Any Lardy fatties in their 50's want to join me in weight loss

Morning, I'm looking for some company in my quest to lose the lard.

I'm useless at dieting, I have managed to shift one stone since Christmas but I keep losing and gaining, rinse and repeat.

Anyone up for joining me.

northernexposure welcome, my stats are almost identical to yours, my shape is barrel too.

Notonthestairs · 08/06/2021 17:32

What I recognised at the end of last week's crisis is that I put myself at the bottom of the pile. What I mean is I drop whatever I have planned (diet, exercise - both of which I know will do me good) if there is any other external pressure.

It's like I can only deal with so much so I'll do me later - not sure if that makes any sense. I'm not a martyr I think I just find it easier to help/support than concentrate on me because that's facing some ridiculous problems of my own creation (unfit, unhealthy, unhappy).

I am rambling. Definitely need this thread to keep a bit of focus!

Cornishmaiden · 08/06/2021 19:02

I am guilty of putting myself last too. I am a carer for my mum(83 with Parkinson's) and although I am meant to be retired I still do a couple of shifts a fortnight to still try and be me rather than mum, daughter, wife and carer. I know I will be better at all my roles if I can lose the weight.
I have had a little triumph today as I walked the dog on a slightly longer route and am currently on 6703 steps SmileHalo

RickOShay · 08/06/2021 19:33

Not too bad today. I have to do this for myself. I’ve got to remember that treating myself is not the crisps and dip, treating myself is NOT eating crap.

RickOShay · 08/06/2021 19:34

We are worth it Grin

Oldandcobwebby · 08/06/2021 19:43

Are men allowed? If so, count me in. 58 next month. Sadly 14st 6lb this time last week. 14st 3.5lb this morning. I want to be 11st 10lb or thereabouts. It's not a huge amount, but I'm so fed up of looking crap and my clothes not fitting.

steppemum · 08/06/2021 20:50

right, so 2 days in and I've stuck to no snacking and decent meals.
I weighed myself yesterday, so I'll do a few days and weigh again.

I do walk the dog every day, so that is good exercise. But I have to wear really good walking boots for my achy feet!

Chelsea567 · 08/06/2021 22:30

It's my birthday tomorrow so my new healthy lifestyle starts on Thursday! Might try Noom or Second Nature... I've done 2 and half stone on SlimmingWorld before (all back on now☹️)I know what to do, just can't actually do it.

SunscreenCentral · 08/06/2021 23:36

Hello everyone, lovely to see so many here, great to have a bit of company in the war on lard!
So fellow foot-soldiers, I've had an ok-ish run of things. I seem to have dropped a few lbs but nothing of significance. Family get-together @ the weekend and I had quite a few drinks but I'd planned that and it was one evening only
This week the exco programme kicks in, and I'm really going to try to drink lots of water. Rubbish at it. Wine? No problem. Nice glass of water....ehhhh

Good luck this week every one

Colourmylife1 · 08/06/2021 23:48

Late to the party but I’d like to join the club. I have only a few kgs to lose but will be doing a slightly less restrictive version of Fast 800 as that is the only thing that has worked for me in my post-menopausal state.

Whydidimarryhim · 09/06/2021 07:22

I’m 5 ft 3 on a good day and 12 stone.
I gained my weight once I had my son 11 years ago.
I’ve lost some and am keeping the same weight from 2013 till now!!!!
I would like to lose 1.5 stone.
But like most of you say small achievements first.

Colourmylife1 · 09/06/2021 07:33

Day 1 for me today. I have lost and gained the same half stone several times over lock down. The weight is all on my waist and my clothes feel so tight and uncomfortable. I plan to do modified Fast 800 for 2 x weeks and then maybe move to 4:3. I don’t do it very strictly and will ease off a little bit over the weekends. I find being fairly strict works for me during the week as it just completely cuts my appetite. I would love to be able to lose weight just by cutting down a bit but sadly that just doesn’t work for me now (age 58, 5ft3).

