No S Diet - Anyone got quite a lot to lose and fancy trying a more longterm approach - no quick fixes!

HenriettaHeffalump · 03/02/2021 08:34

I have just discovered I've gone into the obese category. I am starting today doing something I have tried before and found great. I need something I can stick to longterm and which will improve my eating habits as well, so that when I do hopefully lose the weight, I can keep it off.

It is called the No S Diet.

Rules are:

No sweets
No snacks
No seconds

Except on days beginning with S! Sounds twee and gimmicky, but I swear it works if I stick to it.

Starting weight - 200 lbs
Height - 5'8"
BMI - 30.3 (obese category Blush)

I will also be taking up more exercise. Not going at it hell for leather like I always do, which never works as I can't do that anymore. So, slow and steady with exercise too.

Would love some slow and steady weight loss / healthy living buddies!

Woohoo! Well done buzz. I've just woken up! Dcs are still asleep Shock. Off I shuffle to weigh in... obviously not expecting a loss since yesterday!

OP posts:
eltsihT · 26/02/2021 08:06

SW:71.7kg
CW 71.1kg... onwards and downward!

Well done buzz!

HenriettaHeffalump · 26/02/2021 08:08

Slight gain of 0.5 lb, taking me to 197 lbs. But I'm calling that water weight!

OP posts:
Bramblecrumble · 26/02/2021 08:37

65kg again

HenriettaHeffalump · 26/02/2021 09:00

Ah sorry bramble. Are you still at your starting weight?

OP posts:
Whynow2020 · 26/02/2021 09:29

Checking to weigh. Starting weight on 15/2/21 was 15 stone 2lbs. Weight today 26/2/21 14 stone 9lbs! Pretty pleased with half a stone in less than two weeks! Well done everyone else, hope those who are poorly feel better. I had a shocking migraine yesterday and a poorly baby overnight so my challenge today is to stay on plan and not reach for sugar/carbs to get me through

buzzofthebumblebee · 26/02/2021 10:20

I am pleased with loss (total 6lbs since 15/2/21) - but despondent that at 12 st 10 I am still over 80 kg. It is still far too much, whether I see the numbers in stones, lbs or kgs !!! It is going to be a long road. But it is what it is. No point in dwelling on what's done, just focus on how I can reach 1st goal of 11 11. Which is where I was this time last year. and to think I used to be 10.5 stone and think I was overweight then

I fess up in that I am logging food into MFP. At least for the time being until I get a handle of what I can eat, calories and loss. Just to see where my calorie intake is coming from. No weighing or measuring, just general recording. My day without any snacks or sugar, and reduced carbs is about 1400-1500 calories. I try and achieve 10k steps - but averaging about 8k. I eat extra on days I run (1600+ cals) as my body needs it.

So no S's are working, if I keep my diet vaguely as it is. Already planning takeaway Saturday & I won't be holding back, and cake on Sunday.

Sorry for the me me me post .... useful for me to jot down my thoughts. I really hope you all get out to the beautiful sunshine today - so uplifting

LittleDoritt · 26/02/2021 10:44

Why wow, that is fantastic!! You too Buzz!
In the middle of homeschooling so just scanning, but will come back and read everyone's news later on.

I'm down a pound which is a bit underwhelming, but nevermind. Just need to not hit the fuck it button, and keep going.

SW 217.4
CW 216.4
BMI 40.7 (4.5lbs to "obese")

HenriettaHeffalump · 26/02/2021 10:57

Well done LittleD. Sorry it isn't as much as you wanted, but it is early days.

Buzz, yes, even after a loss, there seems to be so much to go! But it is what it is, as you say. Can't say I didn't know I was gaining weight!

OP posts:
Bramblecrumble · 26/02/2021 12:47

Yes, but not gained. Also I am on my period and read on this thread then can mean I. Am heavier. Also, not precise scales so only a large drop would be recorded. I'm going to start exercising more and be more mindful of what I eat at the weekends maybe just a pudding one day or something. On the plus side, negative PCR so a free day off work and no longer isolating.

HenriettaHeffalump · 26/02/2021 12:57

Yes, I think if you're measuring in kilos, it takes time to see a drop!

Food planned today:

B: just 2 x Brew today
L: peanut butter sandwich, crisps, orange and yoghurt
D: salmon, chips and veg

I'm doing a bit of experimenting with having an eating window between 12 and 8 today. Will see how that goes!

