HenriettaHeffalump · 03/02/2021 08:34

I have just discovered I've gone into the obese category. I am starting today doing something I have tried before and found great. I need something I can stick to longterm and which will improve my eating habits as well, so that when I do hopefully lose the weight, I can keep it off.

It is called the No S Diet.

Rules are:

No sweets
No snacks
No seconds

Except on days beginning with S! Sounds twee and gimmicky, but I swear it works if I stick to it.

Starting weight - 200 lbs
Height - 5'8"
BMI - 30.3 (obese category Blush)

I will also be taking up more exercise. Not going at it hell for leather like I always do, which never works as I can't do that anymore. So, slow and steady with exercise too.

Would love some slow and steady weight loss / healthy living buddies!

DH made a really nice and calorific breakfast and I didn't feel hungry at lunch so had a spoonful of homemade humous and veg sticks....as I've been bad recently (far more than the 4 buiscits earlier in the week on Thursday and Friday) I'm not counting today as an s day.... just hope I don't regret my lunch choice later.

Bramblecrumble · 28/02/2021 13:46

Henrietta, just read your post asking how I was. PCR test was negative so that with no symptoms means I'm back to work tomorrow. When occ health called about my results I asked if I should stop lateral flow as the information leaflet with it says after a positive test, don't test for 90 days. They said continue as it was a faulty result, PCR is gold standard. Just hoping my lateral flow test is negative tonight, otherwise annoying. I have felt a bit snotty and coughed once on waking but think it must be mild haufever with this glorious weather.

Bramblecrumble · 28/02/2021 13:46

Also, interested in the fasting you've been doing.

HenriettaHeffalump · 28/02/2021 21:24

Ah that's good Bramble! Glad you don't have it.

I found today, that I didn't really snack, without thinking much about it. My meals were pretty substantial though... I wouldn't say it was a super virtuous day, but I really don't remember snacking on anything or having any sweets.

Anyway, back on it tomorrow. Planning some nice, healthy meals to see us through the week and I need to shop for them too, which I might try and get donw first thing tomorrow, while dc1 is in online classes. I really need to get back to some proper exercise too, but I also have an assignment due on Tuesday, (studying online at the moment), so it may have to wait! I'll walk to the shops though tomorrow, with my backpack for groceries.

I might try the eating window again tomorrow. My problem doing that seems to be that I eat so late in the evenings, which probably isn't the best habit anyway. I want to do 12 - 8PM eating window, but end up eating dinner at about 9 these days! Will see how it goes tomorrow.

Hope everyone has had a nice weekend and is looking forward to No S again tomorrow!

OP posts:
Bramblecrumble · 28/02/2021 22:27

I'll go for a 12-8 eating window too tomorrow see how it goes. What are the supposed benefits? How many days a week/ for how many weeks is it useful for?

AdventureIsWaiting · 01/03/2021 08:27

Hope everyone has had a good weekend? Tried to start the week with a walk before breakfast. Managed 10 minutes round the block before hunger drove me home, but it's a start Grin

Today's meals look something like:
B - porridge with apple & sultana stew (cinnamon, no sugar)
L - quiche & veg sticks, banana
D - anchovy & tomato pasta, maybe some full fat Greek yoghurt (not made the pasta before, not sure how filling it will be)

Hope everyone has a good week Smile

HenriettaHeffalump · 01/03/2021 08:38

Morning all!

Yes, good weekend, thanks Adventure. It just went a bit too quickly!

Last week of homeschool though, all being well 🤞. I think the teacher has had enough too.

Starting the day with a Brew.

bramble, there are meant to be loads of benefits to intermittent fasting, but, if I'm honest, I just find it easier if my meals are a bit closer together and then I know I'm done for the day. I also want to eat earlier in the evenings, so I get to bed earlier too!

Good luck today everyone! May the No S odds be always in your favour Grin...ahem...sorry 🤓

OP posts:
HenriettaHeffalump · 01/03/2021 12:37

I've had my first meal of the day. Are we calling it breakfast 🤔? Maybe not!

