Good evening everyone

Welcome @TheDogsMother nice to have you here. Some of us (most of us) are doing a mini July challenge if you'd like to joins us. You chose your goal for the end of July and try to meet it. No pressure and it doesn't have to be a big goal and I've never met mine yet in other months 🥴 but I might in July.

@Mumstheword2022 We certainly are becoming a lovely group. Love the older posters on here but it's nice to have new people too. I hope this thread doesn't die a sudden death in a few months like most do; people get sick of dieting.

So... the carvery! I didn't do too badly I don't think
No starter, no wine, roast beef, no Yorkshire pudding, no roast potatoes BUT cauliflower cheese and roast parsnips did force themselves onto my plate. The rest were just ok veg, carrots, red cabbage, beans, sprouts.

The dessert was chocolate orange cheesecake and vanilla ice cream and that forced itself onto my plate too. I don't think I did too badly (?). Yes I know not perfect but I am a chocoholic. I will be going again in August so I hope I did well.

Off to bed early so I don't graze. Mission for tomorrow is drink more water.

Oh and today I didn't sit with mr frog, I kept on cleaning until it was time to get ready to go out 😇 which equals more steps.

Awww thank you for the birthday wishes @poorpaws and @endlesswashing, you really made me smile! Babies are in bed and I'm just lounging about swigging tea and eating the last of the ce (blanked for @CanadianJohn's benefit 😉) after an excellent few days of p*a, sk and chmpagne (couldn't asterisk that cos it looks like choc*e) and cake (sorry can't asterisk that because it looks REALLY RUDE).

@poorpaws i feel that way about moths. balmy summer evenings are not my friend.

@TheDogsMother sounds like you may be in the same boat having enjoyed the hospitality recently... I can't say I regret the deliciousness but my backside is not pleased about my mysteriously shrinking clothes.

Start again tomorrow, gym session booked for 9:30, after a 60 min walk the long way to get there. I'll be down to doublecheese before we know it.

@Mumstheword2022 congrats on the loss but so sorry to hear about your pending diagnosis, keep us posted how you get on.

@ClinkeyMonkey good luck with the running! Your body will catch up soon enough. I know whenever I've not run for a while the first few sessions feel like being run over, and I'm going sideways down the stairs.

@bluebeck enjoy the big boozy lunch, this is a journey after all. We're all into real life on this thread. Life is for lunching! Just not 3 meals a day right!?

welcome to our newcomers, stick with us, it's nice in here.

triplecheeese · 05/07/2022 21:53

I don't know WHAT happened to my formatting but I tried to put asterisks in for the food I'd eaten and now it looks mad 😂 I'm off to bed.

triplecheeese · 05/07/2022 21:58

Argh I didn't refresh and missed your carvery post @poorpaws and my mouth is watering. The best bit of the carvery is the mountain of roast veg I reckon. You did great!

Positivelypatient · 06/07/2022 04:54

Morning (sort of)... had a disturbed night with my DD now free from A Levels staying up until 4am watching K-drama downstairs, this better not become a habit, i can't sleep with the house 'still up'.
I'm on Day 3 of being good, so that's fasting from 7pm ish to 11am then an 8 hr window to eat my meals in. So far so good, feeling quietly determined to stick to it this time. Need to get more consistent exercise in. For now though I'm going to aim to do 10k steps a day, usually that's achievable with walking to work & back but on any days I don't do it by time I get home Im going to go back out for a walk after tea to complete them. That's the plan anyway.

Hope everyone else is doing ok too!

H1Drangea · 06/07/2022 06:36

Morning everyone , I’ve had 2 days of no bread , cakes , biscuit and wine ( faints )
Very unlike me
Yesterday, I missed breakfast ( I do BnB and the guests kept talking and by the time they’d gone I didn’t feel hungry ) so accidentally did a 16 / 8 like @Positivelypatient

Also , trying a walk every day , though last night I really couldn’t face walking the round the block walk for the millionth time so DH went on his own

Will do the fast again today , as it’s quite doable for me ,
then like yesterday an omlette for lunch , and we had moussaka last night ( my version with pork mince as I don’t like lamb ) tonight will be chicken Kiev and stacks of green veg

poorpaws · 06/07/2022 07:59

Good morning everyone

I'm just drinking my first glass of water of the day and realised that all my life I've only drunk water if I've taken tablets. To me this water tastes like tablets and it's making me feel quite sickly. I don't know what to do about it because I must increase my water intake but it's horrible. I know this sounds absolutely crazy but I can honestly taste horrible tablets getting stuck in my throat. What to do?

