I’ve taken the plunge and ordered.

I am a bit nervous. And know not everyone responds to it but feel it’s worth a shot.

Was pretty shocked this morning when I weighed myself and worked out bmi at 34

I am concerned about the potential health risk (cancer) but feel that if it works I will be reducing my risk of stroke, cancer and a myriad of other things related to obesity.

I think my biggest worry is the end game as there seems little info about this on line apart from that regain is likely after you stop.
Having lost significant weight in the past and regained it I know how soul destroying that is and how it messes with my head.
But suppose that even dropping weight then slowly regaining some/all is better than spending longer at this weight and potentially gaining even more.

JetSetWilly · 02/09/2021 13:32

Hi @NautaOcts, I understand your trepidation! I am a little too. But I've read enough and am happy with my decision. I have also watched quite a lot of youtube videos on people's journeys on Saxenda which has been very useful.

For me personally, this is a short term solution which will get me back on track to my usual weight. Over the last four years I would say I have put on weight following giving up smoking, then giving up work, then lockdowns. Pleased to say I'm still not smoking and am now back at work (albeit at my desk) but hopefully will be back in the office (and a bit more active) soon. Like you I am shocked that my BMI is over 30 as I've never been this heavy and previously always maintained a BMI of probably about 22?

I am using this as a reset, so I am incorporating a routine of exercise and healthy eating alongside it because I think that will be much easier to do at the start and then in one or two months hopefully it will be routine? I am probably going to try to follow the Fast 800 diet alongside the jabs and have been following threads on here and am reading the book to help with that. Exercise, I am going to start by going on long walks and short runs (like literally 15mins) until I've lost a bit of weight and it gets easier to increase. If you are able to run, couch25k is really good to get you started.

JetSetWilly · 02/09/2021 13:36

Also, my pens are being delivered today. Unsure if you used Pharmacy2u NautaOcts but if you did, my prescription was approved last Friday with delivery today (and a bank holiday in between) so quite quick really

MissBridgetJones · 02/09/2021 21:48

Day 3 for me... had a headache all day, nothing major just a bit irritating.

My appetite has nose dived... not sure if it's more psychological at this stage?

Trying to drink 2 litres of water, and have replaced wine with slimline tonic. I'm weeing like a racehorse!!

AKay19 · 03/09/2021 01:06

Hello All,

I’ve been following this thread for a short while and have found everyone very helpful, thank you.

To respond to the the user asking re London Slimming clinic, yes I’ve ordered my injection from them, very quick delivery and safely delivered.

So i do recommended plus code for free access to the Liva app.

I understand many have had some fantastic results, my weight loss has been slow and steady, I had hit a wall with traditional weight loss methods so decided to try Saxenda.

In all I’ve shifted around 6lb in over a month.
But I’m remaining positive as I haven’t made massive dietary changes.

I watch my daily calories but with similar good groups (usually healthy and mix)
It’s helped me with snacking which was my weakness.

Trying to get long walks in few times a week but not completed any high intense exercise sessions which I would have to do at least three times per week to budge any weight usually.

So I am seeing this positively.
I think if I combine three high intensity sessions per week along with calories under 12-1300 I think I will definitely see a lot more loss and that’s the aim now, as I have got through the awful side effects.

I’m currently just gone up to 1.8mg after 5-6 weeks.

JetSetWilly · 03/09/2021 10:30

Hi all, this all sounds promising. I started last night and all OK this morning. In line with Fast 800 I am not eating today until midday. Feel fine doing this at the minute would love to eat now but not overly hungry. I usually have a wine on a Friday night but I think i'm going to skip for now as I don't want to make myself feel unwell - I think somebody said upthread that they were ill after wine? do you plan to increase dose @MissBridgetJones? And do you have any side affects @AKay19?

DorothyVallens · 04/09/2021 12:34

Hello, can I join you? NC'd for this but I've been on MN for 13+ years :) I've read the thread, some very helpful info, thank you!

I ordered online and did first jab on Thursday night. I wasn't even convinced I'd done it properly as I didn't feel a thing. I had very little appetite yesterday, had some toast late morning, dinner last night, only ate about half of what I'd usually polish off, a small G&T, light on the G, and as I was a bit peckish later in the evening, a slice of toast and a small hot choc before bed. SW was 15st 2 lbs, heaviest ever, I weighed this morning and almost 5lbs down. I wasn't hungry at all this morning, although I woke up with a headache and felt a bit like I had a mild hangover. I made pancakes for DS, normally I'd have at least one as well, but just didn't fancy it.

I've been overweight for as long as I can remember, the fat lass at school, experienced years of shame from my family (who are well-meaning but can be brutal!), less overweight at times than others and even was a 'normal' weight when I was aged 16 - 21. I lost around 3 stone when I was going through medical treatment a few years ago, ironically when I was most ill, I looked better than in years! That loss has crept back on thanks to some of the long term meds I'm on, early menopause and, let's be honest, mostly due to sitting on my backside for most of lockdown.

