@HowlingGale yes it was the Astra Zeneca I had this morning, just thought if I start both together it may be confusing know where any (if any) symptoms are coming from

MolotovMocktail · 10/03/2021 14:15

Chrissols I had some nausea for a few days after the AZ vaccine and have had a bit of nausea from my starting dose of saxenda - maybe I am just a nauseous person Grin but something to bear in mind. Have had dose 2 of saxenda now and feel fine so far.

andadietcoke · 10/03/2021 14:25

@Chrissols I've been struggling to get anywhere near 1000 calories a day so I've been having the odd creme egg on occasion!

Chrissols · 10/03/2021 14:32

@andadietcoke do you mean you get full before managing to eat 1000 calories? that sounds fantastic. What foods do you suggest avoiding altogether to minimise risk of nausea?

andadietcoke · 10/03/2021 14:38

Yes exactly. Although I'm going too far the other way and really not eating enough (and exercising on top of that).

I haven't had nausea at all really apart from the very first day. I inject at bedtime. I made myself feel really unwell / over full the other night because I had a few chips with a medium sized steak. Only managed half the steak and felt ill until the next morning. Otherwise I'm on a handful of salad and a fist sized portion of protein. For lunch I had half a carton of soup and was full. It's utterly bizarre.

Chrissols · 10/03/2021 14:52

@andadietcoke and what fruits are okay to eat? I love fruit but want to stock up on the ones that aren't likely to make me fell ill

MooChops89 · 10/03/2021 15:05

Hello, I've been on Sax since mid January and have lost 1st 1lb so far Smile
I've been calorie counting 1450 alongside it, it hasn't massively suppressed my appetite but it has made it easier to stick to my calorie allowance. I've still had days where I've gone mad and eaten everything on sight! I made it up to 2.4 but wasn't eating any less and I felt like I was wasting money so I took a 5 day break and restarted last Wednesday, have lost 4lb this week and finding it easier to stick to my calories again. No real side effects apart from constipation, having to take 2 senokot every few days.
I started calorie counting in October, lost 8lb up to January so it was slow going and the Sax has definitely given me a boost. Had 5st to lose in total, almost 2st down so a way to go! However I'm currently the lightest I've been in at least 10 years so I'm happy!

andadietcoke · 10/03/2021 16:09

@Chrissols you can eat anything you want. Only overeating has made me feel ill.

Chrissols · 10/03/2021 16:10

@andadietcoke but aren't there some things that make you feel more nauseous?

CelestialGalaxy · 10/03/2021 16:27

Hi I'm feeling disheartened 😟. I have been so good only eating within certain hours no really heavy meals, no chocolate or bread at all in the last week and still no 'output' despite the dulcolax and my weight went up today...have eaten a load of chocolate raisins in desperation Blush

andadietcoke · 10/03/2021 16:31

@Chrissols not for me, no.

Chrissols · 10/03/2021 16:35

@andadietcoke that sounds good, I was led to believe anything to do with carbs would make me want to vomit...

HowlingGale · 10/03/2021 16:45

Moochops I didn't realise you could stop using Saxenda for a few days and then resume use again. For some reason I thought the effect was cumulative. Did you find your appetite returned with a vengeance when you stopped using it for those five days?

And why is everyone complaining of constipation? is this a known side effect of the drug or is it a case that you're just eating less - so therefore less bowel action ,so to speak!

(well done on your weight loss so far, you're making great progress!)

CelestialGalaxy · 10/03/2021 16:51

@howlinggale yep known side effect but even if I ate like a sparrow ive had no 💩 for 11 days!

andadietcoke · 10/03/2021 16:53

@HowlingGale it's because it slows gut motility - food moves through you slower so you feel less hungry.

@Chrissols oh god no. I've had bread, pitta, wraps, rice - no issues with any of them.

shutterteal · 10/03/2021 17:15

Joining the thread as I start tomorrow. It's interesting to read all your points. Thanks

Chrissols · 10/03/2021 17:35

@shutterteal snap....just going to collect mine now, but going to take it in the morning

Chrissols · 10/03/2021 18:54

Does the needle actually hurt?

andadietcoke · 10/03/2021 19:07

A tiny sting. In three weeks of doing it I've only had one which actually hurt. Still have no idea why.

HowlingGale · 10/03/2021 20:30

chrissols no the needle doesn't hurt at all, bizarrely I never feel it go in and have to watch to make sure I haven't missed! I was a bit squeamish the first time I did it, but it's fine, I just shove it in my rolls of belly fat. Plenty of areas to inject!!
Upped my dose from 0.6 to 1.2 today and now have a bit of a headache. But that might just be a coincidence. Am waiting for the complete lack of hunger to kick in which other people on this thread refer to! The drug has definitely blunted my appetite, to the extent that it has enabled me to stick to a sensible diet, but I still get cravings and feel hungry in the evening. I just feel better able to control it!

MooChops89 · 10/03/2021 21:02

HowlingGale I'd seen a few people on the FB who said they'd tried a reset. It's a bit risky in that it doesn't always work, some found the Sax had no effect at all once they restarted but others said it was more effective.
It stays in your system for around 3 days, which is why they advise that if you miss 3 doses you should start from 0.6 to reduce side effects.
My appetite was fine for the first 3 days, I'd actually planned to have a week's break but then had 2 days of being ravenous (still calorie counting but eating double my allowance) so I restarted on day 5 and thankfully it does seem to be working!
It's hard to know if it really does work for me or if it's just a placebo as I don't really get the nausea etc that others do. I definitely couldn't survive on under 1000 cals! But this feels more sustainable for me - eating what my body needs and fuelling it properly so that when I finish the Sax I don't just go back to eating so much crap!

Chrissols · 11/03/2021 08:54

Just taken first dose......absolutely shocked at how little I felt, hope I did it correctly

andadietcoke · 11/03/2021 09:35

@Chrissols hope you fare well with side effects. If you struggle try switching to night time. Drink lots of water especially if you feel a bit sick.

Chrissols · 11/03/2021 09:39

@andadietcoke thank you for the advice, I was thinking I should of waited till tonight but was too eager to get started. I will wait till midday tomorrow then evening on Saturday

25yearsnhsworker · 11/03/2021 09:44

Wow some great losses.
Is this prescribed by GP?
I have tried xenicol in the past with no success.
