Mutual support thread for people with a lot of weight to lose. Part III

alphaechokiwi · 10/10/2021 18:29

This is a mutual support thread for people who have a lot of weight to lose. The original thread started with a poster who wanted to lose 9 stone and has evolved from diet advice to offering each other mutual long term support. Most of us have started in the morbid obese range or with a BMI in the high 30's (ish).
Everyone is welcome, regardless of where you are on your 'journey'. We have some inspiring stories. But also lots of us are muddling along, sometimes doing well and sometimes not so well.
We're all at different points. Some have lost lots of weight and are now maintaining. Others part way through a big weight loss and others starting out. We try to offer encouragement, congratulations or consolations where needed. We are respectful of different approaches and recognise that everyone has their own unique set of circumstances.

Sorry again I forgot to change my name back lol

ScottishBeth · 13/02/2022 10:19

Haha @Wombatsandstuff! But that's amazing! Well done!

I've had a gain this week. Of about 400g (I think). I'm not too concerned though. I'm pretty sure some of it is water weight.

Actually I was thinking this week that I feel like I'm in control of my eating. Maybe for the first time ever. The weight is only coming off very slowly, but I feel good about what I'm eating, and about myself in general. I'm really pleased.

Adm1010 · 14/02/2022 17:05

Hi hoping I can jump into this thread . I’ve not read back yet but I intend to .

I post on the freedom thread to support my alcohol free life ( been AF now for over 5 months ) but now feel ready to look at my weight and overall health hope that’s ok

Weight wise I have around 6 stone to lose . My lifestyle is pretty unhealthy and I need to get the reins on my eating .

My goals to start are three meals a day . Increasing fruit and veg . Cutting out unhealthy snacks . I don’t do “ dieting “ but want to change my lifestyle slowly over time whilst reducing weight .

Currently I do hardly any exercise and today I got chest pains and very out of breath walking up a relatively gentle slope!! Not good ! So my exercise goal it to walk each day , my job is fairly sedentary so this will be a challenge .

Roussette · 15/02/2022 06:43

Hello again all and welcome @Adm1010

Yes, I think this thread is not just losing weight but about us gaining some sort of control on our lives. And I join you as a walker... it's been a lifesaver for me, weight wise and during lockdowns. I logged my walking when I started January 2020 and looking back, I barely managed a mile or so. I can now knock off 5 miles with ease (I can't quite believe that!)
So Adm do just try the walking, and if you have a day where you only walk a short distance, don't worry, there's always another day, that's what I thought anyway! And I always had a day off if the weather was really dire, and caught up again next day. Good luck!

Well done everyone else here on their STS, weight losses and only tiny gains!
I've been away for 2 weeks. I know without doubt I've piled it on... (no excuses, just an eating and drinking holiday!)
However, I've been too scared to get on the scales, I am going to go for a walk (if the rain stops) then weigh, then get my head round it and get a grip!

Good luck everyone 🥰

Adm1010 · 15/02/2022 07:50

Thankyou rousette.
I’m in work today . So I’m here now till 6 . This is when I know I need to fit something in but how and when?

Feeling positive today . Not faced the scales yet . Maybe tomorrow morning ….

Roussette · 15/02/2022 08:09

Oh, yes, Adm, walking is time consuming. And it's pouring with rain here. Fitting in something/anything is sometimes hard!

Adm1010 · 15/02/2022 11:45

I’m just trying to move more at work! Anything better than nothing !

Adm1010 · 16/02/2022 06:47

Ok so faced the scales . It was a lot worse than I thought . Upset but motivated to make some changes .

I don’t feel able to post my weight …. Maybe another day .

Wombatsandstuff · 16/02/2022 12:10

Well, I only lost 300g over the past two weeks. That was on Monday. But anyways at least I didn’t gain.

Also for ball slams I’m now going to the floor and using a 12kg ball. And for box squats I’m now holding a 10 kg plate. So wooooo.

Wombatsandstuff · 16/02/2022 12:11

I’m now I’m away to Vienna for a week.

Roussette · 16/02/2022 13:13

Adm1010

Facing the scales is the first step. I used to weigh in kg because I didn't really understand them!

One day I changed the scales to stones and lbs.
I was completely and utterly shocked.
But that was the start of it for me.

ScottishBeth · 16/02/2022 20:02

Hi everyone.

@Roussette I hope you had an amazing holiday! Even super healthy people indulge sometimes, it's fine to have some time like that on holiday! The important thing is not being derailed overall. Unfortunately also the hardest thing!

Welcome @Adm1010! It sounds like you have a really sensible plan, and also well done on being alcohol free for 5 months! Walking is really good, but can be hard to fit in. I also feel like it might not be the best time to start, with the weather the way it is! Are you able to go out for 15 or 20 minutes on your lunch break? But not tomorrow!

@Wombatsandstuff I don't know what any of those things mean, but it sounds like you're doing well at the gym? Haha! Have a lovely time in Vienna!

