6 week blitz starting tomorrow

BasinHaircut · 27/06/2021 17:49

I’m simply starting this thread for myself as a diary.

I’m hovering around 12st 1-3lbs ish. I’d like to hover at 11stones-something in 6 weeks time, so nothing major.

All I’m going to do is the following:

  1. Stick to under 1600 calories per day
  2. Walk for an hour each day
  3. Resistance train 4 times per week

I should be able to do this easily but I need some accountability (with the food!) so here I am!

I have 4 social occasions during this time that may lead to not sticking to 1600 calories on those days but I am ok with that. I will just do my best on those days, accept what they are, and not let them lead to throwing in the towel altogether.

If anyone would like to join me they are very welcome!

@BasinHaircut can I jump in and ask for your mince & rice recipe? That sounds lovely and I need pre-prepped lunches to stop me snacking on crap.
(Have been lurking as want to lose 7lb by July 30th)

BasinHaircut · 30/06/2021 08:01

Hi @poshme yes but it’s not very exciting! It’s just 500g pork mince fried off with chopped onions, carrots and mushrooms, then I add an old El Paso taco seasoning mix and some water. Sometimes also add a squeeze of Tom purée if I’m feeling fancy Grin

40g (dry) of brown rice per meal so total 200g.

Then I just chop some peppers and fry off separately as a sort of topping.

Works out as roughly 350/400kcals per serving if divided into 5, depending on whether I use oil or not.

Freezes well and you can heat from frozen.

I also do a similar one but with Turkey mince and a fajita seasoning for variety.

If you want to make it a bigger meal then serve over a bowl of salad.

BasinHaircut · 30/06/2021 08:02

Oh and if I have the calories then I might grate some cheese on top

OP posts:
BasinHaircut · 30/06/2021 08:03

And sorry I didn’t write it but obviously you have to cook the rice!

Thank you!

Evening all.

Another decent day here - although I think I’ve maybe just scraped in 10k steps today as had planned to walk to the gym but ran out of time so had to drive, which cut down the steps I had planned to take. Might step out for another quick walk in a minute. Did a decent weights session at lunchtime too.

Food looked like this and still have 250kcals to play with:
Breakfast - protein shake with banana and coffee 300kcals
Lunch - pork mince, veggies and rice, with added cheese 550kcals
Dinner - Fillet steak, mashed potatoes, carrots and swede, and green beans 500kcals.

Might have 30g nuts later for about 200kcals, or maybe 20g and a glass of milk.

Thank you for starting this thread I think it's gonna help me.

I did week 7 day 1 of couch to 5k, ran past a deer!

I am eating only between noon and 8pm.

Today I had:
Breakfast: none
2 black coffees

Lunch: Eggs and Bacon
Fruit snack
Dinner: Noodle udon soup with spring onion, mint, parsley and lime on top.

I drank much more water than normal which I'm proud of, 2.5l

I might have some ice cream now...

BumbleFlump · 30/06/2021 19:42

Can I join you all? I’ve put on loads of weight since lockdown etc and feel awful. I have a toddler to run around after so I’m always knackered and it’s difficult to fit in exercise but I know I really need to, for my mental health as well as anything else.

I need to dramatically cut carbs, especially bread. Cut sugar, biscuits, cake etc. I don’t drink much anyway but it cant hurt to cut it out entirely for a bit and definitely drink more water.

I have my period due and always end up scoffing choc etc so if anyone has any suggestions to avoid this that’d be great!

I’m 5ft3” and 11st8....

BasinHaircut · 30/06/2021 19:49

Welcome @BumbleFlump

My tip for wanting to scoff chocolate when period is due is to allow yourself some. A controlled but decent amount. Just accept that you need it on that day every month and work it in.

OP posts:
ManxRhyme · 30/06/2021 20:37

Buy dark chocolate. At least 70%. You won't necessarily enjoy it at first but will still get the chocolate hit and after a while normal dairy milk will seem artificial and sickeningly sweet.

Not too bad day today. Small portion of pasta and chicken for lunch then a massive vege and beef stir fry for dinner. Snack was fruit and a slice of homemade bread. Didn't have time for exercise this morning but I made myself fit some weights in just before cooking dinner and ignored the shouts of Muuuuum!

BumbleFlump · 30/06/2021 20:48

Thanks for the tips re. chocolate - yep dark chic is a good idea as it’ll reduce sugar cravings. Also I might get some nature valley protein bars in, they’re not particularly low fat but are low in carbs and sugar, high in protein which is something I think works for me.

I’ll also try fasting for 8 hours twice a week but will start that next week after AF and my 2nd Covid jab tomorrow. Need to walk more too...really need a step counter thingumy!

olliepollie · 30/06/2021 20:56

Another decent day here. Cycled 12km, doing 16:8 so didn't eat til 1, green salad with tzatziki, olives and Manchego for lunch, weird picky supper of ham, light babybels and some peanut butter Hmm within my calories but want some dark chocolate which will take me slightly over. still not enough water so knocking some back now.

