Mutual support thread for people with a lot of weight to lose. Part III

alphaechokiwi · 10/10/2021 18:29

This is a mutual support thread for people who have a lot of weight to lose. The original thread started with a poster who wanted to lose 9 stone and has evolved from diet advice to offering each other mutual long term support. Most of us have started in the morbid obese range or with a BMI in the high 30's (ish).
Everyone is welcome, regardless of where you are on your 'journey'. We have some inspiring stories. But also lots of us are muddling along, sometimes doing well and sometimes not so well.
We're all at different points. Some have lost lots of weight and are now maintaining. Others part way through a big weight loss and others starting out. We try to offer encouragement, congratulations or consolations where needed. We are respectful of different approaches and recognise that everyone has their own unique set of circumstances.

Good luck @Rebuildingconfidence , you can do it!

Roussette · 09/12/2021 16:26

You're nearly there Rebuilding Good luck!

alphaechokiwi · 09/12/2021 17:41

Hi @WeightlossKin - it's nice to hear from you. December is so difficult with parties. I don't have an answer. I've got two coming up. I've just decided to take things day by day and not stress out too much about them in advance. I've offered to be the driver so that I won't be drinking. That way I more likely not to pig out completely. Apart from that I'm going to take it as it comes. If I eat party food, so be it. I'll enjoy it and move on.
@ScottishBeth - I hope you have a lovely weekend and look fabulous in your new clothes.
@Rebuildingconfidence - I'm sure you'll do it!

ScottishBeth · 10/12/2021 16:23

@Roussette - it must have felt amazing wearing that dress! Well done!

@Rebuildingconfidence you are so close! I have faith in you!

@alphaechokiwi thank you. The tip about not drinking is a good one! The point about just dealing with it if (when?) you indulge is so important too!

84.5kg this morning. That's a 400g loss since Saturday. I'm pretty happy. It's unlikely I'm going to meet the target of down to 81.4kg before Christmas, but I'm not worried about that. It was a pretty arbitrary target.

alphaechokiwi · 11/12/2021 07:55

Well I weighed myself this morning for the first time since I started low carb. I'm horrified with nearly a 3kg gain in under 3 weeks😱😱😱. I'm gutted... Lesson learned, low carb, amazing for my joints, but not so good for weightloss. Back to fasting for me....

OP posts:
Roussette · 11/12/2021 09:08

Oh how disappointing for you alpha. It's a balancing act isn't it....

I do have one day a week when I probably eat less than 1,000 calories. I'm not recommending this for anyone, because it might not suit other people, but it does work for me.
My DD talked to me about looking at the week as a whole, as opposed to the up and down of worrying about daily consumption.

WeightlossKin · 11/12/2021 09:23

@alphaechokiwi are you drinking enough water? People keep telling me I need to drink loads of water when doing low carb, even more so than other times. How frustrating for you!

WeightlossKin · 11/12/2021 09:24

I also do a low calorie day @Roussette just to drive and give me and extra boost and because it's only a case of skipping breakfast and not having any snacks and a slightly smaller lunch, which isn't easy but doesn't seem that unhealthy a choice?

Roussette · 11/12/2021 10:56

Yes WeightlossKin.
I do mine on a Wednesday or Thursday because I weigh once a week on Thursday or Friday Grin
As you say... a boost. A feel good day for me. I try and do a long walk on that day too!
I've just walked 2.5 miles now but come home for coffee and a crumpet Shock Grin

wombatsandstuff · 13/12/2021 14:20

Well after almost a week off the gym, and 5 days in London, I have lost 1.2kg. So I am now 159.6kg. So I’m in the 150s. Woo. Go me. Didn’t think I would get there this week but I’m super pleased.

SnowyMouse · 13/12/2021 16:19

Well done @wombatsandstuff ! That's excellent. I've got a weigh in tomorrow, but wont have lost much.

SnowyMouse · 14/12/2021 07:09

Here's my weigh in, don't think I'll make my Christmas goal:

SW: 14 stone 4
CW: 13 stone 2 (week 15, 14 dec, 0.75 loss)
GW: 13 stone 0 (Christmas)

Roussette · 14/12/2021 07:12

You can do it Snowy ! Well done, on your loss. I bet you feel better for it.

I would love to make my goal weight by Christmas. But it's 2.5lbs to go so really... I don't know what I'm talking about, because I doubt I'll make mine. 🤣

alphaechokiwi · 14/12/2021 08:27

@SnowyMouse, well done on another great loss. If you aren't exactly 13 stone by the 25th, you'll be within a cat's whisker of it!
@wombatsandstuff congrats - 1.2kg is amazing.
@ScottishBeth - 400g is nearly 1/2 a kg. Which is actually a pretty decent loss!! Well done.
@Roussette - if you don't hit your target by Christmas, I'd say it will be shortly afterwards...

