☀️THE SUMMER COUNTDOWN THREAD ☀️

Fresh new month, fresh new start, fresh new habits. Jump right in to reset & refresh to become a healthier version of yourself in time for a Sizzling Summer!

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating to LOSE or MAINTAIN. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We generally have WOW (Weigh On Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable).

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fast and generally eat twice a day.

Are you in😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why?

@SanFranBear Posted a pic of meal 2 just for you. Delish it was too 😋 I agree, Eurovision feels rejuvenated 🎶

@SunshineCake pleased to read your run was easy 🏃‍♀️ 👍

@Puffalicious Smiley Puff sounds great! Well done on your loss 👍

@AnyoneElseFeelDone yo-yoing can be frustrating. Keep going, it’ll happen!

Good stats @SingaporeSlinky 👍

My twatarooney of a dog ate my cauliflower seedlings and the compostable pots they were in resulting in a carpet covered in compost! (I’d put them in front of the patio doors in the living room to give them some warmth through the glass). He was full of beans afterwards, bouncing about and being playful! I didn't have the heart to tell him off.

@SunshineCake well done on the run!

@Puffalicious excellent result!

@TheRealHousewife laughed out loud at twatarooney 😂 and also your meals sound super delish!

@Graphista yes it's definitely something I have to work out. I'm at the top end of healthy, and I'd like more wiggle room to stay healthy, so I do want to lose more. Re exercise - it's honestly such a mental block, so I don't know. I danced for years and years, and love that kind of thing. I do much better at classes than gym etc; used to to bootcamp, metafit and so on and got into amazing shape. I hate/am awful at running. I constantly look at classes locally but can't find ones that fit into our lives that aren't online, and I don't like doing it at home. It's so hard to work out.

Sorry I've forgotten who else I wanted to tag and message but reading everything and sending love, celebrations and solidarity to all ❤️

This weekend has been more balanced in general; we're getting takeaway tonight but I knew that would be the case as DH was away with friends this weekend and came home grey with hangover. So I had my (what is becoming my) normal weekday lunch of small soup and crudités instead of what I'd normally have at weekends (sandwich and crisps, or variation of), had some snacking crisps this afternoon but again that's very normal in this house on a Sunday. Last weekend I had breakfast both days which I normally don't have (I'm not sure why I had it tbh) and I haven't had it this weekend. Not feeling as sluggish as normal, which is likely down to less bread, crisps etc. Hoping for a springy start to the week!

TheRealHousewife · 15/05/2022 19:06

@ImALittlePea Thank you … I see the photo didn’t attached so I’ll try again 😊 It’s basically a cheese & chorizo omelette attached to a pan fried (no oil) corn tortilla 😋

Anyonelsefeeldone I'm sorry you're feeling so frustrated. I'm the usual one howling at the moon. I know exactly how shitty you can feel. My body is a nightmare since I've got older (50): it takes forever to show up weight loss or gain. I know all our protestations of 'Keep the Faith' will be hollow at the minute but we're right behind you.

Well done for those exercising- I'll get there.

Justkoko · 15/05/2022 19:37

@Crazzzycat please can I ask what rowing programme you are using? I have a rower and could do with a plan to follow.

Benjispruce4 · 15/05/2022 20:05

So I painted some garden furniture then did a bit of gardening. I was cutting back some overgrown hedge that is trying to strangle my lovely lilac tree. When I came in to cook dinner I found a tick attached to my scalp.😱Cue panic and frantic Dr Google. I didn’t know it was a tick so just picked it off. Luckily it was intact and I’ve put it in a jar. So now I have to wait in case I get any Lyme symptoms.😯
Kinda ruined my dinner to be fair!

AnyoneElseFeelDone · 15/05/2022 21:04

Thanks @TheRealHousewife and @Puffalicious I have thyroid issues like our leading lady 😉 and cycles vary widely and seemingly have my period now. Ah well. Will try and do my best and much as I can. Off for a walk tomorrow after an unusually inactive weekend and all the usual weekday bustle

Thinking of you @SunshineCake and hope you're ok @Benjispruce4 that made me feel 🤢

Graphista · 15/05/2022 21:18

@ginsparkles I'm sure your dd will love them

@Flowers111 your post made me laugh great stuff!

@milkfromthesleepycow I fear I may make it as far as the outside of the pool initially we'll see

and don't forget sometimes the tape measure is kinder than the scales.

Still not got around to this but I've got my craft bag out so will do in a min - need to do a bra measurement anyway

Right:

Seems my weight is redistributing itself

Inch on bust and hips, inch off waist - what is that about?

