Anyone up for sorting themselves out?

I really need to sort myself out. I look and feel a mess, hardly any of my clothes fit me.

I've had enough of feeling this way so have decided to do something about it.

Just hit my 50's and want to get back into doing my hair and make up and looking after myself.

A couple of stones need to be lost, I am about to get on the scales. It's been a long time coming 😁

Today is day one for me. I need to lose four stones. Seems unsurmountable but I have had enough! Logging everything on MFP.

recklessgran · 19/10/2021 18:37

Ah welcome @MagpieMary. You'll get lots of support here - we're all doing our best to help each other along. What are you planning to do diet wise - are you counting calories, low carbing or something else?
Today is my weigh day and thanks to my 2 day carb fest I can report that I have only lost 1lb in my first week of low carbing. Oh well, it's my own fault entirely and at least a tiny step in the right direction. I've been good since Sunday!

Indiekid84 · 19/10/2021 18:50

Welcome @MagpieMary, I have just over 4 stone left to lose too! It's sounds a lot but we can do it! @recklessgran 1lb is still a loss and a step in the right direction 🙂 keep going and be proud of every lb gone x

DuvetDayIsEveryDay · 19/10/2021 19:17

Also late to the party!

Read the whole thread and it's seems everyone is doing well !

I'm low carbing (and cut out crap). Started on the 2nd Sept and have had a 10 day holiday in that time. No idea how much I've lost as I don't own scales but on the 2nd of Sept I went to the GP and they weighed me and o was horrified.

I can be bothered to calorie count or weigh food so low carbon suits me. I don't get too caught up in the small details (ie strawberries are lower carbs than a banana) I just stick to the no bread, pasta, rice, potatoes or crap or otherwise I become obsessive with it all.

My typical day is:

B: yogurt, berries, banana and mixed nuts.

L: either a veg omelette or vegetables with hummus. Took a detor today and had grilled hallomi and asparagus.

D: meat and vegetables or salad.

Nice to meet you all and I hope we can encourage each other.

ginslinger · 19/10/2021 19:24

can I join? I reached a weight that was my top weight, never to be exceeded and now I'm 2 kilos above that so I have to lose those 2 kilos and really could do with a few more too. I'm flabby and don't look great and my clothes are all too tight. I only need to lose a few kilos and it will be ok but it is so bloody hard. [wails]

MagpieMary · 19/10/2021 22:19

Something worth pondering. I’ve just come back from Greece. I ate LOADS of food whilst away but probably 90 percent was fruit and veg with some cheese, with very little meat. I ate bread a couple of times and felt ill afterwards. I’ve come back and put on maybe a couple of pounds . I ate puddings several times and drank a few cocktails and wine. I can’t believe I haven’t gained a LOT more. There’s something to be learned from that. I

recklessgran · 20/10/2021 00:12

@MagpieMary yes, I really get this. It's carbs I'm afraid. For me they are the work of the devil and addictive to boot. If you can stay off them for a week you will get your appetite under control and the weight will come off - It's tough but it does work. I'm trying to get myself in the zone......

MagpieMary · 20/10/2021 06:55

Yes I agree. I lost two stones easily a long time ago cutting right back in carbs. I felt so much better. Unfortunately fruit and veg just doesn’t taste the same in this country/

teacake89 · 20/10/2021 07:02

Bit late, but I would love to join. I have 3 stone to lose and need to find a way to keep myself accountable. I have a really sweet tooth and just snack on the biggest pile of rubbish. I'm also an emotional eater, and after a stressful few years the weight has just crept up. Today I'm going to cut out all snacking and try and only eat 3 low calories meals. Good luck everybody!

Katrinawaves · 20/10/2021 13:48

I’ve managed to lose 3lb since I started a week ago by cutting out snacks between meals and second helpings. Still another 2.5 stones to go however! I’ve been reading a book about Appetite Retraining and trying to follow its suggestions.

Sounds interesting.

I have tried a longer workout at lunchtime and was very alarmed how the extra weight affected it!

DuvetDayIsEveryDay · 20/10/2021 17:56

I cant exercise as I'm disabled but when I cut out carbs weight comes off so easily.

I bought a pair of jeans 6 weeks ago for holiday and they got stuck at the top of my thighs. They fitted yesterday !

DaisyNGO · 20/10/2021 18:52

Well done Duvet.

DaisyNGO · 20/10/2021 21:33

Ended up having a much healthier and lighter dinner than planned due to confusion over fridge stock and use by dates 😂

My fault but probably worked out well for me.

I will NOT eat toast at midnight. Someone please check with me tomorrow...?

