Weight loss for those with a 40+ BMI

TrinityWaves · 24/01/2021 15:55

Anyone else at the start of their weight loss journey with a BMI over 40?

I thought starting this thread might make me more accountable.

I'm 5ft 5, weigh 265lbs, I'm in my early 30's.

I'd love to chat to others in a similar position, almost all my friends and extended family are slim! (My DH is also trying to loose weight, lower BMI than me though.)

OP posts:
FlatEarthling · 26/02/2021 09:54

Starting weight 252lbs

05/2/21. 243lbs
12/2/21. 240lb
19/2/21. 240lbs
26/2/21. 238lbs

@MyGazeboisLeaking I also feel in control and happy with what I am eating which is a big, big win as I haven't lasted this long on a diet in years.

But the weight loss is SO SLOW! I'm averaging 1400 calories according to my FitBit app. So I have scope to decrease but was hoping not to need to do that until I was down quite a bit more.
It's been great weather here this week so I have managed a 30 minute power walk after work so I was hoping that might help more. Maybe I will see next week?
I'm still 14lbs higher than I was this time last year.

However, for anyone catching this thread, I will say I feel loads better. More energy and clearer in my mind. So that is worth as much as weight loss.

SchrodingersImmigrant · 26/02/2021 09:58

But the weight loss is SO SLOW!

It's still faster than how we put it on😁 I kept repeating myself "you didn't put it on in 2l3 months, you can't expect it to go in 3 months".
I still lose 4x (sometimes more) faster than I gained so... Yay? 😂

Glad you are all doing well!

FlatEarthling · 26/02/2021 15:28

I've just scanned back at some of the old posts as we have been on the thread for a month.
Its sad to see so many people say they are joining in only to disappear.
Ive done this in the past, never really got off the ground.
I'm really hoping to stay the course this time.

I'm hoping I'm just in the week 3/4 plateau I have read about, which will be followed by a 'whoosh'

I currently have a Muller Chocolate Fix ( 69 calories) in the freezer to see if it turns to something like ice cream.

Pizza night tonight. I'll be weighing mine and having salad. Lots of salad.

MyGazeboisLeaking · 26/02/2021 15:42

@ouchmyfeet - 21lbs is amazing.
I'll be delighted when I've lost a stone and a half.

@FlatEarthling - you've done really well.

When things just click, it's so good to continue. Imagine - we will all be out and about again in a few months and we will all be so glad we stuck to our plans.

MyGazeboisLeaking · 26/02/2021 15:43

@SchrodingersImmigrant - you're so right.

I'm happy with slow if I change my ways and it stays off 🤞

Curlymarbs · 26/02/2021 16:31

Can I join please ladies? Bmi of 39 and working to get to below 30 by end of the year to have Fertility treatment. Despite the deadline I’m wanting to take the slow and steady approach so that what comes off stays off. Hoping having a group of people doing the same will help me in terms of having somewhere to check in Smile

Yeah. I assumed it was a January thing. I also atarted January thing nber of times. I read somewhere it VERY rarely sticks. In the end I started one saturday afternoon with "now, not tomorrow, not monday. Now" and that stuck.

Something has to click inside you (or inside your furniture....😳)

SchrodingersImmigrant · 26/02/2021 18:05

MyGazeboisLeaking · 26/02/2021 19:47

Hi @Curlymarbs and welcome 😍

MyGazeboisLeaking · 26/02/2021 19:48

Oh dear, @FlatEarthling - sorry that the frozen Muller wasn't a hit!

FatCatThinCat · 27/02/2021 08:44

113.2 kg for me. That's a 0.8 kg loss this week.

Well done evryone else who's lost.

Thisseatisnotavailable · 27/02/2021 15:33

3.5lb off for me this week.

Feeling very positive still and going to try and increase my exercise this week.

Did anyone watch Michael Mosley on Ch 4 recently? It was called something like how to keep a healthy weight. It was quite an interesting watch, especially about how most of us aren't active enough to need the 2000 daily calories recommended for women by the NHS. I am going to try and increase my muscle mass and do some more weights.

SchrodingersImmigrant · 27/02/2021 16:37

Good loses everyone!

MyGazeboisLeaking · 27/02/2021 16:43

Well done all - great work @FatCatThinCat - I'd like to lose 800g or over this week too.

@Thisseatisnotavailable - great loss. I didn't watch the documentary but will try and catch up on it.

Great shout - you've inspired me to also to incorporate more weights. I've had good results in the past and also enjoy them so thanks for that, I'm going to add them.

SchrodingersImmigrant · 27/02/2021 16:48

I am over the side effects and the sun last few days is very energising so I am finally feeling like before the illness in Jan and got back to my workout regime. I need to make new hiit routine. I have 2 and these are boring now😁 Need to spice it up. I have one with dumbbells, one without. Need to mix the intensity of the other with the dumbbells. They are good things. But were impossible to buy in a first lockdown!😱

TrinityWaves · 27/02/2021 17:55

The weather is so lovely today, hopefully this will make exercise easier for everyone!

Donteatpurplebroccoli · 27/02/2021 21:42

It was lovely weather today! I was one of the first few to join this thread then dropped off as lots going on but I’m back a month later and 5 pounds heavier Sad which is going some even for me!Angry I’ve finally had a much needed week off work and some head space . Started 16/8 and feeling more in control, meal plan and shopping sorted for next week so feeling hopeful and back in the game! Determined to stay the course this time whatever life throws at me! Well done for the weight loss !

FlatEarthling · 28/02/2021 11:27

@Donteatpurplebroccoli glad you are back. I have been in your position more times than I can count. Diets that don't get off the ground.

I naturally don't want breakfast so I've been doing 16: 8 for years. My problem was the amount of food I could put away in the window.

What meals have you planned for?

I'm still trying to make better choices, smaller portions and just keeping a log of things I eat. I'm staying under 1500 calories ( rough calculations used for home made food) and generally under 1300.

I was hoping for more rapid loss as it's motivating but as a food lover I don't particularly want to cut down much more.

Donteatpurplebroccoli · 28/02/2021 17:55

@FlatEarthling thanks and it’s so frustrating isn’t it!
I do feel lots better for doing 16:8 I am a breakfast person so thought I would struggle but haven’t so far!
I’m aiming for fairly easy but nutritiousmeals, Not a massive change on what we’re actually eating for meals but cutting snacks completely and reducing portion sizes drastically as they have increased lots over the last year and cutting the unhelpful carbs! Have got a portion plate to help! We’ve got quorn chilli, chicken and chorizo slow cooked stew with butter beans, beetroot and onion Dhaal, and a few different stir fries for tea planned then mainly salads for lunch but aiming for lots of variety of veg and some beans or grains in salad each day.

Are you still updating weight loss on a set day on here?

TrinityWaves · 28/02/2021 21:14

We're going for Friday but update as and when you want to! (I forgot to weigh on Friday this week, whoops!)

OP posts:
claracluck1978 · 01/03/2021 19:02

Well I'm still here but forgot to post on Friday.
It was another 1lb loss for me last week, taking me to 9lbs off overall this year. I was hoping things would be a bit quicker but I'll take any loss right now!

Donteatpurplebroccoli · 01/03/2021 19:02

@TrinityWaves thanks I weighed today as work scales more reliable than ones at home! Will do it again on thurs to update on fri as not at work. Hoping for first week fluid loss to help this weeks loss along!! Feels like I’ve spent half the day in the toilet! Grin sorry if tmi!!
Hope everyone has had good day !

Curlymarbs · 01/03/2021 19:35
