Anyone keen for a 6 week challenge?

I do well with shorter goals and am hoping to focus on shifting some weight and being more active.

Anyone else care to join and see how much weight we can shift (sensibly!) in the next 6 weeks?

People are welcome to join anytime, I personally will be counting from Monday 7th until March 22nd. I was hit pretty hard by lockdown and am the biggest I’ve ever been... I’ve already managed to shift a little bit of weight, now looking to tackle my long term eating habits and sedentary lifestyle in the coming period.

I’ll be sticking to the following :

  1. No snacking.
  2. 5 fruit/veg per day, protein source at every meal.
  3. Trying to hit 10,000 steps a day.

Other than that, I’m not following any diet in particular, I’m trying to change my habits for the long haul. And of course, being comfortable in summer will be an added bonus!

In these 6 weeks, I’m hoping to shift 8-9 pounds, as well as losing a couple of inches off my belly and bum.

Any takers?

Can I join? I'm just coming to the end of a whole30 month, will weigh myself Saturday when it finishes but I have 2 and a half stone to lose - love to have one and a half gone for Easter .
I've had no sugar, grains , alcohol or dairy for 25 days so hope I've lost some already 😆

ClaraTheImpossibleGirl · 08/02/2021 13:59

I would love to join Grin I have my own mini goal of losing half a stone by the time the schools go back (March 8th - well, at the moment!) - once the DC are back I can start running again. I'd got up to week 8 of C25K but am nowhere near that standard now...

Like @clto2021 I have the best part of 4 stones to lose Sad which is about the same weight as DS1 Sad Sad I keep reminding myself of this when I pick him up!!

I'm following WW - not evangelically, just to remind me not to eat crap all day of better food choices - doing a daily workout (PE with Joe today!) and aiming for 10K steps a day. Which was easy in the summer when the DC would go to the park for ages; today with the snow drifting down and everywhere freezing cold, I'm struggling to get them outside at all Confused

Slow and steady wins the race! I've been overweight for a number of years and it has started to snowball over this past year. Time for my to firmly take charge!

I've lost quite a bit of weight before, but I was on a very restrictive diet and it just wasn't sustainable. I'm looking to lose the weight slowly, through changing my habits. It absolutely needs to be something I can keep up for life, more or less. Or else I'll find myself losing the same 2 stone over and over again!

I've just done the food shop for this week as well, lots of fruit, veg, eggs and fish! I'll update later to say how the day has gone!

I'll join! I've got about 4 stone to lose in total. Have lost 9lbs so far, but have PCOS so it's very slow progress. Would love to have lost another 6-8lbs in 6 weeks time

NoNameNellie · 08/02/2021 16:12

@Carriemac

That sounds really interesting! Have you been hungry whilst following that plan? Please do update when you weight in, I'd be really interested to see how it's gone for you!

Done a YouTube work out and a walk. Hard to get the heart rate up on the walk when pushing a buggy and spotting birds with a small child. Still, better than nowt.

Breakfast - grapefruit and black coffee
Dinner- tuna on one slice of wholemeal, no butter.
Tea - a wrap with hummous, spinach and red pepper.

I eat tea early and that's me done for the day.

NoJetter · 08/02/2021 16:52

I’ll join too if that’s ok. I’ve been cutting out all junk food since the start of January, trying to walk as much as possible but still recovering from spinal surgery I had in December so I’m still not walking as much as I’d like but getting there. I’m logging all food on Fibit and staying under 1200 calories a day. It has been an eye opener as to how my portion sizes were way off and now I’ve got used to eating less it is quite easy and I’m enjoying eating healthy food and feel like I’ve got a lot more energy.

Starting point was 86.4kg and I’ve lost nearly 6kg and I’m now 80.5kg. I want to get back to my pre baby weight of 63kg so I still have a long way to go.

Fembot123 · 08/02/2021 16:59

Body combat on YouTube this morning, frittata with a prawn salad for lunch and Indonesian satay skewers with sticky rice for dinner. Hopefully scales will arrive this week so I know what I’m dealing with 😃

That’s awesome, well done.

@NoJetter

Wow, go you! That's such awesome work!

I know what you mean about portion sizes, once you really start to look at how much a portion size is, it's crazy how you can over estimate what you should be eating. I'm also trying to eat a smaller portion and then finish a meal with fruit or a yogurt to stave off the "must eat more" feeling. And also, learning to not look for that "full" feeling.

OP posts:
NoJetter · 08/02/2021 18:27

Yes definitely. I weigh my food out now and I realised that I was probably having at least twice the amount of cereal to what is recommended as a portion before! So about 500 calories wasted on cereal! It did take me a week or so to get used to having smaller portions but I definitely have now.

