Any Lardy fatties in their 50's want to join me in weight loss

Morning, I'm looking for some company in my quest to lose the lard.

I'm useless at dieting, I have managed to shift one stone since Christmas but I keep losing and gaining, rinse and repeat.

Anyone up for joining me.

I have had so much knee pain over the last few years. I need to lose so much weight I can't even write it down. I am just going to concentrate on 7lbs at a time. One bag of potatoes at a time! I have been using an exercise bike for a month now as even walking hurts my knees and have 2 sessions a day and try to do 20 km total. I was doing 7 at the start but had not done any exercise in decades so need to keep motivated by not making it an ordeal. I bought scales a month ago as well. First set in nearly 20 years. I nearly was sick when I read my weight but at least I am no able to deny it anymore I have lost a stone so far.

Trixsie · 30/05/2021 08:16

I'm with you. Shall report back with my weight.

ThinWomansBrain · 30/05/2021 08:58

@Notonthestairs - thank you, I had a lovely day
the final hurrah - an excellent afternoon tea in the sunny garden of a lovely hotel.
Trying to work out whether I'm going to eat things in the fridge (in small portions) or throw them out.

Definitely low carbing - I did that a few years ago and lost about 25kg, but the carbs have definitely crept back in!

ClarasZoo · 30/05/2021 09:07

I might have joined you but my goal weight is most of you lots starting weight. Sigh.

MercedesBenz · 30/05/2021 11:47

@ClarasZoo
Surely it makes no difference , whether you want to lose 10lb or 10 stone we are all the same
Trying to make good choices , celebrating any good news and getting back on the horse ( so to speak ) if we fall

nicslackey · 30/05/2021 11:59

@claraszoo I know what you mean exactly.I am going to check in here for some support regardless. Our journey may take longer and be harder but we have to start. What is the alternative? I am missing out on so much atm.

PioneerWoman · 30/05/2021 12:35

Claraszoo please don’t be put off, just take it 7 lbs at a time. I love that everyone is in their 50s, that’s common ground not whether someone has 2 stone to lose or 10 stone.

nicslackey well done on losing a stone especially when you have knee problems. My DH has an artificial knee (after 17 knee ops over the years from sports injuries) so I know how tough it is. His knee surgeon said a cross trainer is safest to use, bike is ok and rower is ok, treadmills not a good idea. You sound determined Smile.

ClarasZoo · 30/05/2021 13:26

Well I will join you then - thank you. I am currently mid weight for my lifetime. I have been three stone heavier and I have been three stone lighter. At my age I would be happy with 11 stone which means I have just over two stone to lose. I am doing fast 800 at the moment but I have been a previous weight watcher and slimming worlder, both of which also worked for me. Fast 800 was hard for the first few days then very easy. I have lost a stone so far, two to go. I am pleased to have dropped from obese to overweight! The recipe book has lots of easy fast recipes. Unfortunately I am realising you can’t eat as much aged 50 something as 30 something😂

Egghead68 · 30/05/2021 13:30

Hi - I’m 52 and weigh 70.8kg (BMI 23).

I’d like to get back to my pre-pandemic 62kg but I also like eating!

My strategy at the moment is to try to maintain before starting to lose very slowly.

I already exercise a lot.

jannyapple · 30/05/2021 13:33

I agree ... who cares what our starting ... or goal weight is
It's all relevant to us and it's what we all striving for
I can't see if we agreed on a weigh day .. I'm going to have mine on a Monday I think
Good luck everyone .. we can do it

PioneerWoman · 30/05/2021 13:48

jannyapple I will weigh on Monday too.

Claraszoo I have just started Fast800 and MercedesBenz is doing it too. I love the food but I have not managed to give up the booze yet so I am not sticking to it properly.

nicslackey · 30/05/2021 14:09

@Pioneerwoman Thanks for the encouragement! I will do my weigh on a Monday as well. I feel at my age I am drinking in the Last Chance Saloon!

braid · 31/05/2021 08:40

Hi everyone, how's it going? I have shifted 4 lbs off this week. Happy with that. One of my big motivators is clothing. I've noticed becoming someone who has to wear long baggy tops. I want to change that. I think the waist measurement idea is a great one so I'm going to start that this week. Thanks everyone as this thread is helping me.

jannyapple · 31/05/2021 08:53

Well done @braid I'd love to lose 4 lbs as it would put me down into the next number bracket ! Did you follow a specific plan ?

nicslackey · 31/05/2021 10:28

Well done @braid

PioneerWoman · 31/05/2021 10:59

Well done braid. I weighed and have lost 2 lbs after 4 days. I also have cramps and my period, when will I stop having periods!

I am happy with my start but know I can do better. I am going to try to knock the white wine on the head, last night the wine led to a lot of crisps. I only eat crisps if I drink wine.

jannyapple · 31/05/2021 11:56

Forgot to say I've started my Monday weigh in so will see how I get on
Just rescued a big dog who is definitely helping ... not in the way you'd expect though as he's a bit lazy .. more that there is no pleasure having a biscuit or any snacks with him around as he's very greedy and can eat them faster than me
I have to make sure my dinner is ready then put his food out just to get any peace ... right here we go for a good week for us all ....

ThinWomansBrain · 01/06/2021 23:20

Yeah - first day!
No snacks, about 1,000 calories and 30g of carb.
I had intended to skip lunch, but I was hungry, so had egg on toast.
Went shopping - WITH a list, bit of a first for me.
The only things I got that weren't on the list were green salad, Mediterranean vegetables and some salmon fillets, so a good start!

OldScrappyAndHungry · 02/06/2021 08:28

Joining too please! Just about to enter my 50th year and have so much weight to lose. Could do with some support Smile.

wakeupnshakeup · 02/06/2021 09:19

Good morning all, had trouble squeezing myself into a size 12 dress yesterday.. that tells me all I need to know! Went walking.. did just over 13,000 steps and plan to do the same again today. Food was hit and miss because it was my sons birthday and we had a wonderful Chinese meal out. Today I'm counting every dam thing that passes my lips. I'm going to do measurements once a week. I'll step on the scales Monday for the first time and take it from there. 😬 I'm convinced the menopause has a lot to do with it! The ever increasing waistline is so frustrating.

WhataMissMap · 02/06/2021 09:26

I fit the criteria, May I join?
I’m aiming to lose one stone, trying to be realistic. Ideally I need to lose more.
Good luck everyone!

PioneerWoman · 02/06/2021 10:44

Welcome new joiners, the threads a bit quiet so the more the merrier.

I am on day 7 and have lost 3 lbs, every lb has been a battle, eating a lot less and walking every day. My body seems to want to hold onto the blubber. 2 stones to lose and most of it is tummy.

Keep going everyone.

AnnaCharles888 · 02/06/2021 16:59

Hi all, I've been through this, lost my excess weight and kept it off. Here cheering you on and happy to answer questions if any come up.

Just know for right now that your quest is possible!

No more diets for life! :-)

ThinWomansBrain · 02/06/2021 17:18

Hello everyone
Well Done Anna - that's what I'm aiming for - one day I'll get there!

I started I Second Nature this week - seems OK so far.
Encourages you not to obsess about logging everything (a new diet/healthy eating phase can often result in hours of spreadsheets, graphs and analysis) Doing OK at that for now.

wakeupnshakeup · 02/06/2021 17:55

Hey @AnnaCharles888 thanks for dropping by the cheer us on. What method did you take? I'm determined to find a better healthier lifestyle that doesn't involve slimming world or shakes!
