Anyone keen for a 6 week challenge?

I do well with shorter goals and am hoping to focus on shifting some weight and being more active.

Anyone else care to join and see how much weight we can shift (sensibly!) in the next 6 weeks?

People are welcome to join anytime, I personally will be counting from Monday 7th until March 22nd. I was hit pretty hard by lockdown and am the biggest I’ve ever been... I’ve already managed to shift a little bit of weight, now looking to tackle my long term eating habits and sedentary lifestyle in the coming period.

I’ll be sticking to the following :

  1. No snacking.
  2. 5 fruit/veg per day, protein source at every meal.
  3. Trying to hit 10,000 steps a day.

Other than that, I’m not following any diet in particular, I’m trying to change my habits for the long haul. And of course, being comfortable in summer will be an added bonus!

In these 6 weeks, I’m hoping to shift 8-9 pounds, as well as losing a couple of inches off my belly and bum.

Any takers?

67.5 kg. I’m very pleased Smile . I want to loose another 8.5 kg. I’ve just realised I started at 79kg, I’m more then half-way there!

I managed a half marathon yesterday but can’t walk today 😂

theotherfossilsister · 28/03/2021 12:43

Great to see everyone's progress. I've still not weighed but definitely feeling better for exercise/less sugar/wine etc.

Like @Fembot123 I did a lot of exercise yesterday (not a half marathon though, we just walked to a local beauty spot - about ten miles but knackered today.

Dp tells me that we are doing The Paps of Jura if we get over there at end of May. www.walkhighlands.co.uk/islay-jura/paps-of-jura.shtml

So I definitely need to get weight sorted a bit by then so my knees don't free,e up or something. It's scary but a good goal.

Had frangipane for breakfast this morning but choosing not to feel guilty as I chose to eat it and won't have another for a week (instead of popping to bakery every other day because nits there.)

Had a long chat with dp about weighloss the other day. He's very into calorie counting while I prefer a much gentler approach, and cc seems so joyless when losing weight can be fun/about eating more good things, etc.

End of week 7 and 1.5lbs off. Total of 13lbs and 5% body fat gone!

I’m going to regret the fat loss tomorrow though when I set foot in the lake for a swim...

theotherfossilsister · 29/03/2021 11:03

@LivingMyBestLife2020 do you go wild swimming a lot? Two work colleagues convinced me to come with them on Friday (In Scotland!) and I'm terrified. Hoping that my fat will serve a good purpose that night.

Going for a walk with a friend soon, as far as the local indie bookshop where I'm click and collecting a book, and will try to run tonight while the jacket potatoes are in the oven.

Not sure whether to weigh last day March it first day April. I like the idea of a clean new month though, if that makes sense?

takingmytimeonmyride · 29/03/2021 13:50

I'm glad we're carrying on!

When we started I was 82.2kg, yesterday I was 80kg. So it's a slow loss, but it's going the right way!

I'm really happy doing the 16:8. I do have a day off on Sunday as I'm with my boyfriend, but we usually do a long walk or bike ride so I work off the extra I eat.

Also doing well at 10,000 steps most days.

We can do it!

LivingMyBestLife2020 · 29/03/2021 14:54

@theotherfossilsister yes! I absolutely love it and you will too! The adrenaline and endorphins rush is epic and it’s brilliant fir the metabolism.

Let us know how you get on and make sure you take a Willy hat for when you get out

I want a Willy hat 😂😂 Well done on everyone’s losses. Managed a 5 mile walk yesterday on my stiff post run legs and did an online workout this am. The sun had come out and that makes me more determined to stick to plan but it also makes me want wine

PurpleDaisies · 29/03/2021 16:05

I’m down a kg on last week which I’m pleased about. I’ve been for a walk and it’s Zumba later. Eating has been a bit dodgy. My appetite is up and down after last week’s bug.

Keep at it everyone!

theotherfossilsister · 29/03/2021 17:49

@LivingMyBestLife2020 I'm actually terrified of getting hypothermia or something stupid abd being that idiot on the news who took up an ambulance on good friday.

Had a walk with a friend today and tonight is meant to be a run night (repeating week six as I failed the final run last time.) Feeling really tired though and wondering how much not going will really matter as I walked all round town. Maybe I should just throw on my running clothes and go while the baked potatoes are in the oven, but I could use that time and energy to hoover the flat and sort laundry. I do want to shift the weight though.

