do toast x2 for breakfast, sandwich for lunch and garlic bread with dinner so this feels huge for me.

I might go to bed soon to stop me eating snacks 😁

Theredjellybean · 04/07/2022 21:54

Well done on bread reduction.
I'm an advocate of no snacks, it's just habit, make new ones... I always go for a bath if I feel a "I'm. Bored what shall I eat" moment coming on me
Hot bath, pj's into bed with a book...

Theredjellybean · 04/07/2022 22:00

@CanadianJohn you are doing so much more than you think.
Your joining in here
Your walking four times a day to the corner
You interacting with the old guy
You could be sitting on the sofa mindlessly eating in those moments but you are choosing not to...
So take that and remind yourself... If you can do that you can do it... How about just one extra step each totter /walk...? Literally walk another metre each time or look at the ground, pick a mark, a stone, a drain, whatever and walk to that.... The next day pick a new mark.
I honestly went from swearing I wouldn't run to save my life, to running a half marathon training like that... Every run I just told myself to just run to the next puddle /tuft of grass or whatever..
It slowly build up...
Every so single darn step counts.. You can do this

Oh my days ! I read this and then went searching to see who had had a breast reduction

Was thinking oh I wonder how much weight that would take off .. then I realised it was bread

Tokyo89 · 05/07/2022 05:44

Hello Everyone 👋

You seem like a friendly bunch!
I had a baby 7 months ago and because of a number of (mostly unfortunate) factors I was 6kg below my pre-pregnancy weight only two weeks after giving birth. And even though I had a difficult birth and 10 weeks of PPD… I looked fabulous 🤦🏻‍♀️However I’ve put 3.5kg back on through snacking. I’ve always been a grazer but I find myself reaching for sugar and white carbs for that ‘instant gratification’ hit; especially now that I don’t have as much time to do the things that I used to enjoy (Pilates classes, long walks, sewing etc). Food has become a stand in for everything I used to enjoy.

Anyways - the July mini-goal sounds like something to get on board with. I’d like to reach 63kg (~2kg) by the end of July by cutting out refined sugar snacks and doing 3x workouts a week (even just 20minutes a time).

Read through the this thread but will go back and find the first one to see everyone’s stories!

Theredjellybean · 05/07/2022 06:24

@anybloodyname ...thats funny
I did have a breast reduction about 25 yrs ago... Took 1.2kgs of each... It was fantastic

Vebrithien · 05/07/2022 07:04

Morning,
I'd like to join in please!

I'm a serial weight boomerang-er, but have been trying hard to get on top of the reasons why.

2 years post (very traumatic) pregnancy and premature baby. 4 miscarriages, sexual assaults when I was young and thin. CBT following PTSD from DS's birth and I've started unpicking it.

I'm currently 100.5 kg, and this is the lightest I've been in 3 years. I was 111 kg at my heaviest.

I''ve lost 3.3 kg in a month, using the NHS app.

My target for July is to lose 3 kg, and my next major target is to get to 92 kg, as then I will be merely overweight.

I'm reducing my bread, alcohol and general portion sizes + walking more.

Phew, glad to get that off my chest!

poorpaws · 05/07/2022 08:17

Good morning everyone, it's a lovely sunny morning here, I hope it is where you are.

@Tokyo89 and @Vebrithien welcome to you both. I hope you enjoy this thread and it helps you. We are very friendly, no shaming here, just support.

@anybloodyname you made me laugh. It's no good me having a breast reduction because I've hardly got any. A massive stomach reduction would be amazing and make me look and feel better but alas I have to try to reduce it myself.

I'm DP-free today which is very rare. He's decorating his flat right through because he's ordered new flooring throughout. I'm going to make the most of it and enjoy my solitude (without snacking 🤞🏻).

I've planned a long, lone dog walk, a tidy up of the kitchen and if the sun stays out I'm going to sit in the garden.