I love food, I love cooking, I love eating out, and portion size and unhealthy snacks, particularly in the evening, are my downfall. I'm aiming to stick to two portion controlled meals a day, up my water intake, take my vits and supplements - omegas/fish oil, collagen powder, vit d and calcium, curcumin and a general multi vit, plus psyllium husk capsules to avoid getting bunged up!! My first target is to lose 2 stone to get from 'obese' to 'overweight' and then another 2 stone to get to 'normal' BMI.

I had covid last year, during which I had no appetite at all - hungry but couldn't face food - and lost almost a stone in a week, so I know it can be done, although most of that stone went straight back on over Christmas.

I see that some people have taken a break, I'm hoping to go away for a week in October (restrictions permitting, etc) and I'd prefer not to take sax with me - has anyone taken a week off and how did you get on afterwards?

Hope everyone is having a good weekend!

NautaOcts · 04/09/2021 12:38

Thank you @JetSetWilly
I’m going to give it a go, have the pens in the fridge ready and waiting and I think will inject tonight as going forward evenings might be better even tho part of me wants to start right now 😂
Good luck to every body x

I’m going to try and mainly focus on breaking free of bingeing, and re engaging with eating to appetite. Eat when I’m hungry stop when I’m full. And be mindful to make sure the calories I’m taking in are good and nutritious 👍 also to get back to exercising.
So that’s the theory!

JetSetWilly · 05/09/2021 19:12

Nice to meet you @DorothyVallens, we started about the same time I think, will be good to go though this with a few others. Like you I'm also taking multivits and I'm also taking prebiotics and upping my water intake. Have lost 1.5kgs so far. Have been sticking to the Fast800 diet and not too difficult at the moment. Had a headache yesterday when I woke up and a touch of tummy last night but other than that OK - much better than I thought actually, considering I haven't really eaten much carbs or sugar (something that I pretty much ate constantly before).

How did you get on @NautaOcts? All OK? I've been injecting at night time also as I understand it lessens side effect, may move to morning time eventually as it's the evening when I want to start snacking and grazing

MagnificentMoustache · 05/09/2021 22:02

I started last Tuesday. I found the injecting really easy and barely noticeable pain wise. I’ve been doing mine just before bed and have found I’ve slept better because it makes me feel tired.

I feel like it worked instantly although it might just be psychosomatic. We took our kids to Five Guys yesterday and normally I’d have been desperate to get one too but I just didn’t care. I bought a jacket potato and only managed half. I just don’t feel hungry and eating junk just isn’t appealing to me. It sounds mad but usually I’d obsess about having missed out and been depressed about it but I just didn’t care. I tried a piece of the new chocolate and had to spit it out. I had half a bacon sandwich yesterday because I’d just had enough. It’s really strange.

We joined the gym about 6 weeks ago and have been trying to eat better. Since starting Saxenda I’ve not had more than 1000 calories a day. I try and exercise for an hour most days be it a walk or tennis/badminton. I’m also doing a daily multi vitamin, cod liver oil and vitamin D tablet.

I weighed myself when I started and was 18st 2lbs. I’ve just weighed myself and I’m now 17st 5lbs. That said I was on my period when I started and sometimes weigh more then. Either way I’m happy with that progress.

NautaOcts · 06/09/2021 07:17

I did 2nd injection last night, not felt any effects until this morning when I have a terrible terrible headache. Hoping painkillers will help.

NautaOcts · 06/09/2021 07:22

Oh yes… definitely nausea too

DorothyVallens · 06/09/2021 09:33

You too @JetSetWilly.

Night time is still my 'danger zone' when I want a snack, so I'm moving my jab to an earlier time and trying to break my bad evening overeating. I'm going to try Habitual and/or Exante sachets and bars so I know exactly how many cals I'm consuming. 1 or 2 of those during the day depending on hunger levels, starting as late as possible in the day to extend overnight fast window, then a low carb portion controlled dinner. That still gives me a bit of wiggle room for a small bedtime snack.

I think if I can crack the evening cravings, I'll do ok, I'm pretty much fine during the day, and was without Sax.

Good luck to everyone this week!

Same! the injecting part was the bit I was most nervous about, but it really was fine and has been - small bruise on occasion but I have been rotating left tummy, right tummy, left thigh, right thigh, unsure if i want to inject upper arm? Your progress is amazing MM!

@NautaOcts I had a terrible headache most of the second day too, paracetamol cleared it but I had to take some in the afternoon too. Nothing now though - I hope it's the same for you. Unsure if its a side effect or change in diet? Either way I'm fine today.

What time do you inject currently @DorothyVallens ? I'm still nighttime but may switch to morning at some point - wanted to ensure I was OK with side effects at the start. Everything you say sounds like a good plan and very similar to what I am doing. I'm following the Fast800 so low carb, 800 cals a day skipping breakfast and eating in a 8 hour window (12-8 currently although I may change to 11-7 as they say your last meal should be at least three hours before bed). I'm logging calories on MyFitnessPal (although it tells me off for logging too little so if anybody has any other suggestions for another app that would be useful)

I bought some pee sticks from Amazon and it looks as though I'm in ketosis which I think is good for weight loss.

so yes good luck to everybody this week! Looking forward to checking in with you all

DorothyVallens · 07/09/2021 13:23

I started injecting at around 8pm @JetSetWilly, thinking that it's the time that I can consistently stick to due to work, mum taxi-ing, etc and perhaps the best time for dealing with potential side effects. Thanks for reminding me about sticking to an 8 hour window to eat.

