Exercise Accountability - anyone want to be exercise buddies?

Over this year I have really lost condition and I'd like to start doing some daily exercise to make up for the fact that I'm at home all the time now. Anyone want to join me for some daily accountability?
My plan is to do at least 20 minutes of YouTube yoga each day and increase the amount I'm walking by doing long walks on my days off.

Done my strength today, but need to get on the trampette as I've not walked the dog. 1700 steps done, so a long way to go!

ClaraTheImpossibleGirl · 06/02/2021 22:30

How did you get on @picklemewalnuts?

I got so fed up with DP faffing around at home that I took DS2 out for a walk, so my step count is 14K, highest it's been for weeks!!

picklemewalnuts · 07/02/2021 07:59

That's impressive, Clara! I did my 5000 on the trampette watching Cathrine the Great. Very efficient, to be honest! I did it in fits and starts- it's quite demanding, more so than walking.

ClaraTheImpossibleGirl · 08/02/2021 08:44

I can imagine it's hard work @picklemewalnuts! Some days I do my steps but because it's walking quite slowly with the DC, I do wonder if it's actually making any difference Hmm still, when we go out today I'll definitely be burning some calories trying not to freeze to death, right?!

(And as an aside, is Catherine the Great worth a watch?)

picklemewalnuts · 08/02/2021 11:50

Hah- according to DH, no, he's given up on it. I'm enjoying it though- possibly as a feminist! Lots of sex, but generally not very explicit, and generally quite comic. Lots of swearing.

It's comic, grotesque, and really entertaining, with some good social commentary thrown in.

The Czar shouts 'huzzah' whenever he's happy about something, and everyone joins in. 'Oh dear, thousands are dying at the front, but the borscht is ready "Huzzah!"'

ClaraTheImpossibleGirl · 08/02/2021 12:59

Sounds worth a watch @picklemewalnuts Grin

I enjoyed Reign for much the same reasons; it was utter twaddle, historical realism was waaaaay down the list of requirements (after 'everyone looking pretty' and 'nice dresses', definitely), but it was immensely entertaining and took zero brainpower to watch. The last season was a bit grim (because after all, we knew what was coming!) but before that, ace.

Did PE with Joe this morning but am still on less than 5K steps. The snow is drifting down outside - it's all very pretty, but doesn't help me persuade the DC out for a long walk...

picklemewalnuts · 08/02/2021 19:03

Did you get out, Clara? I did my bounce, to another episode of Catherine the Great.

SingToTheSky · 08/02/2021 19:35

I got out for a walk in the snow today. I wasn’t planning to but felt really restless (adjusting to new meds) and just wrapped up warm and went to catch some Pokemon in the park. It felt less cold than when I was waiting for a bus the other day (when it wasn’t snowing) and it felt nice feeling the snow crunch underfoot and seeing really beautiful snowflakes land on my coat 😍 I didn’t walk quickly though as it was icy in parts so it was more for fresh air than exercise really. Not done any other exercise for a couple of days.

picklemewalnuts · 08/02/2021 20:20

It's weight bearing, Sing, and it's fresh air. Good for you!

SingToTheSky · 08/02/2021 23:21

True :) thanks. Glad I went. Also did my weights routine which I’ve neglected. It seems there’s been more snow just now so maybe tomorrow I’ll have another nice walk :)

ClaraTheImpossibleGirl · 09/02/2021 15:50

We only managed a short walk yesterday @picklemewalnuts Blush it was so cold I could only tempt the DC out for 15 minutes!

We did a bit longer today, half an hour ish, plus they've been in the garden. We've had snow flurries all day but very little sticking despite it being brass monkeys here...

I did a weights routine this morning @SingToTheSky and was feeling rather smug that I'd improved enough to do the whole thing without stopping. I'm now shuffling around in pain at every step. Serves me right!

SingToTheSky · 09/02/2021 18:02

Well done clara I was feeling a bit glum yesterday that I found it harder to do the weights than I did last year. But we have to just keep plodding on and they’ll become easier and with less soreness after!

I did some ringfit today which I really enjoyed, and just had another snowy walk (again slow because of ice... and Pokémon).

picklemewalnuts · 09/02/2021 18:08

@Igglepigglesgrubbyblanket are you still around? How are you getting on?

