HenriettaHeffalump · 03/02/2021 08:34

I have just discovered I've gone into the obese category. I am starting today doing something I have tried before and found great. I need something I can stick to longterm and which will improve my eating habits as well, so that when I do hopefully lose the weight, I can keep it off.

It is called the No S Diet.

Rules are:

No sweets
No snacks
No seconds

Except on days beginning with S! Sounds twee and gimmicky, but I swear it works if I stick to it.

Starting weight - 200 lbs
Height - 5'8"
BMI - 30.3 (obese category Blush)

I will also be taking up more exercise. Not going at it hell for leather like I always do, which never works as I can't do that anymore. So, slow and steady with exercise too.

Would love some slow and steady weight loss / healthy living buddies!

Everyone having a tough day today by the sounds of things. Hope the odd sweetened tea / coffee has prevented total nose-dive into a binge.

buzzofthebumblebee · 24/02/2021 18:53

my food for the day:
B - 2 spoons museli, natural yoghurt & blueberries
L - salmon & grain salad + melon medley (service station M&S thankfully)
S - 2 mini babybel cheese & apple - v tired on drive so had to stop for snack
D - spagetti & home-made tomato, basil, red pepper & chorizo sauce.
I'm still thinking of food ALL THE TIME. But think I'm feeling a shift to no-sugar or snacks. I'm certainly craving far less.

buzzofthebumblebee · 24/02/2021 19:03

BTW - so sorry I haven't tagged anyone but I'd get the wrong person Blush - I have read all your posts, and really sympathise with overwhelming work, nightmare kids, sore tongues, shock of deer impact, and anxiety over future beach memorials. Honestly, can't believe what a motley crew we are, and that's all one one day.

HenriettaHeffalump · 24/02/2021 19:58

Thanks buzz!

I've had my dinner, such as it was! Peanut butter sandwich, a bag of crisps, a yoghurt and an orange. Looked more like my 6yo's packed lunch Grin. Except peanuts are banned...as are crisps...I think. Anyway, it was fine. Did the job. Dcs wouldn't eat the same thing as each other this evening and DH wouldn't eat pescetarian this evening either 😂🙈😒. So peanut butter sandwich it was! Not the best day in terms of food, but I stuck loosely to the rules.

My youngest is at childcare tomorrow, so hopefully I'll have a bit more time to plan meals and even maybe shop for them! DH is off on Friday (weigh in day for me). So feel as if I'm on the home stretch now to weekend. Wonder if I'll have lost anything this week 🤔. Time will tell. I'm not getting on the scales till Friday as don't want to put myself off until weekend!

LittleDoritt · 24/02/2021 20:28

Welcome Inthetropics! Our weigh in day is Friday.

What a day we've all had! And none of us have caved and hit the biscuit tin. Go us!

Not long now until the weekend.

LittleDoritt · 24/02/2021 22:37

Bedtime for me, and haven't really felt the urge to snack today, which is fab.

Didn't manage breakfast
L: Cheesy beans on toast
D: Fish pie with veggies and a little bit of french stick

I know my food isn't completely brilliant but I must have avoided so many calories this week in all the mindless snacks and puddings that I would usually have eaten. Surely I have to lose some weight on Friday!! (I know, I know, weight doesn't matter Grin )

Bramblecrumble · 25/02/2021 06:19

Sorry little dorit, I did hit the biscuit tin this week, 4 buiscits over 2 days so not a binge. Yesterday evening my DH was snacking away on the sofa, buiscits and sweets. I didn't snack then even though I'd cheated earlier in the day so wanted to say f it. I also wanted to start exercising yesterday but felt crappy....shit that reminded me I forgot to do my biweekly covid swab last night.

buzzofthebumblebee · 25/02/2021 08:42

Extra good food choices today in prep for WI tomorrow.

Feeling v anxious today though. Can't think of a particular reason why, different from the usual stuff. Maybe it might boost my metabolism for the day and drop me 2lbs for tomorrow

Resist today all - longer term goals to be aiming for

buzzofthebumblebee · 25/02/2021 08:46

extra well resisting bramble - 4 biscuits over 2 days is certainly not a binge. That is seriously impressive restraint, esp if your DH munching next to you too. Your food sounds good Little - and I think 2 larger meals rather than 3 are fine. Case of going with the flow, whether you have time, are hungry, or depends what food is in!

