Morning, I'm looking for some company in my quest to lose the lard.

I'm useless at dieting, I have managed to shift one stone since Christmas but I keep losing and gaining, rinse and repeat.

Anyone up for joining me.

Hi All

Finally got long enough time to myself to catch up properly and post... last week's holiday was great but Mobile signal was hit and miss

Welcome back all who have been MIA

Sounds like you've mostly been suffering - hope you are recovering from COVID now and have at least hit find losses to compensate.

Got on the scales this morning and very relieved to see the holiday damage wasn't too great.... back up to 9.4.0 so a bit of effort to get back down to where I was in September and then to work towards goal.

Bootcamp starts today so that should help me stay on track - must stop drinking wine ... I have no restraint whatsoever once I get started 😳

TrueGrit54 · 18/10/2021 12:25

putthehamsterbackinitscage that’s funny, I have signed up to bootcamp too and am currently clogging the thread up with very kind posters giving me tips on alcohol substitutions. I am a bit mortified but also grateful.

So far, Nanny State (Brew Dog) as a low carb AF beer. Lemon in water, cucumber in water, herbal teas, angusturos (can’t spell) bitters in water. I have Becks Blue already but it’s a little high in carbs.

Took my measurements and 40-42 inches is appearing for bust, waist hips, no wonder my clothes don’t fit.

putthehamsterbackinitscage · 18/10/2021 17:39

I've been keeping up with the bootcamp thread - have spent all day travelling, and will finally get to my hotel around 8pm so I've had a lot of time to read Mumsnet for a change...

Everyone seems to have jumped on your posts about drink ... seems a little unfair to single you out.... kitts if leopard have the sane issues I think - I certainly do and will try hard not to drink at least mid week but ideally nothing at all got the 1st 2 weeks. My DH won't make that easy though .... he'll be drinking wine when I get home Thursday and then we're away Friday - Sunday too.....

I'm going to stick to sparkling mineral water with dinner tonight (probably room service) then see how I cope with dinner with colleagues tomorrow...

Having never met them face to face before it'll be interesting.

putthehamsterbackinitscage · 18/10/2021 17:40

*kitts leopard ... bloody autocorrect

Should be we all

TrueGrit54 · 18/10/2021 18:04

putthehamsterbackinitscage that’s really good of you to mind for me but I know all the comments and advice were from a good place. I have bought a cucumber to try with sparkling water, Brewdog/Nanny State and lemons. If I feel a craving later I will start trying them out. It’s funny I actually eat tonnes of veg and home cooked meals, usually manage to avoid bread and pasta, don’t eat chocolate or sweets but I have a huge spare tummy. I guess it’s hormones/my age and portions are too large and then there’s the white wine.

Hope your hotel is nice and room service isn’t all junky carbs.

steppemum · 22/10/2021 09:52

morning all.
Well so far I am managing to keep the weight below 100kg! So it looks like I might actually have met my first goal accidentally Grin

I'm on day 11, isolating finished yesterday and NOW my tatse buds have gone all over the place!

Well, I hope that means I'm not going to eat as much....
I also got out and walked the dog for the first time, so some exercise which is always good.

next goal - 5 kgs before Christmas? I'd love to say 10 but I'm being realistic.

putthehamsterbackinitscage · 25/10/2021 12:04

Morning... just checking in ... back to normal this week and I do have to say I'm glad to be home - I do like travelling but I really do enjoy being in my own space too.

And the cat seems to have missed me - either that or she's feeling cold at night 😂

Bootcamp has definitely got me back on track- even if it wasn't absolutely strict last week. I have managed to drop the odd pounds that we're creeping on - today's weigh in is my lightest in years

Sw 150.4
Cw 127.2
Goal 119.0

putthehamsterbackinitscage · 25/10/2021 12:07

@steppemum that's at least something positive from COVID.

Glad you're beginning to recover - just take it easy though - you don't want to relapse.

