HenriettaHeffalump · 03/02/2021 08:34

I have just discovered I've gone into the obese category. I am starting today doing something I have tried before and found great. I need something I can stick to longterm and which will improve my eating habits as well, so that when I do hopefully lose the weight, I can keep it off.

It is called the No S Diet.

Rules are:

No sweets
No snacks
No seconds

Except on days beginning with S! Sounds twee and gimmicky, but I swear it works if I stick to it.

Starting weight - 200 lbs
Height - 5'8"
BMI - 30.3 (obese category Blush)

I will also be taking up more exercise. Not going at it hell for leather like I always do, which never works as I can't do that anymore. So, slow and steady with exercise too.

Would love some slow and steady weight loss / healthy living buddies!

Hi,
After a good start to the week I went downhill yesterday evening, buiscits, cake and chocolate since, and not too healthy. on Wednesday after lunch I picked up a buiscit after lunch but in the evening my DH was drinking wine after having a dry stint so I had my vice of biscuits. I have done my excersize app every day. My 2 year old enjoys joining in. On the plus side my trousers feel looser today. I am going to do a weigh and measure on friday try and claw it back and continue as planned. May skip breakfast tomorrow as that worked ok on Monday. I stopped eating at 6:15 today. Full disclosure
We'd breakfast: blt
Lunch: Macdonald's chili chicken wrap meal and I only ate half the fries.
Tea: chicken and rice
Eve: unspecified number of biscuits, humous and crackers.

Thursday breakfast:small bowl of porrige with peanut butter
Lunch:cheese toastie, mini cheaders, an orange
Tea: assorted leftovers
Snacks: workplace carrot cake and chocolate, 3 fruit shortcake buiscits.

HenriettaHeffalump · 04/03/2021 20:22

Ah not to worry bramble! It's a marathon, not a sprint etc. Well done for getting back to it!

Ok day here. Don't think I broke any rules! But didn't feel like a super healthy day as it was lacking in fruit and veg and we had oven chips with dinner, but hey ho. Grocery delivery arrives tonight, so no excuse not to have less beige meals tomorrow!

Weighing in here

Starting Weight: 71.7kg - goal weight: 65kg
Last weigh in 71.1kg
Current weight 71.1kg.

No change here.

AdventureIsWaiting · 05/03/2021 08:48

Weighing in too.

SW: 10st7 - goal weight 9st
LW: 10st7
CW: 10st7

I'm upset, no idea what I'm doing wrong. If I ate less I'd be really hungry (I have ASD so this causes me a particular, distracting sensory issue - I can't just power through it), and I don't think what I've been eating is particularly calorific (although I've had snacks this week it was 2x satsumas one day & a piece of toast the day before). I make everything from scratch so I know what goes in it. DH says it might be the scales, but I don't think so (they're old spring scales). My horrible mother gave me digital scales for my birthday, but when I tried them they said I was over 11st, so I put them straight back in the box Grin In the grand scheme of things I think I need to get a grip, as it's not a problem compared to the things most people are dealing with at the moment, but I just feel a bit despondent.

B - porridge with fruit (pear, blackberries and cardamom)
L - swede gratin (from the freezer) with sweetcorn
D - Homemade naan & matar paneer

HenriettaHeffalump · 05/03/2021 09:04

No, that is really unfair and annoying adventure! Sorry and sorry too elt.

I guess it's better than a gain and maybe there are other benefits going on. But yes, it must be very irritating not to budge at all on the scales after a few weeks of no snacking, no sweet stuff etc.

OP posts:
eltsihT · 05/03/2021 13:40

I am pleased it’s not a gain! I think I enjoyed my S days too much! And I had a total munch on Monday afternoon.

HenriettaHeffalump · 05/03/2021 13:50

It definitely feels better if you are aware of why you haven't lost anything! Otherwise, so frustrating!