Sorry, haven't RTFT but if anyone is looking for exercise that's suitable for over-50s with dodgy knees etc, then you should check out Pahla B:

Day 3 of 3 day diet nearly done.., not been too difficult so far but need to distract myself till dinner time this evening...

I Plan to do 3 days again next week assuming the scales are favourable tomorrow morning. And have to get through Thursday - Sunday without too many excesses...

HopelesslyOptimistic · 09/06/2021 15:04

Halfway through week/1. Aim 3Ibs per week. Strategy, fast from 6.30pm-12.30 ish next day. Kick start meal 1 with a liquid bullet concoction of multiple large healthy food, nuts & grains. Meal 2, meat 2 days per week remaining non meat. Making this up as I go. Had risotto last night, tonight halloumi Mediterranean thingy. Two small coffees per day, no alcohol (usually drink a bottle of wine a week) lots lots of watering and peeing Wink oh I'm back running. Ran 2x 5k. Aim is to run something 4x per week. I'm whacked writing this. Good luck all keep us updated as your all inspiring me!

RickOShay · 09/06/2021 15:30

Pinched one of dds outrageously expensive mini moons. 71 calories, made with cashew nut milk. It’s stopped me ripping open the caramel twixes Grin
So would recommend them. I sadly have a sweet tooth and a savoury tooth and a bread tooth.

ThinWomansBrain · 09/06/2021 20:58

ooh - the mini moons look tempting!
I don't think I could keep a box of those for long.

nothernexposure · 09/06/2021 21:51

Day 3 healthy eating done, plus 2 core and upper body workouts. Could only manage half the workouts and everything aches. At least that's stopping me from raiding the fridge and biscuit tin! Really hoping this thread can keep me accountable and motivated

Notonthestairs · 09/06/2021 22:44

Well done everyone.

Yogurt (full fat but small portion), prawn salad for lunch and chilli con carne for dinner (small scoop of rice). 1 dog walk and one short session on exercise bike.
Not perfect but better then last week! Small steps.

Notonthestairs · 09/06/2021 22:45

Love the look of the mini moons.

RickOShay · 09/06/2021 23:05

They are surprisingly nice and quite satisfying. Failed a bit this evening.
Mozzarella salad for lunch.
Oatcakes and slice of whole meal bread and Boursin and cucumber. Okay. Then scarfed dc’s leftover pizza. Bastards.
But it is little steps. Did do a bit of gardening but it was scazzlingly hot. Going to try and do even a tiny bit of yoga tomorrow and try and eat carbs at lunchtime.

SunscreenCentral · 10/06/2021 00:35

I find those little boxes of "sweet corner" hard sweets that you find at the checkout at Aldi & lidl are lifesavers if you get a big craving for something sweet. One of those & I'm usually fine. They're about 13kcal each

putthehamsterbackinitscage · 10/06/2021 07:21

Weigh in after 3 days of 3 day diet 147.6 lbs... loss of 3.2 ... now got to try to keep it off till next week...

RickOShay · 10/06/2021 09:17

That’s brilliant @putthehamsterbackinitscage
Well done you Smile

herbaceous · 10/06/2021 10:54

Hello fellow fatties.

55 (apparently, though I suspect a clerical error), 5'8" and 12st4 here. Waistbands are tight, and I have huge bulging arms and multiple chins.

I don't really snack, don't eat cakes, biscuits or sweets (well, not much) and exercise a bit, so find my relentless lardiness enraging. I can only imagine it's down to the wine (two/three bottles a week) and large portions.

It's so hard though being on a diet while fitting in with family (DP and DS). Do you do two meals? Adapt the 'diet' meal for them? Insist they eat it too? (DP could do with dropping a few stone, frankly).

To get round this in the past I've done the 5:2 or 16:8, as just missing breakfast or whatever is easier than constantly having to think about meals. But now I have little routine (doing supply school work) it's hard - dealing with children or teenagers while starving hungry doesn't end well for anyone.