AdventureIsWaiting · 25/02/2021 09:00

Hi everyone, do you mind my asking, how long was it until you saw results on this diet? I've struck to it religiously for two weeks and not lost anything. When I've calorie-counted before (which I don't want to go back to - it makes me miserable), I have seen a very small movement, which has motivated me to keep going. I have - as the website says - had larger meals than I would normally, but it's all one helping on one plate, and my meals are healthy (plenty of veg etc, usually have 3 veggie and 2 fish meals a week) and it's been balanced out by zero snacking and zero sweets Mon-Fri I'm amazed I've been able to do this as I WFH in the kitchen and been grazing non-stop since March last year.

My meals look like:
B - weigh out 40g of porridge, guesstimate milk (not worried about this as I don't get enough calcium as it is), 1x or 2x fruit portion
L - veg sticks (2x or 3x portion), toast/bread/pasta, fish/cheese/egg, 1x fruit, e.g. banana
D - could be anything, but always make up the veg to 4x total per day & rarely eat meat, e.g. last 3 days have had Thai sweet potato, coconut & spinach curry with rice, before that had jacket potato, beans and cheese.

Exercise-wise I'm walking 10,000 steps per day (worked out I'm managing this about 7 in 10 days, which is less than I'd thought), and doing 10 mins of yoga every day. I have ASD and can't stand the sensation of sweating, it makes me want to rip my skin off, so I'm trying gentle exercise instead. I'd love to go swimming, but I need to wait until the end of lockdown & also need to find a quiet pool. I have two stone to lose to get back to where I was in summer 2019.

Feeling very despondent today.

HenriettaHeffalump · 25/02/2021 09:24

Oh no @AdventureIsWaiting! That is rough as it definitely doesn't look as if you are overeating and you are getting some exercise too.

I lost two lbs in the first week. I just snuck a look on the scales, (although I swore I wouldn't). I've lost another lb and a half, so altogether, I've lost 3.5 lbs now. That's been 3 weeks I think...? But i had a weekday S Day and didn't do well during the second week.

However, I was quite big to begin with and definitely was overeating, so I think, any change for the better was always going to have an effect on me. If you are already not too big and eating fairly sensibly, it may just take a bit more time.

Or, it might be that you need to look at portion sizes, but you've been weighing things as well, so it doesn't seem as if there is anything wrong with your portions.

Sorry, if that isn't very helpful!

Anyway, early weigh in here, (sorry), so:

SW: 200 lbs
CW: 196.5 lbs
BMI: 29.9 (just out of the obese category now 🥳)

OP posts:
AdventureIsWaiting · 25/02/2021 09:42

Thanks @HenriettaHeffalump and congratulations on your weight loss Smile

It could be portions as I don't weigh my dinner (I used to weigh everything for myfitnesspal and it made me miserable), but I've just measured my dinner plates desperate and they're 24.5cm from edge to edge, with a 2.5cm border that I don't usually go into, so I think that's unlikely.

I'm trying to get back to 9 stone from 10.5 stone (I'm 5'3" so in the overweight category). I had been a stable weight (was obese as a child) for 10 years, but I think that's due to walking to work (30 mins each way) every day and being on my feet a lot as well. That's all gone in the last year.

I'll come back tomorrow for the weigh-in Smile

HenriettaHeffalump · 25/02/2021 09:50

I know exactly what you mean re weighing everything.

It doesn't seem fair, as you've been sticking to it adventure! Maybe just keep doing what you're doing and see what happens, and if no change by next week, then maybe look at slightly tweaking your meals. Sorry though. It really doesn't seem fair at all. I wonder if it is because you're more petite and don't have as much to lose as I do too. Maybe it will just take a little bit longer.

LittleDoritt · 25/02/2021 11:36

Only four biscuits is massive self control in my book Bramble!

Massive well done on getting out of the obese range Henrietta Star I can only dream of such a day!

Bramblecrumble · 25/02/2021 12:17

Porrige and peanut butter for breakfast, after a shock of a positive covid home test. Have had another more reliable test to confirm, had an early lunch of a cheese sandwich and a pear. I did a small bit of ringfit but got distracted. Generally feeling better than yesterday.

HenriettaHeffalump · 25/02/2021 12:53

Oh no Bramble! Was it you or a family member tested positive? You, I'm guessing? Glad to hear you're feeling ok, but yes, I'm sure it's anxious making all the same.

