Anyone keen for a 6 week challenge?

I do well with shorter goals and am hoping to focus on shifting some weight and being more active.

Anyone else care to join and see how much weight we can shift (sensibly!) in the next 6 weeks?

People are welcome to join anytime, I personally will be counting from Monday 7th until March 22nd. I was hit pretty hard by lockdown and am the biggest I’ve ever been... I’ve already managed to shift a little bit of weight, now looking to tackle my long term eating habits and sedentary lifestyle in the coming period.

I’ll be sticking to the following :

  1. No snacking.
  2. 5 fruit/veg per day, protein source at every meal.
  3. Trying to hit 10,000 steps a day.

Other than that, I’m not following any diet in particular, I’m trying to change my habits for the long haul. And of course, being comfortable in summer will be an added bonus!

In these 6 weeks, I’m hoping to shift 8-9 pounds, as well as losing a couple of inches off my belly and bum.

Any takers?

I agree completely with PP, weigh yourselves as often as you're comfortable with. I'm a weekly weigher (probably from many years at diet clubs!) but I know people that weigh daily, monthly, never...

Another one here with creaky knees. In fact I struggle with lunges as my knees ache so much! I do take a cod liver oil tablet but not sure how much good it does. They were bad even when I was very slim, I have no chance now Confused

Fembot123 · 23/03/2021 22:42

I bloody hate lunges

ElvenDreamer · 24/03/2021 06:33

Well over 6 weeks I lost just over half a stone which I am pretty happy with, my relationship with food is still a bit hit and miss, but I have gained some really good new fitness habits that do feel like habits rather than me forcing myself so I'm really pleased with that. This thread has been great, thank you for letting me be a part if it, and everyone has done so well. I'm going to duck out now as I think I need something slightly different focuswise but to those going for another 6 weeks, or starting their 1st, you got this!

Fembot123 · 24/03/2021 09:47

Good luck @ElvenDreamer

ClaraTheImpossibleGirl · 24/03/2021 09:54

I agree with the lunges @Fembot123 Grin

Best of luck @ElvenDreamer, and well done on your progress so far!!

PurpleDaisies · 24/03/2021 10:05

I forgot to weigh this week and I’m 1kg below target which I’m happy about. I’ve been feeling rough and have a covid test booked this morning so I’m really hoping that’s going to be negative.

theotherfossilsister · 24/03/2021 10:46

Thank you @Fembot123 that's exactly it. I don't feel like I've lost any/enough weight and seeing that reflected will just stop any progress or health. @chonkchook thank you too, I hope you're feeling better today.

@PurpleDaisies that's brilliant. Congratulations.

Going for a run today, this is the one where it's two lots of ten minutes, which I hope is doable. Need to charge my phone first though as I stupidly ran it right down reading the hen night thread just now. Will tidy flat, maybe have early lunch too for running energy.

Fembot123 · 24/03/2021 11:23

Fingers crossed @PurpleDaisies

My progress has been good, and I think that I am actually on week 8 of my own challenge, as I started just before this thread got going, and decided to keep going until Easter. I’ve lost about 11lb so far, and have gone from an uncomfortable 12/14 to a snug 10/12 (OK, a 12). I still have a small spare tyre with a gorgeous C-section overhang, but it’s much smaller than it was at the end of January. I very much doubt I would have stuck this out without this thread, so thank you all, and especially to @NoNameNellie!

The biggest changes for me have been the removal of booze and the realisation that “being a bit peckish” and “starving to death” are not actually the same thing. After Easter, I will drink again, but both DH and I will be monitoring our consumption more sensibly in future. I will also allow crisps back into my life, in moderation...

Another lunge-hater here. My knees have been less clicky since I’ve been running regularly over the last few years, and my flexibility is good due to yoga, but the rapid lunge movement in a HIIT session is most unpleasant!

@theotherfossilsister, I hope that you enjoyed your run. That’s the one we’ll be doing as a family on Friday. I did C25k a few years ago, and now DD (and DH, to a lesser extent) are doing it. If you were OK with the 5, 8, 5 min runs last time, two lots of 10 min will be fine!

Hope you are OK, @PurpleDaisies! And hope you are feeling better, @ChonkyChook!