LivingMyBestLife2020 · 29/03/2021 20:20

@theotherfossilsister
You will be fine. The rule is one minute in the water for every degree of water temp.
Remember that shivering is normal (and burns loads of calories!) so embrace it 😬

ClaraTheImpossibleGirl · 29/03/2021 22:44

@Fembot123 if I did a half marathon I would want to drop two dress sizes immediately as a reward Grin

I would love to walk the Highlands @theotherfossilsister, what a great thing to aim for! I went on a walking holiday in Skye many years ago with my DP at the time, it was glorious. Current DP is just not into walking though Sad I did look (pre-Covid!) at visiting Shetland/ Orkney/ other islands on holiday, but it was just so expensive that it was quicker/ cheaper to take the DC on holiday to the Canary Islands or similar!

I've never been brave enough for outdoor swimming @LivingMyBestLife2020, it's something to add to my to do list for when the DC are older and I have more time on my hands!

1.5lb off this week which is fine, slow and steady etc... 12lb down, 38lb to go Shock mind you it's AF week and the Easter holidays now, I'm tempted to bury myself in a pile of chocolate and not move for a while...

Well done Clara ☺️ Yea I did kind of expect that and life’s not fair that it didn’t happen 😂

PurpleDaisies · 30/03/2021 10:42

It’s one of my life goals to do a half marathon. So far I’ve managed vouch to 5k but got stuck after that. So impressed with the runners here. Same for outdoor swimming. A recent new scientist podcast was talking about the benefits of outdoor swimming. I’m just not that brave!

Sitting in the sunshine counts as exercise? I’ve walked 1.2miles to get here and will have to cover at least that back to the car so I guess that’s something...

LivingMyBestLife2020 · 30/03/2021 12:16

For all those interested in open water swimming, try it in the summer when the water is warmer. I promise you will be hooked!

RunnyPaint · 30/03/2021 15:56

I've been for an open water paddle today, but I have no intention of going in any deeper until the sea warms up later in the spring. Lots of people round down here swim pretty much every day, but I really feel the cold when I'm in the water.

LivingMyBestLife2020 · 30/03/2021 17:00

My swim was amazing and I feel great now! My poor body will feel it tomorrow though 😬

Fembot123 · 31/03/2021 08:32

I don’t live anywhere near a sea or I’d definitely be up for that! I fell off the wagon with wine last night (calorie wise, I’m not an alcoholic) back to it today 😁

Fembot123 · 31/03/2021 16:23

Having a wobble today as I looked chubbier in a photo than I thought I looked! Thank god I didn’t see any photos before I started losing, it’s feeling frustrating at the moment as it’s very slow loss. I know it’ll be more sustainable this time and this way but I guess I also feel frustrated with myself for merrily putting on the weight without noticing it creep up, why does it go on so easily but not come off easily. Sorry for the whinging

PurpleDaisies · 31/03/2021 20:53

@Fembot123 photos are evil. I always look bad in them. In the mirror it’s definitely better. Try not to let it get you down. Flowers

I’ve had a mega busy day so I’m in my pjs with a glass of wine. I’ve managed five miles of walking and a Hiit class so I think I’ve probably earned it.

Thanks @PurpleDaisies, you definitely have 😅

theotherfossilsister · 01/04/2021 12:19

I agree about cameras being horrible things which make you look bad. They're kind of bullies. So are some mirrors.

I am super dashed today as finally got round putting battery in scales to be 76.4 or 75.2 depending on where on the floor I weighed.

I've done tonnes of walking lately and had no crisps or chocolate, significantly less wine (a few spritzers) and one frangipane. It feels unfair.

My new plan is to run every other day as well as walking places. I get horribly agrophobic sometimes but I have to fight that. Also I will just have soup and fruit for lunch from tomorrow.

Period coming tomorrow I think as spotting today so maybe it's that, or maybe I'm clutching at straws.

How's everyone else doing?

Weighing again on fourteenth April abd if I gain again I will cry.

theotherfossilsister · 01/04/2021 12:20

Still excited for wild swimming tomorrow but scared for friends to see me naked.

Do you have to be naked? 😁