OP posts:
SnowyMouse · 14/12/2021 08:35

Thanks @alphaechokiwi - I want to try to be careful over Christmas so I don't put on too much, but that may go out of the window....

alphaechokiwi · 14/12/2021 08:38

I was absolutely gutted when I weighed on Saturday. The gain pushed me back into the obese range which I'd worked so hard to drop out of😭.
It was unexpected because I'd done everything by the book, including gallons of water. I should have kept a closer eye on the scales in hindsight.

I'm back to intermittent fasting and doing fine. I know this works for me. It's not been a fruitless exercise as I've learned that a low carb diet dramatically alleviates my lingering knee and hip pain and I'll work on finding a good balance on that in the new year.
It's probably too much to hope for to get back under a BMI of 30 by Christmas, day but I hope I'll be close.

OP posts:
SnowyMouse · 14/12/2021 14:29

I'll keep fingers crossed for you, @alphaechokiwi It's so frustrating when that happens.

alphaechokiwi · 14/12/2021 14:33

Thanks @SnowyMouse

Rebuildingconfidence · 18/12/2021 08:13

I didn't make my goal unfortunately, STS!

29/10 104
28/11 103
9/12 101
18/12 101

I will keep going though! Hopefully we can all support each other to keep exercising and keep making healthy / relatively healthier choices through the Xmas period.

I know it isn't easy with so much temptation around!

ScottishBeth · 18/12/2021 17:22

@alphaechokiwi how disappointing! I'm so sorry. I hope you find a balance. And maybe your hips don't start feeling worse again now you're back to eating carbs? The extra weight will come back off, though.

@wombatsandstuff that's a brilliant loss! Well done!

@SnowyMouse well done on your loss as well. And if you don't meet your goal by Christmas you'll get there soon after.

@Rebuildingconfidence a STS can be frustrating, but you're still doing really well.

I was 85kg exactly this morning, which is a 0.5kg gain. I am actually delighted! I indulged a lot last weekend, takeaway, pub meal out, alcohol, cake, and other not very healthy meals. But since then I've made the effort to eat well so I will lose again. And that's obviously working.

I was thinking that what's going well for me is that even though I'm not losing loads at the moment I'm still keeping going. And I think that's how it's going to work. Aiming for a healthy week this week!

Roussette · 18/12/2021 18:32

It's so hard at Christmas, my fridge is already packed with all the stuff I love (cheeses, bacon, fizz, and everything fattening!)

Keep going everyone, let's indulge a bit, enjoy Christmas and keep going as much as we can! Xmas Smile

SnowyMouse · 18/12/2021 18:44

Hugs @Rebuildingconfidence

Thanks @ScottishBeth , I'll have too much nice food over Christmas - already planned to have Chinese on the 23rd. I'm expecting to put on.

alphaechokiwi · 19/12/2021 06:50

Good morning everyone.
@Rebuildingconfidence you were very close. December is a tough month, so a STS seems like a win really!
@ScottishBeth it really sounds like you're in a good place with it all. And we're surrounded by temptation at the moment so 0.5kg isn't a lot at all
.
I obviously! ditched the low carb and returned to my reliable fasting pattern this week. And I'm apparently down 2.2kg 🤣.I weighed in at exactly 80kg this morning. Now I had a very good week and stuck mostly to plan, but it's not actually possible to lose that amount of fat in one week..... So presumably I had a lot of water retention. Whatever was going on, I've still a few kgs to lose to get to my previous low of 77kg or even the 79kg I'd crept back up to. I'm hoping for another decent week this week. Another 1/2 kg loss will drop me back under a BMI of 30. I'm a bit frustrated with myself that I'm back at this milestone that I hit in the summer, but am determined to learn from the past few months and keep going. I'll have a few days off over Christmas though!
My hips are aching again though...I just can't low carb and fast.... it's too much.
Wishing you all a great week!

OP posts:
ScottishBeth · 19/12/2021 10:20

@alphaechokiwi that is so strange. And you must be right, it must have been water. I bet that was a relief having a big loss! But I know it's frustrating hovering around the same weight for ages. But you're still here, that's a lot! Imagine if you'd get frustrated and given up, you'd have gone way up, rather than staying at a much healthier weight than before.

And yes, a few days off over Christmas is not unreasonable.

Oh yes, alpha, it was my birthday last weekend. So I planned for some indulgence.

alphaechokiwi · 19/12/2021 16:11

@ScottishBeth HAPPY BIRTHDAY 🎉
