HenriettaHeffalump · 03/02/2021 08:34

I have just discovered I've gone into the obese category. I am starting today doing something I have tried before and found great. I need something I can stick to longterm and which will improve my eating habits as well, so that when I do hopefully lose the weight, I can keep it off.

It is called the No S Diet.

Rules are:

No sweets
No snacks
No seconds

Except on days beginning with S! Sounds twee and gimmicky, but I swear it works if I stick to it.

Starting weight - 200 lbs
Height - 5'8"
BMI - 30.3 (obese category Blush)

I will also be taking up more exercise. Not going at it hell for leather like I always do, which never works as I can't do that anymore. So, slow and steady with exercise too.

Would love some slow and steady weight loss / healthy living buddies!

Hi all!

Sorry I haven't been on here as much this week. Strangely busy, although I have one less child at home! Think the school run comes round quicker than you'd think and I'm off again before I know what's going on.

Anyway, all ok here. Sticking mainly to my meals with no major slip ups. I've been for two runs this week. A slow 4 km just now, with just a minute or two walking. So that's good.

Today is:

B: 3 x weetabix, semi skimmed milk and a tsp sugar
L: god knows! I'm about to make it. Quite hungry after my run / plod
D: salmon fillet, peppercorn sauce and homemade wedges

Had a stressful week so had the odd lapse but fallen off the wagon completely which is progress of sirts

AdventureIsWaiting · 12/03/2021 07:39

elt nothing worse than feeling hungry close to lunch. I've started eating lunch without DH at about 1130 - is that an option for you?

Henrietta congrats on going for two runs! Despite signing up for Les Mills I've done 1x video this week Blush I need to do one tomorrow so it's not a complete waste of money like every other time I've paid for exercise.

Got to go into the office today for the first time in months so it will be a test of the new diet - I usually graze constantly between tasks. However I've weighed myself this morning and I've lost 2lbs! I'm thrilled but need to run because typing this has made me late for work!

eltsihT · 12/03/2021 10:57

DH sulks if he eats alone and I quite like the chat, I just need to eat breakfast!

Starting Weight: 71.7kg - goal weight: 65kg
Last weigh in 71.1kg
Current weight 71.0kg

So I lost 100g! Which is still a loss if only a small one.

Back to school on Monday so a whole new routine, hopefully it will make not snacking easier, till that killer time between school and dinner!

LittleDoritt · 12/03/2021 20:50

That's brilliant Adventure - you were well overdue a good loss for all the work you have put in!

Well done Elt!

Half a pound lost here Grin Oh well, I signed up for slow, steady progress and you can't get much slower than that!

HenriettaHeffalump · 12/03/2021 21:04

That's great @AdventureIsWaiting! Well done you.

Yes, I know exactly what you mean; every time I pay for exercise it's like a curse and I stop doing it
Last time I joined the gym and was using it, bloody covid happened and it closed.

@LittleDoritt, you lost some last week too, so it will all add up over time! Slow and steady is the way to go imo.

I had a lovely Mother’s Day, I enjoyed a home made cream tea, DC helped me make Scones, strawberry meringues, lemon tarts, and chocolate brownies on Saturday, which they served up with the help of DH today.

Back to school and a new routine. Normally on a Monday I would teach 110 pupils but if they all show up I will see 7 tomorrow. Going to make sure I have breakfast before I leave the house and going to take a sandwich for lunch and a wee orange. If I am starving at break I am going to eat my orange. Otherwise I will have it for lunch.

The council have removed all the kettles as there were a few outbreaks they traced back to kettles before Christmas. So I am going to take a flask of coffee with me.

Bramblecrumble · 15/03/2021 15:10

Hi, I haven't been on here much, haven't given much thought to meals but weighed myself yesterday and down to 63 kg, that's about 2kg. Not sure of the accuracy of my scales as my waist is still the same. Note to self must excersize.

AdventureIsWaiting · 18/03/2021 19:17

How has everyone been getting on? I've not had a great week for either exercise or diet - made DH some chocolate brownies on Monday and so far I've eaten at least one six on Monday on Monday, Tuesday and today Hmm On the plus side they're nearly finished so they won't be a temptation any more Grin

Today's meals were:
B - porridge & fruit
L - toast, cheese, veg sticks
Snack - chocolate brownie
D - fish pie, broccoli & sweetcorn

Back in the office again tomorrow. Hope everyone's weeks have gone well.

HenriettaHeffalump · 18/03/2021 19:55

Hey @AdventureIsWaiting!

Oh homemade brownies though...resisting those would be just wrong!

I'm doing fine. A few slip ups here and there with food, but I'm really making an effort with exercise and also haven't had a drop of alcohol since the 14th (I think) Feb! So, pluses and minuses really. I certainly feel good, even if the scales may say otherwise 😬.

eltsihT · 19/03/2021 06:28

Weighing in here. I have been pretty good this week. I have had a few mint imperials I found in my drawer at work, but haven’t snacked otherwise.

Starting Weight: 71.7kg - goal weight: 65kg
Last weigh in 71.1kg
Current weight 70.8kg

300g down...

LittleDoritt · 19/03/2021 14:15

Horrendous week here, food wise, but I weighed this morning and STS so it could be worse.

HenriettaHeffalump · 19/03/2021 19:50

Well done on the loss and STS! I am still not weighing. I'm busy meal planning for next week, so that I'll be less inclined to eat junk, (how many times have I said this Grin)?!

I'm just back from a very short run. Felt a bit weird running in the dark, even though it's a safe area, high viz vest etc and lots of other walkers and runners about. So just did 20 mins. Have a yoga class tomorrow morning too, so at least the exercise is going well. Coming up to 5 weeks no booze, (but who's counting? Ahem).