I’d say it also took me a while to distinguish between actual hunger and just ‘not full’ I think I’d been eating so much any time I felt not full I thought I was hungry Blush

Carriemac · 08/02/2021 19:19

Interestingly I have not been hungry at all. More unsatisfied, if you know what I mean.
I’ve cracked my sugar cravings, and the only bit of the programme I haven’t complexly stuck too is the no alcohol, I’ve had a Friday night vodka and soda water with lime or lemon or blood orange.

My skin is actually glowing, I think I may have an issue with dairy so I am going to reintroduce lactotofree milk first and see how I do.

NoNameNellie · 08/02/2021 19:33

@Carriemac

Oh wow! Really interesting to hear about you skin, I've had a few years of IBS symptoms, but never been able to quite nail down the food group that causes havoc. I don't eat a lot of dairy, but that could be something to check out.

Well done to everyone who got out and exercised today! And to everyone who was motivated and stuck to their goals! If for whatever reason, today wasn't your day, that's OK, tomorrow in a new chance to tackle things.

My day went as follows :
B : Nothing (usual for me).
L: Homemade lasagne and salad.
Snack: Fruit yogurt.
D: Asian slaw salad, roasted cauliflower and pan fried cod. 1 piece of kiwi fruit.

I also managed 13,300 steps! Really pleased with that!

I'm not usually a breakfast person, but I was absolutely starving today - I can only imagine it's the increased exercise, which is interesting. I plan to get up early and do something tomorrow, so I'll plan breakfast and see how that goes. I'm hoping not to have anything between lunch and dinner tomorrow, but I was so ravenous today that I reminded myself to take baby steps to health, and that meant listening to my body if it was hungry.

How did everyone else get on?

Hi! I'd like to join in, please. I've been on the diet since Novemeber and lost 8kg. I'm 71.5kg now, I'd like to lose 2.5kg within 3 weeks, by the end of February. Then I'll be with normal BMI. I don't follow any particular diet, just eat less. I use Slimfast shakes for convinience.

NoNameNellie · 08/02/2021 20:09

@Turefu

Welcome! And wow, you're doing amazing! 8kg is brilliant!

https://whole30.com

This explains it -!it's a free online programme that eliminates sugar wheat and dairy and alcohol for 30 days and then you do a staged reintroduction to see what your triggers are .
And you lose weight Grin but that's not the 'aim'

RubyGoat · 08/02/2021 20:17

Ooh, me too. I've lost 6lb since Christmas. Been more or less doing Primal. Much easier than regular low carbing. I did just have a couple of days off though as I've had an absolutely shocking migraine, had to eat whatever I could keep down. I want to lose about another 2-3 st.

Needsmustnow · 08/02/2021 21:43

I had a good day. Ran, did my weights and yoga and got my steps in. I meditated. I ate lots of veggies.

Then I had a falling out with DP so ended up comforting myself / rebelling with a Diet Coke and Blue Riband chocolate bar, both completely emotional eating Sad

10kaDay · 08/02/2021 21:44

Great idea for a focused few weeks! I’m aiming for 1st off ... from today until around end of March

I’ve lost 18 pounds since Xmas but starting to be a bit naughty on the snacks, so great to keep a short term goal on the horizon!

LivingMyBestLife2020 · 08/02/2021 22:01

I’d like to join please. 11 stone on the dot, up from 9st 4 before lockdown! I’m horrified and feel disgusting

RunnyPaint · 08/02/2021 22:04

I'd like to sign up! So many of you have had a great start to the year, by the sound of things. I have been putting on weight over the last year, and that now needs to be stopped and reversed. The plan involves stopping the booze and crisps for a while, and opting for healthier snacks instead. It's been a week so far; I weighed myself this morning and discovered that I've made no progress at all so far. Not sure I even feel any better for being alcohol-free for 8 days... Oh well, onwards and upwards.

SaraJS216 · 08/02/2021 22:37

I'd like to join please!
Around 3 stone to lose, I'm the heaviest I've ever been since having DD 8 months ago (other than when I was full term..).
Started restricting calories today and logging on Fitbit. Limiting to 1500/day, today's number was 1396.

glitterbubbles · 08/02/2021 22:40

Please can I join!
Will start tomorrow as today was awful food wise for me 😂
Starting weight 69kg
Would like to be at 57kg by May at least

Lostsoul231 · 08/02/2021 23:02

Had a good start today. Avoided snacking, which is usually a big temptation for me. Just had a banana before going on a dog walk. Didn’t achieve the amount of steps I’d hoped to do (10k) but did 6k steps which is more than my recent daily steps so quite pleased with that. Vegetable soup for dinner and more water.
I find drinking a glass of water before a meal does help me eat less. Does anyone else find this helps, or have any other tips?
Also ordered a body brush for cellulite today so will see how effective that is in helping getting my thighs spring/ summer ready