OP posts:
LittleDoritt · 05/03/2021 14:00

I'm sorry Adventure. That seems so unfair. I haven't any advice, I'm afraid. The only diet that ever worked for me was Slimming World, but after the first go at it I could never find the discipline again, and all the sweeteners and fake stuff in it puts me off (even though I lost four stone on it the first time around).

STS here too! I had lost 0.6 lbs yesterday but I had a massive carby dinner last night and wiped it out completely Grin I'm not worried though. Next week the children will be at school and I will be perfect Wink

Are you still not weighing Hen?

HenriettaHeffalump · 05/03/2021 14:22

I'm not weighing today, but might do next week, I'm thinking. Don't want to put myself off as it's the only thing I've more or less stuck to!

I have done WW in the past and found it good, but you have to do a lot of weighing out and counting. Even the plans with minimal weighing, if you ask the people on the forum they all say they weigh their carbs. It works though.

Also low carb has worked like a dream for me in the past in terms of speedy weight loss. But I feel properly grim on it. Nauseous and horrible. I think if you plan for do it longterm, it's worth powering through, but if you're only in it for the weight loss and then planning to go back to 'normal', it isn't.

OP posts:
Newstartneeded21 · 05/03/2021 16:27

Haven’t weighed today because I’ve had a bad week. Had my vaccination on Tuesday and been feeling rough and comforted myself with sugar. I’ll weigh next week when hopefully things will be back to normal

LittleDoritt · 06/03/2021 11:08

Poor you Newstart. Sad It's sounds so so common to feel like hell afterwards. I got away really lightly with mine, but I had the Pfizer and apparently that's worse on the second dose. I hope you start to feel normal again soon.

My anxiety is through the roof this weekend, with the school start on Monday. I'll be glad once that first day back is over. Plus my house is covered in piles of uniform, homework, library books etc which isn't helping the overwhelm.

Nothing to eat yet today, and no idea what's in the cupboards. The chaos is everywhere!

Bramblecrumble · 06/03/2021 12:35

I did weigh today, diapite not.sticking to the diet this week I'm 64kg and 86cm waist so some loss.

HenriettaHeffalump · 06/03/2021 12:39

Well done bramble! A loss is a loss!

Solina · 06/03/2021 16:00

Just coming here to say hello. Me and dp started on Monday and so far so good, stuck to the rules all week, helps we have nothing sweet in the house. It was also tricky for me to not have seconds but I managed it.

The plan is to stick to the rules for few weeks in order to get in the habit of new way of eating and once we are used to it will then start changing what we actually cook to be a little more healthier than it currently is and manage our portion sizes. Slowly changing our diet healthier and healthier than it is now.

No weighing going on for now, just lifestyle change to begin with. Eventually however would like to lose quite a lot of weight, in the next 2 years would like to shift about 5st and then the rest in the next few years after that.

Really hoping this slow approach works as the quick ones have always resulted in the weight coming back with extra in the end.

HenriettaHeffalump · 06/03/2021 17:30

Hi @Solina!

I like that plan. I'm not weighing weekly anymore as I also really need to change some bad habits and found the weekly weighing a bit distracting for me, as it felt more short term.

Anyway, hope everyone is having a good S Day!

I didn't eat much this morning or at lunch and therefore was ravenous while making dcs' tea! Had some toast. It's fine, as it's an S Day, but still, will I never learn?!

OP posts:
HenriettaHeffalump · 07/03/2021 18:37

Evening!

Hope everyone has had a lovely weekend. I think I've overdone my Ss (namely the sweet things variety) this weekend. But I'm very ready to get back on it tomorrow. Dcs should both be out at childcare/school, which is going to be really weird! I will miss them, but I'm also really pleased. The older one is so excited to be going back to school.

I will be on it tomorrow, with No S, meal planning, tidying the house and even some studying so I'm not dashing round at the last minute again! Next assignment due next month and then the final one for this academic year, a little after that.

Anyway, hope everyone is looking forward to a (hopefully) No S week Smile

Bramblecrumble · 07/03/2021 20:43

Hi, good weekend thanks. A few sweets enjoyed, ready for a full 5 days of no s, which I'm yet to manage. That does sound like a good plan solina. For myself I think being the only person in my household doing it and having buiscits in has made it easy to cave. Although, work is worse for cake and chocolate.