OP posts:
Bramblecrumble · 19/03/2021 21:20

Back up to 65kg, from 63 stressful week

HenriettaHeffalump · 19/03/2021 21:27

Ah sorry @Bramblecrumble. Here's to a stress free weekend Wine, (alcohol free G&T for me)!

OP posts:
AdventureIsWaiting · 20/03/2021 09:48

Morning everyone Smile Hope your weekends are off to a good start?

Weighed myself yesterday morning before I had to go to work. Lost another lb. I need to have a think about office days as they're a lot longer, so I have to have a snack before getting the 2 hour train home (or I can't concentrate to work on the train), and dinner is a lot later than we normally have it.

Starting weight: 10st7lb
Current weight: 10st4lb
Goal weight: 9st, Lost so far: 3lb

Congrats on your run @HenriettaHeffalump! And the booze free milestone! I managed to stop for a few weeks before Christmas, but I'm having the odd glass of wine at the moment.

Sorry you've both had bad weeks @LittleDoritt and @Bramblecrumble. Hope you both have relaxing weekends to make up for it.

Well done on your loss @eltsihT that's great Smile

I managed to do a body balance class this morning (virtually). It's much more difficult to do it without a real instructor to help with posture etc., but hopefully it'll have some benefit. I read someone on the Les Mills thread saying she'd done a class every morning through lockdown and for the first time in her life she had nice arms... so there's hope! I think a class every morning would kill me Grin

HenriettaHeffalump · 20/03/2021 12:08

Thanks @AdventureIsWaiting! I think I was finding I was never having an 'odd glass'. I wasn't drinking every day, but when I did it was almost always two, maybe three, glasses of wine. So I definitely needed to nip that in the bud! I feel a lot better for it and I think my skin has really improved. Weight hasn't changed much that I can tell, but I'm avoiding the scales tbh, for my own sanity. So maybe. I've been more inclined to exercise too, as I have the energy. I might not go back to drinking, even after Easter, but will take it as it comes.

Nice enough weekend here. We have heard DH will indeed be wanted back in the office in a few months, but not necessarily 5 days a week. We were discussing moving somewhere quite far away if they had said he was going to be WFH full time, but that hasn't happened. We still want to move, but somewhere easy for him to commute from.

OP posts:
AdventureIsWaiting · 20/03/2021 12:41

I know what you mean about not being able to stop at the 'odd glass'. I realised in October that I was drinking every evening (DH is teetotal, so once I open a bottle I'm committed to it). I managed to stop completely for three months (Christmas fizz) and I'm back now to the 'odd glass' without feeling the need for more. YY to feeling much better for it.

The next 6-12 months are going to be interesting; I know a few people who have made drastic relocations already because they will 'definitely' be 100% WFH, but as time goes on the more some kind of hybrid feels like the more common outcome.

eltsihT · 23/03/2021 19:17

I am struggling a bit this week, it’s that time of the month, and I am just feeling SO hungry. I just had a small bar of chocolate. Thought I would post rather than eat more! It seems to be helping.

HenriettaHeffalump · 23/03/2021 19:28

Hey @eltsihT! Well done for posting, instead of opting for The Fuck It Button!

You are not alone; I did my usual trick today of super healthy smoothie for breakfast, super healthy soup for lunch...making dinner and scoffed about 10 Ritz crackers Blush. I had a very small dinner and just did a decent workout on my spin bike. Great run yesterday and a yoga class too, so hoping the exercise is making up for the food mishaps!

I'm getting an early night, maybe an episode of silly comedy with DH and a fake G&T, then book and bed. No crisps, repeat NO crisps are to be scoffed Henri!

Starting Weight: 71.7kg - goal weight: 65kg

Current weight 71.2kg

Gah! Up 200g. Tbh I had deadlines at work and have snacked as good was all I could think about. Going to behave next week, as I am sure the Easter hols will be tricky.

Bramblecrumble · 26/03/2021 08:01

Well, I've not been sticking to the diet but definitely having less sugar than before I started. For me I messed up my meals yesterday by having a Normal breakfast, huge late lunch and a flapjack and cheese and about 6pm. I then woke at 430am really hungry so had an early breakfast. I weighed myself before breakfast and weighed about 63.5, so I'm happy with that.

AdventureIsWaiting · 02/04/2021 08:44

How is everyone getting on? Not had a good fortnight tbh - I wasn't very well last weekend (fine now, not covid) and I've not had the best fortnight diet-wise either, due to being strung out and tired.

Net result is that I've gained 0.5lb, but I'm not too unhappy as it could have been worse!

Starting weight: 10st7lb
Current weight: 10st4.5lb
Goal weight: 9st, Lost so far: 2.5lb

HenriettaHeffalump · 02/04/2021 09:08

Morning @AdventureIsWaiting!

Sorry about the bad fortnight.

I also have not been at my best this week. I can't even claim to have done huge amounts of exercise either! But I will do something today.

Tbh, I've spent most of the week decluttering my house and putting things in the loft....which I'll probably take out again soon and get rid of! They get a trial period in my loft before I take them away for good, in case I get Kondo regret Grin.

OP posts:
eltsihT · 03/04/2021 08:04

Well done with the deculttering.

I am finding Fridays hard to weigh in, with having to get up and walk the dog at 6, so am going to do first thing Saturday morning

Starting Weight: 71.7kg - goal weight: 65kg
Last weigh in 71.2kg
Current weight 71.1kg

Just a small loss again this week, but at least it’s a loss unlike last week.

Off work again for the Easter holidays, so hopefully will manage not to snack too much!