I've just had a positive mental shift I think. I do a sport which is quite like gymnastics (I am a beginner though, please don't think I'm good!) Anyhow today I saw some pictures of me and in one of them I'm upside down and my top had moved so my belly was out. My first thought was that I don't want to show people that but then I decided that this is my body, and there's no need to hide something like that. What I was doing was impressive and my friends won't care that my belly's out. I of course do want to lose weight (quite a lot), but I guess I'm pleased that I realised I don't need to feel ashamed of my body how it is.

I'm going on holiday in just under 4 weeks. I'm intending on focussing really hard before then. I'll still have some treats, but no huge meals, alcohol, or anything like that. Hopefully I'll lose a bit before then.

Roussette · 16/02/2022 20:34

ScottishBeth Hi! Yes great hols.

Self hate of our bodies really does us no good, we have to be critical because that spurs us on, but not hate.

Upside down? Ye gods, I couldn't do that in a million years. well done!

ScottishBeth · 19/02/2022 09:20

@Roussette thank you!

I weighed in today and had a 500g loss from last week, which puts me back to my lowest weight, 84.3kg. I'm pretty pleased with that. Of course I would have liked a bigger loss, but slow and steady wins the race, and all that!

Roussette · 19/02/2022 10:16

That's brilliant ScottishBeth what a boost for you.

Slow and steady wins the race!

After two weeks of eating and drinking in vast quantities, I put on 2lb. I expected it to be more like 12lb. So I'm delighted by that and working on it!

ScottishBeth · 19/02/2022 11:14

Fab news @Roussette. That 2lb will come off in no time.

Rebuildingconfidence · 20/02/2022 09:53

Hello,

Quick check in to say I have lost another kilo.

29/10 104
28/11 103
9/12 101
18/12 101
2/01 99
31/01 97
20/02 96

I checked and I have 21kgs to lose to get out of the obese BMI category. I won't lie, that has taken the wind out of my sails. But at least I am heading in the right direction.

I am not really exercising, but my relationship with food is resetting. I really don't eat as much as I used to. My meals are smaller and I think this is key, I don't eat until I am stuffed. I am also fine with being hungry. It doesn't seem to trigger me into binges the way it did in the past.

It's interesting to reflect.

Adm1010 · 20/02/2022 12:56

Can’t seem to get my head going but I will keep reflecting and posting

Roussette · 21/02/2022 09:01

Please do Adm1010.... sometimes it only takes one thought, one sentence from someone else to be that moment that changes things

GreatBigBeautifulTommorow · 21/02/2022 18:53

Can I join please?
Was previously on the old 100lb plus to lose threads and lost 70lbs with support from a dietician friend.
Friend moved countries, Covid hit and I dealt with the work stress and anxiety by eating.

I probably have around 10stones to lose but would settle for a couple to start!

Motivations are my back/ankles/hips hurt
I snore like a PIG
I’m a bad example at work
I look hideous
I’m unhealthy
Have a much longed for holiday booked for Dec and want to not have to worry about not fitting on stuff!

I’ve joined hello fresh as meals are portioned and have veg etc ( I have the eating habits of a giant toddler)
No post tea snacking
Going to write everything in a food diary.
Wish me luck please!

Roussette · 21/02/2022 19:17

@GreatBigBeautifulTommorow

Welcome!

Sounds like a good start. To me, even thinking about tackling weight is a start.

I used MyFitnessPal app as it got me being more aware of what I was putting in my mouth.

And it worked for me. Plus walking. I'm still up and down but I have lost over 3 stones and most of the time I'm on track (not always)

I feel so much more healthy than I was. As far as me... once I started losing some weight, it just spurred me on. I hope that can work for you too.

Good luck Smile

GreatBigBeautifulTommorow · 21/02/2022 19:36

Thankyou @Roussette
I find I need to avoid calorie counting as have a history of disordered eating and it triggers binge starve cycle but thankyou for the tip.
Amazing weight loss, hope I can join you Flowers

I’ve recently moved work buildings so have an extra 10 min walk twice a day so hoping that helps.

Roussette · 21/02/2022 20:17

I get that greatBigBeautifulTomorrow... I don't count now, it just sort of put me on the right path.

Every bit of walking helps I think. I have to really push myself to do it, but it has helped (when I get my arse into gear!)

Adm1010 · 22/02/2022 08:00

Morning all .

Been giving thought to my patterns . And where to start really . I definitely eat when I’m not hungry . I eat to PREEMPT hunger!! Does that make sense or familiar to anyone . I think I’m scared to be hungry ! So I eat .
If it gets to around 9am and I’ve not eaten breakfast I’ll start worrying that I will GET hungry even if I’m not actually hungry at that point … so I eat . Confused

Roussette · 22/02/2022 08:11

Morning!

Yes, it does make sense, my overeating was a mixture of habit and boredom.

Have you thought about 16/8? It's what worked for me but I've never been a breakfast fan particularly. Here's a link. I hate the word 'fasting', I don't think of it as fasting really.

So it's first meal of the day early lunch then later on... evening meal and that's it.

Just a thought... we have to do what's best for our minds and bodies and what works for some, won't work for others etc.
