Anyone keen for a 6 week challenge?

NoNameNellie · 07/02/2021 18:50

I do well with shorter goals and am hoping to focus on shifting some weight and being more active.

Anyone else care to join and see how much weight we can shift (sensibly!) in the next 6 weeks?

People are welcome to join anytime, I personally will be counting from Monday 7th until March 22nd. I was hit pretty hard by lockdown and am the biggest I’ve ever been... I’ve already managed to shift a little bit of weight, now looking to tackle my long term eating habits and sedentary lifestyle in the coming period.

I’ll be sticking to the following :

  1. No snacking.
  2. 5 fruit/veg per day, protein source at every meal.
  3. Trying to hit 10,000 steps a day.

Other than that, I’m not following any diet in particular, I’m trying to change my habits for the long haul. And of course, being comfortable in summer will be an added bonus!

In these 6 weeks, I’m hoping to shift 8-9 pounds, as well as losing a couple of inches off my belly and bum.

Any takers?

Thanks fembot. I’ve done loads of squats and lunges in my hiit classes and my legs are so tight at the moment. I feel like an old lady when I’m bending over trying to do my trainers up. There are some nice 15 minute stretch routines on Les mills so I’m trying to fit those in when I’d normally just be sitting on the sofa.

ElvenDreamer · 11/03/2021 13:21

Argh, help me guys, I've hit a bit of a self sabotage couple of days. Was super tired and made the mistake of eating lots and not all of it healthy to keep going. I know this never works and yet I still do it, why!!! So basically a pretty rubbish I'd say 3 days. I have managed to keep up my steps though so hoping that counts for something...

PurpleDaisies · 11/03/2021 13:24

Today is a new day elven. It doesn’t matter about your falling off the wagon-it’s done now. New start.

What have you got in for dinner that’s healthy?

ElvenDreamer · 11/03/2021 15:40

Thank you @PurpleDaisies you are right, no need to panic, long game. I have cauliflower 'couscous' with halloumi and vegetables tonight. Time to claw it slowly back.

Fembot123 · 11/03/2021 19:00

Exactly that @ElvenDreamer you’ll be fine just mark it down as being human

RunnyPaint · 13/03/2021 13:22

How is everyone doing this weekend? Hope you are feeling more positive @ElvenDreamer. Was the ‘couscous’ actually granulated cauliflower? How was it?

I hope that the week got better for you @NoNameNellie? @Fembot123 & @BlueSkyBlinking, I also have an 11 yo. I’m self-employed and gave myself some time off last week when she went back to school, so I’ve managed to have uninterrupted (and almost guilt-free) yoga classes during the day. My work doesn’t require any meetings or set timescales during the day (although I do work to tight deadlines), so I can fit in exercise, or work in my dressing gown or exercise gear without anyone knowing!

My diet plan has been to cut out crisps and booze, ensure that portion sizes are sensible and reduce snacking. I’ve had a good week exercise-wise, with yoga and running – both alone and with my DD, who is now on week 4 of C25k. In all, it’s been working as I’ve lost about half a stone since the beginning of February and it feels reasonably sustainable. Once I get to my target (another 6 lb, perhaps) I intend to keep the booze and snacks to a more moderate level than they have been over the last year decade to stop my trousers getting too tight again.

ElvenDreamer · 13/03/2021 16:03

@RunnyPaint yes the 'couscous' was granulated cauliflower, sort of briefly steamed and had some peas and mint mixed into it. Was really tasty and no one else in the family complained so a win all round there!
Feeling a bit more positive this weekend, have had a couple of revelatory moments this weekend due to careful study of my own habits etc. One to do with binge eating disorder which I won't bore you with as I don't want to hijack this thread, the other was realising that a lot of the exercises I've been doing were kind of all wrong as I have a bit of ab separation and there are certain things you really shouldn't do. However, I've chosen not to panic, just changed my routine to focus on ab closing exercises, onwards and upwards! Managing to keep up my steps well still even if eating went a bit hay wire How is everyone else doing?

PurpleDaisies · 13/03/2021 16:54

Dh had something to do in the house so I went out for a walk which ended up lasting two and a half hours. It was super windy and I’m just back with that rosy post walk glow which would make a fab blusher shade! Feeling very virtuous.

I made avocado on toast with veggie pastrami for our Saturday brunch which felt like a (pretty healthy) proper treat. It’s Chinese fakeaway tonight.

I love cauliflower but have never tried it like that elven. You’ve inspired me to test it out. Glad things are more positive for you.

@RunnyPaint do you use an online yoga thing? I’ve enjoyed yoga with Adrienne and body balance on Les mills. Your goals sound really sensible.