OP posts:
AdventureIsWaiting · 26/02/2021 14:57

SW: 10st7lb
CW: 10st7lb (two weeks in)
Target weight: 9st

Just off out for a walk, really hoping to see even a small move next week.

B - 40g porridge, milk, 2x portions of fruit (apple & blackberries)
L - quiche, sweetcorn, red pepper sticks
D - breaded chicken burger, salad

I was so annoyed and hungry last night I ate some of DH's chocolate cornflake cakes. I'm encouraged though with how many of you have lost weight (not just this week, but since starting) - congrats! And thanks for giving me a bit of hope that this will work Smile

buzzofthebumblebee · 26/02/2021 19:30

Be strong this evening everyone, me included. It's not the weekend yet Wink

HenriettaHeffalump · 26/02/2021 19:47

Thanks buzz! Still haven't had dinner yet here! Looking forward to that and then an(other) earlyish night. Might have a treat drink (elderflower and tonic or maybe a hot ginger cordial). Bit of silly tv with DH and then bed.

OP posts:
HenriettaHeffalump · 26/02/2021 20:00

Oh balls, forgot about my eating window! Damn it! Messed that up then, as dinner isn't ready yet. Oh well.

Newstartneeded21 · 26/02/2021 20:42

1lb down for me this week but very tempted to snack tonight. Got a peppermint tea so hoping that goes the trick. Well done to everyone who is keeping to it whether or you saw a loss today.

eltsihT · 27/02/2021 08:03

Yesterday wasn’t great food wise, but I didn’t snack!
B: brown toast and butter
L: 2slices of pizza and oven chips
D: takeaway(noodles with spicy shredded chilli beef)

DH nearly killed me though. He had a work call as lunch was ready so we not hot lunch, and he was an hour and a half late for dinner, so the kids ate first, but I didn’t steal any of theirs!

LittleDoritt · 27/02/2021 09:31

I fell off the wagon and it ran me over yesterday. It was vaccination day and my anxiety was through the roof, and then I got a stonking headache afterwards so I'm counting it as a Sick day which is an acceptable S according to the website. Going to have a non S Saturday to claw it back a bit though.

HenriettaHeffalump · 27/02/2021 09:36

Oh no LittleD! Yes, I've heard some people seem to feel a bit rough after the vaccination. I think counting it as a sick day makes sense tbf.

Hope everyone can enjoy the weekend (but no bingeing)! Amd come back ready for No S week next week. I nearly had a whole week of No S this week! Just that one misdemeanor...I think.

OP posts:
Newstartneeded21 · 27/02/2021 10:32

Poor you @LittleDoritt was it the AZ one? My sister had exactly the same. I’ve got mine this week so hoping for the best. Definitely take it as a sick day and hope you feel better today

buzzofthebumblebee · 27/02/2021 15:00

well done on loss new. And hope you are feeling better today littleD.
I've come on here to not hit food, right now. Grrrr. DC16 & his anger at me is a huge binge trigger. I'll take out my frustration / upset on the pile of ironing ...

eltsihT · 27/02/2021 15:05

Ironing sound like a plan, Stay focused and get your brain focused on something else.

LittleDoritt · 27/02/2021 21:26

Thanks ladies. I feel right as rain today luckily, so no excuse not to have a fab No S day even though it's a Saturday.

B: Cereal
L: Scrambled eggs on toast
D: Beef casserole

I could easily have slid into self-loathing and my old eating habits so I'm really pleased with how today went. I really like this WOE. It's really forgiving compared to other diets I have been on. Now just need to actually lose some weight!

I hope your afternoon was alright Buzz. I don't have teenage boys, but tween girls, and they can definitely drive me to binging with their incessant squabbling and moaning.

HenriettaHeffalump · 28/02/2021 10:23

buzz, I also am not at the teenager stage yet with mine. I'm not really lookout forward to it! Hope you're having a better day today.

LittleD, that's great! So glad you feel ok. Yes, I think having a forgiving WOE is key! Otherwise, the famous fuck it button is all too tempting. I think for people for whom diet is as much to do with psychology and emotions as physical hunger etc, (so everyone basically), a gentler approach is much more long lasting and god knows I need long lasting as I have a good amount to lose.

bramble, hope you're ok too after positive test?

buzzofthebumblebee · 28/02/2021 12:55

Thank you Hen & Little. Basket ironing + classic disco tunes played too loud helped. Thai takeaway was delicious. Cake is on today's S-menu. Then back to it tomorrow. Hope everyone having a nice day.