I have a great fear of frogs (so much so that years ago I took a lovely pond out of the garden because it attracted them). The covered chairs is one frogs home and before we go there DP has to remove it. If it's there today I'll not be sitting in the garden. Looks like I might be sitting on the kitchen steps which won't be too comfortable 😳

Morning all

Celebrated DD2's birthday at the weekend and have subsequently gained 2 pounds. No surprise as there was a takeaway, dinner out, cake, alcohol and a fair bit of snacking. Was lovely though!
Going to get back on track today. My original goal of a 3lbs loss in July is already in danger. Need to get the 2 added pounds off first....

poorpaws · 05/07/2022 09:27

@endlesswashing belatedhappy birthday to DD and it made me remember...

Morning all! I had a pretty good day yesterday. DP took the kids into a coffee shop and they had humongous fancy drinks. DS1 said his was basically a dessert masquerading as a coffee! I, meanwhile, looked around the shops and let them get on with it. So I burned off a calorie or two and enjoyed browsing alone.

I have decided to start from the beginning of Couch to 5k again, even though I did it before and had been running for 30 mins three times a week for over a year. After having Covid in February, I've lost direction with the running - not literally🤣 I just don't have any oomph and keep putting off runs. I did the first run of the programme this morning and thought it would seem easy, but no ... I was blooming knackered! But I feel happy to have some structure.

Welcome @Tokyo89 and @Vebrithien. Good to have you along.

@poorpaws I quite like frogs. We don't see too many where we live, but there was one sitting minding its own business on the pavement a couple of weeks ago when I was walking DS2 to school. We were already late, but he insisted on examining it from all angles and I was ordered to take a photo😂

bluebeck · 05/07/2022 12:52

I am a dreadful failure Grin

Have been trying and failing to lose weight for about three years now. I am buggered if I will buy any new clothes, so it was just as well we had all the wfh years so I could get away with wearing the same stuff over and over.

I am mid fifties, 5 ft 5 and hovering around 12 st 12. I have hypermobility/EDS which affects the exercise I can do, but I am making myself walk every day, which is obviously far more enjoyable in the summer.

The only way I can lose weight is to quit alcohol as I am a snacker when I drink and lose all will power. Going well so far this week, but I am going out for a Big Boozy Lunch for a friends birthday tomorrow which I know will be a bit of a setback but I will try not to have dessert Halo

My short term goal for July is to lose half a stone.

ClinkeyMonkey · 05/07/2022 14:33

Aw @bluebeck I'm the same with alcohol and snacking! I don't tend to drink alcohol during the week and usually manage not to snack TOO much, but come the weekend, the wine comes out and my willpower goes to pot😬 I always undo a week's good work by treating myself at the weekend. It's a terrible habit which I haven't been able to break for any prolonged period my whole life. Hope you enjoy your lunch!

poorpaws · 05/07/2022 15:01

@bluebeck I'm a snacker, a terrible evening snacker and it's embarrassing the amount I can eat. I'm worse off than you in a way because I don't drink (used to years ago) so I haven't got the excuse of "with a glass of wine" etc, I just pig out.

anybloodyname · 05/07/2022 15:31

@bluebeck

You are not a failure - you are having a delayed success .

bluebeck · 05/07/2022 15:44

Thanks for the welcome - loving the concept of "delayed success" Smile

Currently recovering from a binge of burger, chips and 6" subway. A moment of bliss, but now suffering greatly. Will I learn? Oh well. Start again!

Ooh we are becoming a nice group now aren’t we? Lots of different stories and circumstances too.

So things here, one , I’ve randomly lost another pound. This is good I know and I feel chuffed to bits and gasped at 6am when I weighed myself.
11 8 1/2
why? Well because I’ve have been poorly and genuinely have been starving so, no snacking but wolfing food down so fast I have burned my mouth twice since Saturday! I don’t deserve it!

however, has suspected r. Arthritis- waiting for a blood test- and think weight loss might be a bloody symptom!

off to check / Google it

did 30 mins walk to walk today as I missed the gym Monday because of being poorly.