I managed my 5k today. I'm enjoying the strength exercises at the weekend, I may try doing them in the week as well. I'm also enjoying being able to bend and pick something off the floor, and to get up once I've sat on the floor!
You don't realise how much you take your strength and agility for granted, until it goes!

clpsmum · 09/02/2021 18:09

Can I join or am I too late?

SingToTheSky · 09/02/2021 19:00

Never too late to get fit clps :) welcome!

picklemewalnuts · 09/02/2021 21:19

Hello clps! What kind of exercise are you trying to do? I'm just trying to get generally more active. I do a weekdaily tai chi class, wii fit at the weekend, and do 5k steps a day. And I need to keep doing it!

Igglepigglesgrubbyblanket · 10/02/2021 11:53

Hi all, sorry I've neglected the thread. I've been feeling a bit low & neglecting the exercise somewhat. Just beginning to come out of my January fug and feel a bit better. I did about an hour and a half just walking around the park chatting on the phone to a friend this morning & I think will get on to yoga again soon (more for a MH type thing than for my original plan of getting fit & flexible).
Hi @picklemewalnuts glad to hear the strength training is going well! It's good to feel strong in your body 🙂
Hi @clpsmum 👋
Well done everyone for keeping on going! I do feel inspired to do more every time I return to this thread ☺️

Well done for getting out walking, Iggle! It helps to be making a call, or have someone to walk with.

I meant to do a different walk today, go somewhere new etc, as DH has a day off. We stayed close to home because of the snow, and ended up just doing our usual trot because the ground was so slippery! I didn't want either of us to fall, somewhere off the beaten track!

ClaraTheImpossibleGirl · 10/02/2021 22:35

Glad you are feeling a bit better @Igglepigglesgrubbyblanket! It does help to get outside in the fresh air every day; some days I really don't feel like going out, especially when I have to wrangle the reluctant DC into all their winter layers, but I regret it if we don't.

@picklemewalnuts I keep trying to think of new routes, but really I only have two which are child-friendly, the rest are too hilly and/ or next to busy roads Sad it does make it tricky to work up enthusiasm for plodding the same paths day after day...

ClaraTheImpossibleGirl · 10/02/2021 22:37

@SingToTheSky I get a bit depressed in general when I remember how fit and healthy I was pre-DC! I have at least three stone to lose to get back there Shock did PE with Joe again today and am more than a bit achey now!!

Igglepigglesgrubbyblanket · 11/02/2021 08:41

Just planned a walk with a friend on Saturday. I will abandon the kids with my husband and walk a bit further than normal.
Love your username by the way @ClaraTheImpossibleGirl that was my favourite era of Dr who (apart from the current one -jodie Whittaker is my dds inspiration so I have to be loyal)

OP posts:
picklemewalnuts · 11/02/2021 13:08

I walked a bit further than usual today. It's a route we haven't done for years, because it's there and back rather than a loop. Took 48 mins, and 5k steps. I got a very cold nose, though!

Walking with a friend will be something to look forward to!

picklemewalnuts · 12/02/2021 14:33

I just found some rebounding videos to do on my trampette! a the one I did wasn't great, but I'll try a few more over the next few indoor exercise days!
Does anyone else have a trampette? I really enjoyed it.
5k steps while watching one tv episode.

ClaraTheImpossibleGirl · 12/02/2021 15:05

Those videos sound really useful @picklemewalnuts! We don't have a trampette; the DC have a trampoline in the garden but obviously it's a bit chilly for that at the moment. I took them out for some fresh air earlier but even I was glad to get back indoors, it was freeeeeezing!

A walk with a friend would be lovely @Igglepigglesgrubbyblanket - DP is working this weekend so I am trapped with grumpy DC again Sad I can't wait to go for a longer walk at a decent pace. They just meander along poking at mud and then we all get cold and grumpy...

(Glad you like the username by the way! It reminds me of an old flame, but in a good way Grin and I did love the of Clara with the previous doctors, so it seemed like a good choice!)

Igglepigglesgrubbyblanket · 12/02/2021 17:01

Well done pickle!
I've done two walks today one with each kid (so I don't have to listen to them squabbling) so not much but better than nothing. It is absolutely freezing here or id go out again