My dsis had it and barely had symptoms. She's an overweight doctor, in her mid-30s. Hope you will be the same! God, what a week this thread is having and look, everyone has managed to stay more or less on the wagon, which is amazing.

I've got a weird tummy today. God knows what. DH thinks I have Quorn poisoning... I don't know what that is, but apparently it's a thing. I only had one Quorn burger but anyway. Not up to much as a result. I was meant to do a workout today, but I do feel decidedly peaky, so I'm not doing it. Might do some gentle yoga later instead.

Thank you LittleD! I was only just in the obese category, but it does feel like a little victory. But I need to keep going. Slow and steady.

Bramblecrumble · 25/02/2021 13:30

That's great getting out of the obese category. It's a horrible sounding word. Goes overweight, obese, morbidly obese. 🤢 Just sounds gross. It was me, I work in a hospital, but full ppe and ironically not had any contact with any confirmed cases, but do get walk ins. I have had my first vaccination and felt worse so might stay unsyptomatic. Really feeling a bit crappy yesterday could just as easily be PMs.

HenriettaHeffalump · 25/02/2021 13:48

Oh that's great you've had a jab! It sounds as if it's keeping away the worst of it, even if not total protection, so fingers crossed for you bramble!

B: Porridge, banana and orange
L: don't know
D: don't know

OP posts:
buzzofthebumblebee · 25/02/2021 14:10

What a pain Bramble. Hope you stay relatively symptom free.
Congrats on the weight loss Henri, and dropping into next category. Maybe more off by tomorrow, esp if you aren't feeling great?
Are you OK today Elt after your big shock encounter yesterday morning?

HenriettaHeffalump · 25/02/2021 14:19

Think that might be wishful thinking buzz, but you never know! I still haven't had lunch as do feel a bit ick and can't think what to eat. Shame about no exercise today as well. Will see if Yoga with Adriene does one for stomach upsets! I'm sure she does. She does yoga for pretty much everything.

OP posts:
HenriettaHeffalump · 25/02/2021 14:20

And YY, Elt, how are you after the accident? It was a nasty shock, I bet.

OP posts:
eltsihT · 25/02/2021 17:17

Much better today. Just need to get the car fixed! DH goes away on Saturday for 4 days with work. He used to be away 5/8 weeks so I was used to it but he hasn’t been away since November 2019. I normally eat terribly when he is away but have lots of nice dinners in the freezer so will probably do some freezer diving

I am having an S day as I have an online gig tonight, but am trying to stick to not snacking too much.

Today’s menu:
B: toast and marmite
L: hot dog and and apple
D: chilli con carne

S: sensations chilli nuts and whiskey, which I am really looking forward to.

HenriettaHeffalump · 25/02/2021 20:33

Oh good Elt. Sorry about your car, but glad you're ok! I admire your batch cooking and freezer filling. That is my plan for this weekend, if I get peace to do it! I honestly feel as if there aren't enough hours in the day at the moment. Although, my free time is being spent on my bum, as I'm tired out.

Not the best day for food again and I have to confess...I snacked this afternoon! Nothing terrible, but still not goo. I know what the issue was; I didn't have dinner planned, and was peckish while wandering aimlessly round my kitchen, trying to decide what to cook, (curry...again)!

This is reinforcing my lesson from earlier in the thread, where I realised I need to have good, quality meals planned and ready to cook on weekdays! Lesson learnt...again!

Onward and upward. Planning meals for the weekend and DH is off for some of tomorrow, so I'll try and get to the shops for groceries.

This WOE really doesn't make me want to push the fuck it button when I mess up, so that's one massive upside to not doing well today.

OP posts:
LittleDoritt · 25/02/2021 20:49

Had to abandon the post I was writing earlier - the joys of homeschooling!

I hope your day wasn't too bad in the end, after the early anxiety Buzz.

Sorry about your positive result Bramble. Fingers crossed no symptoms develop. I have my jab tomorrow - made the mistake of reading the side effects thread in Active convos and now scared half to death!

I snacked this afternoon too Hen It hit half three and I was just starving. It seemed so long until dinner! I just had a NutriGrain, but it's my first snack for the week. Could have been worse.

B: Cereal
L: Beans on toast
S: Nutrigrain
D: Prawn and chilli pizza

Total carb fest today which isn't ideal the night before weigh in!

buzzofthebumblebee · 26/02/2021 07:43

2 lbs down