So far, I've had no or very little hunger and no cravings during the day, but not in the evening, and was really struggling last night with both. Gave in and had a small piece of toast and a low cal hot choc and went to bed early! I'm going to gradually move my time forward but also see if the hunger and cravings even out as - hopefully - I reach a steady level of the drug in my system.

I've managed to stick to 800 - 1200 cals every day since starting though, so quite pleased with that.

Any top tips in general from those who've been on it longer?

MissBridgetJones · 07/09/2021 19:02

@JetSetWilly

Hi all, this all sounds promising. I started last night and all OK this morning. In line with Fast 800 I am not eating today until midday. Feel fine doing this at the minute would love to eat now but not overly hungry. I usually have a wine on a Friday night but I think i'm going to skip for now as I don't want to make myself feel unwell - I think somebody said upthread that they were ill after wine? do you plan to increase dose *@MissBridgetJones? And do you have any side affects @AKay19*?
Increased today to 1.2 - feel absolutely fine, but like others have said come evening circa 10 post injection I don't want to eat at all. Zero appetite, which means I'm not really wanting an evening meal. To be fair I have always wanted lunch more than dinner!

Was going to treat myself to a glass of wine tonight as away with work - what's this about making people feel ill ??? Sad

MissBridgetJones · 07/09/2021 19:07

Meant to say that this thread is really useful - was reassuring that the day 2 headache is a thing and that that others found an almost immediate dip in appetite.

AKay19 · 07/09/2021 20:16

Apologies for the late reply

@JetSetWilly
The side effects I had were-
Nausea
Headache only the day after increasing dose
A lot of palpitations, I noticed from from my fit bit my resting heart rate has increased from 63-66 to 83 at one point which worried me but after the symptoms settled my heart rate is now decreasing and at 73.

I’m currently between 1.2 + 5 clicks and 1.8, increasing my dose slowly has helped massively.

I managed to shift 3.6lbs last week which was fantastic.
I’m using mfpal with calories aimed no more than 1300calories and then ensuring I can calculate a good deficit depending on my BMR and daily calorie usage.

NautaOcts · 07/09/2021 23:08

I hope everyone is getting on ok
I’m on day 4 now and side effects have been ok - worst was terrible headache on day 2 or 3 and some tiredness today but that could just be back to work/school. My eating has been better each day too and it’s enabled me to fast only eating 12-7 with ease. I don’t have that feeling of not being able to eat though, like some have said. And if stuff was there in front of me I definitely would especially afternoon and evening.

I noticed on the fb group some people are taking the approach of staying on each dose longer rather than tritating up once a week like is suggested. I wondered what you guys are planning to do?
Some suggest staining on 0.6 for example as long as it feels effective but in don’t know if this is mainly a cost thing.
But on the other hand I suppose it’s always good to have less drugs in your body.

JetSetWilly · 08/09/2021 19:50

Hi everybody, just checking in.

Like you @DorothyVallens I'm so pleased I've been able to stick to 800-1000 cals a day. It's been so nice not eating for no reason, constantly eating carbs and snacking. I had a really good night's sleep last night and felt so good when I woke up this morning. My skin feels smoother, I just felt lighter and I'm sure my clothes are not as tight as well. I've lost nearly 2kgs so far and I've worked out that I will be my goal weight by the end of December if I stick with it. fingers crossed. Ideally I would like to lose more than that every week but I realise I will need to up the exercise to do that (which I may well do).

I agree @MissBridgetJones this thread has been really helpful! Do you inject in the morning? I may work my way towards that. I'll be honest over the course of a few days I read this entire thread Blush and I'm sure somebody said they had some wine and felt rough the next day (but guess you may anyway!). I'm somebody else has a G&T (with not too much G!) and I don't think they said it was a problem. I'm sure you can drink on it, it's just not recommended as it will slow your weight loss and not ideal if you have diabetes etc

My nausea has gone thank goodness @AKay19 and I also had the headache. Same as you my resting heart rate has gone up but nothing alarming. Also had to take two senakot two days ago which was annoying. All OK now but I hope that won't be a regular thing. Your progress has been great, well done! I am following a similar routine, checking my calorie deficit but also fasting 8pm to 12 noon.

I'm at the one week mark @NautaOcts so ordinarily would up dose tonight. I'm unsure what I'm doing yet, don't think I will increase to 1.2 straightaway as I'm going OK at the minute and don't really want to risk getting a headache or any other side effects as I"m doing OK today. May be 0.6 and one click? Let me know what you decide

JetSetWilly · 09/09/2021 09:43

Decided on 0.6 and five clicks in the end. Then realised it was tonight I should up my dose Hmmwill let you know how I get on. No weight loss this morning but still feeling very light and refreshed so will take those small wins Smile