Home alone again today so a dog walk and then maybe more cleaning. I sometimes wish I had an exciting life but sadly it isn't.

Have a happy Wednesday everyone, the sun is shining, it's lovely.

Hi all. I weighed myself this morning and quite amazed it's showing 15 stone / just over as I had a 6" subway, burger and chips yesterday. I can only think it's from having a few good days of homemade soup.

I think I'll make another batch today!

I'm increasing the water content of the batches as it seems a good way to consume a good amount of water regularly too without having to remember / motivate to drink water.

I've set myself an ambitious target of getting under 15 stone by next week (just based on continuing with plenty of homemade soup and trying to not go mad with junk food) although I'll be happy with being over and closer to 15 stone than 15 and a half stone. I can't recall the last time I was under 15 stone.

Hopefully this is me finally being able to lose weight.

poorpaws · 06/07/2022 09:15

I feel exactly the same @TalkToTheHand123 . The times I've got under 11st and said I'll never been in the 11st bracket again and here I am for the millionth time struggling to get into the 10s again! I keep saying to myself "just do it for goodness sake". At least my long lost oomph seems to have returned.

My SIL has always been a bigger lady (sort of 151/2 st bracket) and because she's got hip problems decided to lose weight to help mobility but didn't tell anyone. I went out with her last night and was stunned! She's been dieting since 8 May and she must have lost no end of weight. She's always been embarrassed and secretive about her weight but she's looking good in such a short time. I really need to follow her lead,

OP posts:
ClinkeyMonkey · 06/07/2022 09:26

@poorpaws I've never been a water drinker myself. I have to really force myself to drink it, unless I've been exercising, then it just comes naturally. But I do like cold brew tea. Teapigs do a lovely range online. I just put a teabag in a pint glass and top it up with cold water, then leave it in there for ages (official time measurement!) Sometimes I leave it in until I finish the tea during the course of a couple of hours. It's really just fancy flavoured water, but lovely to experiment with all the different flavours. I do think there's a bit of an obsession with water drinking, though, as it's seen as being 'pure' in some way. I don't think I have ever had a problem with dehydration in my life, but I suppose water isn't a natural companion to cake, so in that way it's definitely very good!

Good luck in getting to your target @TalkToTheHand123. I love soup and make it a lot. In NI everyone used to be practically brought up on soup (ok slight exaggeration). Most families had a big pot of vegetable soup on the go made with the stock of whatever the Sunday roast had been (usually chicken), dried soup mix (barley, lentils, split peas etc), leeks, carrots, celery and parsley. It was always interesting(!) to taste what each person's soup was like, even though it was made with exactly the same vegetables. It lasted for days and was never refrigerated. I make it using vegetable stock. Lovely with a spud chucked in for dinner.

I keep threatening to do 11:8 @Positivelypatient, then giving up. I find it easy to not eat in the mornings, but struggle after the evening cut off. Sounds like it's working well for you though. Maybe I should have another crack at it. I could slide the hours to something like noon to 8 o'clock. But I'm all talk!

I'm not feeling great at the moment. I have that 'tired around the eyes' feeling, blocked sinuses and a niggling headache. I did a Covid test last night as the symptoms are very similar to my early Covid ones last time. It was negative. I don't have anywhere particularly pressing to go today, so will stay at home and see if I feel any better/worse tomorrow.

ClinkeyMonkey · 06/07/2022 09:29

Ha, not 11:8, 16:8. I've shortened the number of hours in the day😃

H1Drangea · 06/07/2022 09:32

@poorpaws I trained myself to drink tap water by making my usual squash , and just diluting it more each day , til in the end there’s just a drop of squash and a glass of water , now I happily drink tap water
I must admit to preferring sparkling water , ( or wine ) but we now keep a bottle of tap water in the fridge , always having ice cold water available

For your SIL to have done so well , IMHO is because she realised she needed to do something about it , and her mindset changed , making it her time to do it , therefore she could ( do you know what I mean ? )

Starving hungry now ! This fasting isn’t so easy today , so a mug of black coffee on the go , and then I’ll get on with the day

poorpaws · 06/07/2022 12:51

@ClinkeyMonkey and @H1Drangea it's so difficult because I don't drink tea (does it taste anything like tea?) and I don't like squash. I'm all about the fizz and addicted to diet coke (I drink it right through the day). The only other thing I drink is black coffee (and hot chocolate which is not allowed on my diet). DP drinks flavoured water but I'm not so keen on it, although I could drink it if pressed.