5kg before Christmas is doable - just over a pound a week...

TrueGrit54 · 25/10/2021 13:04

Well done puttgehamsterbackinitscage, that’s got to feel good. Coincidentally your SW is my current weight and your CW is my goal weight! Can I ask how long it has taken you so far? It’s taken me 10 months to lose 11 lbs but I am hoping bootcamp will focus me and I will lose faster.

Well done steppemum you can definitely lose 5 kgs by Christmas.

putthehamsterbackinitscage · 25/10/2021 21:31

Thanks @TrueGrit54 - it's better than I expected so really happy today.

I started trying to lose weight on 7th June - 1st week I messed around with a 3 day diet that worked for me in my 20s but quickly realised it wasn't having the same effect no I'm in my 50s. So, from 14th June I switched to low carb and lost steadily until about September when holidays and treats/booze started to creep back in. I found a recipe for a lower carb fruit cake that I made a couple of times as a test for Christmas fir DH but I ended up eating it as it was really good. That plus wine meant I stopped losing and gained a bit back.

Bootcamp should help me reset again and if I can get the final 8 lbs off by Christmas that'll be great.

putthehamsterbackinitscage · 29/10/2021 11:38

Hi all

Quiet on here again this week... How is everyone doing?

Having a fairly good week so far, not straying too far from bootcamp rules so far and I've managed to get out and run or go fir at least a short walk each day.

Did my usual Friday weigh in today before the weekend and I am amazed at the progress thus last 2 weeks...

Today was 8.13.0, down again and moving closer to target / 6lbs to go now so fingers crossed 🤞 I'll make it before Christmas.

Babymamamama · 31/10/2021 09:54

It is so quiet on this thread isn’t it? I’ve done the usual it’s half term let’s gain three pounds thing! Visiting family and a few nights away mean it’s hard to follow my OMAD regimen and I did indulge in some amazing chocolates and a couple of cooked breakfasts. My goodness I enjoyed them but the scales tell differently. Good news though is despite this now I’m a size 12 top and bottom half - before it was only my top half as my curvy/lardy lower half was still a 14. I’m thrilled to be the proud owner of my first size 12 jeans in many many years, it’s really cheered me up. I really need to do proper OMAD from now till Christmas with no excuses or I have no chance in hell of breaking into the long dreamt of 10 stone bracket. How’s everyone doing? Any good news/bad news? Are people better from covid?

TrueGrit54 · 31/10/2021 11:36

Hi Babymamamama good to hear your news on the jeans front. Hamster and I are on the Christmas Bootcamp thread as this is so quiet. She is doing great and I had an iffy half term, kids off school for two weeks … I am not giving up though. I am really going to try and have a good week next week. My dream is the 9 stone bracket. Until I was 49 I was always in the 8 stone bracket so it should be possible.

Babymamamama · 31/10/2021 11:41

Hey truegrit yes I did think some people were on that thread but when I very briefly checked it it seemed to be a low carb thread is that the main gist? I prob need to find an intermittent fasting thread or start one up but maybe it’s too niche……Smile

TrueGrit54 · 31/10/2021 13:44

Yeah low carb but it’s pretty sensible, not calorie counting or obsessively counting carbs but no potatoes/pasta/rice/pulses to start with and then you can ease some back in. I am new to it so no expert. It focuses on good wholesome food. Low carb is what I need. There are IF threads in the Fast800 or Blood Sugar Diet sections I think. It would be nice to keep this going too, thread title sums me up Grin.

putthehamsterbackinitscage · 01/11/2021 09:33

Hi All

@Babymamamama that's great news on the size 12 jeans - well done!

The boot camp thread is low carb but once you get into it, it is fairly easy day to day - just a bit more challenging when eating out or visiting people etc. I'm not totally sticking to it though - I'm still having the odd boozy night and accepting that I can't stick to it properly when we go out - though I offer to drive when I can as that means I avoid drinking and going completely off plan.

