Not going to be fat and 50!

MrsMigginsCat · 01/01/2022 21:09

Every year I say I'm going to do it, but this year I'm determined that I have to lose it. I've got my 50th birthday in May and a once in a lifetime trip in October. I don't want to be fat for either.

I've ordered a treadmill. I like walking, but don't like going out before or after work when it's dark so I thought this would get me back into being more active. Eating wise I'm going to follow Fast800 for a boost at the beginning. I'm the kind of dieter that needs to see results quickly otherwise I'm in danger of giving up so I'm hoping this will give me a decent loss at the start and spur me on.

Anyone want to join me in an accountability thread?

@catwomando

Wohoooo! 64.5 today so have lost a full 2 kilos (4lb)

That's 8 blocks of butter. Grin

How's everyone else getting on?

@catwomandoo well done you! 👏🏻

4.4lbs down since I first weighed on 6th January. I just need to keep it going!

catwomando · 21/01/2022 17:35

@Roominmyhouse welcome to the 'eight blocks of butter ' club Grin

MrsMigginsCat · 21/01/2022 19:35

I'm staying off the scales until Monday. Had a couple of bad weekends last week and the one before, but between them I have been on track food wise. Nothing planned for this weekend - have even stocked up on sparkling water to drink instead of wine so hopefully the scales will show a loss when I summon up the courage to jump on!

catwomando · 21/01/2022 20:53

@MrsMigginsCat whatever the scales say, you are making the effort and that will have results in the end.

dudsville · 22/01/2022 07:58

I'm enjoying hearing about all the butter loss!

I've carried on with the 16:8, on work days often breakfast is quite late 11, 12 ish (my window 10/10:30 to 6/6:30 and I don't shiftthe closing time) but that's been absolutely fine. I've done as many miles walking and on the bike that I can fit in, so although I'm not reaching the highs of holiday time I'm still doing something every day, which is great since I was doing nothing.

We had a takeaway curry yesterday though and wine (all within the window) and I feel a little worse for wear this morning! I'll see whether today is a sofa/rest day as the day progresses!

IfCanCanICan · 23/01/2022 07:26

Morning all, great to see everyone's losses. Tomorrow will be my 2 week point of Fast800, although I'm allowing myself 1000 calories but keeping carbs to below 50g. I've lost exactly 10lbs. Couldn't be more pleased.

Finding IF really easy, thankfully! Oh but I do have milk in my morning coffee. I think I'd struggle without that.

Hope everyone has a great week.

dudsville · 23/01/2022 09:02

I was reading about the 16:8 this morning. I've been doing it for 20 days and it's been a real positive lifestyle changer. I really feel I've adapted my relationship to food - I've never been an emotional eater living with my partner of a decade my eating habits worsened. He's a little bit of a pusher but this has been easier for him to grasp and respect then other things I've tried. So I feel this is a daily routine now and I've that I can maintain. Now that I've got this under my belt I'm thinking for this week of introducing the 5:2 for weight loss. I'm not wanting fast loss. Of course I'd like it, but I'm not willing to pay that much in terms of effort.

I took a break day from exercising yesterday. I've only had 5 break days since starting mid December. I've always folded one in when I wanted it so that exercise remained a positive experience but I was so tired yesterday and the sofa beckoned!

catwomando · 23/01/2022 09:37

@IfCanCanICan that's amazing (and 16 blocks of butter!!!Grin)

I've had a bad (but necessary and enjoyable) couple of days.

Thursday was DS birthday so 3 g&ts and small bit of cake
Friday curry and wine
Saturday ok on food but mohito and wine Grin, which was needed after seeing DS back to uni Sad

Back on it today.

dudsville · 23/01/2022 11:11

Further reading about the 5:2 has turned me off the idea. Being hungry and counting calories isn't somehting I'm interested in. I'm thinking instead of having days that are sugar free, wheat free and vegan.

I may as well have today as one of these as breakfast is a courgette, mushrooms, spinach and tomatoes seasoned and cooked with eggs, and my coffees and teas have been black, but I'll generally aim for these to be work days.

dudsville · 23/01/2022 11:11

oops, eggs! Tomorrow then.

Roominmyhouse · 23/01/2022 11:31

I went out out last night and had several (double) G&T’s and birthday cake. Did lots of dancing though so burned off some of those calories!