Some years ago I bough 6 large bottles of still water and 6 large bottles of fizzy water. They all went out of date, I mean well out of date and I had to pour them down the sink. Even DP who eats and drinks anything said they tasted off they were so old.

I need to find something else but I think if I fill the water with ice it won't taste so much like tablet taking. Tbh though I've never been one to take lots of tablets so where this taste thing is from I don't know.

@H1Drangea Yes I see what you mean about my SIL, she has had good health all her life and now she's not so well she's acting on her weight. Also since I've known her, which is a long time, she has only dieted once before. I, on the other hand, have spent my entire adult life on some diet or other and I'm so sick of it! That's why this time (even with a lot of hiccups failures along the way) I am still absolutely determined to see this through even if it takes a long time to get there. I want to be a reasonable weight (not necessarily thin) within the top end of BMI and stay that weight for some a long time).

OP posts:
ClinkeyMonkey · 06/07/2022 13:14

@poorpaws the ones I drink don't contain any tea. I've just looked at mine and the Teapigs ones are just called Cold Brew, without the word tea! They are a bit expensive, but there are a rare few items I don't mind paying a bit more for. Twinings do one called Cold Infuse, which was the first brand I tried (from Sainsbury's I think) and is very nice. Also, I'm fairly certain I've seen a Tetley version.

MamaSquealus · 06/07/2022 14:18

Hi all! Would it be ok if I joined please? This is such a lovely idea for a thread, and you’re all so nice! It’s been really grounding (and upsetting) to read about other women who feel like I do.

I put on a lot of weight during pregnancy and since having my baby (a year ago), which has not been helped at all by pregnancy hormones spurring on the progression of my Lipoedema. I need to lose about 2 stone to have surgery on my poor legs, so I could really do with a bit of moral support to keep me on the straight and narrow. If I could lose 6/7lbs this month, I’d be delighted!

I’m calorie counting and trying to stick to an anti-inflammatory diet. I’m also trying to stop seeing food as a reward as a starting point to dealing with my emotional eating…if I have a busy/difficult day or week, I’ll “reward” myself with a bath and an early night, not chocolate and a glass of wine.

Well done to everyone for making changes, and for the losses, sending you all so much positivity and support ❤️

poorpaws · 06/07/2022 14:58

@ClinkeyMonkey thank you I'll have a look in Sainsbury's when I next go. In the meantime I've had two more glasses of water with ice cubes in and I can just about tolerate that. That's three glasses in total, not enough I know but heading in the right direction.

@MamaSquealus welcome to our lovely thread, I think it gets better and more caring daily. Some of us lost our "oomph" a short time ago but we are not giving in and with such a huge amount of support here most of us are doing well again.

Hiya all... been busy for the past couple of days fitting 2 "kids" and their stuff from uni accomodation back into our little house for a bit. Such a stressful experience. Followed by DD21 arranging her uni year abroad paperwork mountain (under what was Erasmus). I am now tottering on the edge, menopausal, knackered, moody, tearful, etc on top of post covid exhaustion... so Dd19 made lemon drizzle cake...so good, but only a little slice was consumed!

Nice to look at the thread and see new members and everything ticking along...

Theredjellybean · 06/07/2022 20:31

@poorpaws ..I am a GP, I can tell you the obsession about drinking 8 glasses of water is nonsense.
Think about it logically... What exactly is the difference between a pint of squash and a pint of water?
For that matter any clear fluid... Exceptions if its vodka...
Some fizzy drinks will contain sugar.. And stuff like red bull has caffeine.
But look at the ingredients for things like Pepsi max... Number 1 is water.
Tea and coffee... Mostly water...

