Oh god, I've just spent today eating everything in sight Confused I was hoping to stay on the low dose for as long as possible to save money, but I am guessing this means I need to go up ASAP. Should I go up by one click (I'm on 0.8) or did most of you go up to the next "proper dose" straight away??

Shanghaisprize · 05/07/2021 14:28

Hello all. I'm on week 7 of Saxenda and have lost 20 labs so far, want to lose around 3 more stone. I had no appetite at all for the first few weeks, Adult DS was highly amused to see me trying to force down a couple of Jaffa cakes some days as I couldn't face much else but needed something before my shift - I can usually polish off a pack VERY easily.

The side effects were pretty brutal some days, especially the nausea and constipation, however most have gone now. BUT - I've noticed that my appetite has increased since I've been on full dose - it's still blunted and I still get full quicker, just means I have to apply willpower now too whereas I didn't before. Anyway, we will see - going to stick with it for now and up the exercise.

jasminoide · 05/07/2021 20:56

Well done everyone!

How do you know when the pen is finished? Does the liquid in the window thing just keep going down? I'm going to try to stay on 0.6 as long as possible, I won't be able to afford it long term and anyway I'm trying to reset my sugar intake and resist succumbing to cravings. I'm going on holiday in a few weeks so won't be able to take it on the flight, would it keep for a few weeks in the fridge until I come back?

Shanghaisprize · 06/07/2021 05:30

When the pen is finished, the orange bit in the liquid under the glass will go right to the top, and the dosage part will only go round until the dose left in it if any (hope that makes sense).

I've had times when there is still 0.8/ 1.8 left, if that happens now I inject that, then inject the rest (up to 3) from the new pen - too expensive too waste. BUT - I still have enough fat on my stomach to not feel (or mind) the injection part Grin.

I think you could take on holiday if you wanted - not a lot liquid in them. They'll keep in the fridge unopened for quite a while, but once opened there is a time limit (think 28 days but need to check that).

Good luck - I can't afford long term, but it's still been good as an initial boost to get those first couple of stone or so off - I've found that a motivator in itself.

jasminoide · 06/07/2021 11:44

That's so helpful, thank you. Re taking it on a flight, I was thinking of the needles more, would it be possible for me to buy them in a pharmacy (UK)?

Shanghaisprize · 06/07/2021 23:26

Hmm - I reckon you'd be OK with the needles (and pen) as long as you took a copy of the prescription with you. I'm not sure if you can buy needles in Uk pharmacies I'm afraid as have never tried, I assume you can though as they're the same as the insulin ones that they do sell.

jasminoide · 07/07/2021 09:06

5lb off this week! I think I've lost a good few inches too as my jeans are feeling very loose around my legs.

Shanghaisprize · 07/07/2021 12:14

Well done!! Yes, so lovely when those clothes start to feel loser instead of tighter!

Elflockbubble · 08/07/2021 21:28

Hi all, joining in if you don’t mind.
On day 2 of saxenda - 0.6 no pain or side effects (so far)

Very different experience at Lloyd’s with me …. They didn’t even take my name or mobile number never mind my weight or blood pressure 🤔

Was very odd and she just told me to ring ‘whenever I ran out’ and she will order me more.

Very odd … I have 6 stone to lose (ideally 8) so she could probably assume my bmi was high enough just by looking.

Anyway ! Lots of positivy on this thread and some awesome losses so wish me luck x

andadietcoke · 09/07/2021 07:39

@Elflockbubble that's not right at all!! You're supposed to get info on the app, weekly check ins when you start, and then monthly obs checks. Did they give you a little folder on what to expect? Without the additional service you may as well get it all on the internet and save a few £

WhenZoomWasJustAnIceLolly · 09/07/2021 10:50

Hello! I’ve been injecting saxenda for 7 weeks and lost a stone and a half in that time. I had lost weight before starting saxenda so have lost 3st overall.

Recently the saxenda doesn’t seem to be working as well. I’m on the 3mg dose so it is really expensive. I haven’t lost any weight this week. When I first started I struggled to eat at all.

Has anyone had the same experience? Would stopping and restarting help?

