Anyone else at the start of their weight loss journey with a BMI over 40?

I thought starting this thread might make me more accountable.

I'm 5ft 5, weigh 265lbs, I'm in my early 30's.

I'd love to chat to others in a similar position, almost all my friends and extended family are slim! (My DH is also trying to loose weight, lower BMI than me though.)

Before photos are such a good idea, if I get this weight off I might post a comparison without my face one day!

Can I join please.

5ft5. 238lbs.

Lost 18lbs last October going to the gym. Lockdown hit again and have comfort ate it all back on :(

FlatEarthling · 27/01/2021 09:26

How old is everyone?

I'm 52. I also have high blood pressure which could probably be cured by weight loss.

Pellewsmate · 27/01/2021 10:26

Can I join? Height 5'4", weight last time I checked 272lbs, which puts me at BMI 40.6 (according to NHS).
Part of my problem is that I feel fine, no aches or pains and I'm able to keep up with the children, it's so difficult to find motivation.

Eliards2012 · 27/01/2021 11:52

Morning,

How are you today @FlatEarthling? I’m 36. Do you have a weigh in day?

Hello to @Pellewsmate and @DraculasMa what’s your plan?

Have only had water so far this morning as not hungry yet, plus haven’t had a chance with the kids home schooling, don’t feel like I get 5 minutes in the mornings x

Pellewsmate · 27/01/2021 12:47

@Eliards2012 Planning on going low carb. Have tried WW and meal replacements in the past.

Just realised that I got confused about ozs and lbs so I 'only' weigh 238lbs. The fastest 34lbs I'll ever lose.

SchrodingersImmigrant · 27/01/2021 12:51

World really needs to agree on using just one unit system😂 I spend way too much time convering units between empirical and metric😂

TrinityWaves · 27/01/2021 14:10

I'm 31, FlatEarthling. I've been obese since about age 24.

I’ve been up and down since having my first child, and then each time managed to lose the weight had another child and repeat.

Breakfast for me - weetabix, banana and walnuts

Lunch - bagel thin with cheese triangle, tomatoes and cucumber and a packet of wotsits with a pear

HostessTrolley · 27/01/2021 21:22

Hi all,

Can I join please?

My BMI is 43, and I started doing fast800 today. I’m at the point where I need to do something drastic, I’m fed up of feeling like this, I’m going to be 49 in a couple of weeks but I feel just so old and tired and invisible. I’ve been caring for my anorexic daughter for the last few years so the weigh has just gone up and up, but now that she’s doing better and is at uni, I need to think of my own health.

Day one has been... fine. I’m not really a breakfast person, so I had a milky coffee. Lunchtime I had a bowl of soup (a ready made one) with some salad and a bit of feta - no bread! Dinner we had pork schnitzel things and I had a load of veg- carrots, roasted sprouts, cabbage. Been drinking loads of fluid and am feeling quite good.

My plan is to see how I get on with this plan for two weeks and go from there :)

Hello, I would also like to join in. I'm 36 5ft6 and 264lb. I have already lost 2.5 stone after I had my daughter so have gone from a BMI of 46 to 42.

Sadly I am bouncing around the same few pounds over and over. I do 5:2 because it keeps me from tipping back over but need to work out why I am not losing. I suspect it is a combination of snacking and poegio sizes.

I'm also investing in some me time and have referred myself to the therapy service as I believe my issues with weight have huge beginninga in chdhood trauma. Got the first appointment on 4th March so we'll see if it helps.

I do taekwondo normally as my exercise which I love so am going to keep trying to do that over lockdown.

TrinityWaves · 28/01/2021 00:48

Please all keep joining, the more the merrier and it keeps the thread active!! Hello HostessTrolley!

Hello Moonlight, we have similar stats (I'm 5ft 5.5, weigh 265lbs, age 31).

Hello everyone joining,

Lunch for me was some rice cakes, yoghurt and a fruit bagel

Dinner was a WW bolognese meal with broccoli and cauliflower.

1 hour of just dance today and that’s another good day!

@HostessTrolley good luck with your plan, I haven’t heard of that one before? Hope your daughter continues to do well and you get the most out of this time you’ve got for you!

@moonlight1705 I hope your therapy helps, well done on your loss already! It obviously works for you! Good luck.

HostessTrolley · 28/01/2021 14:29

@Eliards2012 it’s the Michael Mosley thing - lowish carb and lots of veg and protein but very low calorie. So far so good really usually when I try to count calories, being able to have one glass of wine or a couple of biscuits never ends at the one glass... so maybe trying something completely different might at least get me started. I am giving myself the get out of a solero in the evenings if I get desperate so I’ve got a planned escape if I get so hungry that i start to eye up the dog lol

Plan for today
B- coffee with a good amount of skimmed milk
L - three egg omelette with tomatoes, spring onion, mushrooms, spinach and some grated cheese
D - chicken breast in garlic and herb (waitrose) with roasted veg.

Lots of water, mint tea etc

hopingforabrighterfuture2021 · 28/01/2021 18:27

How is everyone doing?

I am really still loving WW, and using lots of my tricks from last time I did it to stay on track.

FlatEarthling · 28/01/2021 20:14

3 days in. I'm ok I think it's because I'm not actually doing too much with my diet, just cutting out snacks and trying to eat a bit better.

I need smaller portions as my next goal. Although I did eat off a smaller plate tonight.

I can only exercise at weekends because of work. I'm too tired in the week

moonlight1705 · 29/01/2021 14:33

Thanks for the welcome, Trinity - I thought we had similar stats etc when I saw your OP so thought I would see how you are all doing it.

Today's big achievement is not having any snacks at all - I have had a bowl of cereal for breakfast, a cuppa and left over lamb tagine with couscous for lunch. Friday is fish and chip night in our house though so will aim to eat less chips that normal. My DH and I normally share a large portion but could cut it down to a regular one.

FlatEarthling · 29/01/2021 21:03

Pizza and chips on Friday here.
I had about one third less chips and really enjoyed my pizza.

I'm going to be extra good tomorrow to balance. I think it will be easier when I'm not at work.

I really need to get my blood pressure down!

SchrodingersImmigrant · 29/01/2021 21:10

Good job everyone!

@FlatEarthling have you tried deinking hibiscus? It's known to help with it and it's delicious

HulahoopsBBQbeef · 29/01/2021 21:11

I hope that it’s ok to post. My starting BMI was 44 two years ago. I’ve been obese my entire life on and off. It’s taken me two years to get my BMI down to 27. I’m still going but it’s getting harder. I just wanted to say that it may seem like a huge uphill battle thinking of how much you need to lose, and I’ve often fallen off the wagon, but it is achievable. Oh and I agree, definitely take lots of before photos. I have none. No photos with my babies because I felt so horrible! I regret missing out on that. But also the photos help when you are having a bad time and the scales aren’t moving. They show you that things have changed!
