Vanity pounds to lose - any takers?

PrincessConsuelaBH · 12/10/2020 21:09

So I have approx. 15lbs to lose to get back to my comfortable weight and for my clothes to fit! Thanks to lockdown and a toddler that still doesn't sleep meaning I rely on sugar to get me through the day...

I'm aiming to break it up into 3 5lb mini goals so I don't feel like it's unmanageable before I ever start Grin

Nothing faddy, just planning to make better choices with my food, plan more, and move more too. I have some short-ish term goals that I'm hoping will be enough motivation for me to shift the weight 👶🏻

Anyone want to join? I'd be happy to keep a list going (if there's not too many of us!) to record our weights and losses if anyone would want that too.

I feel like I have done okay today. I had:
breakfast = 2 slices white seeded bread toasted with flora light
lunch = portion pasta with chicken and tomato sauce
dinner = 2 slices wholemeal seeded bread toasted with flora light
supper = [I plan to have] few squares dark chocolate and small bowl branflakes
few cups of coffee throughout the day

Anyone else going through a phase where carby food is the only thing you feel you can keep down?

@Jemenfouscompletement
At your height 57kgs is under the very lowest healthy bmi.
I am going to step away from this thread now as I am nursing my dsd through the early stages of her anorexia recovery and hearing someone say they usually run 80miles a week and they need to lose more weight to get to "healthy" weight when that weight is nearly on the dangerous zone is very distressing.

PurpleDaisies · 23/11/2020 21:01

How dis you arrive at that number as your ideal weight @Jemenfouscompletement? That’s a very low target.

@Theredjellybean so sorry to hear about your DSD. It’s such a hard illness to deal with. A friend was badly affected and has made it through now. It’s been a struggle. Flowers

My endo pain has gone for this month to be replaced with a migraine. DH has made me a fantastic freezer dinner of alphabites, quorn fish fingers and baked beans. Not exactly health food but it hit the spot.

Jemenfouscompletement · 23/11/2020 21:11

@Theredjellybean
So sorry about your dad
I'll step away from the thread as it was a stupid post to make, apologies. We are all different and for my a BMI of 19 isn't underweight.
Sorry!

RainingBatsAndFrogs · 23/11/2020 22:40

@Theredjellybean , please stay. You are doing a fantastic job supporting your Dsd and you are a great role model for her, and for the spirit of this thread, which is health, feeling good about ourselves and not beating ourselves up or giving up.

BrimfulOfBaba · 24/11/2020 08:10

Oh @Theredjellybean, you are being such a wonderful support for your DSD, I really hope you stay.

@Jemenfouscompletement, I didnt catch your post but if you need some support from someone on this journey I'm happy to be privately messaged.

Hope everyone is doing well and ready for a brand new, winning day!

BrimfulOfBaba · 24/11/2020 12:49

Polished off my lunch (Joe Wick's spiced carrot and grain salad with yoghurty dressing) before 11.30am as I was ravenous despite a fairly normal brekkie of Skyr and granola. Strange as I wasn't particularly active yesterday!

Working out tonight and have a veggie and mozzarella bake (another Joe Wicks!) with homemade garlic bread tonight. Having eaten my lunch a bit early, am fully expecting to want to snack on something before then. Luckily have some of Co-ops magnificent salt and vinegar and Tony's Chocolonely stashed away :)

PurpleDaisies · 24/11/2020 16:22

That sounds like a delicious day of eating @BrimfulOfBaba. I’ve never really followed joe wickes much but I’ve heard really good things about his food and workouts. I’ve got a glut of carrots from three veg boxes (!!) so will look at that recipe

I’m back in the game today. I’ve been for an hour and a half walk this morning in a different place to normal which really lifted my spirits. I even managed to buy dh a cinnamon bun and not eat it myself (I had a very posh coffee-supporting the local economy of course!). I’ve done a barre workout on Les mills plus a deep stretch. Accidentally ate a whole pack of bean it protein pieces with soy sauce as a post workout snack rather than half but I’m thinking of that as muscle food. Onwards and downwards...

RebeccaNoodles · 24/11/2020 18:06

Hope everyone has had a good Monday! Wow great work on the cinnamon bun @PurpleDaisies - that takes great strength, I love them. @BrimfulOfBaba like the sound of those Joe Wicks recipes. Are you doing his workout tonight?
I have a cold (always something) so was going to slack off Pilates tonight but you've inspired me to give it a go. It's only 20 minutes and I can do it in my pyjamas so there's no excuse!
@Theredjellybean sorry to hear about your dsd, must be very upsetting. Daffodil
@Jemenfouscompletement I missed your post also but hope you're doing ok

RebeccaNoodles · 24/11/2020 18:09

Monday, even ConfusedBlush

RebeccaNoodles · 24/11/2020 18:09

I mean Tuesday! Argh Smile

Oxyiz · 24/11/2020 18:41

A long walk somewhere new sounds lovely @PurpleDaisies

I've eaten better today and yesterday than I did on Sunday and gone back to Sunday's weight levels, phew. Off for another walk now to hit 10,000 steps!

dudsville · 24/11/2020 21:04

Hi teandtoast and dogshow!

theredjellybean, it must be hard with your dsd and your own needs being so different. I respect you're walking a fine line. I also missed your post jemenfous, i hope you're ok.