Elflockbubble · 09/07/2021 11:52

I know reading this thread I’m thinking I must be missing something. There was a green booklet but with two things inside:
1 leaflet with a woman on and inside explaining how saxenda works
The other was a booklet basically explaining how to increase the dosage and how the pen works. Xx

andadietcoke · 09/07/2021 11:57

@WhenZoomWasJustAnIceLolly just be patient. Weight loss isn't linear and lots of people have plateaus. Weight loss also slows down massively after the first few weeks.

WhenZoomWasJustAnIceLolly · 09/07/2021 12:05

Thank you DietCoke!

andadietcoke · 09/07/2021 13:23

@WhenZoomWasJustAnIceLolly

Thank you DietCoke!
I know it's easy for me to say. But I've been there I promise, and I've just read it back and it sounded patronising, it wasn't my intention at all, but if i'd listed all the different things id considered in terms of dosage / variables / eating too little / eating too much / injection site / time of injection / water intake / exercise / restart / don't restart i'd have gone mad. Instead now I weigh once a week, stick at 3mg, track what I eat, and trust in the process. Saves a lot of frustration.
WhenZoomWasJustAnIceLolly · 09/07/2021 14:47

It didn’t sound patronising at all! Thanks so much!
I think because at first I had no appetite and was managing three meals replacement shakes a day and not hungry, I’m finding it harder now that my appetite has come back a little. It’s just not as easy and I will have to find my willpower! As well as starting to learn some healthy eating.

jasminoide · 09/07/2021 16:11

I'm unlikely to buy more pens after mine runs out so staying on 0.6 until it runs out. I've started getting hungrier in the last few days so this is where my willpower needs to kick in. I've found the 'what do skinny people eat' thread and the one about why people get fat really helpful.

Orangesox · 11/07/2021 15:27

Oh marvellous, really pleased to have found this thread as I've just started Saxenda (first dose last night). It's been great to read through the posts and follow the journeys, so thanks to all that are contributing!

Mostly feeling okay other than a little nauseated / full today but nothing major. Not interested in food but I can't quite tell if that's placebo/willpower or if it's Saxenda induced... we shall see! Hoping to be back with a loss of some sort next weekend Grin

Elflockbubble · 12/07/2021 00:14

Husband did the jab in my right arm for me today - first time it’s stung! Will stick to belly I think

jasminoide · 12/07/2021 12:02

Elf I made the mistake of trying my leg once and promptly went back to my stomach!
I'm not feeling great and missed my injection last night, and woke up starving with my tummy grumbling for the first time since I started. I'll have to rely on my willpower today.

AlphabetAerobics · 14/07/2021 12:20

hello! I've just started week 3 and am at 0.6 (+6 clicks) and I'm planning to keep at that dose until it no longer works! I'm down 16lbs and feeling really happy with it. I inject at 8pm and I've always been happy to do injections as my mum was Type I diabetic, so it' always been pretty normal growing up.

Only another 5 stone to go...

Amazing ! You’re doing so well.

Week 1 for me and 9lbs down. Feeling motivated and just gone up from 0.6 to 1.2… no side effects yet (touch wood) bar toilet troubles.

I too have at least 5 stone to go.

Does anyone notice their appetite coming back ? I had barely any days 1-5 but yesterday was ravenous ! Hoping upping the dose today helps things.

WhenZoomWasJustAnIceLolly · 14/07/2021 17:03

I noticed my appetite coming back when it was time to increase the dose! Unfortunately it’s happened on the 3mg dose and can’t go up any further so i’m having to find my willpower.

peachgreen · 14/07/2021 23:58

Hey all, just joining the thread. I'm starting on Friday and feeling very anxious but I can't live this way any more. I believe I have the willpower to maintain once I get to where I want to be but I really need a kickstart. I'm 19st 4lbs at 5'7" and my first goal is 15st. I've been overweight since I was a child and always coped with it okay but my husband died suddenly last year and I now feel I have to ensure I'm around as long as possible for DD. So I have good motivation.

Already feeling nervous about the side effects and about what happens when you inevitably have to come off it. But I need to try something.

andadietcoke · 15/07/2021 10:18

Hi @peachgreen I'm sorry for your loss.
Saxenda has been transformational for me. I started at the end of February. I inject at night which I think has helped with side effects, and I'm over three stone down. Aiming to lose another stone on it - probably another couple of months - and then switch to Slimming World for the last stone.