Fembot123 · 13/03/2021 17:20

We’re having a real Chinese fat boy takeaway tonight for a birthday but I went for a ten mile run in preparation 😂

PurpleDaisies · 13/03/2021 17:44

I’m envious-enjoy!

NoNameNellie · 13/03/2021 17:47

Sorry for the radio silence everyone!
Welcome to any newbies too!

I fell off the band wagon a little these last few days, but now my shopping is done for the week and I’m going to have a Sensible Week.

All meals are planned out and I’m hoping to get at least 3 workouts in. Nice sweaty ones too. None of this light prancing around. *Glares sternly at self

@clto2021

Another good week - 2.5lbs off 😊

7th Feb - 13st 12lbs
14th Feb - 13st 10.5lbs
21st Feb - 13st 8.5lbs
28th Feb - 13st 6lbs
7th March - 13st 3.5lbs

March 14th - 13st 3.5lbs. Stayed the same this week 🙄 but 8.5lb lost in 6 weeks which isn't too bad. All going in the right direction which is the main thing 😊
Fembot123 · 14/03/2021 17:43

Well done @clto2021

NoNameNellie · 14/03/2021 18:08

@clto2021 Well done you!! That's great progress, you're right to look at the whole picture.

I'm back on track today, managed not to over eat nor drink too much. Am going to try a new recipe: Comté and smoked sausage risotto with a side of broccoli. Looks great in the picture... let's see how it turns out!

Thanks both 😊 well done @NoNameNellie 👍 that dinner sounds delicious!!

ChonkyChook · 15/03/2021 07:49

No gain, no loss. Still 72.9.
Bound to level out eventually.

PurpleDaisies · 15/03/2021 09:09

I’m up a little bit this morning. Not sure why, it’s not been a particularly bad week for eating or exercise. Will try again tomorrow!

takingmytimeonmyride · 15/03/2021 10:41

Gah. Last week - 80.7kg

This week - 81.2kg

I've done my 10,000 steps everyday since the schools are back, but I hadn't stuck to the 16:8 so back on it! I feel so hungry but can't eat for hours! I will do it though.

RunnyPaint · 15/03/2021 11:33

@PurpleDaisies , I really like Adriene’s yoga videos, but I was doing my ‘normal’ classes last week. The instructor that I’ve been with for the last decade has been running classes over Zoom two or three times per week for most of lockdown. There is something very motivating about knowing that other members of the regular group, most of whom live within a mile or so, are doing the same thing at the same time. She also sends us the recordings, so we can catch up on classes we’ve missed if we want to (and all for the same cost as the usual one class per week – absolute bargain).

@Fembot123, well done on another very impressive run!

How did everyone find mother’s day from the weight loss point of view? There were too many treats for me, so I was surprised that I hadn’t tipped back over the 10 st mark this morning. DD makes very good chocolate cookies, and DH did a lovely roast dinner. I also had two glasses of wine, which is not allowed according to my ‘rules’. It was the first booze since the end of January, and I’m not having any more for a while.

Back on it now!

buckeejit · 15/03/2021 12:20

@RunnyPaint you're very good to get back on track! I overindulged a little for Mother's Day but could have been a lot worse!

I've also been eating a Lot of cauliflower, mostly roasted, delicious!

Weigh in day for me & 2.5lb off. I'm delighted. Lots on the to do list but will try to stick to it all this week & hope for another loss next week. 4.5lb to go to get to my first goal which will be thrilling!

I feel the need for some sort of treat or reward for my efforts, so thinking about what that could be in another couple of stones time hopefully!

PurpleDaisies · 15/03/2021 12:28

I bought myself some posh gym leggings when I hit my target. That was a nice treat.

LivingMyBestLife2020 · 15/03/2021 12:37

Afternoon all. So week 5 weigh in and I’ve lost a pound :) that’s 10.5lb in 5 weeks.

Last week and I’m working hard for 1.5lb to take my 6 week challenge to 12lbs

Fembot123 · 15/03/2021 17:34

I didn’t go too crazy on Mother’s Day but made sure I had a good old walk to offset the roast. I also broke my 16/8 to have breakfast in bed but it’d been rude not to.

NoNameNellie · 15/03/2021 19:30

Evening, all.

I've gained a bit of weight this week, back up to 70 kg. Annoying, but not unexpected. I can feel myself slipping back into old habits, especially now that work is so frantic and I have very little time to myself to get organised. I just want to eat all the carbs and snacks...

Managed to avoid the snacks this afternoon, but still had too many little treats for one day...

B: Large cappuccino
L: Carbonara pasta and chocolate cookie
D: Leftover risotto and broccoli, finger of cheese, orange

There'll be absolutely no time for exercise this week, but I absolutely need to stay focused - can't fall off the band wagon after all my hard work!