@SunshineCake I don't know what to say, there's nothing we can say really to help you not worry, we all I think just hope that dd will be ok. Sending healthy blessings to all the family

Yesterday started well, then dinner was a blowout plus 2 mojitos! Need to figure out how to "treat myself" without having tons of cals!

Today trying to rein it in

L - wholemeal bread sandwich 2 slices bread, light cream cheese, veggie ham, cucumber. Sliced pepper and low fat hummus portion, apple, yogurt, cereal bar. Diet soda

Drinking my water! (And peeing for britain until body adjusts again)

Dinner I'm not sure, maybe baked potato with ratatouille and maybe some diced veggie bacon mixed in or maybe some veggie chilli

Too tired to go out - slept till 4pm! (On and off)

Keeping myself occupied and not eating with marvels agents of shield and cross stitch

I've not seen Eurovision not watched in years but sounds like it's worth a watch lots on sm about it. So I'm thinking I'll watch on catchup

@SingaporeSlinky I think what's difficult for me is when I WAS skinny I didn't eat like that! I ate pasties, take aways, crisps, chocolate, cakes, chips, pizza... so how the hell was I skinny? Others even at the time commented! My parents and boyfriend were constantly telling people "oh no she eats loads! And all the "wrong" things too" boyfriend at the time was well into sports and over 6' and I ate more than him!

@Puffalicious well done you must be so pleased

I do now have a bag that is smart enough for town but also big enough to carry water (I just remembered yesterday I have a "chillys" style bottle I can take out and about with me d'oh! That'll be healthier AND save me money) and healthy snacks or even a "packed lunch (thinking I may get myself a wee cool bag)

I also need (financially) to stop shopping as a leisure activity!

Instead of going shopping I need to go swimming or to the museums or art galleries or...something! Any ideas? I need to maintain the going out for Mh side but can't keep spending money and eating too bloody much!

@ImALittlePea I was also a dancer. Rubbish at sport mostly but good at dance and swimming. Can't dance now though. Running I could do as no real skill involved for me.

So hard not being able to do anything but shuffle about now

That looks utterly delicious, RealHousewife! Sadly, DDs friend did stay so I had to content myself with a cold chicken salad - could've had the roast trimmings I guess, but not the same without the lush, hot, soft breast 😳 Did have a slice of pumpkin pie afterwards though which took me right up to goal so probably best I stuck to salad!

I hope you stay well, Benji. If its any consolation, it's pretty rife for ticks around here and despite a few attaching over the years, we've never picked up anything worse than a sore spot.

Trying to summon the energy to make lunchboxes for the DC and then drag myself to bed. Sleeping really weirdly at the moment (I blame the weather, or maybe it's the moon, or - far more likely - bloody peri-menopause) so should really hit the hay. But my cat is asleep on me so there's really nothing I can do!

Benjispruce4 · 15/05/2022 22:55

Awww that’s a gorgeous sleepy cat. Thanks for positive thoughts. I think it was only on me an hour or two as I found it at 5.30 and got in the bushes/hedge after 3 so fingers crossed it didn’t have time to transmit anything, if indeed it was carrying Lyme at all. Still not nice finding something attached to your skin. ⚠️ Pic attached if you like that kind of thing.

TheRealHousewife · 16/05/2022 08:18

Good Morning Everyone 😊

@SanFranBear That pussy cat is adorable 🥰 Hope you slept well!

@Graphista Well done on your waist reduction. Fantastic 👍👏

@AnyoneElseFeelDone Thyroid issues I find does slow things up weight wise. But we won’t be beaten! And like @Puffalicious says ‘keeping the faith’ 😊

@Benjispruce4 Sorry to read about the tick! I would definitely speak to a health care professional about it to see if you need to take anything to avoid lime disease. Fingers crossed 🤞

OP posts:
Benjispruce4 · 16/05/2022 08:35

Thanks @TheRealHousewife no there’s nothing to take preventatively according to NHS guidance, only if I get symptoms.

milkfromthesleepycow · 16/05/2022 08:37

@Benjispruce4 the transmission rate for ticks is actually pretty low. I had 4 or 5 last year (must stop traipsing over the moors!). You should be fine x

TheRealHousewife · 16/05/2022 08:41

@Benjispruce4 Ok it’s good you sought advice. Do you know what to look for? Being on your scalp it would be difficult to see the red ring (bullseye) that can appear.

Menu
Meal 1 - Mushroom & Lentil Soup.
Meal 2 - Salmon fillet and spicy cauliflower rice. Pear. Kefir yoghurt.
Tea, Coffee, sparkling water.

Dont forget your water ladies, it does help … @Graphista I know you are on it already 😊

Morning all

@SanFranBear that cat is so cute!

