But I've decided to give it a go

The food is the sort of stuff I like to eat although I'll have to make some substitutes as I'm a vegetarian. But I love Bircher, porridge, all her snacks and salads etc

I'm starting tomorrow and wondered if anyone had some advice regarding the method or stories

Thanks!

I have been following the plan rigorously for a week and half. I've weighed everything out. I've put 4lbs on.
It's really knocked me!

Moanranger · 12/04/2022 15:08

I have officially started today. I did a major shop, but had a lot of the ingredients anyway. I am trying to channel LP holistically, so before I shopped, I thoroughly cleaned the fridge. I also spent considerable time arranging my chopped salad lunch & made a sherry vinaigrette from scratch. Not LP, but following her principles. So by having this elegant, well crafted salad I don’t feel deprived. I also replaced some very manky baking sheets - bringing joy, serenity & beauty to my surroundings😀. I will snack later on 3 oatcakes plus peanut butter. Dinner is dal from recipe book, and 1 evening snack will be a smoothly. We will see if I can keep hunger at bay

HardRockOwl · 12/04/2022 16:22

@notacooldad oh no! I bet that has blind sided you a bit 😔 Can you share what you've been eating, what sort of meals and snacks? Are you overweight or nearer normal weight?

HardRockOwl · 12/04/2022 16:23

Sounds like a great start @Moanranger - you've inspired me to book an oven clean actually!!

So sorry to hear that @notacooldad. How frustrating! Like @HardRockOwl maybe share what you have been eating incase we can help

RinklyRomaine · 12/04/2022 17:49

I ate the whole avocado. Only 1/3 of the mozzarella tho. No one but me eats them here and I'm not throwing them away. This is test week really so I'm getting my ideas together.

Banana and a couple of walnuts as a snack.

Fillet steak with Asian slaw and miso tonight. Really good.

HardRockOwl · 12/04/2022 19:00

I had the most revolting dinner. Just horrible. I'm not entirely sure what happened here and what my thought processes were but I had ... a bowl of roasted sprouts with feta on top.

And that was it. Clearly having a weird moment

I think I'll do some planning this evening and make a bircher for the morning

OP posts:
EssexLioness · 12/04/2022 19:04

Sorry but that made me lol @HardRockOwl. TBF it does sound pretty horrible (even though I like sprouts)

HardRockOwl · 12/04/2022 19:23

@EssexLioness it was just gross. Dunno what I was thinking 😜 Ah well - at least it was on plan

You should have roasted the sprouts with a bit of harissa.

Moanranger · 12/04/2022 20:19

I made the dal. First time I have ever grated four onions!Tasty & filling & will give us two dinners. It also called for 8 tomatoes😱 I used 1 tin instead

shinynewapple22 · 12/04/2022 20:27

I asked DH to get me some 0% Fage yogurt - he came back with lemon flavour muller yoghurt because the Fage one only came in a large tub Hmm so no yogurt today.

B - porridge with skimmed milk, chia seeds, almond butter and a couple of slices of banana

L - mackerel and lentil salad with cherry tomatoes

snack - 2 rice cakes with peanut butter and fruit spread (not sure either the fruit spread or the rice cakes are properly on the plan)

D - baked haddock with mash celeriac, broccoli and spinach

I may have some fruit and cheese later

HardRockOwl · 12/04/2022 20:31

@shinynewapple22 that looks like a really good day! You're right, the rice cakes and fruit spread aren't on plan but you have to adapt where you need to and Louise says this herself

HardRockOwl · 12/04/2022 22:35

Ok, I've made a bircher - the orange juice one with 0% total Greek yogurt, chia seeds and topped with raspberries. Think I prefer one of these to making porridge in the morning

That said, I've got some Pearl barley arriving tomorrow as I fancied trying the Pearl barley porridge.

I'm going to try and eat some different stuff tomorrow as feel I could be getting in a slight rut

Sending sincerest sympathies for your tea @HardRockOwl Whatever you do, don’t get stuck in a rut with those sprouts Grin

Sorry I’ve been MIA, work is mental (nhs) and I’m quite proud that I’m not mainlining refined junky carbs all day every day.

I’m having a good breakfast: yogurt and fruit with nuts, a decent snack (fruit with nuts or cheese or a few oatcakes with nut butter) but then I’m so tired by the time I get home I’m tending just to eat what I’m feeding the kids. To be fair we eat pretty well: so this week we’ve had stuff like a chickpea curry with brown rice and naans, veggie sausages, loads of veg, mashed potatoes and gravy. It’s all pretty nourishing, it’s just way too carby for LP. I’m still calling it progress though cos as I say, I’ve been used to eating those sorts of meals with 1000 calories of crap on top, so removing the crap hadn’t made me lose any weight yet but that’s fine.