Meal 1: leftover mixed mushroom and pea risotto
Meal 2: planning a smoothie to get in some more fruit and veg!
Meal 3: planning veggie hotdogs and lots of salad

buzzofthebumblebee · 01/03/2021 17:37

I went off-piste yesterday (it was a special S day but not a big one, but it did involve lots of the C's that I try and avoid - namely cake, crisps, chocolate, more cake & copious alcohol). Feeling sluggish and bloated but neither surprised nor guilty as those S days only happen once a year. Back on it today.

buzzofthebumblebee · 01/03/2021 17:41

Your food looks great today Hen. Yours too Adventure (except the anchovies). In fact anyone elses food would be wonderful. Sick of planning, shopping, prepping & cooking full stop Wink

eltsihT · 01/03/2021 18:12

I have 2 nice S’ days, but ate way too many crisps. And too much banana bread. Probably as I am feeling lonely as DH is away.

Had a good day so far today food wise and planning a bath tonight to avoid a snaccident as I am feeling like I am on the edge of tears and don’t want to emotionally eat
B: brown toast butter and marmite
L: tuna and sweetcorn sandwich with a packet of crisps
D: mash potatoes, sausages, peas and onion gravy.

HenriettaHeffalump · 01/03/2021 18:19

Ah happy S Day to you then buzz Smile! Hope it was fun.

All fine here so far and found I didn't need the smoothie. Have had my head stuck in books all afternoon! My own fault, as I have fallen behind a bit. I'm more or less finished now.

I walked to the shops today to get some groceries, so we have some meals planned for the next few days. Or till Wednesday! Doesn't seem to go far these days.

Well done elt!

I read an article on intermittent fasting yesterday: www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/322293#tips-for-maintaining-intermittent-fasting
So the 8 hour eating window is one of many. I did that successfully today. However, although not feeling massively hungry, I got a headache midmorning, which is what happened in January between meals when I first attempted no s diet after constant Christmas grazing. So as I finished eating by 6 today I may do the 12 hour gap aka, will have breakfast as normal. Moàstly though I could read and overplan but not follow.....so I'll not put pressure to do too much, just stick to no's. Meals today:
Breakfast: coffee
Lunch: avacado with BBQ sauce. Homemade homous (about a tablespoon, and I really wanted more) with celery and carrots. A cheese and onion roll (like sausage roll) A coffee.
Tea: leftover bbq meat, hallomi, potato salad and coleslaw. A petite filous (techoncly a sweet and second as it wasn't on my plate). Cup of tea.

HenriettaHeffalump · 01/03/2021 21:52

My evening didn't go that well :-/

I made dinner, but again, didn't put enough on my plate I don't think and ended up nibbling a bit as I finished my work (which also, hasn't gone well 😩). I'm handing it in tomorrow and hoping for the best tbh! Awful as that sounds.

Anyway, I might go back to three meals tomorrow, to prevent the nibbling.

Assignment handed in! It's in the hands of the Gods now Wink. Or, more accurately, my tutor!

Reverting to plain old No S! The losses might be modest, but at least I'm not gaining!

B: weetabix
L: quiche and salad
D: taco tuesday! So we're having some sort of tortilla based dinner

One other thing. I've been doing booze free lent this year. I have to say, I've barely noticed, as I've been so focused on meals and not snacking! Unexpected bonus to No S!

Hope everyone else is doing ok.

OP posts:
HenriettaHeffalump · 02/03/2021 11:19

Me again!

Just had a thought about my weigh ins and have decided to switch to monthly weigh in! I think, seeing as losses seem to be quite small for me week to week, it's just going to make me despondent. Obviously, everyone else do what suits them best though and continue with the weekly weigh ins if that's what suits you. I know some people have lost loads every week! So it probably has the opposite affect and is a good motivator.

Right, I'll stop going on on here! Think it's the end of assignment high! Making me chatty.

OP posts:
AdventureIsWaiting · 02/03/2021 16:23

Hi Hen, congrats on submitting your assignment! I don't miss studying at all - I think submission days are worse than the most stressful bits of work, including getting shouted at by people Grin Are you having a treat on Saturday to celebrate?

Don't worry about yesterday; today's a new day Smile I had to have a slice of toast at 10pm last night because I was too hungry to sleep.

Today my meals are exactly the same as yesterday (anchovy pasta was surprisingly tasty), plus some fruit I've just stress-eaten trying desperately not to eat chocolate; having finished a hearing (I work in a legal-related field), then spent an hour trying to secure a holiday booking in September for a group of us (lots of faff), I opened the bin to find about sixty ants inside it... there appears to be a huge infestation somewhere in the kitchen. I've wiped everything with vinegar, emptied cupboards, been round the outside of the house with ant powder. Can't find where they're coming in at all. Think I'll delegate it to DH when he gets home Grin

I think I'll stick with weekly weigh-ins. I admire your willpower to go to monthly!

eltsihT · 02/03/2021 16:27

Well done on getting your assignment in, it’s such a good feeling. I have just finished writing the lessons for one of my classes next week.