This week has seen a couple of restaurant trips, including a tasting menu on Friday plus we visited friends we hadn't seen in 2 years at the weekend so I did slip a bit- flourless chocolate cake was the best dessert option 😳 for Saturday lunch but I then compensated by not having dinner in the evening.

Overall the weekend only saw 0.6 lb back on from Friday so I'll take that as a win and I'll be back in plan during the week at least.

Babymamamama · 02/11/2021 17:56

Thanks truegrit I will have a look at the other threads….anything that helps keep up the momentum right? Hamster that is definitely a win. This long game definitely has its ups and downs…

pappajonessecretchild · 11/11/2021 10:21

hello everyone! I was on this group earlier, but havent posted for a long while but still lurk!
its so slow to loose the weight, but i feel in a stronger mindset this time than before, and am tackling the fitness bit as well, so very slow progress, but going in the correct way. I have been setting myself a small target of a LB a time, and that seems to sort my head out. I was just shy of the morbid obese BMI, and finally this week am 29.9 BMI so now just fat rather than very fat!

hello again to you all, keep plodding, the tortoise wins the race....
SW- 13st 13lb
CW- 11st 3lb
TW- 9st 10lb
(first time i have admitted to how high it went up to, at 5ft 1inch, it was pretty bad)
keep well everyone.

putthehamsterbackinitscage · 16/11/2021 16:23

Hey @pappajonessecretchild small victories are still victories... slow n steady still gets to the same end result - keep posting - we can keep this thread alive 🤞

I'm definitely into slow n steady as I get nearer target- losing a bit, putting some back on them losing a bit more... The issue for me is mostly weekends and some weekdays if DH opens wine and it goes downhill rapidly.

I'm beginning to think my target may be a bit ambitious too.... My target is 8.7 on my Renpho scales but they disagree with my old Salter scales by as much as 8lb on a daily basis and by the salter scales I'm at target or below most days.

I guess I need to transition to maintenance rather than try to lose more - the hard bit I think will be how to relax from bootcamp without bingeing on carbs and starting to gain it all back - which I have done in the past after 5:2 and quitting sugar.

I think I'll still need this thread and bootcamp to keep me accountable and help work out what I can reintroduce without gaining.

seethesuninwintertime · 07/12/2021 23:30

51 and joining.....

Buying batteries for the scales...

steppemum · 17/12/2021 12:40

Hi everyone,
I've been off the radar for ages, because I was just not losing at all and got fed up.
then I got oll and I've been in hospital, so i have ironically pretty much reached my goals.
Being ill has also knocked my appetite down and I am avoiding high fat foods, so keep losing!

SW 110 kg
CW 96kg
GW 80kg

so 2 stone down, which is amazing. 2 (+) more stone to go

putthehamsterbackinitscage · 05/01/2022 07:02

Anyone still around?

I need to get back on track after Christmas holidays, wine, chocolate, mince pies and pub lunches.

Scales are showing a gain of 5.5 lbs since Christmas Eve so could be worse.

Trying to get back on track with low ish carb and no booze on a work night - have a couple of weekends away planned so dry January wasn't an option although I have done it in the past.

steppemum · 07/01/2022 10:23

I'm still here.
Trying to start again.

It was amazing having lost that extra before Christmas, even if I was ill. Made me realise how familiar I am with my 'fat' body and that it will look and feel different as I lose weight.

So
SW 110 kgs
CW - not sure daren;t look as I've probably put it on again, but hopefull still under 100
GW - well, one step at a time. Next goal is 90kg

ingeborg3 · 12/01/2022 01:46

Hi everyone!
I am trying now a low carb diet, hard for me, as I love fruits in large quantities. I am 64 kg, and would like to get to 54. We can do it!Smile

SlowHorses67 · 31/12/2022 15:08

Anyone around who wants to restart this thread? I am in my 50s with 2 or 3 stone to lose. I like the idea of being at a similar stage in life.