Looking forward to my exercise day off tomorrow! I've made a salad for lunch.

maddenlightfoot · 30/06/2021 21:15

It's a cycle to work day for me today too - also about 12km all in but very flat so probably not many calories earnt.

Chicken salad wrap for lunch

Veg curry, no rice for dinner

Tempted by and gave in to: small slice of cake at work, a portion of the kids cheesy pasta straight from the saucepan, 3 custard creams 🙈 - hey, at least I can identify where it's going wrong 😅

Jammymare · 30/06/2021 21:51

Am definitely trying the dark chocolate tip, I just cannot stop myself from scoffing the whole bar if there’s milk chocolate in the house!

I’m still working from home, but did manage to drag myself out for a bike ride at lunch, 14miles in very humid weather. Also managed 16,000 steps today, so not being hard on myself for going over my calories, finishing on 1,599kcal.

I’m usually a big tea drinker, but have been trying to limit myself to two mugs in the morning and have really noticed that it has affected my thirst, I’m actually feeling thirsty and drinking more. 4 pints of water today plus two teas and a Diet Coke. Usually I would have just had 6-8 cups of tea and nothing else.

ClaraTheImpossibleGirl · 30/06/2021 22:40

Not a bad day here considering the DC are at home Confused did PE with Joe (to recreate that lockdown vibe!!) and only went slightly over my WW points. In fact I think I may have to re-count as that seems far too efficient a day when I've spent most of it separating squabbling children...

SunscreenCentral · 30/06/2021 23:15

Good day here too yay!
B : none
Lunch : salmon darne with veg & baby pots
Dinner : 20g shreddies with protein vanilla yog &
Snack : banana
Feeling good. Bicycle back tomorrow so I'll be off to my fitness class at the weekend which will make not drinking easier to do
Onward!!

Cavagirl · 01/07/2021 08:59

ARGH can someone give me a talking to please??? I have not had a good week so far - not eating junk crap stuff but lots of bloody lovely carbs and wine most evenings.
I've put on weight since Monday 🤦‍♀️
Once I'm in the zone with eating I'm really good at sticking to it but I just can't seem to get there at the moment. I think it's because I'm looking in the diary and thinking "well we're doing X on Saturday and I won't be able to stick to it then, so what's the point I may as well have the wine/bread/rice now".
I NEED A TALKING TO!!!!

ManxRhyme · 01/07/2021 10:52

Solidarity with the carb fest. Though I have found that if I start the meal with fibre it's better. So I can have the slice of bread but first I've got to eat all the veg and protein (sandwiches don't work here!). By the time I'm allowed the bread, one slice is enough.

BasinHaircut · 01/07/2021 12:16

@Cavagirl you have to change your mindset. Sticking to it 6 (or even 6.5) days out of 7 is going to leave you in a better place than not sticking to it at all.

I am going out for an Italian meal tonight so I’ll be eating ALL OF THE CARBS (no starter or pudding though) but I have had weetabix and a banana for breakfast, and I’m having an omelette with ham, a salad, and some fruit for lunch. I’m about to go out and do my walk and get in a gym session. The only thing that is taking me off plan is that my dinner will take me over the calories I’d ideally eat today.

Tomorrow I’ll return to 1,600 calories and as long as I do, it’s no big deal that I ate (and enjoyed) a big fat pasta or pizza dinner.

Remember it’s about what you do over a long period of time, not a day or 2, that counts.

troppibambini6 · 01/07/2021 17:19

Good day for me.
Shred and 15,300 steps so far.
L- shake 2 alpen light bars
S- half a skinny burger (left overs from kids)
Watermelon
D-chicken tarragon and mushroom casserole

SunscreenCentral · 01/07/2021 17:25

Exactly what @BasinHaircut, @Cavagirl

Eat the carbs last. And maybe swap in brown carbs cos they'll keep you feeling full for longer. I have a packet of trusty old ryvita here on standby if I desperately need a crunchy thing because celery just doesn't do it ryvita doesn't either but needs must

SunscreenCentral · 01/07/2021 17:30

So far today & know what I'm having later

B : none
Lunch : Tom/cuc/scallion salad with 100g tuna, 20g manchego, 2 ryvita, half an avocado with a dab of tom purée & dash of Worcestershire
Dinner: beef teriyaki no rice
Snack : protein yog & banana

Class tonight, looking forward to it

hellointhere · 01/07/2021 20:46

My eating window of noon to 8pm totally fell apart today, but it's cause I went on a huge walk so it's worth it. 6 miles!

B: scrambled egg on toast, two black coffees
L: none
D: salmon and veg stir fry
Cherries as a snack

Cavagirl · 01/07/2021 20:59

Thanks everyone!!! Much better day today, dodged the carbs and no booze. The pep talk was what I needed Grin

Jammymare · 01/07/2021 21:15

I made some bad food choices today (damn you cake!) but did a HIIT circuit and 15,000 steps to try and limit the damage.
Finishing today on 1,580kcal so not a total disaster