DH got home last night and I am already feeling much less stressed.

B: Toast and Marmite
L: homemade scotch broth and a slice of bread
D: spaghetti Bolognese.

However I got home from picking my youngest up from school and was starving so I have 2 Wafery chocolate biscuits and a mar bar with my cup of coffee. I blame it on the face I didn’t eat enough at Lunch ( I lifted the soup out the freezer and there really wasn’t enough for me and DH)

Going to try not to say f**k it and be good for the rest of the day.

HenriettaHeffalump · 02/03/2021 16:30

Omg Adventure! Well done for only stress eating fruit and not chocolate with all that going on!

We live in an area with lots of ants too 🤢. I don't like them at all. I remember when my youngest was a baby coming downstairs and there was a huge army of them parading through my house! They weren't stopping, just seemed to be using my house as a thoroughfare! Yuk though. Not my favourite creatures and we coming into creature season again now. Only downside to warmer weather. Bugs and pollen!

Going ok today, but I did eat half a sandwich off ds's plate, stupidly, without really thinking! This is what I need to NOT do!

OP posts:
Bramblecrumble · 02/03/2021 20:00

Meals today
Breakfast a slice of toast with one scrambled egg and avacado. Cup of coffee.
Lunch:wrap with homemade humous, one BBQ burger and celery, a packet of mini cheaders, an apple, a pear and half an avacado.
Dinner: roast chicken dinner. Cup of tea.

@HenriettaHeffalump it's so easy to eat food off kids plates. It was a work day today and on my feet busy but in a good way. Apart from that my feet sore. I'm glad I had breakfast though. I stuck by no s diapite there being hot cross buns and chocolate at work. I also did a 7min workout app this morning. But since dinner the biscuit tin has been talking to me. 😄 Tomorrow is an off work day so I may go for a later breakfast or skip it depending how I feel.

buzzofthebumblebee · 03/03/2021 08:36

Hello all. I have fallen off due to whole host of excuses factors. But back on it today. Partly because all my birthday cake & treats are now eaten gone, but also now I'm back home after caring for my DF for a few days. Very stressful, emotional, frustrating, and sad all at once - lost my DM at Xmas, and DF needed an op. So all in all, as far as excuses go, I think mine are pretty valid. I know the excuses are only for me. But rather than write-off the whole week and start again Monday, I will press the refresh button for today, and dig deep to try and get back in control. Thank you for letting me moan Wink

HenriettaHeffalump · 03/03/2021 08:46

buzz, so sorry to hear about your mum and dad. Yeah, those work as excuses Flowers

I'm also having a not so good week; just in terms of diet. Nothing like what you're going through or even adventure with the ant infestation! I'm also back on it. Think I just reached a point where I was sick of thinking about it and did bend rules Monday and yesterday! Oh dear. But yes, back to it today.

OP posts:
LittleDoritt · 03/03/2021 21:17

Crazy week here, and not such a great time diet wise either, but will try my best tomorrow, and weigh in on Friday regardless.

That sounds so hard Buzz. I hope you are ok tonight.

LittleDoritt · 04/03/2021 11:38

Morning all! is everyone just hanging on in there until schools go back on Monday?
I had a cheeky weigh in this morning and have lost another 0.6 of a pound. Scraping the barrel there! Maybe if I eat really well today it will bump up to a whole pound by tomorrow's weigh in Grin
DH is feeling poorly today, so I may not bother cooking proper meals, and just forage some leftover bits and pieces.
I need to start properly meal planning again once the children are back to school. Everything in the house seems to be in chaos, including the shopping lists!

HenriettaHeffalump · 04/03/2021 11:50

Hey LittleD! Sorry you're having a crazy week!

Well done on that loss! A loss is a loss and anything is better than a gain Smile.

I felt rough yesterday and ended up staying in the house all day, which makes me feel gross.

Just had toast and fruit this morning. Not sure what to have for lunch, but something or other.

I feel as if next week will be a bit of a fresh start here, as dc1 is due to go back to school, so will try to be more organised with meals, so I'm not wandering round the kitchen deciding what to make at 5.30! Also want to get back into exercise.
