Calorie counting for the new year, anyone want to join?

Hello :)
I have a 11lbs to lose, and planning on calorie counting as it’s worked well for me in the past. I’ll be using Nutracheck and on 1450 calories a day. I really need accountability so I’m planning to post my calories and meals each evening, and weigh in every Thursday starting tomorrow.

I’d love some company!
Happy to talk to myself if not though (and I fully expect I will be as it’s a bit of a boring thread 😂).

I was planning to start on the 1st but due to being absolutely disgusted with how much I’ve eaten over Christmas I’m starting tomorrow instead Grin

I’m also planning a general lifestyle improvement - much less time on my phone, and some kind of exercise every day.

Good luck to anyone else looking to lose weight in the new year! 💪

Ugh. Covid has struck. It hasn’t hit me yet so today I’ve been for a run and a walk to maximise my exercise opportunity before I get taken down. DH is already driving me mad although he’s not very ill, just a bit of a cold.

Cassimin · 19/01/2022 16:44

Hopefully it’s not too bad, mine was literally no taste for a day and a runny nose.

Daisy829 · 19/01/2022 17:40

It’s really bizarre. We just did a lat flow on our youngest as lots of cases in her class and her best friend tested positive & then she did. So we all did one. Dh positive, me & DD2 are fine. You honestly wouldn’t know it was covid they are fine. DH was up drinking beer last night and has been cleaning windows & cupboards today!

Milliways · 19/01/2022 18:36

Ooh @AndSoFinally, we have some of those in the freezer in the garage!
Thanks everyone for the other tips.
DH just offered me a mince pie and I accepted, but it is still within todays count (just) considering we are about to go out for a walk!

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 19/01/2022 19:14

Sorry about the covid @Daisy829 hope it's not too bad.

I'd forgotten about mini twisters, I'm getting those on the shopping list!

I tend to use what would have been my commuting time for exercise at home (I've got Les mills on demand) but I feel I need to get out for a walk at lunchtime to get the normal 'commuting' steps in.

@Gwenhwyfar - I have weighed a portion of butter for spreading on toast etc. and I try and always use a similar amount (without weighing every time). For humous I would scan it in and measure out a tablespoon or whatever and register that in the app (I use nutracheck).

Daisy829 · 19/01/2022 19:30

Thanks everyone. We’ve done well to be fair as this is the first time it’s hit us.

MushMonster · 19/01/2022 21:14

Glad to hear that they got no symptoms, or mild ones Daisy.

Another day done here.
30 min jog, 15 min rowing.

Tomorrow, I got rice, broccoli and chipolata sausages for lunch, but I have not decided what to have for breakfast and lunch. Going to work on it now!

MushMonster · 19/01/2022 21:25

Breakfast ham on toast, hard boiled egg, dinner avocado and bean salad

MushMonster · 19/01/2022 21:26

I am going to copy some of the meal plans from the vegan website someone posted early in the thread. Sometimes I do not know what to eat!

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 19/01/2022 21:36

Today we had:

Breakfast - banana oat pancakes with raspberries, banana and a drizzle of maple syrup

Lunch - PoN spring veg soup with one slice of bread, apple

Dinner - Jamie Oliver crazy simple fish pie with steamed leeks

Snacks - packet of crisps

Around 200 cals to spare which I'm banking for the weekend. Also went for a run and did a core class.

User7853367 · 20/01/2022 10:01

I scoop out my butter/soft cheese or whatever in a tablespoon and butter from that. About 10g does a normal slice of bread. If I'm having a bagel with cream cheese I use 1 tbsp per slice as I like it nice and thick. Same with mayo or ketchup.

User7853367 · 20/01/2022 10:02

If people are worried about getting their steps up WFH there are step workouts on YouTube that are great. Fit With Rick is one, you can do up to 6000 steps.

kirinm · 20/01/2022 10:19

I managed to keep to 1500 calories yesterday for the first time in absolutely ages. I really hope seeing the scales yesterday was the push I needed to make long term changes.

MushMonster · 20/01/2022 19:43

Another day done!
I changed my plan as a meal turned up yielding 3 portions instead of one, so I had prawn and noodles with pak choi and a smoothie for dinner.
Tomorrow, breakfast cheese and ham on toast, noodles extra portion, and a burger with cheese and salad (no bread involved here!), plus another smoothie.
And I will be going to the gym.Smile

Weighed today and stayed the same despite being 1000 calories in the green for the week. It's probably just water weight so staying on track and remembering that this is a lifestyle change not a diet and I'm doing all the right things so the weight will come off.

Well done for staying positive!
User7853367 · 21/01/2022 08:34

It's annoying though, hopefully a good loss next week

Daisy829 · 21/01/2022 09:38

Weigh in today. 9lb down in total so average 3lb a week which I’m happy with. So happy I treated myself to some toast. Not just any old toast though….the crust from a thick warbies loaf. Yummy 🤣

Yeah I would be fuming as well and it would probably make me binge.

Do you have much to lose?

User7853367 · 21/01/2022 11:03

I'm currently 13st 3lbs and my target is 11st (or thereabouts) when I started I was 14st 2lbs. I'm 5ft 7 so just want to get my BMI into the healthy zone, I'm worried about being overweight and the health implications as I get older.

Thanks. I haven't got tablespoons, only dessert spoons and I just use a knife. I hope I'd be OK to estimate about 20g.

Hello again everyone

Well, after two weeks of dieting and putting on 2kg (!!!!!!!) I have now seen a loss of 1.3kg 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼 I’m pleased I’ve actually lost something so feeling focused.

I made some really nice balls of goji berries, cacao nibs, cashews and dates. Healthy and keeping my chocolate cravings at bay! I’ve managed to resist biscuits, Dominos, fish & chips and chocolate bars this week.

@Daisy829 How’s the running going? Well done on your losses that you’ve mentioned a few days back

@User7853367 hang in there. I completely appreciate how frustrating it is to diet and not lose but it will come off. You’re right as well - it is a lifestyle change.

Hope everyone else is well. X

Daisy829 · 21/01/2022 14:49

@MotherMole the running is going great. I’ve been again today & did 30 mins. I’m no where near 5k in that time but I’ll just build up my speed & stamina.
How are you doing?

MotherMole · 21/01/2022 15:36

@Daisy829 Well done for doing 30 minutes. That’s such a good amount of time. You’ll find you’ll easily be able to run longer if you stick with it.

I’m doing well thanks 😊 . Resisting unhealthy food. Eating really healthy dinners. I’ve managed to get out for a couple of runs and starting HIIT training in a bid to change things up a bit and hopefully shift the weight.

Weekends are always the hardest for me but I’m feeling quite determined and optimistic.

Daisy829 · 21/01/2022 15:48

I’m feeling quite motivated at the moment so I need to max it out whilst I can as I’m sure there will be times when I’m less inclined to get out there!
I’m looking forward to the day when I’m another 11lb down then I’ll be half way there. I’m hoping to get to that point by the end of feb.