As long as you are drinking fluids (not alcohol or heavy on the sugar) it matters diddly squat what it is.
I haven't drunk plain water for years... Hate it... I'm 54, and apart from being 4 kgs overweight I'm healthy... All bloods recently were excellent, kidneys in tip top shape, my blood pressure is bang on normal and I feel great generally.

Water drinking is right up there with "5 a day"... Its just un evidenced public health messaging.

Do you know why it was 5 a day... Not 3,or7, or 9....because visually 5 is the number that stands out the best on advertising... That's it... It was chosen as the most recognisable number... Nothing to do with nutrition or science

So drink squash or tea or Pepsi max...

poorpaws · 06/07/2022 21:18

@Theredjellybean thank you so much, that is so helpful. I've been saying something like that for years re Pepsi Max but everyone seems to think I'm wrong. I thought it sounded like common sense. I'm never dehydrated, I drink a lot but just not plain water. I think it was talking to SIL last night that started me down this road, shes started drinking loads of water but then she doesn't drink much of anything else and I do. I feel as if I have permission now to continue what I've always done, thank you.

OP posts:
anybloodyname · 06/07/2022 21:38

I agree , as long as the urine is not a strong colour or smell , you don't feel thirsty and no symptoms like headache - you are drinking enough

I do try to drink as much as I can as my skin seems to like it and I live in hope of felling full

🙄

ClinkeyMonkey · 06/07/2022 21:39

@Theredjellybean so glad to read that about water because I really don't like it and neither does my youngest. But we both drink plenty of fluids. He drinks a lot of milk and some sugar free squash and I like my endless cups of tea, cold brew teas and the odd Pepsi Max!

Theredjellybean · 07/07/2022 05:29

Glad to help... If you drank 20 cups of tea, milky with full fat Jersey gold top and five sugars... You'd still be OK for fluid but it would be wracking up your calories. So if you swap tgat to 8 glasses of water yep you'll lose weight but if you drink drinks not high in calories and not really high in additives then you're fine.
Yesterday I drank four cups of proper coffee with milk (200mls =100cal, all counted and logged :))
Two pints of Pepsi max, 4 small cans of slimline tonic, one cup of tea.

poorpaws · 07/07/2022 08:08

Good morning all

It's slow going here compared to how much movement I'm doing.

As I'm not seeing DP for some time (as I said he's decorating his flat without any thought of me and that we were going out today and on what seems to be the hottest time of year), I'm doing jobs to keep me busy and to stop me thinking of ways to kill him and get away with it.---- I never stopped yesterday but the weight seems to be sticking. I think my big bowl of crunchy nut cornflakes has to be reduced a lot.

How are you all doing? It's so hot here but I love it. The only downside is that my garden is very steep and newly planted so either the plants will die or I have to turn into a mountain goat with a hose, it's not easy and definitely not a good look.

I hope my positivity isn't leaving me, I feel it is a little.

Have a lovely sunny Thursday everyone and keep on trying

OP posts:
ClinkeyMonkey · 07/07/2022 09:57

@poorpaws I love crunchy nut cornflakes and didn't have them in the house for years because I would eat them at random times of the day, often with no milk like eating crisps. DP suddenly decided he liked them, so they're back! I just have to ignore them. But he (the feckin' weirdo) takes a bowl of cornflakes topped up with a couple of spoonfuls of crunchy nut cornflakes😵‍💫 How? That's why he's skinny and I'm a weeble.

The diet wagon ran over my toe last night when I fell off. I did indulge a little because I was feeling a bit sorry for myself thinking I might have Covid again. But I feel completely normal again today (2 negative tests!) and have been for a c25k walk-run. It's very warm, but a bit cloudy, which seems to be what we're getting in Co Down as a summer this year. I have hoisted myself back into the wagon and am going to keep busy and pretend there are no Freddos in the cupboard.

H1Drangea · 07/07/2022 10:11

Cloudy and warm here too in Wales
@ClinkeyMonkey I still haven’t had Covid ( know I’m going to be struck down with it the week we are 🤞moving ) it seems to be prolific locally here again

I like tap water now , the only reason I wanted to stop the squash was the artificial ingredients it contains , we have nice soft water though , which might help
Still doing ok. But it’s only day 4 !
Had a couple of glasses of wine last night , and will have a day 5 weigh in tomorrow and hoping to see some progress
