Any Lardy fatties in their 50's want to join me in weight loss

5NOV · 23/05/2021 08:57

Morning, I'm looking for some company in my quest to lose the lard.

I'm useless at dieting, I have managed to shift one stone since Christmas but I keep losing and gaining, rinse and repeat.

Anyone up for joining me.

We've just had a lot of visitors, thus booze and big meals. Even 16:8 in the days between doesn't undo the damage! May have to wait until term time when things get back to normal a bit...

TrueGrit54 · 18/08/2021 10:51

I think I may have regained a bit too, have my period and combination of feeling a bit weak and period pain means I’ve relaxed my diet and am eating more. No point weighing for a couple of days. I will get back on it when period settles down.

Babymamamama · 20/08/2021 09:02

I’m finding this last bit of the school summer holidays hard weight loss wise. Still on OMAD but it’s become a bit more than that. I hope I’m not losing my way. I’ve been doing a massive lot of walking so at least I’m healthier if not lighter. In total I’ve lost over a stone and a half but I still have a bit of excess on my belly and the thighs Grin. According to the NHS website I’m right at the top of the healthy range now….but I want to get towards the middle of that. So I have more of a cushion if you see what I mean. But this week nothing has shifted. Nada. Zip.

steppemum · 23/08/2021 21:26

So back from holiday. Lots of lovely food, but lots fo dog walking and horse riding.
Came back to big family birthday party yesterday, so I weighed in today and I am 102.1 kgs. So pretty much the same as when I left. That's great

Babymamamama · 23/08/2021 21:51

Steppemum sounds like all the fun activities cancelled out the nice food. What a win win!

TrueGrit54 · 24/08/2021 11:03

Hi gang, steppemum glad you had a lovely time and well done not gaining. Did you enjoy horse riding? I haven’t ridden in years and am trying to work up the courage to go on an adult refresher course, will I still enjoy it, I have become a real scaredy cat as I’ve hit my 50s.

Babymamamama same here, I am only just overweight (25.3) according to BMI but being small boned with a waist approaching 40 inches I know I need to get right down into the middle of healthy range.

Was inspired by activity on thread to weigh myself, regained 3 lbs. Had crumpets a couple of mornings and crisps in the evening. DH is in terrific shape, he exercises hard for an hour 6 days a week. I feel too soft and feeble to exercise but am worried I will look like his dear old mum when we go out! Though actually his real mum is scarily glamorous. Rambling now, it’s the excitement of someone posting in the thread Grin.

steppemum · 24/08/2021 23:28

Riding was great fun. I used to ride as a teen, but not really since. Dd was really keen so we went.
Bloody good work out. I used muscles I haven't used for years!

Don't compare to dh, compare to yourself. I did couch to 5K a few years ago (and then knackered my knee so don;t run now) Each week I compared myself to last week, and the week before. Was pretty encouraging actually, to go from walking to runnign 5k. Really enjoyed it before I knackered my knee.

TrueGrit54 · 30/08/2021 10:42

Hi all, how’s everyone doing? I have lost the 3 lbs I regained so in the 5 weeks I been doing this I have lost a total of 4 lbs. Today is a bbq, I will dodge the carby stuff and stick to salad and protein.

Anyone else around?

putthehamsterbackinitscage · 30/08/2021 20:31

Hi @TrueGrit54

I've been plodding on (apart from a meal out with friends on Saturday but I did try to stay mostly on plan).l

Got on the scales today ... 9.4.8 so still losing slowly - 20lb down and now have around 12 - 14 lbs to go to target. My app says I'll get to target in a November at the current rate of loss.

Starting to think about how I'll eventually transition to maintenance and effectively a new way of eating for the long term. I'm currently mostly low carb and keeping alcohol to a couple of days a week only and it's working although I'll never cut chips out completely.

putthehamsterbackinitscage · 30/08/2021 20:38

@TrueGrit54 well done on shifting that 3lb... keep dodging the carbs - it will be worth it

steppemum · 01/09/2021 10:05

well done TrueGrit.
It's bugger isn;t it? 2lbs off and 1 lb back on.

TrueGrit54 · 01/09/2021 13:40

Thanks putthehamsterbackinthecage and steppemum, yeah it really is 2lbs off and 1 lb back on. I think I also gain when I have my period and then have a good week when my period finishes. I have lost 13 lbs since January, really want to lose another half stone before our holiday in October. So annoyed I let myself gain so much in the first place.

Babymamamama · 01/09/2021 20:44

Hey all I’ve been plodding too. Still just the one meal a day but I’ve been eating more junk as part of that meal. So i haven’t lost anything much this last month. I need a kick start. But I’m not sure what or how. At least I’m not re- gaining yet anyway. Confused

steppemum · 02/09/2021 09:44

old habits creeping back in.
I am a terrible snacker. eg, last thing at night, on my way to bed, not even hungry, but I notice the delilcious new white loaf, so I just have a slice with loads of butter and marmalade.