Overall for the week I’m about right for calories so still hoping to see a loss this week.

MrsMigginsCat · 23/01/2022 16:58

I've crept up to 1200 calories a day, but am keeping carbs to a minimum. Tomorrow is weigh day so I will see if my strategy has worked.

I've had scrambled egg, smoked salmon and mushrooms for breakfast, celery sticks, peanut butter, pear and Stilton for lunch (bit random, but the Stilton needing eating up and I really fancied trying my new artisan peanut butter!). Dinner is going to be roast pork, carrots, cauliflower and broccoli. DH and DS will have roast potatoes as well.

I am finding my sugar cravings are lessening which is good as I was a massive chocolate fiend.

I carried on thinking about how I could press on a bit for more weight loss without suffering too much. I have to do this gradually and it has to be a lifestyle shift I enjoy or I'll give up. Reading other threads got me looking at miso. They were having it during fast days. I love home made healthy "pot noodle" so I've bought some of this with some fish and chicken to see if I could enjoy having this as one of my meals. Anyone like miso?

catwomando · 23/01/2022 22:16

@dudsville I have a jar of miso in the fridge and use it on fast days. It's delish!

MrsMigginsCat · 24/01/2022 07:40

Slightly disappointed. Did my first intermittent weigh in and since 5th January I've only lost just under 3lbs. I know I should see this as a win and 1lb a week will still get me nearly to my goal by my big holiday in October, but it's just so slow.

In the past when I was younger, losses of 2,3,4 or even 5lbs a week were pretty normal. Got to keep telling myself that this isn't a quick fix and slow and steady wins the race, but deep down I was hoping for about half a stone in the first few weeks.

OP posts:
Roominmyhouse · 24/01/2022 08:47

@MrsMigginsCatits it’s so easy to feel like that but 3lbs is still 3lbs!

dudsville · 24/01/2022 17:17

I'm sorry @mrsmiggins, that's exactly what's keeping me off the scales. You said yourself, you can make your goal at this pace. Focus on that, not on how long it takes to get there but on how happy you'll be that you persevered when it was tough.

IfCanCanICan · 24/01/2022 18:26

Ah that's frustrating MrsMiggins. Still a loss though...and maybe you'll have a huge weight loss whoosh any day now.

DrMadelineMaxwell · 25/01/2022 07:25

I lost....1lb!
My own fault due to lack of planning and willpower and dodging my exercise class due to a pulled muscle.

Not using it as a reason to quit though. Salad lunches for 3 days made and in the fridge at work. Zumba attended last night for the first time in a fortnight.

2 meals out this week to navigate so I will be as good as possible around them.

Any loss is better than none.

Roominmyhouse · 25/01/2022 08:59

@DrMadelineMaxwell a pound is still a loss, well done!

MrsMigginsCat · 25/01/2022 19:25

Evening all. I've had a good day on the food front.

Porridge, pear and cinnamon for breakfast
Lunch was leftover bean stew with some celery sticks and grated mozzarella on the top
Dinner was egg wrap with halloumi, mushrooms, onion, tomato and chilli. Bit random, but I had to 'create' from fridge leftovers!

Anyway it all came in at just over 1000 calories. Reached my step target too. I've got real chocolate cravings tonight though. Going to have a soak in the bath to take my mind off it.

Hello peeps

2nd day this week at under 800 calories.

Hope to see the results of this on the scales tomorrow Grin

Keep plodding on!

morasmum · 25/01/2022 20:19

Can i join? 47, 1stone to loose, started 8/16 on Monday and set my heart to do at least 10k steps every day after all this wfh extravaganza with less than 2k steps a day and lots of snacking.

MrsMigginsCat · 25/01/2022 20:29

Welcome @morasmum

That all sounds eminently doable and sustainable. I'm getting myself into the mindset that there is no quick fix and whatever I do has to be done for a long time, if not forever. It's definitely harder to lose weight as you get older which doesn't help either.

IfCanCanICan · 25/01/2022 21:43

Well today I've eaten outside of my 8 hours, had a handful of salt and vinegar peanuts, about 8 large white chocolate buttons and a glass of port on top of my normal meals. That all seems like quite a small amount of extra food in my eyes, but has doubled my day's calories. Gah. Back on it tomorrow.
