Any Lardy fatties in their 50's want to join me in weight loss

Morning, I'm looking for some company in my quest to lose the lard.

I'm useless at dieting, I have managed to shift one stone since Christmas but I keep losing and gaining, rinse and repeat.

Anyone up for joining me.

woow to those trousers TrueGrit! Godd NSV, I love those moments.

Someone asked what I am doing.
main things for me is no snacks, which requires constant monitoring.
Then 16:8, and consciously eating more veg and less sweet/unhealthy stuff.
That has worked so far, but I may need to step it up to lose more.

TrueGrit54 · 06/09/2021 11:56

Thanks gang!

I am doing no breakfast, small lunch (dark rye ryvita or scrambled eggs or tomatoes, feta, rocket), proper big evening meal with protein and a lot of veg. Absolutely no bread or pasta allowed but potatoes ok. I don’t have a sweet tooth but the crisps and dips are my pitfall.

My new iPhone just flashed up (unasked) a picture of me taken 3 years ago to the day (tech is so impertinent sometimes). I look really pretty for me. I was 51 and 9 stone exactly (I have been tracking my weight on an ap for years). The extra weight and years have seen a serious deterioration. Off for a walk and listen to a funny podcast, not going to let it upset me. I had a hectic weekend so giving myself an easy afternoon.

steppemum · 07/09/2021 08:57

3 years? That's good really, if it has only gone on over the last 3 years, you stand more chance of getting it off, and keeping it off x

TrueGrit54 · 07/09/2021 10:16

Thanks steppemum, hadn’t thought of it like that.

Lindylou52 · 08/09/2021 17:03

Hi i would love to join please, i'm 52 and have lost the plot with food since lockdown began. I would love to fit into my clothes by christmas, I have 3 stone to lose maybe 4 if i'm honest. starting weight 14.3lbs and im 5ft 4.

Babymamamama · 08/09/2021 17:08

Nice to hear from you Lindylou52.
Have you thought of how you’re going to start? I found starting super hard but once you get going it’s almost rewarding Wink

Lindylou52 · 08/09/2021 19:23

Hi Babymamamama I was thinking of doing Keto as i dabbled a bit last year and i felt good it suited me. But i need to stick to something long term a lifestyle change a big overhaul, a complete change in my eating habits. How are you doing? are you following a certain plan.

Babymamamama · 08/09/2021 21:15

I’m doing OMAD or one meal a day. I also try to low carb but I can’t cut it out completely as I’m too weak for that Smile. But it’s been working well if slowly so far I’ve lost one and a half stone and would like to lose another half to one stone more to get towards the middle of the healthy BMI range. It feels so much better having a bit more control over my eating. I think boredom, menopause, stress and lockdown were a pretty bad combo for me. We’ve also started tentative steps back into the office at work so that’s another motivation for me not to look as if I’ve gained too much (vain I know). Sounds like Keto could be the one for you if you liked it before….

Babymamamama · 08/09/2021 21:16

I think you’re right about looking at a lifestyle change. It has to be sustainable otherwise the yo-yo ing can happen.

TrueGrit54 · 09/09/2021 12:08

Hi Lindylou52, coincidentally my plan is similar to Babymamamama’s. I just have coffee for breakfast, a very small lunch scrambled eggs or tomatoes/leaves and a little feta, proper big dinner with lots of veg and protein. Yesterday I ate 3 dark rye ryvita and tomatoes for lunch, dinner was a salmon fillet, tomatoes, and a huge bowl of spinach/rocket/lettuce leaves with a little French dressing. I don’t eat bread (makes me gain immediately and crave more bread) or pasta or rice but I do eat potatoes.

I’ve lost a stone since January. I know that’s very slow but it’s been a bit lose 3 lbs, regain 3 lbs on repeat. I think I have hit my stride now, my appetite has adjusted and I am beginning to feel better generally. I have 21 lbs left to lose and want to do this by Christmas.

My top tip is not to have rubbish in the house, if you don’t buy it you can’t eat it.

Lindylou52 · 09/09/2021 12:13

Good luck going back to work I was lucky to only have 7 weeks off during lockdown. I remember going back as I was so nervous to be around people. My problem is boredom Im having weeks on furlough then back in work then off again. Im starting tomorrow i'm doing Keto small snack at lunch then main meal . Like you said starting is the hardest part. I am mentally ready to change.

Babymamamama · 09/09/2021 16:03

Good luck with starting the keto. I’ve heard you can see quite quick results on that one. It is surprising/interesting going back into work and seeing people in the flesh rather than over the screens. Many have gained. Blush Only a few look the same or trimmer.

steppemum · 10/09/2021 08:42

grumpy today.

restarted last wed/thurs after holidays.
I'm doing 16:8, which for me means nothing until 12 and then nothing after 8.
My downfall is idle snacking, so by being not allowed to snack all mornign and all evening, that really helps. I think it is something I will continue long term. I'm never hungry for breakfast anyway.

