Calorie counting for the new year, anyone want to join?

Hello :)
I have a 11lbs to lose, and planning on calorie counting as it’s worked well for me in the past. I’ll be using Nutracheck and on 1450 calories a day. I really need accountability so I’m planning to post my calories and meals each evening, and weigh in every Thursday starting tomorrow.

I’d love some company!
Happy to talk to myself if not though (and I fully expect I will be as it’s a bit of a boring thread 😂).

I was planning to start on the 1st but due to being absolutely disgusted with how much I’ve eaten over Christmas I’m starting tomorrow instead Grin

I’m also planning a general lifestyle improvement - much less time on my phone, and some kind of exercise every day.

Good luck to anyone else looking to lose weight in the new year! 💪

Yeah I was thinking about YouTube classes. I’ve managed 5.5k so far and worn out the dog so that’s not bad going. It’s quite nice out there today actually.

Daisy829 · 26/01/2022 12:51

Keep going @WhatWouldTheDoctorDo it’s probably mainly bloating.

Milliways · 26/01/2022 16:44

DH and I try to go for a local walk every evening after dinner, but it’s soooo cold I always need a LOT of coaxing, but it is a time we can chat properly and it does get my steps in as I am deskbound at work all day.

Weighing daily here, it’s interesting to watch the fluctuations, but have had another small overall loss in the last week.

We are away visiting family this weekend so the third weekend in a row that is not diet friendly, but at least the weekdays are keeping on track, so better that than nothing.

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 26/01/2022 16:49

Oh it's horrible here, and cold and windy. It put me off going for a run. Just trying to force myself to do a class now.

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 26/01/2022 16:51

DH and I normally do a daily lunchtime walk as still WFH here but it was too cold for that too @Milliways

Weekends are hard, I try to bank something calories during the week to give me a cushion at the weekend.

MushMonster · 26/01/2022 20:43

Same here, lots of work to do so I did not get to the gym this week yet. I hope to manage tomorrow, and the weekend, but still lots to do at work, so we shall see.
Doing ok with the counting.
Tomorrow I got muesli with soya or oat milk, grilled chicken with crispy kale and salad, and roast peppers with salmon.
I got some calories left, so I am thinking of a yummy fruit smoothie when I get back from work.

MushMonster · 26/01/2022 20:47

I also got extra motivation to go to the gym. Once upon a time five months ago I bought some leggings from Fabletics. So apparently through the process of buying from them I got a VIP subscription. I had no idea, so they took 5 x £49 from my account, during this 5 months. So I bought 5 two pieces outfits before cancelling the subscription as they would not refund.
I now have to wear them!
I have worn one to the gym so far, and one to try on today.

I gave in and weighed myself. A slightly disappointing 6lb loss in 24 days. My clothes feel loads loser though so im hoping my scales are wrong. BMI gone from 29.8 to 28.7. A loss is a loss I suppose

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 26/01/2022 23:14

Sounds pretty good to me @addictedtotheflats - that's just under 2lbs a week?

Get those leggings worn @MushMonster!

Daisy829 · 27/01/2022 08:53

@addictedtotheflats that’s a great loss. In another 24 days that’s nearly a stone. Well done.
Even though I’ve still got a decent way to go, that feeling of my clothes being a bit better and not feeling sluggish shouldn’t be taken for granted. Use that as your motivation x

Gwenhwyfar · 27/01/2022 18:44

Hi, is there a way of working out how much food a tupperware contains. I've been batch cooking. I realise I could measure jugs of water, but it wouldn't be the same would it? Unfortunately, my kitchen scale is really small so I can't use that.

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 27/01/2022 19:15

I would work out calories for whole recipe @Gwenhwyfar and divide into equal portions e.g. if the recipe says serves 6 or whatever and then put into tubs, marking on freezer label how many portions and how many calories per portion. Would that work?

I bought a batch of cheap plastic containers on Amazon (500 ml and 750 ml) and they are perfect for 2-3 portions of most things.

I don't have enough tubs for that or space in the fridge really (no freezer) so I'm just guessing at the moment. I suppose I could weight the empty tub, then weigh with the food in, then weight an empty plate and weigh the food on the plate and I'll know how many grams are in each portion and then what proportion it is of it all? I have to buy a bigger scale then.
Daisy829 · 28/01/2022 07:57

2 off for me this week so 11 in total. Only 1st 6lb to go!

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 28/01/2022 10:15

Well done @Daisy829! I had a cheeky hop on the scales this morning, and a wee bit lower than I was on my Wednesday weigh in day so hopefully that bodes well for next week.

I've lost 4lbs this week. I was hoping for more but that is with no exercise and I probably barely hit 10k steps the entire week. Next week I'm going to start adding in exercise.

Daisy829 · 28/01/2022 11:59

@kirinm that’s amazing well done! I too have done minimal steps this week so I was pleased with 2
Hoping for 3 next week
Well done @whatwouldthedoctordo any loss is a step in the right direction

I’ve just spent half an hour going through my clothes and finally admitting there are some things my body will never squeeze into. Some stuff is brand new so I’ve listed it on Vinted. In other good news I’ve tried on the gorgeous Gina bacconi dress that I purchased for a wedding I’m attending in the summer. It’s a size 12 and I can now do it up but with another stone off it’s going to look soooo much better.

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 28/01/2022 13:00

Well done @kirinm! A gorgeous dress is a great incentive @Daisy829

A wardrobe clearout is always good. I kept a bunch of clothes a while back but when I could fit in them comfortably again I didn't like them on - change in body shape, slightly dated cut or I just didn't like them any more.

Daisy829 · 28/01/2022 13:58

Yeah change in body shape has definitely happened to me and also need to admit that I’m never going to be where I was in my 30s. I just want to get healthy again and feel better about myself.

Daisy829 · 29/01/2022 12:20

Boooo decided to treat myself to a hot cross bun this morning and I couldn’t taste it. Literally the only symptom I’ve had & started on day 4.

motherofawhirlwind · 30/01/2022 12:43

@Gwenhwyfar I put my knife on the scales, turn them on, scoop out the butter, weigh and then spread. Bit of a faff but worked out how much I was generally using and then logged that.

Darbs76 · 30/01/2022 14:54

Hi all, joining in! I started my diet on 3rd Jan so final weigh in for January tomorrow and currently on 4.6lbs. I’ve worked so hard for that. 50 odd miles walking a week, 1000 cals deficit most days but it comes off so slowly for me. But it all adds up.

Gwenhwyfar · 30/01/2022 18:40

Thanks mother. I could do that a few times and I'll have a better idea. Need to buy good kitchen scales now.

User7853367 · 31/01/2022 15:05

I didn't lose any weight again. Feeling disheartened by the whole thing. I've changed my activity levels to the lowest they can be so my calories have gone down to 1700. I'm seriously considering WW as I lost every week on that. I've always found it pretty easy to lose weight this has never happened to me.