I don't get it! My post had paragraph breaks when I posted using my PC but they just don't show up on my phone app 😔

NoNameNellie · 24/03/2021 18:10

Omg, I can on to belatedly say goodbye and thank you all... but I see we're off for another six weeks!!

Amazing! But now I really have no excuses...

I've fallen well off the band wagon and am now peeling myself off the pavement so that I don't end up in the same position I do every summer - trying to hide myself away whilst lamenting my thigh chafe.

Right, to start with, I'm putting work away for the evening. Going to make a lovely curry and top it off with plenty of fruit and veg. Back to sensible, no more binging!!

Oooh curry sounds delicious, I am trying out bare naked noodles tonight. 26cals for a 125g portion. Will report back as to whether they are actually edible!

I’ve had them, one warning is they come out exactly how they went in 😁
Rozbos · 24/03/2021 19:15

Good (if a little disturbing) to know!

😁😁😁 I made the mistake of letting my toddler try them years ago and it was horrendous
PurpleDaisies · 25/03/2021 21:04

Thanks for all the good wishes-I’m feeling much better today and it’s officially just a bad cold not covid. I’ve skipped all my exercise classes but been out for some fresh air on a long walk which was lovely. Hopefully back on the virtual gym tomorrow.

I’m really intrigued by those naked noodles. Looking forward to a review (without too much information!!!)...

Yay! 😂😂 Are you sure you don’t want more detail! They do naked rice as well and I’ve yet to try that
RunnyPaint · 25/03/2021 21:05

Glad you are feeling better. Personally, I'm not sure I want to know anything more about those noodles, thank you very much!

Fembot123 · 25/03/2021 21:16

😄😄😄😂😂😂

Rozbos · 26/03/2021 06:25

Review of the bare naked noodles.

I had originally ordered the normal one but they were subbed for the protein ones. I hadn't ordered the protein ones because actually they don't really have much more protein in them!

So, I stir fried them with prawns and veggies, home made sauce, I was ravenous so sat down excited to eat my stir fry. I almost did the full packet I was that hungry. Eagerly put them in my mouth......and rather regretted it! They tasted ok but it was like eating rubbery mushroom noodles. Unfortunately for me, I don't like mushrooms or eating rubber!

It was almost like biting into elastic bands and I can easily imagine them coming out as they went in because it wasn't really possible to chew them, I bit them into chunks but they weren't really chewable. In the end I was eating the prawns and veg and actively avoiding the noodles so a definite fail. Fortunately I have a DH who is willing to eat anything so the rest won't go to waste.

Next up, swoodles Grin

PurpleDaisies · 26/03/2021 14:00

Mmmmm, delicious elastic bands! I’m not necessarily going to be rushing out to buy them. Maybe the rice will be better!

I did the hiit class today but had to hide off camera for some extra rests. Better than nothing though. I’ve had my Friday treat Tony’s choc bar and a posh coffee so I’m in a very good mood. The plan is to go for a quick walk and have a bath. It’s also Friday fake away tonight-baked sweet potato chips and veggie burgers (coop ultimate plant based beef burgers which are lush) so I’m very much looking forward to this evening. I also bought some ridiculously hipster hot sauce (fermented sriracha) that I’m expecting to be delicious.

Happy nearly the weekend everyone.

RunnyPaint · 26/03/2021 18:15

Yoga this morning and DD's week 6 run 2 of C25K this afternoon (work in between), so we've earned our real take away fish and chips this evening. Although DD is vegetarian, so halloumi for her. We'll give the coop burgers a try some time, thank you for the recommendation!

Fembot123 · 26/03/2021 18:19

I got up at 5.30 and did a workout, tired now though 😂

Rozbos · 27/03/2021 07:04

Total rest day today which is very unusual for me. I normally do CrossFit every day plus run maybe 3 x a week a then do a yoga class on a Sunday.

Also going to a vaccinator training course where lunch is deliveroo so today I going to be messy. I'm quite looking forward to it Grin

ClaraTheImpossibleGirl · 27/03/2021 21:47

What is CrossFit like @Rozbos? I've seen their website but it seemed to be tailored to taking a course at a gym/ with a personal trainer and then carrying on yourself once you've mastered the basics. Or has it changed since then?

I very rarely have a full rest day as I feel too guilty Blush and keep thinking how much weight I have to lose!!