TripleTipplePipple · 20/10/2021 22:06

I am officially on self destruct, not having a great week and every night I seem to go to bed feeling like crap because I eat so much theb can't get comfortable. Has any one got any idea how to change mindset so I try and look after myself a bit more? I'm trying to be a bit more organised so I'm on top of things and not rushing around like a loon. Because with that comes over eating and eating rubbish/drinking to much. I just feel like a slow moving lump at the moment and it's horrible.

DaisyNGO · 20/10/2021 22:29

Triple
Are you eating as a sort of stress soothing activity?

If so, would something like knitting or a colouring book help?

It's a running joke here that I often have a knitted nothing on the go. I guess it will become a scarf eventually!

But when I don't do something like that before bed, I'm more likely to eat.

Katrinawaves · 20/10/2021 22:34

@TripleTipplePipple maybe the approach I’ve been using would work for you. It’s all explained on this website. Basically you can eat whatever you like provided you only eat if you are at -3 out of 5 on the appetite pendulum and stop when you are at +3. I’ve only been doing this for a week but have seen good results. I’m also an emotional eater so having to check my hunger level and eat mindfully has really helped with recognising that.

TripleTipplePipple · 21/10/2021 06:16

@DaisyNGO yes I think I am. Plus now it's getting darker in the evenings the evening just feels so long. I might try and get out for a swim a few evenings a week. I bordum eat but if I've had a busy/stressful day I comfort eat. It's always big portions of meals and crisps/chocolate. I can't seem to kick the mindset that I 'need' these things.

@katrinawaves I'll have a look thank you. I'm definitely noticing that I rarely feel hungry because I'm always eating.

DaisyNGO · 21/10/2021 10:59

I ate toast at midnight
I wasn't hungry, just felt odd after a light dinner.

Argh. I think to write a plan, though that's boring.

NoraLuka · 21/10/2021 17:45

@DaisyNGO never mind, with the light dinner it was probably equivalent to a normal meal so maybe it won’t have made much difference?

I bought a bar of dark chocolate and have a couple of squares of that now and then. It’s been almost a week and I still have half the bar left, and I haven’t been eating anything else outside of mealtimes, so maybe this is an ok thing to do. I’m trying to replace bad habits with good habits that I can keep up. Sick of being super healthy for a week and then going right back to normal.

Ploughing on with couch to 5K. Have found that I miss yoga when I skip it for a couple of days!

Not smoked since Sunday, I think that’s my biggest achievement tbh.

Happy Thursday evening everyone!

DaisyNGO · 21/10/2021 18:41

Nora, that's really good, well done!

I'm going to have to rethink my workouts, embarrassingly, I think my knees are not happy.

One lady at work went from no exercise to easy yoga, then she found she lost weight due to just being more mindful and is now doing couch to 4k. We are very similar in height and were similar in size but she tells me she's lost more than a stone since the start of August.

I'm also thinking to try the headspace app. I tried it before but for extreme stress. Wasn't for me but that was a long time ago and it should be easier to settle my mind now than when I was hugely stressed...

DuvetDayIsEveryDay · 21/10/2021 19:54

Well done for not smoking since Sunday.. thats massive!

I'm plodding along nicely. It is a bit boring but I plan all meals but I do end up seeing food as fuel and not necessarily eating to fill a hole.

recklessgran · 21/10/2021 20:00

Evening all. I've been on and off the wagon all week on account of a [very big] family upset. Blinking bread again - the equivalent of carb crack! I ALWAYS eat my emotions and really need to work on this. Never mind, I'll stay right here and keep trying. @NoraLuka I'm so impressed with you giving up smoking like that. I gave up several years ago whilst going on holiday. I smoked my last cig outside the airport on the way out and have never smoked again. I had tried before unsuccessfully but decided to try the holiday method as it was different routines/habits abroad. So glad it worked and I've got everything crossed for you. It's so, so hard but doing it alongside trying to lose weight is really hardcore! @DaisyNGO my fellow bread fanatic. Midnight toast is THE best - especially with marmite and washed down with a lovely mug of tea. You're amazing with your couch to 5K. I haven't even got up off the couch yet.....

DaisyNGO · 21/10/2021 20:17

Reckless "You're amazing with your couch to 5K. I haven't even got up off the couch yet....."

Neither have I, it's Nora who has done that.

I have to downgrade my exercise as it's too much with all my extra fat ☹️

DaisyNGO · 22/10/2021 20:43

How's everyone doing?

I think I finally hit the right balance but have to get through to bedtime before I can say that.
