No S Diet - Anyone got quite a lot to lose and fancy trying a more longterm approach - no quick fixes!

HenriettaHeffalump · 03/02/2021 08:34

I have just discovered I've gone into the obese category. I am starting today doing something I have tried before and found great. I need something I can stick to longterm and which will improve my eating habits as well, so that when I do hopefully lose the weight, I can keep it off.

It is called the No S Diet.

Rules are:

No sweets
No snacks
No seconds

Except on days beginning with S! Sounds twee and gimmicky, but I swear it works if I stick to it.

Starting weight - 200 lbs
Height - 5'8"
BMI - 30.3 (obese category Blush)

I will also be taking up more exercise. Not going at it hell for leather like I always do, which never works as I can't do that anymore. So, slow and steady with exercise too.

Would love some slow and steady weight loss / healthy living buddies!

Well done! A loss is a loss, and it will all add up.

What a week!

Easter Monday was a bit of a fail, I sat down to read a book and ended up eating a whole Easter egg. I sort of just kept munching all day. Most frustratingly I ended up being sick in the evening.

On Tuesday I then baked with the children so ended up having a slice of Banana bread with a cup of tea, which I really enjoyed.

Wednesday I had to go to Glasgow to sort my elderly uncle’s heating and bought him a greggs as he won’t go out to get one atm, so obviously I had a doughnut as well as my cheese an onion pastie.

Yesterday I had to go back to Glasgow to finish jobs for my uncle (I infact had to go twice - 35 minute drive each way) so bought a KFC for lunch to share with DH and DC. I ate way too much at lunch but the just had goats cheese on brown toast for dinner.

So weighing in

Starting Weight: 71.7kg - goal weight: 65kg
Last weigh in 71.1kg
Current weight 70.2kg

After all that cheating I wasn’t expecting to loose 900g. But I didn’t snack at all in the evenings, I really feel like I have broken that habit, now I just need to work on the other ones.

I am also feeling really motivated to get below the 70kg mark next week.

Next Thursday is DS1’s 10th birthday so will have an S day to enjoy his sushi lunch (We have ordered a couple of platters) and sushi themed cake which I have to bake!

AdventureIsWaiting · 09/04/2021 09:24

Congratulations on your losses @eltsihT that's great! Smile

Had a mixed week, but mostly stuck to it apart from the packet of mini easter eggs. I'm finding I want to snack less now, which is great.

Starting weight: 10st7lb
Current weight: 10st4lb
Goal weight: 9st, Lost so far: 3lb

I've lost the half pound I'd gained, which is fine; I've not done a lot of exercise this week. Need to get back on it next week! Not got much planned for the weekend in terms of sugar / snacks, so I'm hoping that will balance out the misses this week.

Jealous of both your Greggs and KFC eltsihT... DH is very paranoid about COVID, so he's asked me not to go into chain takeaway shops (we've had the odd pizza from a local place he knows well) until we're vaccinated. I've made a long list of foods I want post-vaccine Grin

eltsihT · 09/04/2021 09:57

Well done on your loss too! It was the first KFC since before lockdown, so very much enjoyed. We too have been cautious. I was just heading home from Glasgow at the right time and it seemed like a good idea

I am lucky enough to see my Uncle every 6weeks or so for the wee jobs in his house he can’t do himself and have been getting Greggs for us as a treat. It’s nice to have the occasional takeout as a treat. I like that I order online and it’s ready so not much queueing

My DH has been particularly missing them as they were a regular lunch for him before the pandemic and home working. He has a date for returning to the office so that will be interesting as he started at his job on the 1st of April last year

HenriettaHeffalump · 09/04/2021 12:33

Huge well done on the losses @AdventureIsWaiting and @eltsihT.

I am still not weighing, but am doing alright and am wearing a size down in my jeans today and don't even have a muffin top in them. So I'm calling that a small win Smile.

Hope everyone has a nice weekend planned, maybe even with Shock interaction with other humans!

So DH has decided he wants to apply to be an Astronaut. He meets all the minimum requirements and all but 1 of the desirables.

But he is massively overweight. So he has signed up with a local fitness and nutrition place. They are working with him to help him drop 30kg.

I am going to join him in the food side of the plan as the nutritionalist will be making a meal plan that suits the whole family. Not really sure I am ready for this, she mentioned chickpea brownies, but here goes!

HenriettaHeffalump · 11/04/2021 17:58

Holy shit! That is one of the most surprising updates I've ever heard! But good for him. Hope the plan goes well, despite the chickpea brownies Grin. Keep us posted.

I have made black bean brownies before a good few times and they are actually delicious! I use a Hemsley and Hemsley recipe. If your trainer approves, I would definitely recommend!

Wow! That's awesome - good luck to your DH @eltsihT! I agree black bean brownies (and sweet potato brownies) are great... never tried chickpea brownies.

Congrats on your loss @HenriettaHeffalump! A size down is brilliant news.

Things are looking very sunny here today, figuratively and literally. We managed to get DH's vaccination booked (45-49 group) for this Friday. He's spent the whole pandemic petrified of catching the virus, so this really feels like the beginning of the end. I've also got my first haircut this afternoon. Don't really want to concentrate on work today Grin

Everything I lost last week has gone back on. I have been really good and not snacked. I did have an S day yesterday as it was DS1’s birthday. But I didn’t go overboard.

But my period started today, so hopefully it’s just that and the weight will fall off again.

AdventureIsWaiting · 17/04/2021 12:05

Checking in. Maintained my weight this week.

Very sunny here today. Not got any plans. Hope you all have a lovely weekend Smile

HenriettaHeffalump · 17/04/2021 17:48

Ah sorry it's a gain @eltsihT, but I always think hormones and bloat play a big part!

STS is better than a gain @AdventureIsWaiting!

Lovely day here. We have been for a lovely walk in the woods and been in the garden a lot too today. Feeling very spring like here now Grin. I can't wait for summer. We might even dare to book a holiday and see my dad who we haven't seen for over a year! Fingers crossed.

I have just about entirely cut out snacking now, so going to work on portion size...DH’s trainer has looked at our diet and has said we don’t need to change much, just work on our portion sizes. So that’s fab.

She is going to meet with us later this week to talk about what DH needs to do with regards to portions. I am looking forward to it.

HenriettaHeffalump · 20/04/2021 22:15

That's great @eltsihT. Hope it all goes well for you both.

A 1.3kg drop, so pleased to be back on track after last weeks gain. I managed to avoid the chocolate binge I normally have when on my period, so that helped, DH weighing out his food is definitely helping as it is making me much more conscious of my portion sizes.

I am still sticking to no S’ing but having DH onboard with some form of diet is making things much easier

A wee gain of 100g, but it was my birthday on Tuesdays so lots of cake was eaten! So i am quite happy with it.

Yeah! Weight heading down again!

NefBachMorf · 22/05/2021 12:27

Is anyone still following No S?

I need to lose weight, have been looking at various different diets but am strongly considering No S again.
I followed it for a while about four years ago, gave up on it for a couple of reasons (slow weight loss being the main one). Needless to say I havent actually lost weight since I stopped No S,whereas when I was following it I was losing, albeit slowly!

eltsihT · 22/05/2021 21:47

I still am, I am down to 69.3 today so 200g from when I last posted.

eltsihT · 16/06/2021 18:24

I am still no s’ing, down to 68.1 kg today… according to BMI I am no longer overweight! 3 more kg to go!

eltsihT · 30/06/2021 09:27

Down to 67.8 today, slow progress but getting there slowly