I do have tea. Not sure if I should, but I cant drop the tea!

trouble is, in order to properly lose, rather than maintain, and lose a tiny bit, I need to eat properly during the eating slot.
And yeasterday for example I have cake and choc biscuits Hmm - on top of meals.

Really struggling to get going again.
I like the idea of the dark ryvita, might try those.

And just to add insult to injury, my bloody scales have given up the ghost. Only the battery I think, but I haven't got a spare, and forget every time I'm out.

TrueGrit54 · 10/09/2021 09:52

Going to try and just have one meal today, sirloin steak, spinach, green beans and bowl of tomatoes. Lost 1.5 lbs since Monday, that’s being very strict this week. Feel well, tightened bra clasp a notch.

steppemum I am hard core with the dark rye ryvita now and eat them plain, I was putting butter on until this week though.

steppemum · 10/09/2021 10:54

isn't it bloody 12 o'clock yet

TrueGrit54 · 10/09/2021 11:22

Your appetite will adjust steppemum, it might take a few days to get into the swing of it. If you are finding it too hard maybe have some full fat Greek yogurt, a spoon of peanut butter or an inch of cheese. Is your period due? I find the week just before my period I can’t diet.

Babymamamama · 11/09/2021 12:23

How’s everyone doing today? I’ve started on the dark ryvita this week. Thanks to this thread. I actually like them. My weight loss is still very slow but shifting downwards again so I’m pleased. I’m into size 12 now for tops hurray and purchased a winter coat in size 12. So no going back I guess GrinI’m still a 14 on bottom half but don’t mind that too much. I can see my waist which is so pleasing. This is definitely a long haul project but these little mini wins along the way help me stay on track. I’d usually have fallen off the wagon long before this point.

TrueGrit54 · 11/09/2021 12:49

That’s great Babymamamama size 12 is a nice place to be. I am happy with my progress too but it is very slow. My tummy is still well over 40 inches so a lot of blubber sitting there. I am about to force myself to do some sweaty exercise today. Menu wise I am going to try to just have an evening meal and will make chilli (no rice for me).

Babymamamama · 11/09/2021 13:00

Your dinner sounds yum truegrit. Have you tried cauliflower rice either pre made or easy to whip up in the food blender? I just fry it for couple of mins with minimal oil. It is a great sub for real rice and makes you feel much more virtuous Wink.

TrueGrit54 · 11/09/2021 13:33

Thanks Babymamamama, yeah I love cauliflower and it is a great rice sub, good reminder as I have one in the fridge.

steppemum · 13/09/2021 09:29

so was rubbish over weekend, lots of social events which involved cake and BBQ, followed by full roast dinner on Sunday as it is our last family day all together before ds heads off to uni.

Ate loads, and then chocolates in evening.

102.5 kgs this morning, so that is 2-3 lbs back on.

Kicking myself as I was relaly good on Thursday and Friday.
I think it has given me a wake up call to get going again though.

Babymamamama · 13/09/2021 11:49

Sounds like a fun weekend steppemum. I know that feeling when you gain a bit. Hopefully you can shift it off again in the week. My weakness this weekend has been flake-Cornetto y things (and white wine while watching the tennis). Obviously I bought the ice creams for DD Hmm but then couldn’t resist. I think I’d have lost more this weekend if I hadn’t had two….but they were soo nice. I guess if we are in the long game these blips will happen. So today I’m back on the black coffee and mineral water to try to get back on track.

putthehamsterbackinitscage · 13/09/2021 13:25

@steppemum don't kick yourself too hard ... you've had a couple of days off plan to fit around family and some key events that need to be celebrated... you just need to get back in it today 👍

Weekends are always challenging when you have family stuff to deal with.

I had a busy week - a full day in the office for a team meeting plus dinner and drinks out and an overnight stay in a hotel for the first time in nearly 2 years, then a full on weekend with a fell endurance challenge that finished with beer, more beer and wine on Saturday, then more wine and home made (tried to be lowish carb) ice cream yesterday ...

I tried to limit the damage where I could and the 20 miles run/walk definitely helped with that

End result is 0.4 lb down on last Monday but up on where I was before all the fun started Thursday...

This week brings Birthday meal out for my eldest so I've offered to drive to avoid drinking ...

TrueGrit54 · 13/09/2021 16:08

It is maddening how difficult it is to lose 3 lbs, being very strict it can still take 3 weeks. But gaining 3 lbs, I can do that in one day easy.

I am still losing but so slow measuring in quarter pounds. Today’s food is 2 scrambled eggs for lunch, reheated chilli con carne with cauliflower for dinner. Plodding on.

ingeborg3 · 14/09/2021 08:05

Well done to the ones of you that were able to lose even a quarter of a pound! I am stuck at 140 pounds, 20
pounds gain, mostly around my belly, in two years. I donated the clothes... nothing old fits me. Luckily I got a number of those quarantine pants with elastic waist...