I've maintained, again. I'm really struggling to maintain good eating habits. I'll do great one day and the next I'm eating a bunch of stuff I don't even really like. I notice i did better when i posted more frequently, so apologies in advance folks I'm about to bore the crap out of this thread in the hope of getting some results!

Jemenfouscompletement · 24/11/2020 21:14

Hi me again, I don't really want to leave this thread it's so friendly! Again I'm really sorry for offending @Theredjellybean but I joined this thread because it was very non judge mental on people who only had a little weight to lose. My goal of a BMI of 19 is still within the healthy range, and because I'm a cub runner who races marathons and ultras (and often wins in my age category) it's normal that my goal weight is low rather than high range BMI. Plus I'm small boned which makes a difference! I've never had an eating disorder, except for eating too much. I love food!
That's all, I didn't mean to offend anybody and appreciate that caring for someone with an eating disorder is very difficult.

bellinique · 24/11/2020 21:27

@Jemenfouscompletement glad you came back! I saw your post and didn't think there was anything wrong with it. This is a thread for losing vanity pounds after all, none of us really needs to lose weight and we acknowledge that we're doing it for superficial reasons. Hope your knee is getting better!

bellinique · 24/11/2020 21:29

Having said that, of course caring for someone with ED must be extremely tough and I understand why a thread like this could be triggering Thanks

momo3w · 24/11/2020 22:34

I can totally see that this thread would be triggering and I think it would be incredibly difficult to manage your own weight/self-image while supporting someone close to you with an ED. Whether you come back or not @Theredjellybean I wish you all the best with the journey and what must be a tough time for your family.

My two youngest are full of colds so we are team no sleep! The baby has it the worst and is very clingy which has actually meant I haven’t eaten much the past two days cos I’ve generally only got one hand free! Haven’t moved as much either but happily binged the Crown season 4 with a dozing baby on me! Going to head out now for a big walk and some fresh air and aim to get a workout in from my programme if I can get him into his bed this arvo!

Well done for those of you who have eaten well, those of you prioritising mental health, those of you dealing with injuries and periods and those of you still determined to keep going despite gains or stalled progress! 👏🏼

PurpleDaisies · 24/11/2020 22:45

I’m going to step away from the thread because I’m uncomfortable with the way that it’s going now.
Good luck everyone. Flowers

Oxyiz · 25/11/2020 09:44

I think I need to do more arm exercises and build up the muscles more. This might sound silly, but has anyone found any "fun" sort of way to build muscles rather than trying to do weightlifting?

For example, I've found that my rebounder has helped me to exercise every day because I absolutely love it. I'm trying to think what the equivalent could be for arms?

Oxyiz · 25/11/2020 10:13

Argh I've just seen that I cut a paragraph from my previous post. Can't remember exactly what I wrote but I am really sympathetic to all who struggle with eating disorders.

From googling, I thought 18.5 BMI was the start of the danger zone, but I can see how other people see 19 and think "it won't stop there".

I'd be sad to see this thread just end but if you do all vanish, thank you again for the warm welcome. I've liked the thread for the short time I've been on it Smile

Jemenfouscompletement · 25/11/2020 10:24

@Oxyiz I always found swimming (crawl) was a great way to build arm muscles, also doing plank exercises helps, but doing plank exercises aren't much fun so that probably isn't much help.

BrimfulOfBaba · 25/11/2020 10:28

Really sorry to hear that @PurpleDaisies, I've really enjoyed talking to you. Let me know if you want me to send you those Joe Wicks recipes!

@RebeccaNoodles I've been using his veggie cookbook and doing his HIT on youtube every now and then but most of my workouts at the moment are kayla itsine's BBG programme and a nike training club workout.

This week has been really busy with a house emergency, work, wedding planning and a job application. I've not worked out yet and have been comfort snacking. Going to aim to maintain this week but won't be stressing about a small gain either. It's an exceptional week!

Oxyiz · 25/11/2020 13:14

Ah yes, I miss swimming so much! Pre-Covid I swam at least three times a week, but its one of those things that is hard to recreate in a flat sadly. Grin

I probably just need to grit my teeth and do some solid proper exercise. I've tried things like planks and squats etc before and never keep up with it, maybe if I properly make an effort it'll stick.

I've been snacking on frozen grapes today, I'd forgotten how much I love them.

momo3w · 25/11/2020 17:42

Take care @PurpleDaisies and all the best, I’ve loved your input!

It’s taken me till now to realise that you’re not talking about John Wick (Keanu Reeves) @BrimfulOfBaba 🤣 I originally thought that a workout programme/food plan was quite a character spin off. Now that I’ve checked I have heard of the body coach and it makes more sense! Definitely good to keep it all in perspective with what sounds like a really full on week for you but some exciting things too like wedding planning! Good luck with the job interview!

I think I’m going to buy myself a really good vegetarian/plant based cookbook for Christmas and get some more inspiration for meals. I’m going to make that delicious looking roast miso eggplant dish for dinner tonight.

@Oxyiz Lots of ball/racket sports are great for arms but probably not very doable at the moment for you, sport is definitely great for that run/social factor. You might also find like you said that if you find the right workout programme and stick with it for a while it won’t feel like such a chore. There’s definitely enjoyment from improving in exercises you weren’t able to do before and a great non scale victory!