So another day at work, was meant to be off but things changed! At least it means I have more chance of staying focussed! Yesterday ended a little over but more in control than weekends thus far have been!

Todays plan
Lunch Prawn mayo salad
Dinner.... really not sure yet! Might do jacket spuds if it's not too late when I get in. Not sure I can do a double salad day but it may end up that way!

Benjispruce4 · 16/05/2022 09:59

Thanks @milkfromthesleepycow i know and yes I know what to look for. DH has checked this morning and I’ll get him to do that daily for a while and look out for the other symptoms too. I’m 51 and have had a dog for 6 years so can’t believe this is my first!

HouseofHolbein · 16/05/2022 09:59

Morning! Day off today 🎉 but woke up with an evil headache. Took a couple of tablets and went back to bed. Didn’t have much caffeine yesterday wondering if it’s that? Although I don’t usually drink loads… I’ve already upped my water over the weekend and will carry it on today but I’ve just had a cup of tea before I do house stuff.

food yesterday was 2 crumpets a bowl of homemade leek and potato soup (with lentils added) then I took crackers cheese and cucumber to work with a scotch egg pack of Square crisps and an orange Club biscuit.

currently quite hungry - fast is technically over but I’m not breaking it until at least 11.

exercise today is running club this evening. Not sure I’ll do much else.

@Graphista I enjoy swimming but our local pool has a very complicated timetable these days which I don’t have the energy to work out 🤣🤣 although I think they are under new management so I might investigate.

@Benjispruce4 hope you are ok after your tick encounter 😱 you’ll need to wear a hat whilst gardening in future 🤣🤣

oh I did a weigh in again this morning down very slightly to 9st 7.54lb. Expect it will be up and down now but hopefully the ups won’t go as high iyswim.

happy Monday everyone!

CrimsonAlligator · 16/05/2022 13:53

Hey everyone! 👋 I’m back from my holiday, having gone more than a little bit off plan. On a more positive note, I did do lots of walking, so hopefully I won’t see too much of an increase on the scales.

@Justkoko , I use the Training Peaks website/app for rowing programmes. The programme I’m following is pretty hardcore (5x 1hr+ sessions). I’m not sure if that is what you are after, but if not I can also recommend Dark Horse Rowing on YouTube, which has got some good beginner and intermediate routines. Those are much shorter (20-30 minutes) and hopefully less painful.

DH likes to joke that the Training Peaks programme I’m doing is for absolute nutters, so on that basis I probably shouldn’t recommend it to anyone else 😂

TheRealHousewife · 16/05/2022 13:57

@CrimsonAlligator Welcome back! Are you all refreshed or do you need another one to get over it 😬Well done on all your walking, fingers crossed 🤞 the scales reward you.

@HouseofHolbein Well done on your loss! 👍 Every bit helps.

@ginsparkles Your lunch sounds tasty, enjoy! 😋 It has reminded me to put Prawns on the menu.

Hi everyone

I am so tired I can't think what to write. Well done to everyone for keeping going, making good choices, not getting killed by a tick and enjoying your holiday.

I ran this morning and had some good songs come on the iPod so ran pretty fast. Was really pleased with my time as a big improvement.

I took DD to the station this morning. Had a chat then once at the station she got her bag from the boot and I told her through the window I loved her. The look she gave me as she left me feeling bereft. I know she has arrived in Edinburgh safely as she sent a couple of messages and a photo but goodness, Friday feels a long way away. I have not stopped all day as needed to keep busy. I have cleaned DD AND DS2s room, done loads of washing, walked the dog this afternoon and sorted the bedding. DH will making dinner and will pick up DS1 from the station at 9.30 for his surprise visit home ❤️

Benjispruce4 · 16/05/2022 16:29

Does your DD travel for work or is she visiting friends in Edinburgh@SunshineCake ? Well done on your run. Well done to the losers too.
B-Oats with water and berries, yoghurt and chia seeds.
L- Green bean, tuna and chickpea salad, apple
D- Not sure but something involving salmon fillets.

SunshineCake · 16/05/2022 16:34

She's gone to do touristy things and will see a friend one night @Benjispruce4 DH thinks we will be okay today. I think the more the days pass the more I'll worry.

Benjispruce4 · 16/05/2022 16:36

Who has she gone with? Are they able to reassure you ?

SunshineCake · 16/05/2022 16:44

She has gone alone Sad.

Benjispruce4 · 16/05/2022 16:48

Gosh that’s hard for you. If she’s gone to do tourist stuff, it sounds like she’s in a good frame of mind. I’m aware I’m generalising and that I don’t know the situation. Will she not let you tag along?