Solina · 07/03/2021 21:05

Good weekend here too. Had 2 meals each day rather than 3 funnily enough but that was due to having a good sized brunch on Saturday keeping us full until dinner and today I was busy all morning so didn't stop until lunch (which I had to pretty much inhale because as soon as I sat down our shopping arrived). Few sweet things enjoyed but not hugely overboard. I am actually really looking forward to a new week. It does make it easier that we are both doing this although I do all of our food shopping so even if dp didn't want to join I could still not order stuff. But normally he would then suggest we get sweet stuff from the corner shop etc. and I cave in quite easily for that... Blush So glad I don't have to use willpower for that with him sticking to it too!

eltsihT · 08/03/2021 08:00

I stood on the scales this morning to see what damage I had done over the weekend, I have remained static! Which is great.

I sat and read books this weekend, I would normally have snacked on crisps and chocolate while reading but I made myself a big bowl of popcorn (5ml rapeseed oil and salt) and really enjoyed it, also had naice ice cream after the roast on Saturday.

I am heading in to work today to set my classroom up for the return to school next week (Scottish high school) hopefully today we will find out what that will look like but we already know it involves 2m social distancing.

AdventureIsWaiting · 08/03/2021 09:17

That's great eltsih Smile

Popping in to wish everyone a good week - the sun is shining here, which is lovely. I don't work Mondays so I have a million chores to do instead. Today's plan looks something like:

B - porridge & fruit
L - leftover roast veg from yesterday + peas/other veg
D - vegan chilli wraps, or enchiladas (I have half a jar of passata to use up)

Over the weekend I signed up to Les Mills on demand, and this week I'm going to focus on portion sizes. I'm desperate to lose even 1lb! Grin

LittleDoritt · 08/03/2021 14:46

It's chore-central here today too.

B: Alpen
L:Scrambled eggs on toast
D: Chicken and veg stir fry
Need to add some fruit to my breakfast and some veg to my lunch tomorrow.

Welcome Solina!

Well done Elt! Onwards and downwards.

LittleDoritt · 09/03/2021 14:33

Well, I fell at the first hurdle yesterday! The DC came out of their first day back at school and we had doughnuts as a treat. Oops! I only ate one but it was definitely S on a No S day.

Today's looking ok though.

B: Alpen and raspberries
L: Beans on toast, with an egg
D: Chicken and veg curry

How's everyone else getting on? How did all the DC get on with the return to school?

AdventureIsWaiting · 10/03/2021 12:41

Wish I'd thought of your beans on toast dorritt - just the thing on a rainy day like today.

No DC here but we walked past the bus stop yesterday afternoon just after the primary school bus did its drop-off, and it was lovely to see so many happy kids running around.

Today's menu doesn't really reflect the weather so far, hoping dinner will make up for it.

B - porridge with fruit (cranberries, pear and cardamom)
L - smoked trout pate wraps (x2, just the wrap + pate) with veg sticks, banana
D - roast veg (not Sunday's leftovers! - carrots, parsnips, swede & red onion) in olive oil, with paxo + gravy

eltsihT · 10/03/2021 19:10

I have been good all week, but am pretty stressed about going back to work on Monday. The mix of teaching in class and online and trying to get organised is making me feel quite anxious.

Anyway today menu is
L: chips and cheese and a can of coke
D:boiled baby potatoes and home made chicken pie (pie has sweetcorn and broccoli in it)

Currently enjoying a cider and trying to stop thinking about work!

eltsihT · 11/03/2021 11:39

With how anxious I am feeling about the return to school next week, I am not hungry at breakfast, however I am ravenous by 11.

DH is on a teams call so I suspect lunch won’t be till nearer 1.

I have bought some hot cross buns today and am going to have 1 for breakfast tomorrow, maybe at 9.30 after my live lesson. So I don’t have this issue again.