SO UNECESSARY.

So, today, getting back into proper work, and agetting ready for school term, bakc to 12:8 and no snacks. (roll on 12 pm I'm starving already Hmm

Babymamamama · 02/09/2021 10:58

I’m going to resolve this week to cook up more veggies for my one meal a day. To really fill me up. So I don’t revert to the carbs or (dare I say it) almond magnums. Sad I never knew the second part of weight loss could be so hard. It’s like my body is saying this is me. I’m this shape. Leave me be. Honestly I’m not unhappy with how my clothes fit now (not boasting) the stone and a half I’ve lost already really helps. It’s just I’m still a smidge outside the healthy range so I know unless I make further inroads the weight will just creep back on…and I’m terrible in winter usually for the comfort eating. Good luck everyone.

TrueGrit54 · 02/09/2021 11:37

I ate a steak for the first time in months and found it filled me up better than anything else I’ve been eating, just had a few tomatoes with it. My energy levels were up the next day too. It can’t just be the iron as I eat buckets of green veg as it is. I think more protein is key for me.

I only lose weight if I have zero bread, it is the number one cause of weight gain for me. I am eating dark ryvita every day instead, also noticed I can eat potatoes (small portion) and still lose weight.

Babymamamama · 02/09/2021 12:12

Ooh I’m going to buy some ryvita today that is a great tip. Agree about bread being a complete no no. Amd yes to protein too! We are moderate carnivores and that does definitely help. My close siblings who are veggie are heavier than I am. Confused

TrueGrit54 · 02/09/2021 13:45

My digestive system is sluggish so dark rye ryvita are fab, if you are the opposite Babymamamama do go carefully, don’t eat 4 to start with or you may find you are rushing to the loo.

Babymamamama · 02/09/2021 21:45

Well now since we are being specific Smile my digestion is much slower since I started eating just one meal day to the point i was eating prunes at one stage (sorry if TMI) …but I definitely won’t overdo it with the ryvita and thanks for the warning Truegrit.

putthehamsterbackinitscage · 02/09/2021 22:48

Protein and no bread works for me too... I'm currently restricting carbs (other than veg) to just the odd portion of chips with the running club or when eating out but it's hard especially when the Dc find the tub of Ben & Jerry's that was tucked away out of sight in the freezer...

I find running and caffeine keeps things moving so I think I'll avoid the ryvita!

Proper weigh in tomorrow but as I had chips after tonight's run, I'm sharing today's weigh in case tomorrow isn't good

I’ve a busy weekend ahead so hopefully I will drop another pound from running around. It is so slow! My tummy is less huge, I’ve lost 2” off my belly button measurement.

day 1 (again!!)

well, kids back at school today, so it all really starts in earnest, so back to proper dieting.

Quite pleased that the extra has not gone back on though, been sitting at 101 for a few weeks.

Right, first goal, under 100kg.
second goal, 90 by Christmas?
That would be amazing.

TrueGrit54 · 06/09/2021 10:00

My kids are back too, the house is so quiet! Feel sorry for them back in the classroom with their heavy rucksacks and hot weather.

10 kg in 16 weeks sounds completely doable steppemum.

I want to lose 8 lbs in September. Mini break (postponed 20th wedding anniversary trip) in 4 weeks. Was rushing to go out yesterday and grabbed a pair of Gap trousers by accident, haven’t worn them in a year, assumed they wouldn’t do up but they did. Very surprised, they were uncomfortably tight on my tummy after a couple of hours but it’s progress. It’s motivated me to try hard this week. Going out to buy lots of salad stuff for our mini heatwave.

Anyone else want to update? It would be lovely to have some more company.

putthehamsterbackinitscage · 06/09/2021 10:04

Go @steppemum - it's a good target to set and though it won't be easy I think it's doable...

What approach are you taking... calorie counting, low carb , SW, Ww?

Had a busy weekend - really active day Saturday, less do yesterday, a nice meal out Saturday night but avoided dessert and yesterday I experimented with a new ice cream maker - reduced the sugar in the recipe by 1/3 and swapped 50% of the remainder for erythritol ... really good result but still quite sweet so I'll drop the sugar still further next time 👍.

And in spite of that, weighed in at 9.2.8 this morning so another drop over the week...

putthehamsterbackinitscage · 06/09/2021 10:07

@TrueGrit54 you posted while I was trying to type my post 😃

The trousers definitely count as an NSV... and 8lb in 4 weeks is doable too...

Quiet here today as everyone else has gone out of the house to work... I'm sat at my laptop looking for motivation 😉