Anyway, I just wanted to say hi. I’m still trying, just not quite there with the food yet. I hit 10k steps easily every day, and sleep like a log (cf exhausted/single mum/nhs) so some of my pillars are vertical!

EssexLioness · 13/04/2022 09:36

Morning everybody. I asked DH to take photos of me yesterday in my underwear (not in a kinky way 😆) so I can compare any changes. We did this last year and even though I am still the the same weight you can definitely see a difference. So that was quit motivating. Not huge differences but you can see my biceps now and my shoulder muscles are more pronounced, my hips look small/ less lumpy and my stomach has a little more shape where my abs are beginning to form. I have upped my weight training in the last couple of weeks and I am wondering if that would maybe mean I am holding onto more water or something. Anyway even if the scales are being mean to me I am clearly doing something right so I am plodding on and I am going to try and not get too hung up on the scales. Think I’m going to change my weigh in day to Saturday.

For some reason I have woken up not hungry at all - weird cos I was hungry before I went to bed last night. So I have just had a coffee for breakfast, will have a banana later if I get hungry. I don’t see the point in making myself eat breakfast if I genuinely don’t want it. Lunch might be my usual protein shake, or a brown roll with veggie bacon rashers. Dinner is veg and tofu stir fry. Snacks: yoghurt, nuts and berries, maybe a couple of oatcakes

notacooldad · 13/04/2022 09:39

After my rubbish weight gain and feeling disheartened I'll try again. Just hope I dont put another 4lbs on!! ☹
I followed the recipes to the letter!!

EssexLioness · 13/04/2022 10:09

Well done for sticking with it @notacooldad. Hopefully it was just a bad week. I am also sticking with it. Have you been weight training or increasing your exercise a lot? Just wondering if you might be like me and your body is changing even though the scales say you have gained. Maybe try taking photos to compare like I am doing and take measurements if you haven’t already done so. Just something so the number on the scales doesn’t become your only way of measuring progress.

notacooldad · 13/04/2022 10:25

hi essexkmlioness*
I've always weight trained. I've been doing that for 40 year now. I slipped a bit about 5 years ago and got back into it. I havent done as much as I used to. I've been doing the exercises in the book and they are pretty standard so that wont make a difference to the weight.
I'll see what happens when I weigh myself in two weeks!
I've been spinning this morning so that was good.
We are out tonight on a family gathering following a funeral this afternoon and I've already decided what I'm having ' halloumi and beetroot salad!
Unfortunately the number on the scales do matter to me. My doctors surgery wants to know before they reissue HRT. I had been hoping to be lighter by now ,not heavier!

EssexLioness · 13/04/2022 11:25

That makes sense. If you are menopausal/ peri then that seems to play havoc with weight too. I am on hrt and been trying for about 6 months to lose this last stone. No matter what I do it just doesn’t work and I have weeks where I do everything right and still gain. I sympathise as it’s so disheartening. Sounds like you have a good food plan for today, I hope the funeral goes as well as these things can and that you are ok.

EssexLioness · 13/04/2022 11:27

Sorry, just realised that if you have been weight training for 40 years then you are probably post menopausal now but I know many women still find they are struggling with symptoms, weight etc then too. Hormones do a real number on us women

notacooldad · 13/04/2022 11:37

I have just started my menopause.
I'm currently having the period from hell as well!!
I've started HRT.
I'm going to the gym soon before a funeral later today so it's only going to be a quick visit but I'm doing ' godess hormones workout' that umis resistance with no rest between sets. It takes 20 mins.

notacooldad · 13/04/2022 11:52

It's a good job I enjoy exercise. My weight gain has come from a hot mess of depression followed by Covid which left me really ill for months and struggling afterwards followed by a hefty dose of menopause which left me sitting for months doing next to nothing.
Thankfully the fog is lifted and I'm enjoying my activities again but oh god, my body!!

Back on plan though!

Moanranger · 13/04/2022 12:06

Sutra maybe look at the simpler LP recipes that you can batch cook. Then you have something ready to go when you get home tired. I know how hard that can be.
Finding this woe generally filling. ATM I am breakfasting on some high protein muffins that I made before starting this. They are not too out of line, tho the recipe called for brown sugar, which I cut back substantially. I think if I can follow this strictly it should work.
My background to this is that I vowed to stop spending £ on diets. I have loads of books, etc I can use, hence using the Beck system as I have the book. I also recently met up with a friend I hadn’t seen for awhil, similar age to me, who has lost 3.5 stone following Slimming World. This did NOT make me want to join SW ( see previous vow ) (also their rules make my brain hurt) But she did it by following SW, no variation. I did order a SW “free foods” cookbook ( secondhand, on-line, less than a fiver) just to give me some ideas. See how it goes🙂
